Inevitable: Palin hit with new ethics complaint for speaking at pro-life fundraiser

posted at 5:50 pm on April 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

Another day, another bogus charge meant to taint her with an accusation and bleed her dry in legal fees. That defense fund can’t start soon enough.

Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.” Sondra believes that the tipping point for her was Sarah Palin’s most recent abdication of her role as Governor and apparent conflict-of-interest when she spoke at two outside events in Indiana rather than work with the Alaska Legislature during the most critical time, the end of the session.

Follow the first link to Conservatives 4 Palin, which has interesting background on Tompkins. As irritating as this penny-ante harassment is, I don’t think it hurts her. The defense fund will pay off the debt with ease. What hurts her is the freak-show material, especially given the perception that she already has a gravitas deficit. And the hits just keep on coming.

How can Sondra be taking care of her special needs child while filing lawsuits…I think CPS should be called on her, she needs to spend more time taking care of her child…

Ummm… you do realize that sarah has a special needs child too, don’t you?

Who’s the parody exactly? right2bright was making a parody of what the left said about Palin … or did you somehow miss the 4900 hrs of news cycles that repeated that line.

All this grumbling is understandable, but she’s got to get on offense. Or, maybe I’m so used to how GWB didn’t fight back (for 8 friggin’ years!) that I’m overreacting.

I know it’s an uphill battle for conservatives, but “the best defense…”.

It’s why Rush is so popular; he keeps it positive and is always on the attack (mostly with humor, sarcasm and “showing absurdity by being absurd”).

I’m beginning to think we should change “what would Reagan do?” to “what would Patton do?”.

cranbone on April 22, 2009 at 7:19 PM

You the most hurtful thing about this? It’s not these ankle-biting freaks who are hounding Sarah, it’s the attitude of the GOP. If you are an establishment favorite like Jindal the GOP will come to your rescue (Jindal has been flying out of his state on a regular basis). But if you are a corruption-busting reformer like Sarah, the GOP will toss you to the dogs. It’s not just the Alaska GOP which is a caricature but the national GOP too. The GOP will not support and go to bat for one of its future leaders. What does it say about them?

promachus on April 22, 2009 at 7:20 PM

The worse thing that happened to Palin was accepting the VP spot.

She ended the collusion and shady back room deals between the politicians and oil. She took the government out of the cronies hands and gave it back to the people of Alaska.

Frivolous lawsuits by agenda driven, well paid flunkies wasn’t in her sights … yet.

darwin on April 22, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Are you saying that Sarah was hoisted by her own petard?

If you are then please also cite Alinsky’s Rule #4 from Rules for Radicals:

“Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”

technopeasant on April 22, 2009 at 7:31 PM

Juan McCain and his thin, beautiful, and intelligent daughter Meghan should be rushing to Sarah’s defense any minute now.

Maybe there is something horrible she did to them that we don’t know about.

Barring that, I will never, NEVER forgive them for their treatment of her.

She brought him more votes than he would have had without her. And this is how he and his daughter repay her.

I hear a conservative group is planning on unleashing the same type lawsuits at dem candidates across the country prior to the 2010 election. What what I understand they have a minimum of 500 suits going forward … guaranteed to dry up election coffers and keep the dems in defense mode.

Some are really doozy’s.

Well, at least the dems lawyers will be happy! Good for the economy!

darwin on April 22, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Why are they so afraid of Gov. Palin? They have been attacking her since she gained a national presence.

Captain America on April 22, 2009 at 7:13 PM

Attacking her is putting in mildly. They fell on her like rabid beasts, treating her worse than anyone would treat a dog, tearing her from limb to limb and relishing every drop of blood they could draw.

I will never forgive them for that, and will never forget it. The treatment of SP and JTP changed my opinion of liberals (including people who were once close friends) for the rest of my life.

Winston Churchill performed two of the great acts in modern history.

First he refused to surrender to the Nazis in the Battle of Britain.

Then he insisted that the Nazis being literally destroyed and the war only stopped when the Germany unconditionally surrendered.

This is the approach we must take when dealing with Obama. We must resolve never to surrender to what Mark Levin calls a ‘soft tyranny’, the abolition of capitalism and the undermining of the Constitution.

And we must resolve to take Obama and his cohorts out. Take no prisoners-Obama, Axelrod, the Obamatons, moveon.org, the MSM, the whole gang must be destroyed-no mercy on the enemies of America!

KBird on April 22, 2009 at 8:32 PM

Oh my God, this is ridiculous. Isn’t there some way to counter sue these frivolous lawsuits? The motif behind these is so transparent.

One thing is for sure, tort reform will be a big issue for Palin in 2012.

Daemonocracy on April 22, 2009 at 8:38 PM

BrideOfRove on April 22, 2009 at 8:40 PM

Seriously there needs to be some sort of law put in place to put the financial burden of these types of frivolous claims squarely on the shoulders of those making the complaints. In other words if you make an ethics complaint about about a Government official and it turns out after an investigation to be completely frivolous then you should shoulder burden of the cost of that investigation and all the associated legal fees. Call It a stupidity clause because it will stop idiots from making nuisances of themselves.

Dreadnought223 on April 22, 2009 at 8:41 PM

Obama’s tentacles spread wide indeed. Could it reach a point that nobody prominent wants to admit sympathizing with Sarah Palin, let alone knowing her under fear of retribution?

technopeasant on April 22, 2009 at 6:07 PM

That’s why we the people will support her in any way we can… This whole situation is ridiculous and for some reason that I don’t know of she has to pay to defend herself from the complaints. That’s the whole point because she has to respond and is on the hook financially. This is the lowest of the low and the dirtiest of the dirty politics and it smells completely of Chicago thugism… Obama, Emmanuel and Axerod…

I’m very disappointed in SarahPac right now. We are practically begging for a defense fund to donate to in order to take some of this stress off Sarah and her family and all I hear about it is “crickets*

I honestly do not get all of this stuff about Palin not having enough experience with foreign travel. I have been all over Europe and visited most of the capitals of our allies and it does not do a damn thing for my competence as a leader. Who cares what stamps Sarah has on her passport? Her executive experience in running Alaska should be all that matters.

Tompkins is the all-purpose critic. Amazing how many reporters “find” her:

Despite Palin’s support for children with disabilities, Sondra Thompkins, who’s son has autism, participated in a rally against the governor Saturday.

“We feel very strongly that Sarah Palin is not the right choice,” Thompkins said.

obladioblada on April 22, 2009 at 9:48 PM

As was written elsewhere today: “We can’t spare this woman, she fights.”

her son doesn’t have autism…. they both have a sensory problem. That isn’t autism!

http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=7096309

Hmm KTUU screws up again!

upinak on April 22, 2009 at 10:04 PM

PS. Considering the frequency with which she is picked for man on the street interviews, Tompkins is kind of the Islamic Rage Boy of Alaska.

obladioblada on April 22, 2009 at 10:07 PM

Upinak:

That’s the quote from the TV station. Don’t know how familiar you are with the autism spectrum. Autism is a sensory processing disorder.

My son has a developmental disability and I have years of interaction with special needs advocates personally, professionally and in public policy arenas. When I viewed Tompkins’ complaint and the multiple times that she appears in news stories I had a very strong suspicion that her kids’ disability was autism. Her behavior conforms to the same pattern that I’ve observed with many other parents.

Are you really comparing a meeting with world leaders at the international economic summit and a visit with American soldiers in Iraq to a dinner speech before a couple hundred single-issue religious zealots?

Bravo, my friend! I keep coming back for brilliant political commentary and insight such as this.

benny shakar on April 22, 2009 at 11:00 PM

Upinak:

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. I’m not defending Tompkins.

I did some quick research and see that you are correct and Sensory Processing Disorder is considered to be distinct from autism although the two share many characteristics and are sometimes confused. I know nothing about the family but it would not be unusual for a diagnose to be changed, depending on the specialists consulted and the age of the kids.

I’m also not sure what you mean about the TV report. I did a cut and paste of text from the link I provided, “autism” is their word, not mine.

Has Obama no self respect?

If anything, the MSM and liberals hate Palin because she was “too mean” to Obama and attacked him during the 2008 campaign. Palin has more gravitas than most of the male politicians combined.

sarahpalinfan99 on April 23, 2009 at 3:57 AM

This is as absurd as instead of saying “Merry Christmas”, “Happy Holidays”. Last year when we cut the tree, the staffer said, “Ssshh, we’re not supposed to say that” when the cashier, very friendly and young, wished us Merry Christmas. She said that she says MC first, if ppl say HH she then says HH.

Did that twat burned herself with McD’s coffee and filed a suit? What has the world come to? Why not go after O for all the airline miles he has on AF1, his fav toy?

This shows the bias, the extreme and senseless attitude toward the Palins, Sarah speaks about what she believes in, her experience-lifechanging-and out of the blue, an attention-seeker seeks MSM to embrace her.

Pathetic.

ProudPalinFan on April 23, 2009 at 7:44 AM

Why is this happening to Sarah Palin?

1) She refused to abort Trig.

2) She is a woman in power who doesn’t have the requisite Liberal Cankles.

3) She is desireable and attractive…two big nonos in the world of neonazi liberal feminists…who think they need to rock out with their **** out.

4) She humiliated the moron in chief with her convention speech and with an MSM so deeply invested in the Emperor’s new clothes, that was equivalant to denying the messiah.

5) Liberals only want equal rights for those who agree with them.

6) she was not a muslim sympathizer masquerading as a black child of the 60s born 3 years before Selma Alabama which got him born so he could have a claim on the black experience.

7) She wont god damn america, or piss on the bitter gun clinging bible thumpers while munching arugula and snorting cock.

8) In washington where bullshitting everybody and everything with fancy speeches and double talk is the status quo, her clear down to earth speech and call a spade a spade approach to discourse is deadly to the status quo.

9) she wasn’t raised by marxists and communists who rejected their country and didn’t have a home grown terrorist respected professor ghost write her first autobiography before she ever did anything worth writing about.

10) Lets face it, Sarah whipes bullshit off the bottom of her shoe. Barack feeds it to the masses. When that sinks in there is going to be a whole lotta pissed off “domestic terrorists” for Janet “Manly Girl” Napolotino to worry about.
