Miss California: I wasn’t politically correct, I was Biblically correct

posted at 3:45 pm on April 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

Good lord. Between her beauty, her stand on principle, and her serenity after such a crushing disappointment, even I’m ready to convert. Lauer clearly seems sympathetic to her, too. Maggie Gallagher’s right: This is a PR bonanza for gay-marriage opponents, and the stupider and nastier Perez “dumb bitch” Hilton gets, the bigger the bonanza is. Last night he whined to Larry King that she should have been more politically correct while insisting that he didn’t hold her position on gay marriage against her; here he complains that she should have left her politics out of an answer to an overtly political question and punctuates it with “I don’t want her talking about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus because that’s offensive to all of the Jewish-Americans,” etc. Which makes me think his issue with her might in fact be mostly about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Note to future pageant contestants: No believers allowed. Too “uninclusive.”

She was just on Cavuto responding to one of the questions the other girls got… She doesn’t believe tax money should be bailing out failing companies or be going to welfare.

She can be our Miss USA, and my date to the next tea party!

It was a lot worse than calling her a b*tch, Perez was calling her a c*nt on the radio.

Blake on April 21, 2009 at 4:42 PM

we are talking about a leader who had to govern in the 17th century world, of a corrupt and evil Catholic Church and for a nation that had enemies attacking them left in right.

I’m not sure how that’s so much different than where we’re at now. I’m not calling out the Catholic Church, but there are certainly plenty of corrupt and evil churches all around, and we’ve no shortage of enemies.

Well, listened to the end, the actual Matt pipes up with “So that’s how you explain it to yourself?”

Eeesh, he is sitting there next to a woman who has publicly defend her faith (not her attitudes or thought-patterns)and done it with a lot of class – and all he can think is she is simply delusion. Gorgeous, polite, but a bit off on the thinking department.

Oh Matt, thank you for letting her say her piece though – and for the slight defense of the lady, but you are still a clown.

kybowexar on April 21, 2009 at 4:43 PM

The Leftist implying she had trouble answering the question should consider that her demeanor is miles ahead of President Zero without his teleprompter.

viking01 on April 21, 2009 at 4:44 PM

Personally, I think Hilton’s comments to Lauer were more depraved than his name-calling. Demanding that a woman that represents the USA be politically correct? That she not have a mind of her own or state her opinion? To shut up in case she offends a small minority of the country?

Perez Hitler sounds more apposite.

For the record, Lauer’s report on the video deceptively claims prop 8 banned gay marriage in California. NBC and these idiots who ignore change historical events like prop 22 and now 8, don’t know how to report that both props were a re-affirmation by the people of the state that marriage is between one man and one woman. You can not ban something that was never legitimate in the first place.

Rovin on April 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM

that woman is more courageous than that shmuck clown Perez Hilton. All Perez does is get behind a computer and viciously attack people and celebs for no reason at all and when he gets rebuffed, he uses his being gay as his defense.

Meanwhile Miss California takes a stand on a very controversial issue that she knew would have snuffed her chances at the crown, and then holds her head up high to weasels who try to claw at her feet. Good for her.

There’s no such thing as a bad reason to go to church.

Esthier on April 21, 2009 at 4:37 PM

I disagree strongly. There are many bad reasons to go to church. Here are a few:

1. To pick up chicks.
2. To meet with nice people.
3. To attend the car show.
4. To watch a movie.
5. To feel good about oneself.
6. To feel uplifted.

MirCat on April 21, 2009 at 4:28 PM

Of course we knew he was lying, but the point is that no one was indignant toward him for giving the answer, especially not Perez, who was a big supporter of his. There were other candidates besides those in the major parties who he could have backed if this was truly such a huge issue for him.

And as for his rationalization that Miss USA is supposed to unite and represent us all, that’s kind of what he and other liberals claim Obama has done.

“Oliver Cromwell.”The power of Papal propaganda has maligned Cromwell and made him the monster he never was as far as Ireland is concerned. I would suggest that those who want to study Cromwell in Ireland should read Antonia Fraser’s Cromwell: The Chief of Men on this episode of Cromwell’s life. “She puts forward a cool and convincing defence of Cromwell in Ireland, which will be a surprise to Irish readers brought up on legend rather than facts.” – Sunday Telegraph.

By the way, can one of you guys in the Greenroom do a post about LGF and Charles’ erratic behavior? I just scanned LGF’s homepage for the first time a week and noticed that he’s trumpeting the fact that Media Matters, Gawker, and DailyKos agree with him about Glenn Beck.

When you’re an established conservative blogger, does a little “useful idiot” alarm bell not go off when your opposition starts cheering you on?

Either way, would love to see a thread about this in the greenroom since a Pajamas Media slapfight is probably not in the best interest of MM, Allah, or Ed.

rollthedice on April 21, 2009 at 4:52 PM

Hm. What happened to my comment?

In any event, I’ll start again, sorry if the first part of this is a dupe.

Perez Hilton is a dork. I’m a Non-Denominational-American, and I am not “offended” by talk of Jesus, Mohamed, Moses, David, Bahá’u'lláh, or any other religious figure. This whole idea that mentioning Jesus to a Jew is offensive is what results in the stupidity of “holiday trees”. It’s condescension of the highest degree, and exposes the small-minded, affected superiority of the PC crowd.

mr.blacksheep on April 21, 2009 at 4:52 PM

“I don’t want her talking about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus because that’s offensive to all of the Jewish-Americans,”

What is this nonsense pouring out of this self proclaimed ‘queen of all media’!?

I’m Jewish through & through and I have never once had a problem with anyone discussing Jesus, nor saying his name 3 times in a row, nor do I support gay marriage, and I’ll go one further, I do not support gay couples adopting either. The notion that discussing Jesus is offensive to Jewish people is absurd beyond reproach – Au contraire, I found Hilton’s braindead comments quite offensive!!

May I add that this woman is positively gorgeous.. and would make any state proud to have her represent in a pageant.

Why are those bad reasons? Can’t church still help?

All those people Jesus healed were there to be healed physically and had no idea what they were in for after being touched. God can use anything. There’s no reason to act as though he can’t.

Also it might be fun to see him surrounded by Californian African Americans who OVERWHELMINGLY voted down prop 8. Let him call them names as well.

That is incomprehensible.

This is very clear, the majority opinion of the country, the current law in most of it, the position of the current President and every one before him.

progressoverpeace on April 21, 2009 at 5:01 PM

Yeah, but a de facto incorporation of Biblical laws into government law would produce something akin to Sharia if a majority voted the way implied by Carrie. The Constitution and courts prevent this, and a federalist approach gives people some variation in state law.

dedalus on April 21, 2009 at 4:16 PM

This might seem like nitpicking, but it’s actually one of the most important things people don’t usually understand.

The part I bolded above undercuts the point you were making. If there’s a vote through ordinary constitutional means, then it’s not theocracy however much the particular law tracks religious belief. The sources of law and the means by which they’re created are what matter in viewing a system as theocratic or not. It’s not nearly as relevant if the substantive law itself follows a religious belief.

Let’s keep sharia as an example. The sources of law are the Quran and Sunnah (life of Mo) as read by muftis (one kind of high sharia judge). There’s fiqh, various maddhab and whatnot which can confuse you into thinking it’s a bit like common law. But the fact is the sources of law are Quran and Sunnah, only. “Man-made” law as they call it is never valid. Nobody votes and courts don’t rely on precedent in previous cases. Case law is irrelevant and not even recorded.

So to get back to your example, if people actually vote it’s not real theocracy. I used to think Christian views being implemented through law was theocracy, until the real thing reared its ugly head in Islam over the last thirty years. Then the Enlightenment views I always thought I understood really made sense.

It’s not theocracy to tell someone their book’s subject is a sin, however much that annoys one’s secular modern outlook. But it is theocracy to put a fatwa of death on the author’s head for writing it.

Ricki
I was born Jewish, baptized in ’96, and after fliting back and forth between the two faiths-have decided that the L-d wants me to be a Jewish woman.
I’m a born and bred conservative/libertarian.
My husband and son are Christian-as is my very fundamentalist mother-in-law. Very soon I’ll have to tell my church that I will no longer be attending because I don’t believe the “Message”. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I’ve spent the majority of my adult life-until now- as a Jewish apostate-Jesus doesn’t bother me.
He doesn’t matter enough to me to bother me.
What will bother me is when my friends-upon hearing of my return to Judaism-go into full time “witnessing” mode.
I take the attitude that people can believe what they want-as long as they don’t bash me over the head with it.

The Sunday Times says: “Lady Antonia wishes us to show that Cromwell was no tyrant, was not ambitious, had a bursting conscience, and was civilised. The evidence she has assembled is overwhelming.”

The Sunday Telegraph says: “Lady Antonia sees, better than anyone has, the complexities of his character, the different strains in it. The author puts forward a cool, and convincing, defence of Cromwell in Ireland, which will be a surprise to Irish readers brought up on the legend rather than the facts.”

Need we say anything further about the lies that have been peddled against Cromwell by his enemies? What Cromwell himself said to Col. Norton on March 28, 1648, has more than come true: “I know God has been above all ill reports and will in His own time vindicate me.”

Uh, no.

Spirit of 1776 on April 21, 2009 at 5:09 PM

Well I was almost there on the gay marriage thing but after seeing this exchange I think I’ll stay firmly on the side of tolerance…

DanMan on April 21, 2009 at 5:11 PM

She looks and sounds just like my wife! ;P

kirkill on April 21, 2009 at 5:12 PM

She was just on Cavuto responding to one of the questions the other girls got… She doesn’t believe tax money should be bailing out failing companies or be going to welfare.

She can be our Miss USA, and my date to the next tea party!

RightWinged on April 21, 2009 at 4:42 PM

Any way we can get video of that? I’m really interested in what she has to… um… say.

Sir Corky on April 21, 2009 at 5:12 PM

I’ve had it up to my keester with these in-your-face angry-at-the-world homosexuals, slavery-clingers, and over-the-top grievance mongers of every stripe.

Talk about a textbook example of how decency can be turned against you.

Personally, I happen to believe the decent people in this country VASTLY outnumber the hate-mongers of the left who are wallowing in their perceived triumph over morality at the moment.

I’m thinking back on WWII and remembering that it took a heck of a lot to rouse the wrath of the just, but when they were finally aroused, the justice that was recked was earth shattering.

Yes. That same woman cold-cocking a certain celebrity tripe merchant.

.is jp one of those trolls, mentioned earlier by Michelle?

VTWaldrup on April 21, 2009 at 5:14 PM

Miss California: I wasn’t politically correct, I was Biblically correct

So let her run for Miss Bible.

strangelet on April 21, 2009 at 5:16 PM

Don’t bet on it.

MadisonConservative on April 21, 2009 at 5:04 PM
Yep.

carbon_footprint on April 21, 2009 at 5:05 PM

I guess you guys are dumber than I thought. Gay people dont consider that a derogatory term.

You need to read a paper or something.

The Wall on April 21, 2009 at 5:16 PM

First Susan Boyle of Scotland and now Ms. Prejean of California, talk about a season of miracles.

When Texas secedes… I wonder if Miss California will be interested in becoming our Queen? She believes in Jesus so we can forgive the being from California part.

Some do. Some black people also call each other a certain word that wouldn’t be a wise idea to call them.

carbon_footprint on April 21, 2009 at 5:20 PM

She’s awesome. I saw her this morning on MSNBC, and she did very well.

Hilton is losing this battle on all fronts. I think he was on thin ice by calling her a dumb b*tch, but his using the C-word yesterday has settled in. Even though the MSNBC crew didn’t play that clip, the interviewer (Tamron Hall) went out of her way to mention it, and she seemed a very sympathetic interviewer.

Gay marriage has a new face, and it’s disheveled, unattractive, foul-mouthed, Perez Hilton dumping on the sweet, woman-of-our-dreams Miss California.

Keep up the attack, PH.

Brings up an interesting question, where did Miss Prejean grow up? Berkley? San Francisco?
My guess is some small conservative California town.
Of course generalizations are not precise at all.

strangelet on April 21, 2009 at 5:16 PM

hey douchenozzle, she kept her personal beliefs out of it until Perez Hilton forced her to answer a political yes-or-no question on the spot.

Are you insinuating that Christians need not apply for beauty pagants due to their beliefs?

alteredbeat on April 21, 2009 at 5:22 PM

OK, I am gay. I don’t think the question should have been asked. And, I don’t like the behavior of Mr. Perez. As time goes on I am sure that this Miss America contest will be remembered, while others just fade away. Good luck to Miss California.

SC.Charlie on April 21, 2009 at 5:22 PM

here he complains that she should have left her politics out of an answer to an overtly political question and punctuates it with “I don’t want her talking about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus because that’s offensive to all of the Jewish-Americans,” etc. Which makes me think his issue with her might in fact be mostly about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.

It is. There’s been enough ministers imprisoned or fined in Canada, Sweden and elsewhere to make that abundantly clear.

Perez Hilton is a deranged lunatic thinking Miss USA (or anyone else) should censor themselves so as not to offend a small minority. As for Matt Lauer, he is a moron with his “That’s how you explain it to yourself?”comment. Dumb and dumber. I wish we could get her for our next tea party.
