[...] The Left had the impression that there were only 25,000 protestors, rather than the lowball count of 10 times that. (The statistician’s attempt to marginalize the numbers should speak well enough to his lack of bias in counting.) So let’s face it, the media isn’t really upset that Fox News was there in force to cover a big story. They are upset that they weren’t. Ratings don’t lie. [...]

It's great that Fox is taking cable ratings but the ABC/CBS/NBC leftist news still pulls in 20 million nightly I believe.

Like the lefty newspapers and magazines though, I suspect the alphabet news to die, die, die.

Lies just don't sell.

I'm converting friends and family by the boatload to more honest news venues.

If nothing else, tell people to "try out HotAir.com and tell me what you think." This is what I do.

Let's roll.

The hilarious part is how profoundly tone deaf to culture conservatives are.

And that you think FOX is news, when the highest rated show is a weepy televangelist in clown shoes posing as a newscaster.
How is Beck not comedy?
LOL! Ratings explained, AllahP.
;)

strangelet on April 16, 2009 at 7:10 PM

Beck does not consider himself a journalist; he is a commentator, as he emphasized on his show not more than a week ago. The left insists on casting Beck, Levin, Rush, et.al., as newscasters when they clearly represent themselves as pundits. Ironically, the left insists on casting those who are clearly entertainers, Stewart and Colbert, as newscasters. How many have repeated the SNL canard about Sarah Palin being able to see Russia from her house? What else can you expect from people who think Sean Penn and Danny Glover are experts on foreign policy?

Fox leans slightly conservative. It isn't a "Republican" channel.

Conservative overlaps with Republican more than it overlaps with Democrat, but they are not interchangeable terms.

I find it amusing that middle class Americans align themselves with limo liberals. These same people, the L.L.'s act as if they and their viewers are the cool kids, and those tea party (middle class) people are the nerds....the hilarious part for me is that the L.L's wouldn't be caught dead in a restaurant, room, or hemisphere with their middle class viewers. When the rubber hits the road the L.L's will all be huddled together surrounded by their connections and money and the middle class viewers will be on their own.....outside the gates, peering in and wondering why they are no longer cool.

Afterall, most of the rest of the country get our news from Steven Colbert, John Stewart, SNL and NPR. ;)

Astonishing that one would even admit that.

How about getting news from the SciFi channel and Cartoon Network?

Might as well.

CNN & MSNBC have lost all credibility & the sad thing is they don't even care.

When people watch the news they want to be able to trust that what is being reported is the truth. Who wants to listen to a bunch of misinformation & lies.

How could anyone except an Obama loving demo say that McCain was a good candidate? He took every opportunity to NOT go after BO because he wanted to stay on the "High Road". The debates were an eyeopener for me and on all but the last I had to get up and leave the room because of the extremely poor job McCain did. Palin went after Slow Joe and trounced him like Mc could have done to BO if he had used BO's lack of experience by questioning him on issues. Instead he went on crazy rants about uninteresting issues that made BO look smart. I agree about the mood of the country and about the BM (Biased media, not MSM) being big assets for BO but I can tell you I felt like a child molester after I pulled the lever for McCain. I hated the man and what he stood for, still do, but I realized that BO was death for our beloved country and no amount of "Everyone" loves him could have made vote for BO. If the Congress was divided BO might last two terms but with the crazies in control he won't make it.

No, but you said it wasn’t record turnout, and it was.
By that standard, just about every election is a new record. I mean percentage of eligible voters casting ballots.

Well, in retrospect, because he lost, I think it seems like McCain was a bad candidate. And he made some big mistakes. Then again, by the time he was making those mistakes, the thing was pretty much over. I don’t think they were mistakes as much as they were hail mary passes.

I don’t think anyone could have beaten Obama this time around.

Anyway, I’ll leave it at that. Thanks for being civil.

McCain lost in part because of his flaccid campaign style, but mostly because Lehman Brothers went under. Plus also the general feeling of discontent with the incumbent party in the WH. Remember, Lehman Brothers declared bankruptcy Obama and his wonderful campaign were trailing in the polls.

Um, the number of people in the country increases from one election to the next. Nothing to go ga-ga over.

No, but you said it wasn't record turnout, and it was.

McCain was a bad candidate. Obama didn’t have to run a “hell of a campaign”. He had various media outlets doing all the work for him.

[...] We’ve seen the MSM try to marginalize the Tea Parties every way they know how - by mocking organizers as “teabaggers,” falesly claiming the rallies are “AstroTurf” (i.e., organized by corporations but made to look like a grassroots movement), grossly underestimating the turnouts, and finally, claiming all attendees are hateful racists. These attacks only came after the MSM did their best to ignore the rumblings that led up to yesterday’s gatherings. Indeed, FOX was the only news network to give the Tea Parties significant coverage, and it paid off for them in spades in the ratings. [...]

And obviously it almost goes without saying that it was the highest turnout in American history in terms of sheer numbers...

Um, the number of people in the country increases from one election to the next. Nothing to go ga-ga over.

And look, I think McCain was a good candidate. Fred Thompson would have been annihilated. McCain got the Republicans, plus his name was virtually synonymous with bipartisanship and integrity - things independents tend to love.

Obama was an exceptional candidate. That’s not a value judgment on him as a leader or as a person, but he ran a hell of a campaign.

Obama was an exceptional candidate in two ways: he's probably the most leftward-leaning since Henry Wallace, and he's black.

Dude he’s been president for only 3 months… what do you expect?

And his numbers are below Bush's for the same period -- that's gotta hurt.

Bush was unpopular. The general feeling was that the country was headed in the wrong direction. The media was sycophantic in it’s Obamania. Obama should’ve won a Reagan-like landslide. The truth is, he didn’t.

Reagan won by 10 pts in 1980 - 51-41, if I remember correctly.

Obama won 53-46.

It wasn't as much of a blowout, but McCain was a more compelling candidate than Jimmy Carter. And I would argue that the country is much more ideologically divided today than it was in 1980, in the sense that there is larger portion of the population that simply would never vote for a Republican/Democrat under any circumstances.
