I'm a non-traditional student attending BGSU. Both my husband and I attend and will be graduating next spring.

I'm not sure about the school of Diversity and Conflict Resolution - but I do know for a fact that they offer a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Needless to say, I am not impressed with the College Republicans at BGSU. First, they're not very welcoming to newcomers. So I would agree with coldwarrior's assessment of the group. CR have been completely MIA when it comes to any type of political activism on campus. They more or less waved the white flag of surrender during the election due to the liberal bend to the university. Instead of trying to change minds, they decided that their talents and resources would be better used elsewhere. It was truly sad.

There was very little advertising for the Tom Tancredo event. I just happened to stumble upon a flyer posted at the Kroger in BG. And to see the flyer you had to literally crawl back behind the cooler of ice. The was a tiny blurb in the "Get a Life" section - which advertises campus events/activities for the day.

There were no visible flyers on campus to advertise the tea party to students (at least not Thursday or Friday), and again - the only way I knew about it was because Brian Wilson at News Talk 1370 (WSPD) out of Toledo made mention of it to his listeners. I saw no signs of anything or anyone on campus - and typically anything like the tea party would have been restricted to the "free speech zone" in front of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

And for my fellow Falcons here at Hot Air... here's more great news for you...

The university is holding an "Eco-Fair" on Earth Day

And I just received a "Diversity Climate Survery" from the College of Education and Human Development Dean's Office. Accordng to the e-mail,

The main purpose of this survey is to collect information to guide future diversity activities and initiatives at BGSU and within the College of Education & Human Development (EDHD).

This is the same college where an English instructor told us that we had no right to judge a student's poor writing style based on the use of Ebonics or slang -- more or less because English was created by a bunch of dead White guys.

Blue-eyed Infidel on April 20, 2009 at 5:11 PM

The present head of the political science department is a very intelligent, articulate, and dedicated Libertarian, and a close friend. A young 30-something, too, so there is hope. The Campus Republicans, however, are pretty much that elitist preppy crowd who parrot more than they debate/discuss issues. Have no interest in getting out among the unwashed masses.

As for publicity for events...the Tancredo visit, for example...absolutely nothing save for a two sentence blurb in the campus events segment of the BGSU News prior to his visit. Nothing at all out in the local community. No posters on campus bulletin boards, either.

That "School of Diversity and Conflict Resolution?" A product of the former President of the University, who now is President of Howard.

Nope, not the BGSU I thought I knew, either.

Preview is my friend: I’m a <strike>BSGU</strike>BGSU alumna (’84) and refuse to donate any more funds during their fund raising drives, since one of the kids told me that there is now a school of ‘Diversity and Conflict Resolution’.

That is not the BGSU I know/knew and loved.

Mystery solved...sort of...

Yes. BGSU...Ohio...sponsored by the campus Republicans.

Well, that 'splains ever'thing.

Tom Tancredo was here two weeks ago....no campus publicity for that visit...none...zip.

The session ended up with a small group in a classroom preaching to a very small choir.

Hey, BGSU! Pay attention. Get the word out! Takes effort!

Do it!

Just walked in from campus...nothing.

This is BGSU...in Ohio, right?

Walked in to the office of one of the very Libertarian profs on campus, normally pretty well informed, normally wired into this stuff...hadn't heard, spoke with a couple on-campus event coordinators...pretty much the same.

So, since campus is about 7 blocks from my house...be kinda nice to get the inside skinny on this one.
