Miss California: I wasn’t politically correct, I was Biblically correct
posted at 3:45 pm on April 21, 2009 by Allahpundit
Good lord. Between her beauty, her stand on principle, and her serenity after such a crushing disappointment, even I’m ready to convert. Lauer clearly seems sympathetic to her, too. Maggie Gallagher’s right: This is a PR bonanza for gay-marriage opponents, and the stupider and nastier Perez “dumb bitch” Hilton gets, the bigger the bonanza is. Last night he whined to Larry King that she should have been more politically correct while insisting that he didn’t hold her position on gay marriage against her; here he complains that she should have left her politics out of an answer to an overtly political question and punctuates it with “I don’t want her talking about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus because that’s offensive to all of the Jewish-Americans,” etc. Which makes me think his issue with her might in fact be mostly about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Note to future pageant contestants: No believers allowed. Too “uninclusive.”

Having just knocked Hilton for using epithets about Miss Cali, I don’t want commenters using epithets or anti-gay invective about him. No further warnings.

nicely worded, AP.

Here’s a biblical lesson for you Hilton

Defector01 on April 21, 2009 at 3:49 PM
Hilton is the master of self-promotion. Either way, this was going to work for him. If the contestant didn’t believe in gay marriage, as Miss California does, this is what would have happened. If she answered the way he wanted, it would have been a boon for him that he would have ridden on.
And if she did answer in favor of gay marriage, and didn’t win, you bet your butt he would have claimed that’s why she didn’t win as well.
Sir Corky on April 21, 2009 at 3:49 PM
What about invective that is specifically anti Perez, but not anti-gay?
For example:
Perez’ mother dresses him funny.

Good for her. She’s a good example for my 3 daughters on how to formulate a position, posit it, defend it, and refuse to jettison it for a tiara.
The Truth is the Truth even if no one believes it, and a lie is a lie even if EVERYONE believes it. Way to go, Maggie.

You might have to given her view that the state governments should do what is Biblically correct.

Crazy that she put forth the same opinion that the majority of the state she represented also did with Prop 8, huh? If only we could be so lucky with our “Republican” Congressmen.

She spoke what she believed. That’s more some so called preachers would do. As for Perez, I ask God to unharden his heart.
Sanjoboy on April 21, 2009 at 3:51 PM
Perez is not a very nice person. He really pushed his agenda a little to far. If anything, he has taken the gay/lesbian marriage side backwards considerably.
She comes out of this pretty good. Whose the Hater now Perez?

She is a classy woman against a classless clown.
She is taking the high road, and I have more respect for her. Perez Hilton’s viciousness reminds me of Meghan’s take on politics. Both of them smear other people for attention and it works, sadly.

What kills me about this is how Hilton and the Pageants organizers try to paint her as some lunatic fringe or something. They just had an election not 6 months ago where the majority of the state agreed with her.
Rocks on April 21, 2009 at 3:53 PM
Exactly right, just as the hysteria by the Prop 8 opponents destroyed their credibility.
By abandoning the pretense of a principled and reasoned stand, the gay “marriage” supporters doom their cause to an already hostile audience.

I just hate that they have the stupid “answer portion” anyway.
It’s like deciding the football game in the last minute by asking the players to do a little calculus for you. Who cares what they think? They’re there because they’re thin, pretty, and can twirl a baton/tap dance/sing, not because they have some interesting foreign policy ideas.

I never understand why Jews worry about those that believe in Jesus and want to make them “shut up”. As a Jew who sent her son to an Episcopalian boys school in SF and was constantly asked, Aren’t you afraid that one day your son would be believe in Jesus, I just rolled my eyes. Now I live in a suburb of Boston which is heavily Jewish and the Jews were up in arms because a statewide test was being given on Passover and could not be changed. I had to laugh. Jews have brought this upon themselves. Always looking to stop Christian holidays, no more Christmas, no more Easter and their constant drumming that their can be no mention of Christianity in the public schools has come home to roost. Now all religious holidays have become meaningless. Serves them all right.

I find it ironic that Perez congratulates himself for asking “relevant” and “heated” questions and then states that he would have “appreciated it if she would have left her politics and her religion” out. Perez, if you ask questions of political and religious significance, you will get a political and religious answer.

Obviously, most know where I stand on this. So I won’t go on about it.
Suffice to say, after having watched a clip from MSNBC (yeah, that doesn’t happen much) with a post-pageant interview with Hilton…and a replay of Ms. Cali’s answer…
Even tho I disagree with her position, she did handle herself with class, and gave a truthful, non-harming answer. And that’s what she was supposed to do.
Perez, by calling her the “b” word (and saying he’d rather have called her the “c” word) was just classless.
There ya have it.

Are you maintaining governments should never do what is viewed as biblically correct? Or that people who believe it should not have opinions? And she never said that.
It’s not an establishment of religion to have laws which track the bible. It’s an establishment of religion to use the bible as a/the only legal text. See sharia and the Quran in about fifty countries.

Specifically, commenters responded to LI’s rhetorical question, which now has CK upset because it makes commenters at HotAir look like bozos.

As someone who voted against Proposition 8, Mr. Lavandeira (“Hilton”) does not speak for me. His fame is indicative of a lot that is wrong with America, and his epithet fits himself more than Miss California. Left unasked of him was the question, “Do you think our President is a dumb bitch for holding the same view as Miss California?”

Perez wants Miss USA to represent “all Americans,” but basically says he wants her to have no personality of her own. I thought liberals wanted us to be a country based on diversity instead of homogeneity. I guess that doesn’t apply when a Christian is involved.
