Quote of the day
posted at 10:35 pm on April 21, 2009 by Allahpundit
“By going along with Secretary Duncan’s plan to hollow out the D.C. voucher program this president, who has spoken so passionately about the importance of education, is playing rank politics with the education of poor children. It is an outrage…
This reckless dismantling of the D.C. voucher program does not bode well for arguments to come about standards in the effort to reauthorize No Child Left Behind. It does not speak well of the promise of President Obama to be the ‘Education President,’ who once seemed primed to stand up for all children who want to learn and especially minority children.
And its time for all of us to get outraged about this sin against our children.”

Honestly, the sin against our children is the spending that is going on right now. This is ridiculous, but the spending is even more outrageous.

I’m a career public school teacher. It’s over folks. Home school your children if you can’t afford a private school. Let the dead bury the dead. If we don’t have vouchers than education is over in the U.S.

And to think Juan Williams was literally creaming his pants on election night when the election was called for Obama. Looks like old Juan’s hero has feet of clay, don’t it?

Yeah, I have friends that went into education, but the system is too big for them to take on.
On the other hand, I was homeschooled, and so far everything is working out just fine… It’s really hard for me to “relate” to the college freshmen that I now teach. I’m shocked at their “skill level.”

I used to respect Juan Williams, he always gave valid points for his positions. After the election, however, he has swallowed a whole gallon of kool-aid. I’m surprised he hasn’t spun this around and blamed republicans, somehow, for this travesty. I take Juan’s outrage with a grain of salt.

I fear though that he is ticking off too many people off on the left though. He will soon be silenced or forced out :(

When it comes to statements like this that Obama makes you have to read between the lines and interpret what he is really saying. When Obama says that he is going to be the Education President what he really means is that he is going the be the “Education Union President”.

I think people blow the “bad education system” a wee bit out of proportion. Yea education in the ghetto is awful. But public schools in the ‘burbs, especially in the upper middle class areas is quite good.
If Obama wants to doom poor, black kids to stay poor and illiterate, so be it. It’s sad, but what the hell? Their parents voted for this buffoon by a 97% to 3% margin. Screw them. They’re getting what they deserve.

I don’t often agree with Juan, but I sure do on this one. And why do we stop with DC??? We need school vouchers in every state to break the strangle hold on public schools by the teachers unions. Most private schools do a better job of teaching kids with much less spent per kid. Why do we have to spend twice to get kids educated once? And we might get a generation of kids that aren’t all leftists.
Christian Conservative on April 21, 2009 at 11:17 PM
Every now and then, Juan gets it right. However, the other times, he drinks to much of the O Kool-Aid.
But, I totally agree with Juan on this.
I am Hispanic and went to an urban High School where we are last on SAT scores. I worked my butt off to get a scholarship and leave the school for a better one, but my city voted down a voucher program, and we were unfairly sticking with a failed school system.
Luckily by 11th and 12th grade, I got better teachers and actually learned something, but I would have loved to go to another school.
I would have actually learned about American history , etc.
I basically had to teach myself. Believe me, college was a shock. But I made ground.
These poor children deserve a great education. A shame how politicians play with the future of these children to get union support. Despicable.

There are some that would say that that is exactly what progressive Democrats like Obama have been doing on purpose for a long time. By keeping urban minority groups like African Americans and Latinos poor and uneducated it helps to perpetuate the culture of victimhood that is prevalent in these communities making them more disposed to vote for the Democrats because they are supposedly the party of Social Justice.
Dreadnought223 on April 21, 2009 at 11:22 PM
i am prone to cut Juan some slack on this. He seems sincere in his liberal beliefs and isn’t an insufferable hack like most of the liberal talking heads on TV. And I think when he welled up on Election Night it had less to do with the fact that the Democrat won and more to do with racial identity. I’m guessing (obviously just guesing) he had always thought it wouldn’t happen in his lifetime.
