House GOP: Napolitano must go

posted at 8:54 pm on April 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

She doesn’t know immigration law or how the 9/11 hijackers got here, and she can’t manage a report on a topic as sensitive as domestic terrorism without insulting vets, but hey — at least she doesn’t owe back taxes. Who could have guessed that the title of Most Hapless Obama Appointee would pass so soon from Geithner?

Nothing says “smart power” like having foreign media wonder how your chief of security got her job.

House Republicans are calling on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to step down or be fired in the wake of a controversial department memo that has sparked indignant battle cries from conservatives and some veterans.

“Singling out political opponents for working against the ruling party is precisely the tactic of every tyrannical government from Red China to Venezuela,” said Texas Rep. John Carter, a member of the party’s elected leadership who has organized an hour of floor speeches Wednesday night to call for Napolitano’s ouster. “The first step in the process is creating unfounded public suspicion of political opponents, followed by arresting and jailing any who continue speaking against the regime.”

Leave it to the GOP to blow an easy lay-up like sticking up for vets by invoking hyperbolic comparisons to Red China and jailing of dissidents. Funny thing: If they did somehow succeed in getting Napolitano canned, her likely next move would be … running for Senate in Arizona, where she’d be well positioned to turn the seat blue thanks to the internecine McCain/Simcox primary bloodletting to come. Napolitano must stay!

The Senate confirmed Janet Napolitano by unanimous consent, meaning there was no vote. They placed the same importance on this and other confirmations as naming a building. Shameful.

Psst…hey, Allah…only, get this: the memo didn’t just slam vets. When I called my congresspeople their staff said they had hundreds of callers talking about the same things…and not many were calling for Vets.

I love them, sure, but the memo was what it was.

By then, if Arizona people are too stupid to figure this out, we truly are getting the government we deserve. There are a lot of hopeful signs, though. The shareholder fit at GE sounds like another tea party. The problem with liberals (other than mental disorder): nothing is real unless it affects their money. Up next: deeper recession and inflation. Hmmm…

Will some enterprising outsider put anti-McCain ads on the air? Come tour Phoenix and experience the GENUINE thrill of the kidnapping capital of America!

House Republicans are squawking? Print ‘em a few billion more and they’ll quiet down again.

I have to agree with many of the posts that she has to GO! I have been to the mountain! I have seen…..
Ok, I have been to Iraq and I have seen a lot of sand! I am fixin to go back. I was there the first time and am going back a second time because it is, in my humble opinion, vital to the security of our nation to assist the region with some type of stability!
Our nations security is placed only behind my God and my family! NOBODY has the power to threaten my God! I will KILL anybody who is an imminent threat to my family! What the hell do I do about someone who is an imminent threat to my country? OBVIOUSLY I do not commit, nor do I condone, acts of violence toward American citizens. I have only the political avenues to explore. Unfortunately I am but a lowly soldier in this war. I have no choice but to rely upon elected officials. (I don’t see this going well!) The only option I have is to make DAMN SURE that I get involved in the process to ensure that the right people are elected in 2010/2012/2014/2016 etc. etc. etc.
It is MY RESPONSIBILITY to make the system work. I have to do that not just by voting, but by getting involved!

Part of the Republican problem is we trusted carreer Politicians like McCain to act like Republicans since that is how they got elected, instead they acted like they wanted and ran off on money grabbin and petty personal vendettas.

Consider every one of these pond scum knew the interrogation tactics used and that they worked and to what extent they worked.

McCain blamed Bush and damaged the U.S. military over Gitmo and Waterboarding to get back at Bush for kickin his stupid ass in N.C.

We must boot the incumbants out and replace the carreer pols with citizens such as yourself. The carreer polls are damaged beyond redemption for the most part, they are useless panderers and could care a less about the American people they care about only that which maintains or increases their power.

gave them the power in the first place!
You are right, they need to go. ALL OF THEM! Democrats, republicans and independents. ALL OF THEM!
We need to start with 100 fresh senators and 435 fresh representatives! Clean slate.
The biggest thing is that unless we as conservatives change our ways and get involved, really get involved, it will be just like it is now. We have an ugly little habit of sitting back and talking the good talk but not fighting the good fight. We have to actually get involved at the core level. We need to help choose the candidates, help finance the campaigns, and help them through the election. Then, and most importantly, we need to hold them accountable. We have to make them realize that they work for us, their constituents, and that they should keep that in mind everytime they vote on a bill. If they forget, we need to remind them, one way or another!

fumpbump on April 22, 2009 at 10:43 PM

Take a look at CheaperThanDirt — absolutely zero .45 ammunition, looks like they have 3 types of .40 in stock: Wolf, American Eagle, and DRT lead-free.

Local Sportsman’s Warehouse is bare of just about everything, even .22. OTOH, they have a few more guns than they had several weeks ago — probably about a dozen handguns in stock as of a couple days ago. Unfortunately, no Kimbers or good Kahrs. I’m looking for a good concealable .45; I’m not built to conceal a Pro Carry model, I think I might be able to do a little better with an Ultra Carry or one of the Kahr PM45′s.

So he has other sources that still have ammo in stock?

AZfederalist on April 22, 2009 at 11:47 PM

No, he gets is direct from the government. We had a huge argument in the gun store because I told him that .45 was scarce, everything is scarce, so he settled on a .40. We were replacing our .357 and .38 that was stolen over Christmas holidays.

Ah, thanks, that clears that up.

Ms. Napolitano’s brief interview with the CBC this week was confirmation we’re dealing with an irrational senior U.S. official who can’t differentiate between a secure border linking the world’s largest trading partners and one that’s a giant sucking sound for jobs going south and what’s been described as an ‘invasion’ of desperate Mexicans illegally sneaking north.

She actually invoked the bogeyman of 9/11 terrorists sneaking into the United States from Canada to bolster the case for a crackdown, even though the most elementary research would have told her there’s no evidence to support that bogus claim.

When challenged on her concerns, she insisted still-secret data, undoubtedly buried with the aliens at Roswell, justifies her concern. She surely must know that only 12 of the 48 al-Qaeda operatives caught between 1993 and 2001 were illegal immigrants and none of those came from Canada.

Wow. News from Canada is so refreshing. Spot on!!

Lets be honest, the woman is an idiot. While the President should get his choice of cabinet, that does not give him the right to select folk who embarrass us overseas and who target folk for political opposition. I am reminded of Janet Reno…

Napi’s comments have gone from being a gaff to becoming a trend. If we just get out of the way and don’t demand her resignation, we’ll have another Joe Biden. Keep her:)

THE CHOSEN ONE on April 23, 2009 at 12:11 AM

AZ was overjoyed to get rid of her and we ain’t taking her back!

Old Dog on April 23, 2009 at 12:11 AM

Oh man… we really need to work on our “taking it to the street” skills.

JohnGalt23 on April 22, 2009 at 11:28 PM

Haha. I’m trying to imagine the Right’s version of ACORN… Better yet, the reaction from Madcow.

Hanging in their. Haven’t been taken away by the DHS yet. At least I can sleep knowing they won’t water board me…

No. DHS will not water board you. However, I can imagine Janet Napolitano ass the Red (!) Queen, screaming at you, “Off with his head!” Not that I want to give you any nightmares or anything. But do you have a neckbrace handy?

Also, I responded to your earlier post here.

Loxodonta on April 23, 2009 at 12:33 AM

My worse typo yet!!!

ass = as

Freudian slip ??? That would be torture! I would definitely need more than a neck brace there…

Yes, it’s hard to imagine there could be worse, but I’m sure there are. At least she isn’t burning Israeli flags or American flags for that matter… The O-team has some pretty scary people on board. To think that the left was terrified of Dick Cheney (and his belief in a strong Executive Branch) seems laughable now – especially when they seem to be embracing many of his views.

Anyone who thinks Napolitano would beat either Republican in 2010 does not appreciate the political motions currently under way in this country. If there was ever a time for replacing RINOs in the primaries, that time is now.

I hear you. The whole Spector thing is also a shame.

I’d love to see someone give Mac a run for his money. And if he keeps dissing Palin, I’d love to see her endorse his opponent!
