House GOP: Napolitano must go

posted at 8:54 pm on April 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

She doesn’t know immigration law or how the 9/11 hijackers got here, and she can’t manage a report on a topic as sensitive as domestic terrorism without insulting vets, but hey — at least she doesn’t owe back taxes. Who could have guessed that the title of Most Hapless Obama Appointee would pass so soon from Geithner?

Nothing says “smart power” like having foreign media wonder how your chief of security got her job.

House Republicans are calling on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to step down or be fired in the wake of a controversial department memo that has sparked indignant battle cries from conservatives and some veterans.

“Singling out political opponents for working against the ruling party is precisely the tactic of every tyrannical government from Red China to Venezuela,” said Texas Rep. John Carter, a member of the party’s elected leadership who has organized an hour of floor speeches Wednesday night to call for Napolitano’s ouster. “The first step in the process is creating unfounded public suspicion of political opponents, followed by arresting and jailing any who continue speaking against the regime.”

Leave it to the GOP to blow an easy lay-up like sticking up for vets by invoking hyperbolic comparisons to Red China and jailing of dissidents. Funny thing: If they did somehow succeed in getting Napolitano canned, her likely next move would be … running for Senate in Arizona, where she’d be well positioned to turn the seat blue thanks to the internecine McCain/Simcox primary bloodletting to come. Napolitano must stay!

There is no way Napolitano could defeat McCain in a straight up election. A large part of the reason she bailed as Arizona’s governor is because of what a terrible job she had been doing. Her approval ratings were in the toilet and many Democrats were even questioning whether she would be their candidate in 2010 against McCain.

So all that “bipartisan reaching across the aisle” rhetoric from Obowa and the dems was just campaign fluff?

Cool. But I agree, let Napolitano stay and act as yet another anchor on the Obamatanic.

I really doubt it, unless an awful lot of republican/conservative voters decide to sit home in Nov. 2010 to “teach the GOP a lesson” again.

Napolitano isn’t real popular in AZ, from what I’ve heard, and her short time in the national spotlight hasn’t exactly made her look better.

She has put a majority of Americans on an Obama administration “Enemies of the State” or at least “Potential Enemies of the State” list. I would think that would be a little too blatently fascist for even Barackito Obamalini. But then, maybe not.

NO! Janet is a fucking incompetent and needs to go. If she can’t reign in the left wing idiots in DHS, this website would end up being published from a re-education camp.

GarandFan on April 22, 2009 at 9:08 PM

Who would replace her? That is the thing. People can say she is not that popular in Arizona, but they elected her Governor and if Simcox creates a big division in the GOP there I would imagine she would have a good chance of winning the Senate seat. That is not a primary, that is a general election.

Ted Torgerson on April 22, 2009 at 9:12 PM

Napolitano is way out of her league.

She might as well stay where she is. Seems she fits in to this Administration quite well. And this is important as we face the 2010 elections and gear up to 2012. Keeping Napolitano in the spot light might just work to convince a lot of leaning and undecided voters to actually make an informed choice when they vote next year and in 2012.

I want this present Congress to find most of its members unemployed, and soon, and this Administration taken down by the power of the ballot in 2012 and a lesson learned that America will not soon forget.

Hope and Change don’t pay the rent, won’t secure our borders…and will probably cost the lives of innumerable Americans along the way. They bought it. They own it. And I want them to wear it as a scarlet letter for the rest of their days.

coldwarrior on April 22, 2009 at 9:13 PM

AP, you’re so short sighted. You always see things through the political prism. Napolitano must stay, only because she might take a Senate seat if she leaves? How about the fact that she’s incompetently charge of a large part of our national defense? I guess politics trumps national security in your eyes.

Grow up, dude.

This is so true. Providing the Zionist nonbelievers with support against Muslims, whether they are Hezbollah who fight for the sake of Allah or ordinary Palestinians, is forbidden by Islamic Shariah law. It is a major act of disbelief and he who commits this is considered a dissident of Islam, because it falls within the framework of supporting disbelievers over Muslims.

The great dream of Islam will come true. Muslims dream to see flags that read: “There is no god but Allah” fluttering in the wind on the Temple Mount and Haram al-Sharif, Allah willing.

I don`t want her to stay just to show America how sucky the adminstration is.

This is the security of our country we`re talking about, I want someone who knows what they`re doing in charge.

I am the party of YES!

YES to smaller governmet/accountable budgeting (not simply spending)
YES to lower taxes
YES to a strong national and homeland defense
YES to ANWR and offshore drilling

ThePrez on April 22, 2009 at 9:48 PM

It’s not a YES unless the happy police have agreed that it’s a YES. Therefore, your YES is their NO.

True Congress is gonna fast track health Care real soon.

The crash is coming faster than we thought

Obama is already setting up all the elements of turning us into a third world banana republic – why not throw socialized medicine into the mix and complete the “change”.

That’s it! You’re on the DHS list too punk! LOL!

TheBigOldDog on April 22, 2009 at 9:43 PM

It would be my honor to be on that motherfckin list

I tend to pride myself on knowing I could hold off DHS for a while. I have the hill on a house. Bolt lock doors
few thousand rounds of ammo
Tommy gun
AR15
.45 Kimber
30/30
mossberg 500
couple .22s and some old ratty shotgun

yea they’d a eventually double tap me — but we gun owners know how to handle ourselves a bit
i know yall do

YES I WILL vote these lazy bums out of office!

TN Mom on April 22, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Actually, conservatives have almost 1.5 more kids per couple than leftists. It’s only lefty control of the teachers’ union and GOP f*ckups that keeps the left competitive in national elections.

Something tells me that if Obama doesn’t outlaw homeschooling and private schools, that this will be drastically changing…
