Video: Crowder and Zo on Obama’s bow to the Saudis
posted at 8:50 pm on April 16, 2009 by Allahpundit
Two takes, one serious and one less so, from two gifted conservative minds. You know Crowder’s been itching to find an excuse to put on that suit for ages now.

Blowback

Dude if Fox News wants to continue stomp MSNBC and CNN they would have these two guys sign contracts.

Someone needs to do a Hip Hop “Tom’s Diner” tune take with Zo’s righteous lines here.
A little music would help the collegiate types get it.
He’s moving too fast for them without a beat to drive their attention across the span.
Kudos bro!

SERIOUS QUESTIONS:
What kind of format would a TV show with Crowder and ‘Zo have?
What daypart on FOX News Channel would you program that show?
I like both of them, but the fact is that both of them have delivery and material that is tough to fit into the existing narrow network TV boxes without screwing up their styles (and destroying their fan bases). These guys are best suited for YouTube success.
ScottMcC on April 16, 2009 at 9:15 PM
Among the things I’d really like to see in my lifetime, Zo speaking in Congress is really going up on the list. Sharper than a razor blade.
Hmmmm…raZOr. I have dibs!
Crowder also knocks another out of the park.

canditaylor68 on April 16, 2009 at 9:20 PM
Actually I don’t know about Steven Crowder because he’s a comedian and the only comedic show Fox News has is “Red Eye” and they put that show way TOO late so. So for Crowder I would say a “Daily Show” type of program that is only half in hour (young audiences don’t have long attention spans) but on another channel. Zo is more commentary than comedic so it is easier to imagine to doing a opinion show.
terryannonline on April 16, 2009 at 9:21 PM
Now we just need some hot conservative women to start doing these kind videos…MKH doesn’t do them much any more.

Allahpundit on April 16, 2009 at 9:27 PM
Zo’s better, but they’ve both got the flair for oversimplification that’s necessary to get most people to understand a given issue. Zo’s a funny cat though I can’t lie. Just wish he’d see that republicans betray his views just as easily as dems, they just hide it better.
ernesto on April 16, 2009 at 9:32 PM
That was Reut Cohen at the end of Zo’s video. Her show on PJTV, “Sharia & Jihad Review,” is a good one, worth watching.
Assuming, of course, she got away from Zo….

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 16, 2009 at 10:33 PM
Whaaaaa? You mean Crowder wasn’t impersonating Glenn Beck? I thought “Pee Wee Herman” was Beck’s childhood nickname. Silly me!
terryannonline on April 16, 2009 at 10:37 PM
I just showed both to my 14 year old, aspiring filmmaker, “saved” conservative, stepson.
He’ll be knocking your socks off in a few years. Maybe even sooner.
I told him that he could do something important for conservatism. No matter how eloquent we may be, we can’t speak extra-generational language with the fluency of a native speaker. Crowder’s PeeWee reference, itself, has an age limited audience. My stepson has seen PeeWee, but I’m sure he missed bits here and there, like the Word of the Day, or the Tequila dance, that hit me just right. He may have seen or heard about those things before, but wouldn’t react to them the way someone just a few years older would.
I’m passing the torch, and I’m strangely thrilled. Not ready for a rocking chair yet, but feeling much better about the prospect.

terryannonline on April 16, 2009 at 11:16 PM
Considering the relative positions of one of their mouths and proximity to the other one’s genitals, I’d have to say that you have it precisely backwards.
Midas on April 16, 2009 at 11:27 PM
Agreed, but you just described “The 1/2 Hour Comedy Hour” which was not considered a success.
The real problem with a show starring Crowder as host on FOX News Channel is that the FNC viewer demographic (you and I excluded) is in that 50+ range. Don’t believe me? Look at the 20 minutes worth of ads for hearing aids, eee-dee tablets, and retirement communities you must sit through for every hour of FNC viewing.
The 50+ crowd isn’t Crowder’s demo. It’s going to be tough trying to sell advertising during a Crowder show on FNC because you’re going to have a hotshot comedian in his early-20s playing to an audience that was born in the 1920s.
Agreed. Zo could potentially jump from his existing format directly into FNC’s weekend lineup. However, I’d rather see both Zo and Crowder do guest shots on established FNC programs. This allows Crowder and Zo to gain experience, promote their respective Internet shows (and Crowder’s stand-up), and when the burgeoning IPTV technology makes Internet TV shows available on our plasma screen TVs, they will be better positioned to name their prices.
What would be better is for HBO or another premium cable entertainment channel to pick up Crowder and build a show around him. He could easily do movies or sitcoms.

FloatingRock on April 16, 2009 at 11:56 PM
HBO is too left-wing. If HBO (and frankly all televisions channels that have comedy programs) were smart would at least diversify their talent to include some more right-leaning talent. But they are not smart so instead they let Will Farrell’s unfunny Bush-bashing show take precious air time.
terryannonline on April 16, 2009 at 11:58 PM
…And I’ve seen the movie about thirty times.
The best part is when he’s riding off on the motorcycle and clips the sign.
FloatingRock on April 16, 2009 at 11:59 PM
The number one problem with “The 1/2 Hour News Show” was it wasn’t funny. Crowder is funny. So that’s a major difference. Plus, they specifically promoted “The 1/2 Hour News Show” as a “conservative” comedy show. Unfortunately, people don’t view conservatives as funny so people are going to avoid it. I think if a conservative is going to get a comedy show they shouldn’t label themselves as “conservative” they should just be funny. Comedy first and then comes the politics. I actually used to think Jon Stewart was hilarious but I think at some point he started to worry less about being funny and more on being political commentator so he become really unfunny.
terryannonline on April 17, 2009 at 12:08 AM
Or…
Maybe we’re starting to rub off on ya’ and you’re a bit more conservative than you used to be. :)

CCRWM on April 17, 2009 at 12:46 AM
did crowder just shoot the president? dude…
Darth Executor on April 17, 2009 at 12:48 AM
I saw Crower on Red Eye last night, still funny.
Is this a good one-two combination or what???
HarryStar on April 17, 2009 at 1:12 AM
The reason I highlighted that bit to point out that HBO is smart enough to know how to make money off the unfunny content. Will Farrell is a box office draw for a key demographic, he has legions of fans that support anything he does, and therefore HBO knows they run a Will Farrell program, then they have a built-in paying audience for their channel.
HBO is bottom line focused more than ideological. If we show HBO’s directors of content acquisition some of Steven Crowder’s videos on YouTube they’ll likely be turned off by his Conservative politics but they’ll be more turned off by the fact that he’s averaging 20-30K views per video… their bias is secondary to their revenue goals.
Now, if Crowder is selling out comedy clubs in every town he performs in and is pulling 200K views every week on YouTube, then HBO would seriously consider “CrowderVision” on Sunday night because they know the guy is going to bring in an audience–which means more money for HBO.
Correct on both accounts.
I think you’re partly correct here, but truly believe that FOX News Channel assumed that THHNH would help bring in the “Daily Show” demographic: college-age morons that are so insecure with themselves they will laugh at anything just because it fits an acceptable ideology shared by their peers.
FNC forgot that political conservatives routinely eat their own and can be very unforgiving of anything that doesn’t meet their high standards. Obviously THHNH was not up to those standards.
Let’s say that THHNH was resurrected at FNC with Crowder at the helm; it would be a disaster. Scripted “fake news” is difficult to do… which is why TDS and TCR on Comedy Central have literally hundreds of writers, producers, and interns working on those two 22-minute long shows for 12 hours a day.
Crowder hangs a blue sheet up on his bedroom wall, sets a video camera on a tripod, and talks into it for two minutes!
Granted, the final result from Crowder is very funny but let’s not pretend it’s on the same level as what’s cranked out five days a week by dozens of twentysomething lefty hipsters that wrote for Harvard Lampoon.
Right now the best way to get Crowder his own show is to promote him to everyone you know and get his YouTube view count up.
ScottMcC on April 17, 2009 at 1:48 AM
The shooting was a little much… but other than that it was great.

If FOX News Channel placed Crowder and Zo in their programming lineup, how would that help our cause? Be honest: Do college age viewers talk about what they saw last night on FNC every afternoon in the commons or are they talking about something they saw on another channel?
We all complain about how the left is so subversive and they control pop culture… so wouldn’t it be more effective to have “CrowderVision” or “ZoNation” on an entertainment channel like FX, TBS, or Spike TV?

Truth is, MSM news IS entertainment…They are so delusional and twist the facts to meet their narrative I believe it’s time to really get in their faces…
Promoted on other Fox channels to be put in the same time slot as
SNL…Would you watch it?
jerrytbg on April 17, 2009 at 1:20 PM
Man those guys are funny.
spmat on April 17, 2009 at 1:49 PM
The strong argument in your favor is the debacle with the CNN Hack and “teabagging” jokes on MSNBC. Unfortunately, I can trump that argument with The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Both of those programs are billed and run as “comedy” shows on entertainment networks. The unfortunate problem (and looping back to the “liberals are subversive” point made previously) with those shows is that those shows are where the 18 to 34 year-old demographic gets their news.
Seriously, if the 18 to 34 year-old male was watching CNN, MSNBC, or FNC, then there’d be a heckuva lot more ads on those networks for Mountain Dew, Burger King, and Netflix rather than the wall-to-wall ads for retirement communities and “hover chairs.”
If it was on FX, billed as pure entertainment, and shot in HD? 100% Yes.
If it was on FNC where it would be handled as poorly as THHNH? Absolutely not.
ScottMcC on April 17, 2009 at 2:55 PM
Good arguments ….but…if it was presented in a revolutionary way…something outside the box…I don’t know how…maybe along the lines of ThatWasTheWeekThatWas…TW3, remember that one?
I’m not a programmer or writer of anything beyond poetry and short stories…but I know there’s something about the concept that would stick it to em’…it’s time. Who knows…I’ll let it brew a little longer.
