The speech was extremely well constructed to connect to the crowd and their purpose. If this young man wrote that speech, I think he has brilliant potential in politics. He would be the communicator that Jindal is not

About the only males you’ll find wearing bow-ties (and a tux or dinner jacket doesn’t count, there it’s part of the costume) are individualistic alphas.

Now that I don’t have to wear a tie unless I want to, I’ve discovered (again) that I love wearing a bow tie. I neither need nor want a $200 bib.

Why would that be a rule? Beta males are losers. Call ‘em on it!

I don’t know what homeschool circles you run in, but the ones in which I’m involved don’t have this “fetish.” And if they do, so what?

This kid is 16. Don’t you think he could make his own decision to wear a coat and bowtie? He’s the one who has to stand up there and wear it. Obviously he’s comfortable in his attire.

As long as he doesn’t turn out like George Will wagging his finger at those of us who wear denim, it is creative expression in dress. It isn’t my first choice, but I’m fine with it.

Texas homeschool circles. It’s at every homeschool conference, and particularly apparent at a rally in favor of parent’s rights at the Capitol here in Austin two weeks ago, though it was wholly appropriate there as they were going to congressional offices.

My point is I don’t think the kid did make the decision and/or I sense pressure from the homeschool culture to dress boys/young men this way, even in situations where they are a bit more than overdressed.

The President will free the Cuban people without one shot fired.

A big wart on the nose, if left alone, would show “individuality” and certainly set someone apart. But it’s gotta be removed. Much like a bow tie.

It took some ribbing by Jon Stewart to do, but even Tucker Carlson lost the bow tie…which he considered his “individuality” too.

All bow ties should be burned, and the ashes buried. They just look stupid.

As a homeschool dad, I’ve gotta say I dont’ quite understand the fetish in homeschool circles with putting boys in jackets and ties.

It’s a high bar when you’re putting a young kid like that up on the platform–and I’m tired already of the precoutious performace bit. They had an 18 y.o. at the San Antonio party who, while doing a great job, was also straining too hard for a magnum opus. Sure we all cut them slack because of their age, and yeah it’s impressive in a sense, but what really is the point of pushing them out front so fast?

I really do appreciate the civics/political involvement side of the homeschool movement, but there is a sense of grandstanding in the way the kids are put out there. The spotlight moments will be more compelling to the audience at large if they’re not so obviously forced, imho.
