Miss California: I wasn’t politically correct, I was Biblically correct

posted at 3:45 pm on April 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

Good lord. Between her beauty, her stand on principle, and her serenity after such a crushing disappointment, even I’m ready to convert. Lauer clearly seems sympathetic to her, too. Maggie Gallagher’s right: This is a PR bonanza for gay-marriage opponents, and the stupider and nastier Perez “dumb bitch” Hilton gets, the bigger the bonanza is. Last night he whined to Larry King that she should have been more politically correct while insisting that he didn’t hold her position on gay marriage against her; here he complains that she should have left her politics out of an answer to an overtly political question and punctuates it with “I don’t want her talking about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus because that’s offensive to all of the Jewish-Americans,” etc. Which makes me think his issue with her might in fact be mostly about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Note to future pageant contestants: No believers allowed. Too “uninclusive.”

A lot of fellow Christians do I guess. It’s difficult being a Christian and being an artist.

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 6:52 PM

Probably just my mood- no biggie. I consider myself a Christian as well as an artist, but mine’s more of a mixed medium folk art vs. anything that could remotely be viewed as actual anatomy.

anniekc on April 21, 2009 at 7:08 PM

Well, you know it’s not a sin. There’s no commandment about it.

You asked if it was ok to examine naked pictures of women so you could make human models (or at least thats the impression I got). I am telling you that regardless of what the subject is, if you cannot do it in good faith, then what you are doing is sin.

No, I really don’t have any doubt. It was a fair question.

My only point in any of this is Christians run the risk of sounding like the Taliban with unreasonable demands of modesty when the Bible isn’t all that specific. The same standards wouldn’t be levied against another professional such as a doctor because they had a professional need to understand how the body works.

The result is that trolls like…

dcwvu on April 21, 2009 at 6:09 PM

…use our own Bible teaching against us. Or try.

She wore a bikini and is immodest and therefore immoral and therefore no better than Perez. There’s a reasonable understanding that one extreme is gratuitous nudity and the other is a burka. Neither is all that moral in my book to begin with.

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 7:16 PM

And if she had won, I would have minced right on up there, and snatched that crown right off her head.

Would have “tried” to snatch that crown, biotch. Tried. She might grabbed you by your little pretzel arm and played Gumby with you for a while for all you know. Those gals work out, don’t forget.

Look how he reveals himself as just another liberal fascist. My way or the highway.

smellthecoffee on April 21, 2009 at 7:18 PM

Between her beauty, her stand on principle, and her serenity after such a crushing disappointmen

Was happy she answered sweetly in the contest while being honest but hadn’t expected so much active (what seems close to) cheer in the loss. What a witness this woman is. We have a good Lord indeed. Thanks for the respectful words and for posting, AP.

inviolet on April 21, 2009 at 7:18 PM

You asked if it was ok to examine naked pictures of women so you could make human models (or at least thats the impression I got).

I never said either. That’s what you were thinking. I’m afraid that’s what a lot of Christians might think. I did specifically say my sculptures were of a military theme. Stands to reason the preponderance would be male. Some female. I’m working on a female aviator right now. I’m hoping I can finish ir before I deploy next week.

I am telling you that regardless of what the subject is, if you cannot do it in good faith, then what you are doing is sin.

NeverLiberal on April 21, 2009 at 7:14 PM

And that was my point. Except for a bit more intrinsic appreciation, I don’t see my subject much less pragmatically than a doctor does their patient.

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 7:26 PM

I’ve never liked Perez. I always wondered why he was given air time on Fox News as well as other shows, but especially Fox News. I usually have it on a lot, being a work-at-home type, but Perez Hilton on Fox always made me change the channel.

His moronic blog is one of the worst sites I’ve seen on the Web. I ended up there once out of curiousity, but never again. Does he still do that juvenile writing on photos w/ MS Paint?

Anyway, he used to just be annoying, but this is over the top. Whatta Jerk.

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 7:16 PM

What is modest will change from culture to culture. However, the determining factor is whether what you wear is suggestive and encourages the opposite sex to unnecessarily lust after you. Skimpy bikinis are most certainly suggestive or else men wouldn’t wait with anxious fervor for the swimsuit competition. I am not judging Miss California, she seems like a righteous woman. However, that does not mean I would encourage my daughter to walk around nearly naked on a catwalk so every man in America could lust after her.

NeverLiberal on April 21, 2009 at 7:27 PM

Point well taken. Again, my only reason to even go so OT was the trolls assertion that Prejeans moral opinion about gay marriage was somehow hypocritical because she wore a bikini in a beauty pageant.

I appreciate your opinion.

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 7:28 PM

Yes, but nearly as often as I’d like!

anniekc on April 21, 2009 at 7:44 PM

This is what you young guys should be looking for in a wife. How would you like to be married to someone like her helping you raise your children. Makes homelife a lot easier. Of course, you have to be a decent individual yourself.

cjs1943 on April 21, 2009 at 7:51 PM

Yes, but nearly as often as I’d like!

NOT nearly as often as I’d like. Brother!

anniekc on April 21, 2009 at 7:53 PM

I understand what that judge meant: If you don’t hold my point-of-view, you don’t get a high grade. He said her position on gay marriage was offensive to the gay community and “lacks the inclusiveness we look for in Miss U.S.A,” but if she said gay marriage should be legal, that would be offensive to people who believe marriage should be between one man and one woman.

Why is his community more important than her community’s values and feelings?

And another thing, if you ask someone their political opinion on something, particularly on divisive political issues, you will get a positive and negative audience response.

Kudos to Miss California for actually answering the question in a clear fashion and stating what she believed is right. It did cost her the pageant, but she kept her honor. Perhaps that is more important than winning.

Frank T.J Mackey on April 21, 2009 at 7:54 PM

Also, I agree with her answer, and furthermore I don’t think her answer is in the minority. She basically said:

a) the state should make the decision, not the federal government.

Agree. Federalism. Marriage is not a constitutional and should be left up to the people to decide.

b) marriage is a tradition in America, and that tradition is a union between one man and one woman.

Agree. Marriage ceremonies have traditionally been between one man and one woman, and that crosses cultural and religious barriers.

Frank T.J Mackey on April 21, 2009 at 8:00 PM

Ughghhghghghhgh.

I loathe Perez. Why must my fellow gays be so combative over the “M” word?!

Way to set us all back because you have to get up on your tiny cross, Perez. Ugh. Perez needs to talk less and eat cheeseburgers more.

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 8:12 PM

hawkdriver on April 21, 2009 at 8:12 PM

Ha! I don’t care what he eats. I just care when he’s making himself the “face” of the gay community, and making all of us look as hysterical and ridiculous as he is.

lansing quaker on April 21, 2009 at 8:22 PM

very true. but this is just more intolerance on the part of the gay ‘rights’ movement. its a fascist movement bent on imposing their view on the rest of us, and restricting the freedom of speech, and religion for the rest of us.

just another example of liberal tolerance

I like how the left wants the right to keep politics out of anything we do. While they are free to interject…No…impose their polotics on everyone who does not agree with them. Hmm, I think there is a term for that. Can’t think of it right now as I am a conservative and not allowed to have thoughts.

I have not been following this discussion, but are you being serious? You do realize Mary Magdalene as well as many of Jesus’ followers were in fact prostitutes and burlesque performers? You also realize that Adam and Eve ran around naked?

If you think she is immoral for walking around in a bikini, fine that is your opinion. But you also better recognize your own illicit thoughts as sinful when seeing her in that bikini. You were obviously experiencing some lust which made you uncomfortable.

Dude, did you even read that whole comment. What you cut and pasted is what the troll was asserting. Read the thread.

If you’re too tired to do that.

No, I don’t think she was being. But I was seriously saying that’s what one of the newer thread trolls was saying.

Like I said, that’s why I asked if you were being serious. I could not tell. The lay out of your post was confusing, I’m used to seeing quotes in blocks.

Thanks for answering my question.

Daemonocracy on April 21, 2009 at 9:46 PM

I am not judging Miss California, she seems like a righteous woman.

I on the other hand have no problem judging her. The fact of the matter is is that, as Christian, she shouldn’t be competing in a competition which requires her to where clear-cut immodest “clothing.” The men who lust after her will be held to account, but so will she, for dressing so provocatively.

2Brave2Bscared on April 21, 2009 at 9:47 PM

I find it rather odd that her real name (Carrie Prejean) is barely used in this (5 pages so far) thread…not at all on the first page (including the original post ALLAH), and like a single mention on the 2nd page, and hardly any after that. I’m not sure what that means, and maybe I should have already known her name by now (I didn’t), but that’s not gonna bode well for this discussion being found in search engines down the road.

If this is her 15 minutes, you should at least mention her, er, I mean Carrie Prejean’s name for doing the right thing. The lady deserves some respect, IMO.

ornery_independent on April 22, 2009 at 2:42 AM

…Why are those bad reasons?

They are bad reasons because you can go for those reasons and still be lost and go to hell.

Can’t church still help?

Of course you can but that is irrelevent.

You can go to a restaurant to go to the bathroom, but you wont get fed.
You can go to JiffyLube to meet your friend, but your car won’t get maintenance.
You can go to the hospital to watch people, but you won’t get well.

My point: is what is the purpose of church? Look at the examples in scripture.

It’s for hearing the word of God.
It’s for conviction of sin and the need of a savior.
It’s for fellowship with fellow believers in Christ to share in God’s mercy and grace.

All those people Jesus healed were there to be healed physically and had no idea what they were in for after being touched. God can use anything. There’s no reason to act as though he can’t.

Esthier on April 21, 2009 at 4:53 PM

I never suggested that he can’t. God is sovereign. He uses foolishness to comfound the wise. But many of those healed people are likely to be lost. God healed them to demonstrate his power.

Wrong
Where do christian girls hang out ? Church
Go forth and be fruitful and multiply or something

To enjoy the music
Obviously you have never been to a Church of Christ. The congregation sings(no choir). Nobody enjoys listening to it trust me on this one.

kangjie on April 21, 2009 at 4:54 PM

You can go to meet christian girls but your soul can still be lost for eternity.

shick on April 22, 2009 at 6:33 AM

On the other hand, the fact that you are in church means you will hear the message and who knows, miracles do happen.

MarkTheGreat on April 21, 2009 at 4:53 PM

Yes. The miracle you speak of is God removing a cold heart of stone and enmity with GOd and replacing it with a heart of flesh and love of God.

shick on April 22, 2009 at 6:34 AM
