Video: Obama gets gift from new friend

Another encounter between the most popular man in Venezuela and, er, Hugo Chavez. Silly me, I thought Evil Clown had slipped the book to him last night when they shook hands. Nope: He waited to do it in public, with cameras rolling, to put him on the spot and wring every last drop of propaganda goodness from his gambit. And no wonder, given the subject of the book. As one of our readers snarked in Headlines, considering Obama’s habit of apologizing for America, he probably already owns this one.
As he did last night, all The One could manage here was a stooge-like grin and a weak quip later about how he thought it was one of Chavez’s own master works. After you watch this, go watch Gingrich lay into him about what a “terrible signal” this buddy act is sending to South America.
Update: The book’s in Spanish, by the way. El Presidente couldn’t even be bothered to find a translation. Food for thought from Tapper: “Can you imagine the world outrage if a US President gave a book in English to a non-English speaking leader?”
Update: Mission accomplished.

From the “all apologies” tour of Europe to the brown-nosing dictators tour of the Americas, Obama is really a master statesman. Hint, Mr. President, the goal of diplomacy is to win something for your country, not give away the store for nothing.

Didn’t read all the comments here, but did you know this book is currently number 2 on Amazons bestseller list? Right behind Mark Levins Liberty and Tyranny?Wonder if they are trying to knock Levins book off??????

He is representing our country just like w did.
getalife on April 18, 2009 at 6:34 PM
Not quite. W was a representative of democracy. Obama is allowing the office of the President to be used as a tool of totalitarianism. It shows him to be a puppet and a fool.

The Dope was duped.

Yes, I can. There would be absolutely none.

It’s very likely that as a consequence of him shaking hands with Mr. Chavez he has demoralized any would-be opposition to Chavez in Venezuela.
That picture will be shown far and wide in Venezuela and it will be accompanied by reports of how friendly Obama and Chavez are. Anyone who would be willing to stick their necks out to oppose Chavez will figure “why bother, we don’t stand a chance.”
You, Mr. President, were just used as a tool for Chavez’s propaganda. You either realize it and are OK with being used, or are too naive to realize what you’ve done.
Either way, you damaged opposition to Chavez in Venezuela and you damaged the credibility of the U.S. as a champion of freedom and democracy. Great job.

I don’t usually use this word but BO is just a p*ssy and the whole world knows it. He proves it wherever he goes, over & over. He is going to make Jimmy Carter look like the Marlboro man by the time it’s all said & done. Man this is depressing.

I would be a lot happier right now if I’d been wrong. :(

What I posted on the other thread:
Dayum…I go to a nice football game, come back and I still shake my head as to the direction this country is going to…Forget about black holes, unknown dimensions, Bermuda Triangle; this is some scary stuff! I am gonna end up rocking in a corner, holding my legs.
Then again, another way to look at it is, well, he is sooo smart he is pulling a major REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY on the rest of the world.

Seriously, Ed, Allah, and Mrs. Malkin need to put you on the payroll. Great perspective on yet another issue.

Oh my gawd, did you people see that? Our marxist president actually accepted a book from the other evil marxists.I will run into my bunker now, because the book accepting is the first sign of the End Times. Shaking the evil marxist’s hand was bad enough, accepting the book is surely the end of the United States as we know it. Congress should immediately begin impeachment hearings on the evil Kenyan marxist, commie, pinko, faggot known as the One.We can’t let this Obama guy run around the world talking to other world leaders, especially that Chavez devil guy. But we can buy oil from the evil marxist’s country. Business is one thing, our evil president shaking hands with their evil president is another. Woe to our country with the evil accepting of a book, which I am sure is also evil. When will the evil end? Actually the woman in the Glenn Beck 9/12 town hall meeting had it right, we should burn all the liberal books. I bet the book Chavez gave Obama is one of dem evil, liberal books. When will this national nightmare end? Obama reaching out to our enemies. Didn’t Obama see how well Bush cowboy diplomacy worked? Obama needs to be more bellicose and shrill. Only 3 1/2 more years and then we can coronate Caribou Barbie as our queen.

I’m sure he could be helpful to the O in explaining how to control public uprisings. Maybe Chavez could be the new Czar of Energy or something.
hillbilly on April 20, 2009 at 12:44 PM
Very sad, athensboy. You can’t argue on the actual diplomatic ramifications, you have to spew hyperbole. Very sad.
ManInBlack on April 20, 2009 at 12:56 PM
You’re being dishonest.

Tool.
As if communism & fascism has not killed enough people.
Badger40 on April 20, 2009 at 2:36 PM
Real cowboy diplomacy involves a rope & a fast horse.
Bush never quite pulled it off IMHO.
Too bad for the lost opportunities.

Obama = OWNED
Dr. ZhivBlago on April 20, 2009 at 10:22 PM
Obama is a disgrace – his behavior is shameful, and his disregard for the people of this nation is obvious. I hope everyone who voted for this excuse wakes up in a cold sweat with regret for what they have done.
Buddies up with Chavez, and profiles U S Veterans? This has got to stop!

If Hugo gave me that book I would use it for toilet paper.
TrickyDick on April 21, 2009 at 1:38 PM
How many tyrant buttocks will Obama kiss before he finally makes a friend? His playground diplomacy doesn’t seem to be working. Maybe after we start sending billions in aid to these dictators, one will smile and pat him on the head.
volsense on April 22, 2009 at 8:25 AM
Gee, wasn’t Obama the one who lectured us during the campaign about the need to learn foreign languages? And yet he doesn’t know Spanish?
Yo quiero vomitar.
