“There are those who think we can win the White House and Congress back by being ‘more’ conservative. Worse, there are those who think we can win by changing nothing at all about what our party has become. They just want to wait for the other side to be perceived as worse than us. I think we’re seeing a war brewing in the Republican party, but it is not between us and Democrats. It is not between us and liberals. It is between the future and the past. I believe most people are ready to move on to that future…
I am concerned about the environment. I love to wear black. I think government is best when it stays out of people’s lives and business as much as possible. I love punk rock. I believe in a strong national defense. I have a tattoo. I believe government should always be efficient and accountable. I have lots of gay friends. And yes, I am a Republican.”

And, yes, young lady, you are totally irrelevant to America.
coldwarrior on April 18, 2009 at 9:34 PM
It’s only a matter of time. If whoever her daddy picks as his political heir apparent in 2012 gets shut out during the GOP primaries, she’ll be changing her registration back to Dem in no time flat.

Reposted from Twitter: “It’s unfortunate that so many on the right hate Meggie Mac. Agree with her or not, she seems like a sweet kid who means well.”

For the love of G-d, could you please cease recognizing the existence of this pimple of a nothing? WTF is it with Allahpundit and Megan McLameBrain? Got a hard on for her or what? She’s a zilch. Enough already.
Western_Civ on April 18, 2009 at 9:36 PM
I give up. AP has such a crush on Valley Girl Meagan McVain, and getting his hands on her fat arse and her inherited fortune, that it’s becoming downright embarrassing to even watch anymore.
MB4 on April 18, 2009 at 9:37 PM
What does punk rock, her tattoo and wearing black have to do with anything? How is that even relevant? Silly me, I thought the pressing issues of the day were high taxes, the bailout crap, the DHS report, Obama’s idiotic foreign policy, etc. What planet is she living on?
TheQuestion on April 18, 2009 at 9:37 PM
“I have a tattoo”
Uh-oh. If you thought Laura Ingraham attacked her before, now it’s just going to get mean…
AdrianG on April 18, 2009 at 9:37 PM
Paris McCain is absolutely desperate to be relevant. How childish of her to assume that, by taking on a particular label to describe herself, she is in any way qualified to speak for others of that label. She is a self-important, vapid twit.
CantCureStupid on April 18, 2009 at 9:38 PM
I liked her better when she wasn’t a Republican.
Her Dad isn’t a Republican, and neither is she. They do not speak for us.
Canerican on April 18, 2009 at 9:39 PM
I bet it’s gonna sting more when in like 10 years she switches to being a Democrat.
MarcusBrody on April 18, 2009 at 9:40 PM
Don’t hate her, but she’s clearly being used by the msm, just like her daddy was, to slam conservatives. If she doesn’t change her registration to a Democrat in the 2010 elections, or she doesn’t support Dems for some odd reason, the msm will slice her throat.

She seems to be reinforcing stereotypes of conservatives in her attempts to rebrand or move Republicans toward her personal positions.
Omg, she loves punk rock?!? Republicans can’t love punk rock! She’s so precious!
But no one can mistake her for a conservative. “There are those who think we can win the White House and Congress back by being ‘more’ conservative. Worse….”
Worse? Yeah, that’s bad enough. God forbid we have a “conservative” political party.

A couple of things, I doubt if this woman has any intention or desire of sitting in the White House..and before people start talking about her dad and all that it might be worth remembering that Ronald Reagan’s son and namesake is a liberal. Dwight D. Eisenhower’s granddaughter voted for Obama. William Buckley’s son also voted for Obama. Believe it or not, political orientation is not like eye color or a cleft chin, it is not genetic.

She just found out about the party six months ago. And now she thinks she’s leading the parade?
Puh-leeze….
Funny thing is, she doesn’t seem to understand most Republicans didn’t much like the old man. What makes her think she’s going to get any traction by doing exactly the same thing he did, except with breasts?
12thMonkey on April 18, 2009 at 9:54 PM
Not true. This is from last year but still..
Looking at the crucial group of independent voters, some 57 percent of them want it to either become more conservative (35%) or stay the same (22%) while only 35 percent want it to become less conservative.

We win back congress by running on a message of economic discipline and responsibility, as well as a strong projection of American strength in foreign policy (because Prince O’ will screw things up in that area).

Dude, I’m so convince that her worldview is the correct one. I mean with all the “outside-the-box” elements to her own life how could I not be persuaded. She said she was in favor of strong national defense, and I thought, “uh oh. Just another boring republican.” But then she said she likes to wear black, and then I thought, “Wow! Now here’s a girl with a fresh perspective!” And the tattoo! Screw my presuppositions; to heck with my outdated, suffocating, suburban, inhibitions, I’m now all in because Ms. McCain has gay friends. Now, I’m off to go listen to Green Day. I want to deconstruct myself right away!

IDK. I WOULD SAY IT WAS MORE OF MCCAINS POOR CAMPAIGN ADVISORS, AND A WILLY NILLY CONSERVATIVE BASE THAT LET OBAMA GET ELECTED.

But she’s still not very bright.
therightwinger on April 18, 2009 at 9:56 PM
that about sums up the Self Professed Conservative (SPC) view of the world. “Don’t care if we never win another election or not – just will be content in telling everyone I meet that they are not as conservative as I am because you know …. only I can decipher the conservative oracle displayed on Rush’s ring…and if you think for one minute that any disagreement on the right approach is acceptable just move your happy #$* over to the othe party”

I disagree, I think she is really just a chip off the old block…just younger and less guarded in her willingness to speak her mind. I have a lot of respect for her dad’s service to this country but I disagree with him almost as much as with his daughter. You do remember John’s younger days?
d1carter on April 18, 2009 at 9:59 PM
Face it. The GOP needs an overhaul. It’s happening right now, actually…With Steele, Cantor, Ryan, Jindal, etc…stepping forward to lead the party into the future.
therightwinger on April 18, 2009 at 9:59 PM
You are so far off the mark it is laughable. By your logic the criticism of the Tea Party movement is perfectly acceptable because after all free speech and the right to one’s opinion only applies if you are an SPC. Go Rachel Madow…
Seriously, Fonda hamming it up with the NVA versus McCain voicing an opinion is not even close to the same league. Considering her father is a former POW himself your insult is particularly over the top…

Some pretty vile comments here. wow.
scalleywag on April 18, 2009 at 10:01 PM
That’s the whole point of Ms. McCain’s premise. Admittedly not in reference to “Conservatism”, but certainly in terms of “doing” politics the “right” way, the “only” way, the “successful” way, the “decent” way, the “relevant” way. It’s just as off-putting as your “SPC” fellow, only from the opposite direction. The apostle of “moderate-ism” isn’t preferable to the SPC.
Weight of Glory on April 18, 2009 at 10:02 PM
That’s her problem. She’s met too many of ‘em. Conservatives, not so much.
Fletch54 on April 18, 2009 at 10:02 PM

CaptFlood on April 18, 2009 at 10:05 PM
You miss the point – by choosing to shun the very people you would want to join the party you condemn it to minority status. So what if her opinion seems naive — does that surprise you that a 20 something may be more idealistic than you? Give them the courtesy to express their own opinions and time to gain a little life experience to see how the more conservative themes have merit.
Bradky on April 18, 2009 at 10:05 PM
What do you find compelling about her statement? She makes generalizations about the clothing, musical tastes, and friendships of Republicans. Honestly, I don’t think this gal has ever met any rank and file Republicans. She seems to have formed her impression of us based on the fat cats she met at daddy’s mixers and fundraisers.
From past Hot Air threads, I know our group of posters is populated by a lot of folks who came of age in the 80’s so I’m guessing I’m not the only one who’s seen the Ramones, Talking Heads, and Clash in concert.
Yeah, Meghan, I wore tons of black TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO, you little twit. And, while unlike you I don’t keep my friends’ gender preferences in a scrapbook to prove how “with it” I am, some of my friends are gay. Geez Louise.
Give me a break. It’s like she’s going through a delayed teenage rebellion phase against her upper crust family. Political thought has nothing to do with it.
Y-not on April 18, 2009 at 10:05 PM

The problem I have with Meghan is that she’s reinforcing the Lefts basic false memes about Republicans.
“I am concerned about the environment” . Yeah us neanderthals who don’t buy into global warming run around polluting all day instead.
“I have lots of gay friends.” I guess you’re not gonna make our next smear the queer family fun day?

She’s exactly right … as a modern day Republican.
And that’s why I’m no longer a Republican.
I’ll take a Zell Miller Democrat over a modern day Republican anytime … if there are any left.
BowHuntingTexas on April 18, 2009 at 10:09 PM
Absolutely. If people would stop and consider that the large number of 20 somethings who voted for Obama will likely be struggling with family and work issues in 2012 and may be possible GOP switchovers… But if unforgiveness is the theme as a party we are sunk
