Rasmussen: 51% view tea parties favorably

posted at 7:59 pm on April 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

Sure, sure, but it’s 51 percent of the hoi polloi, not 51 percent of the Enlightened.

Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans have a favorable view of the “tea parties” held nationwide last week, including 32% who say their view of the events is Very favorable.

Thirty-three percent (33%) hold an unfavorable opinion of the tea parties according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure.

While half the nation has a favorable opinion of last Wednesday’s events, the nation’s Political Class has a much dimmer view—just 13% of the political elite offered even a somewhat favorable assessment while 81% said the opposite. Among the Political Class, not a single survey respondent said they had a Very Favorable opinion of the events while 60% shared a Very Unfavorable assessment.

In related news, 97 percent of the Political Class find “teabagging” jokes funny, even in their thousandth iteration. But only if they’re performed by left-wing cable news anchors.

Featured below, from the Dallas tea party, yet another example of the ferocious white-power structure that consumed the protests. Little-known fact, per James Carville: She was the only attendee, among hundreds of thousands, who was less than 72 years old.

The fact that 13% of the political elite held such a low opinion speaks volumes. 13% these people are pathetic all of them.

What is so great about Sarah Palin not being active in the past 4 months is that she been able to sit back while disengaged and see the universe unfold around Obama and develop a strategy how to best take advantage of the antagonism directed towards him. The tea parties are another voice which I believe she can plug into.

51% of people back the tea parties. That’s a good place for any potential GOP Presidential contender to begin her campaign.

technopeasant on April 20, 2009 at 8:05 PM

So what you’re saying is that 51% of the U.S. population is aged, senile, unpatriotic, bitter, stupid, insane and unfriendly to CNN reporters?

Isn’t this about the same percentage of people who voted for Obowa? What gives?

This is how Rasmussen defines Political Class:

Rasmussen’s definition of Political Class is found in this March post:

55% of Americans Are Populist, 7% Support the Political Class

The Political Class Index is based on three questions. All three clearly address populist tendencies and perspectives, all three have strong public support, and, for all three questions, the populist perspective is generally shared by Democrats, Republicans and those not affiliated with either of the major parties. We have asked the questions before, and the results change little whether Republicans or Democrats are in charge of the government.

Here are the 3 questions and how they calculate the index:

The questions used to calculate the Index are:

– Generally speaking, when it comes to important national issues, whose judgment do you trust more – the American people or America’s political leaders?

– Some people believe that the federal government has become a special interest group that looks out primarily for its own interests. Has the federal government become a special interest group?

– Do government and big business often work together in ways that hurt consumers and investors?

To create a scale, each response earns a plus 1 for the populist answer, a minus 1 for the political class answer, and a 0 for not sure.

Those who score 2 or higher are considered a populist or part of the Mainstream. Those who score -2 or lower are considered to be aligned with the Political Class. Those who score +1 or -1 are considered leaners in one direction or the other.

In practical terms, if someone is classified with the Mainstream, they agree with the mainstream view on at least two of the three questions and don’t agree with the Political Class on any.

Don’t let up, the seed has been planted and has begun to grow. By July an even greater percentage will support this grass roots movement. Much of the political elite are politicians and as the vice tightens they will see the light and support the movement.

jeffn21 on April 20, 2009 at 8:33 PM

Also in the RR on the Tea Parties is this gem:

One-in-four adults (25%) say they personally know someone who attended a tea party protest. That figure includes just one percent (1%) of those in the Political Class.

They also said:

Just 32% of the Political Class was following along. Among those with populist, or Mainstream, views, 68% were paying attention.

So the Political Class are comprised of people who don’t know what they’re talking about, and who have bought into the media hype and only 1% of them had personal contact re a tea party.

INC on April 20, 2009 at 8:33 PM

So 1% of the 7% of the public who comprise this Political Class had any contact with reality about the Tea Parties!

Interesting, that is when the Democrats took control of congress.

By the way, quadrupling the deficit and then cutting it in half does not make President Obama a financial genius; it’s kind of like saving those 3-1/2 million jobs. No way to do it and no way to prove it.

But the problem is the double-standard; tea parties aren’t allowed to be about Conservatives/GOP and can’t be backed by anyone with deep pockets. As soon as a high roller like Sarah Palin speaks at one of these, they will be painted as little more than campaign vehicles for the GOP, attacked and thoroughly discredit by the MSM.

Of course, I’m thinking, “so what if they are?” Every major protest movement from Vietnam on up have been organized by Leftist groups…the others by unions.

Why can’t we have a George Soros financier, major networks/newspapers, Hollywood actors, and government officials backing us for a change?

16% somewhat unfavorable.
+/- 3 % standard Rasmussen poll error……it is a wash.
I think….if you add in the cellphone vote, the favorability/unfavorabilty break is going to shake out just like that last election, Obama by 1 %. sad for you that 1% is 9.5 million votes.
That didn’t work out so well for you in 2008 did it?
;)

meh.
33% VERY favorable == republicans and befuddled juggalos. totally partisan.
17% somewhat favorable.
One black chick out of 300,000+ ?
That is best you can do?
Loozers.

no cell phone sampling either, so OLD people were oversampled.

Right, because you personally sampled them and know there was only one ‘black chick’ there…sure, good point as usual.

I’m reminded in listening to her wonderful “speech”.

SHE believes in what she says, that’s why it comes so easy compared to our TOTUS. “We will not be bullyed into socialism”

Common sense just wins out again!! Well done Texas!! :-)

I kept waiting for her to pump her fist and scream white power, but it never happened.

Oh really? I assure you this recession didn’t start at noon on January 20. We had been heading there for over a year. Bush’s economic policies were a disaster — but nevermind getting facts in the way. The recession is only because of Obama. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Actually this mess started many moons ago, when FDR implemented many public programs, and charged the tax payer for them. Social Security for starters. It got a recharge via Carter, and another push, when Clinton was in office. This entire melt down started with the housing fiasco, via the Frannie, and Freddie chumps. 2006 is when this current economic melt down started. Now what happened that year? Oh yes! The democrats took control.

Both parties get the blame, but this economic downturn didn’t start with Bush. Do some research, and you will find, this started…..many moons ago, and is now going to continue, at least thru 2010.

..And just what constitutes the ‘political class’? ‘political elite’?

I didn’t see anywhere in that report just what their definition of such a ‘polling group’ actually is..

I love cerebral women that can break it down for me.

If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.

Oh Im sure there more….just not in pictures in front of mics.
The poll sample mirrors the same breakdown that we saw in november.
1% of the black vote goes to the GOP.
Big whup.
