Rasmussen: 51% view tea parties favorably

posted at 7:59 pm on April 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

Sure, sure, but it’s 51 percent of the hoi polloi, not 51 percent of the Enlightened.

Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans have a favorable view of the “tea parties” held nationwide last week, including 32% who say their view of the events is Very favorable.

Thirty-three percent (33%) hold an unfavorable opinion of the tea parties according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure.

While half the nation has a favorable opinion of last Wednesday’s events, the nation’s Political Class has a much dimmer view—just 13% of the political elite offered even a somewhat favorable assessment while 81% said the opposite. Among the Political Class, not a single survey respondent said they had a Very Favorable opinion of the events while 60% shared a Very Unfavorable assessment.

In related news, 97 percent of the Political Class find “teabagging” jokes funny, even in their thousandth iteration. But only if they’re performed by left-wing cable news anchors.

Featured below, from the Dallas tea party, yet another example of the ferocious white-power structure that consumed the protests. Little-known fact, per James Carville: She was the only attendee, among hundreds of thousands, who was less than 72 years old.

Blowback

And just what constitutes the ‘political class’?

meh.
33% VERY favorable == republicans and befuddled juggalos. totally partisan.
17% somewhat favorable.
One black chick out of 300,000+ ?
That is best you can do?
Loozers.

no cell phone sampling either, so OLD people were oversampled.

Translation:

“Since I can’t credibly refute the data from this poll, Dear Leader Saul Alinsky says I should trash and insult it”.

Seems to me that if this were a “biased” poll. it would skew right. It does not. 51% is 1$ less of America than O’bama won, and that’s all.

2004: Bush wins 51% = “Bitterly divided nation”

2008: O’bama wins 52% = “landslide victory”

Don’t want their support they are a bunch of panderers. I want them gone , defeated, run out of town, or hung from a lamppost for lieing, abusing, failing to listen to and did I say lieing to the American People.

Dems, Rino’s, we, the American People have heard from you and you’re going to hear from all of us soon!

BS, there were no tea parties.

getalife on April 20, 2009 at 9:03 PM

I went to a a tea party (the Dallas one, in fact) and my reason was to protest big, oppressive government. I detest both Obama and high taxes but neither would be a problem if the federal government was shrunk back to it’s original intent by the original right-wing extremists, our founders.

Oh really? I assure you this recession didn’t start at noon on January 20. We had been heading there for over a year. Bush’s economic policies were a disaster — but nevermind getting facts in the way. The recession is only because of Obama. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

dcwvu on April 20, 2009 at 9:05 PM

You better look to your boy Reid and your girl Nancy. I will concede that moderate, appeasing Repubs bear some responsibility but the great majority belongs to the Dems.

Excellent post. That one fact is the one we need to be driving home during every argument we have. It is amazing how many of the idiot voters don’t have a clue that Congress went Dem in 2007. We have to hammer and hammer it home again and again! Also, about the time that gas got reaaly high is when it all started going to crap. All this Democrat green stuff like bans on drilling, cap and trade and higher fuel taxes will definitely make it worse.

Ras polls the folks who will give them the numbers they seek. Any poll is reflective those who are asked, which is not necessarily representative of anything other than the answers sought. American’s views on the tea parties should have been way higher than that reported.

That was a very interesting young woman. She is right when she says no President can change your life circumstances. And she is also right when she says a massive layoff needs to hit Washington.

But, I think the secession talk is all the critics will hear.

Of course what they should hear is the sentiment behind the secession talk..but they will dismiss her as an extremist instead.

Terrye on April 21, 2009 at 7:25 AM

BadgerHawk on April 21, 2009 at 7:48 AM

Thirty-three percent (33%) hold an unfavorable opinion of the tea parties according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Without providing the rationale that determined the unfavorable opinion, the finding lacks luster.

Dumping the land line made the improvement in peaceful and simpler home environment for us, as well. Having the cell phone at all times lends security.

As per the 33%, they simply represent the third of the nation that adores Obama no matter what. They want their free pie in the sky.

America is encumbered with a third of the population stuck on stupid.

1) Your belief that old people only use landlines indicates your biases and bigotries.
2) If it is true that the elderly had been undersampled, then 51% is low. The elderly in general are even more upset about the level of spending than the population in general.

OBQuiet on April 21, 2009 at 8:53 AM

So in your world, 950million people voted in the last election?

Those numbers refer to the next election. The one after the ACORN assisted Census and voter registrations.

OBQuiet on April 21, 2009 at 8:55 AM

It’s interesting to watch the Obama administration essentially dismiss the tea parties. Meanwhile, as the poll shows, most people knew the score. They were very non-violent demonstrations.

AnninCA on April 21, 2009 at 9:07 AM

Of course the political elite, whatever that is, has unfavorable views because tea parties threaten their power and control over the government. There was a similar outcry and belittling in California thirty years ago when Prop 13 to reign in taxes was being debated (and ultimately passed). We should also remind ourselves that this is the same political class that thought it would be marvelous to enact a comprehensive shamnesty bill a couple of years ago.

nope…..in the last election, 129.5 million people voted for Obama, and 120 million voted for McCain.
9.5 million is the difference.
However, where those people voted was sort of critical…..365 to 173 electoral college blowout.

strangelet on April 21, 2009 at 11:06 AM

IPOF, 51% of the population won’t win a presidential election, because the demographic trend is to urbanization, and urban areas are weighted far more heavily in electoral votes.
Consider GW’s electoral college win by ….what….3 votes? That year he actually lost the popular vote, but narrowly won the electoral college.
The electoral college is where you guys are bleeding.

strangelet on April 21, 2009 at 11:11 AM

And not just bleeding….mortally wounded, IMHO.

strangelet on April 21, 2009 at 11:11 AM

IMO, We need to move some of these tea parties to the front lawns of news print editors’ homes. I think that may be the only way to get their attention. Hey, if they can bus ACORN in to protest on the lawns of AIG execs, no reason we can’t do the same with the media.

The MSM is where we should be directing most of our anger now. They’re our only line of defense against corruption. Once they became the corrupt, it’s up to the people to take their country back.
