Quotes of the day

“I don’t know about 2012. I think she is a standard bearer right now. She and Mitt Romney and Governor Pawlenty, Governor Sanford, Rudy Giuliani, Eric Cantor, Mike Pence. We have a significant number of men and women in our party who are in a very good position right now to carry forward the standard of the GOP.”

“Palin’s campaign antics can be forgiven. What can’t be forgiven is the ham-handed way she’s tried to build her national profile since she returned to Alaska. She’s abandoned the bold right-left populism that won over Alaska voters—and me—in the first place in favor of an increasingly defensive and harsh partisanship. After making her name as a determined enemy of Alaska’s corrupt Republican establishment, she recently called for Democratic Sen. Mark Begich to step down so the hilariously crooked Ted Stevens could get another crack at the seat. She loudly promised to leave federal stimulus money on the table before clawing that promise back with a whimper. One can’t help but get the impression that Palin is a clownish, vindictive amateur…
What I’m wondering is: Has Sarah Palin undergone some kind of secret lobotomy?”

Helloooooo! I’m a heterosexual female, thanks for asking.
Palin, like Ronaldus Magnus, has the Right Stuff!
We don’t have to pretend anything.
(BTW, both Rush and Glenn Beck *love* Sarah, too!)

How old are you kid? You sound about 13 years old.
Shouldnt you be studying your home work? How are you ever going to work your way out of the trailer park??

I didn’t say he ran around and said “Thank you, guys.” I said he connected with the American people in a way that didn’t make your eyes glaze over. He used humor and a regular guy approach. His “high flying rhetoric” was usually reserved for foreign policy speeches. He kept it real.
I don’t really disagree with you about the things you pointed out. She can use taking her dignity up just a notch. But not so far that she loses the ability to connect with real Americans.
Hawthorne on April 17, 2009 at 2:24 AM
I think I have a slightly better idea who RR would like than you do, sourpuss!
President Reagan would happily place the mantle of Republican & American leadership on Sarah’s shoulders.
She is his direct heir, the true “daughter” sweet Maureen could never be.

Religious bigot? Moi?
I am a confirmed atheist, though my family background is Hindu, not Christian. I could care less about how many wives Mormons have. I am bashing up on them because the real bigots are bashing up on a person from a humble background. Tit for tat.
Reagan loves smart people. You betcha. And he would have simply loved our Sarah.
The only cartoon character is you, a sleep-deprived sexist hack.

So what if Rush and Beck like her? Why do you like about her? Please don’t say she is real because that is beyond cliche. Again Jenfidel, what do you like about her?

Ever read the Book of Mormon? I have and it’s filled with pretty wild stuff.
And Mormonism isn’t really a Christian religion–it’s only loosely based on God and Jesus as space beings sent to Earth.

When it comes to Palin I feel we are making the same mistake we always make when we pine for fair coverage in the media. I did’t think after McCain we would let them define our candidate again. We always ask, “Why don’t the elected (R)’s learn their lesson?” If we let the media scare us away from our candidate again, then we have not learned our’s.
Also if you don’t think the dems in Alaska are not trying to get national attention by being the one to derail Palin clearly do not understand dems. Before she was on the national stage it was political death in alaska to fight her head on. Not because she dictated, but because she was delivering on her campaign promises for which she won the election. I would not be suprised if any one of the DPM (dem propagand machine) were not pouring tons of money into state politics in an effort to embarass Palin.
I also notice Allah is a Romney fan, and I don’t blame him but he seems to also want to ruin Palin’s influence, and i am quite tired of the canablism with in our party. I also completely disagree with Romney saying Obama made the right choice by calling for the GM CEO to resign. That in my opion is one of the biggest betrayals of conservative principals i can think of. To have government dictate who should head any private company should scare anyone to the core.
That being said, I would vote for either one of them in a heart beat. I do not expect perfection every time they speak. I understand that they are human and not “The One.”
lwssdd on April 17, 2009 at 2:32 AM
Did you people even see the tape of this event? She spoke to about a hundred single-issue voters in the midwest — it looked like a monthly Rotary meeting.
Meanwhile, the lead story on the local news in her home state was, “Why is sarah in Indiana when her nominations for AG, state rep, and Board of Fisheries were all rejected by the (overwhelmingly republican) Alaska legislature this week?”

You won’t like my answer, but I like darn near EVERYTHING about her–her stance on pro-Life, guns, national defense, domestic drilling, pride in America and Americans, fiscal responsibility & stewardship by those in government, anti-corruption, her honesty, her “servant’s heart,” her faith in God and her love for her family, her country and everyone she meets.
I love it that she’s pretty, smart, articulate and competent all at once while being a wife and a mother.
Can’t explain all of it, but when I hear her speak, she makes me feel warm and happy inside…just like President Reagan did.
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 2:33 AM
I had some real problems with Bush on immigration and the stimulus package. I was not entirely pleased with the Patriot Act in its original form either. I also felt that he could have been more proactive in clarifying the use of military courts for the prisoners at Guantanamo. Bush also got a lot of things wrong in Iraq, and left Afghanistan too early before the job was done. Bush was not perfect.

I live in socal..where many mormons live. We have a mormon family on the street I live. here is a newflash…mormons only have one wife…you sound as stupid as sarah Palin.
No, I am not a mormon. However, I am somewhat educated. And, no, the mormon religion is not loosely based on God and jesus as space beings sent to earth. You sound extremely ignorant.
You want to know what is really wild? These religious kooks, the evangelicals, who take the bible literally and believe that God destroyed the human race about 4000 years ago except for the Noah family and all the animals were saved because Noah put 2 of each of the multi-millions of animal species on a boat to save them.
I doubt anything in the book of mormon is as stupid as that.

I am sick of it. but, I am going to enjoy the hell out of watching you psychos react to the continuous stupid eruptions that will occur between now and 2012. I think she will run and will last until the first debate.
And before you change the subject, I dont think romney will run. He knows he cant win and his wife is ill.

Research it and see if I’m wrong.
I not only have read a good deal of the Book of Mormon (to be found in the bedside table of any Marriot hotel room because Fred Marriot’s a Mormon…) but I’ve been to their “centers” in both Hawaii and Salt Lake City.
If you think that we who believe the Bible is literally true are weird, that’s nothing compared to what the Mormons believe.
We have archeology on our side and they don’t.

Fixation on the religion of a candidate is entirely wrong headed. Are you telling me that you would no support a candidate that was everything you every wanted except they are the wrong religion? If that is what you make your decision on then we deserve all the garbage we get in office.
Hawthorne on April 17, 2009 at 2:41 AM
You said your religious background is Hindu..may we also assume you’re of Indian descent?
That being said, how do you feel about Bobby Jindal?
Would he make a good running mate for Sarah?
(I really, really like him, almost as much as Palin. He, also, embraces rock solid Conservative values.)
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 2:44 AM
Who is Fred Marriott, genius. Is he by chance related to Bill Marriott?? Perhaps you can quote the part in the Book of Mormon that talks about God and Jesus coming to earth from another planet. Give me the chapter and verse and I will google to see if you have a clue….which I already know you dont.
So, you have archealogy on your side, eh? You dont have anything on your side except a low iq group of evangelicals who claim science is on their side.
So tell me, dear, do you believe, as most evangelicals do, that the earth is 6000 years old? do you believe in the noah’s ark story? do you believe in the jonah and the whale story? do you believe in the old testament story abou the dude who whipped his donkey for stumbling and the donkey turned around and said “why are you whipping me” If you do believe those things….I wouldnt spend a whole lot of time making fun of others religions as yours in certifiably nuts.
The Wall on April 17, 2009 at 2:44 AM
So what. I know a lot of people that are a certain religion because that is what they were raised in. It doesn’t mean they follow every passage and tenet of the book.
So, have you stoned any witches lately?
Do you believe that no Christian has ever had an abortion?
Please, thinking like that is overly simplistic.
Hawthorne on April 17, 2009 at 2:45 AM
I would support anyone except a Muslim or an atheist that was a real Conservative.
When it comes to stranger sects like Mormons/CJCLDS or Jehovah’s Witness, my mileage would vary.
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 2:46 AM
See, this is why I love you.
I had many problems with Bush. For one, he was not conservative enough to my tastes. The compassionate conservatism was a bust. Conservatives are compassionate by nature (see percentages of giving to charities, liberals vs. conservatives) so the idea that a conservative should adopt the liberal definition of compassion did not set well with me. He failed on border enforcement and government baliouts. Compare him with the former presidents back to Ronald Reagan to the present Commander in Chief and he is well above a good president; he is great. History will prove it.
carbon_footprint on April 17, 2009 at 2:47 AM
Jenfidel believes the Bible literally. And I say, good for her.
But the nerve of somebody taking the bible, particularly the old testament literally, has no place to ridicule other religions. Earth, or mankind is 6000 years old? Are you nuts. Its a fact that man has been on the earth 6000 years times 1000. ha ha ha. dumb broad
The Wall on April 17, 2009 at 2:48 AM

Just because one has the IQ of a genius doesn’t mean they have an encyclopedic knowledge of every subject.
And we all can Google and use Wikipedia.
Besides, do you think Cro-Magnon man was human enough to be the Biblical Adam? Doubtful.
BTW, scientists have never found Darwin’s posited “missing link” and they’ve looked long and hard, too.
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 2:57 AM
I apologize if you took that other than I intended. I am simply saying that there are good people of every religion. It is not a determining factor. I feel that using religion as a primary means of determining the worth of a person is not a valid measure. You can disagree if you choose. That is certainly your prerogative.
For example, I live very near Dearborn, Michigan which has he largest Arabic population in the world outside the Middle East. I know quite a few Muslims. Some of them I would count as friends. I would trust many of them much more than I would trust Mike Huckabee who is a putative Christian and reputed to be a minister. Yet he sees fit to also back stab people for his own gain.
I look at the person, not the labels. Too many people vote for somebody because of labels like Democrat or Republican and that has hurt our country badly.
Hawthorne on April 17, 2009 at 2:58 AM
I may have the Fred part wrong, but his surname is Marriott. Ask around.
They’ve found what they think are pieces of Noah’s Ark on Mt. Ararat.
You knew that, right?
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 2:58 AM
But it IS important! It stops many people from having to worry about what’s really going on in the world. It is a very useful distraction – just ask Barry.
OldEnglish on April 17, 2009 at 2:59 AM
You do not understand much about the Bible do you. How do you determine this 6000 year history? Do you understand the concept of the earth ages in the bible? How long do you feel the Bible says it took to create the universe?
Answer those questions and I will see how much you know.
Hawthorne on April 17, 2009 at 3:01 AM

The Wall on April 17, 2009 at 3:01 AM
I see.
Huckabee is a nice man, but he’s a RINO at best with severe Liberal tendencies and he didn’t exactly govern AR very well.
As for Muslims, I know most of them are peaceable, but there is no escaping the fact that jihad is one of the pillars of their faith and they are ordered to do it by the Koran.
It is an evil religion that was Mohammed’s version of mixing together the Jewish and Christian faiths with Arabic blood lust.

Jihad is not seen by most Muslims as an external battle. In mainstream Muslim teachings it is the internal struggle against the denial of God. It is a battle fought within. Only the extremist madrassas teach otherwise.

So far, there’s nothing that has made him stand out to me. He’s a good governor but I don’t think he can take on Obama. Looks like he can’t give a good speech either.
Will he make a good VP? Yep. But I guess Sarah might need to take in a older, more mature candidate to balance the ticket.
Let Jindal have his two terms and we’ll see what he can do. He is of Indian descent but that’s of zero importance to me. I am not an ethnic chauvinist.
Right now, I think Sarah is our best bet but once past the primary I’ll support any republican candidate who emerges, even Charlie Crist. We have to take down Obama in 2012, that’s the number one and the only priority.
promachus on April 17, 2009 at 3:07 AM
I think I explained to you that my Romney bashing is purely a tit for tat for Romneybots like Pooptech and the Wall bashing Palin. You don’t approve of it but that’s fine but don’t misrepresent me. I think I just posted before you did that I could care less about Mormonism or any other cults. I was sneering at Romney’s background because the Romneybots were saying pretty disgusting things about Palin’s background.
promachus on April 17, 2009 at 3:12 AM
J
Not really.
The idea that “jihad means internal struggle” is a lie (taqqiya) that Muslims tell infidels so they won’t know they are about to be either put to death or converted to Islam at the point of a sword.
Jihad–taking the entire world “back” for Islam–is their religious duty.
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 3:12 AM

You are an idiot. How could somebody in 2009 not know that mormons dont have multiple wives…unless you dont read the paper like Sarah Palin.
I am aware that some people are dumb enough to believe that 4500 years ago that the entire human race was destroyed except for one family and out of that one family the entire human race, as it exists now, came out of that family that jumped on the boat with the polar bears and the tigers and the cobras and the other million plus species.
Hey, how did Noah get the Polar bears anyway…did he take a trip to Alaska?
Hey, how did he get them penguins? Did Noah fly over to the South Pole and grabbed a couple?
I mean….ARE YOU NUTS??? HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
The point, ms. Mensa member, is that I dont care what you believe. But for you to ridicule Romney’s religion when you believe utter stupidity like the story of Noah’s ark…you are throwing stones from your glass house.

Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 3:47 AM
You really ought to just ignore The Wall as I suggested to promachus. People like him just get off on irritating people and taking the argument to the limit, even when it does more damage than good. The guiy claims to be a Romney supporter, but he and Poptech have done more damage to Romney on these pages than any political enemy has.

Reagan was an actor and broadcaster for decades. He made his living using his voice, so its not wonder he was so much better at it compared to present-day Republicans. I don’t think we are going to see another Reagan for a long time. We can’t count on getting lucky and having the Dims nominate blowhards like Gore and Kerry every time.
I didn’t find the speech particularly inspiring. She spent half of it talking about how big and empty Alaska is.
Speedwagon82 on April 17, 2009 at 3:54 AM
Palins looks exquisite, and her ideas are inspired.
President Sarah Palin sounds so good right now…..

If you are so bright yourself, then why don’t you realize that insulting people and throwing bombs is not going to win anybody over. Was that how your Mensa group taught you to win friends and influence people?
You are not here to help Romney. If you were you wouldn’t make everybody so angry in your ill-advised efforts to support him. You have done nothing but hurt Romney with your posts. If you are a liar about supporting Romney or you are too ham-fisted to understand anything about how to do it effectively.

promachus on April 17, 2009 at 4:00 AM
Sarah Palin is like Reagan, yet unlike Reagan because she’s herself.
She is a natural in front of TV cameras–even you can’t deny that.
Even though she’s speaking to a large crowd, I felt as if she was speaking to me alone, as if we were sharing a cup of coffee at the kitchen table.
(I was also very impressed with Michael Steele’s demeanor.)
You’ll never see Sarah lose her feet without a teleprompter or never look directly at you because she’s turning her head from side to side to read the speech on TOTUS.
As for Democrat blowhards, they don’t come any bigger or more grandiose than Obama and that’s saying alot when he can top Kerry and Gore in that department!
It does indeed!
Jenfidel on April 17, 2009 at 4:03 AM
Personally, I think that Poptech and The Wall are provocateurs. They cannot possibly be Romney supporters and think they are doing him any good. I think they are Huck supporters (or maybe even Democrats) sowing discord between the opposition factions. No real supporter can be that dense about how they alienate people.

I was in the front row of the auditorium earlier tonight.
Her speech was dynamite, got to shake her hand (right one this time), and she and Michael signed my Navarre Bible.
Her speech was dynamite.
I’ll say it again for the zillionth time.
Sarah is the GOP frontrunner because of her COURAGE, CONVICTIONS, and CHARISMA.
She just may scoop up Romney and the two give Obama a tough fight in 2012.
So, let’s win the House back in 2010 to get the momentum goin.

Who the hell is Reihan Salam? Is he one of those Meg’s McCain new style conservatives?

I am gonna get so flamed by this, I know, but I agree. I think she’s done. It wasn’t fair what happened to her on the trail, sure, but sometimes life sucks. It feels like an unelectable thing now. First impressions MATTER.
PAWLENTY, though??!? Giuliani??!!! Uh…
Please. Please. Listen to the protesters. You better prop up some authentic fiscal AND social con or else. I swear. Wow.
Mommypundit on April 17, 2009 at 6:38 AM
Sarah Palin *is* an authentic fiscal & social con!
Romney is not.
Word, Mrs. Wow.
And she’s far more electable than Mittens ever dreamed of being!

I see you are all still thinking in pre-Obama, pre-ACORN terms. All this focus on 2012, and even 2010, is more than a little naive in my opinion. I do not think the left intends for there to be an election is 2012, and probably not in 2010 either.
While I’m at it, I also think most of the right is missing the mark in the economic collapse being driven by the left. Sure, the initiatives Obama is pushing are sure to cause more trouble instead of less, but that does not signal an error. It would only be an error if he thought they would succeed. As much as I dislike him, I do not believe him to be a fool. He knows what he is doing exactly, and is doing it for a purpose. And since what he is doing is mathematically assured to further the collapse of our economic model, I have to assume that is somehow a necessary element of his plan. I do not think that plan includes allowing you to simply vote the left back out of power in 2010, or 2012.

Jenfidel, I and others have every legitimate right to preserve and support politicians who BELIEVE IN THE US CONSTITUTION.
It takes a cold heart and narrow mind to disdain Jenfidel’s experience. That you were generous enough to share your expression is appreciated by those who also understand “love” likewise.
As per the religious sect business, HotAir has all the arguments archived. Allahpundit thrives on religious antipathy, and his juvenile delinquents (regardless of age) come from all quarters. No doubt, A-pundit’s motive is to show himself, atheist, to be above the rants that he promotes.
Regardless of how much information you provide, or how thorough your explication to fanatics, your efforts to share logic are met with venom.
Morons apply their own failures onto an opponent in order to assume themselves without sin and target any threat as cannibal fodder.
It was Jenfidel’s antagonists introducing and prolonging the stunted argument that the Old Testament is only to be understood and interpreted LITERALLY, hence rejecting reasonable or metaphorical parallels from the literal translation.
Point being, the spirit is a personal matter; and religion is a cultural experience. Those who have a loving heart, ex:Palin being the thread headline, will be tormented by those who would extinguish such love from the earth by denying its existence or relabeling it as irrelevant, trite rubbish.
Distracters repudiating historical content and record can return to their own realm without dragging everyone else down to fester with them. And before rejecting thoroughly researched and documented historical records as “wrong” due to your own mental anguish at the thought, read them all and take the time to contemplate the relevancy in your own mind, and provide others the same courtesy.

Recall the CNN “reporter” at the Tea Party railing, “who sent you?” to the lady in Andrew Marcus’ video, for showing intelligence and demanding reciprocation from CNN.
Aligning at all with the MSM against Palin only strengthens the premise that NO ONE dare have a voice unless that voice BELONGS TO AN “ACCEPTABLE” INCORPORATED GROUP to which no Christian is tolerated.
It will come back against your own security to pile against Palin.
The HotAir 2008 presidential campaigning experience proved one thing in particular: Divided We Fall.
The HotAir 2009 Allahpundit thrust remains a destructive, deconstructive force against the Constitution as consequence to his attentive efforts and mannerisms. It really has nothing to do with atheism; my best friend from home was atheist: “Why does there have to be a God in order to be good?” It has everything to do with fixated immaturity, pathologically incapable of accepting responsibility for anything.
Beginning with the selective dedication to what “cause” one bears as paramount, beware the effect of your efforts as you hone your talents.
The market for “good intentions” is gone.

What if Reagan had chosen not to run in 1980 because he had been so thoroughly lampooned by the left that even the right began having doubts?
Most politicians are slimeballs. But the good ones, the truly service-minded ones, are courageous beyond what most folks can imagine. Palin will be fine because her principles are bigger than she is.
pugwriter on April 17, 2009 at 8:28 AM
You won’t like my answer, but I like darn near EVERYTHING about her–her stance on pro-Life, guns, national defense, domestic drilling, pride in America and Americans, fiscal responsibility & stewardship by those in government, anti-corruption, her honesty, her “servant’s heart,” her faith in God and her love for her family, her country and everyone she meets.
I love it that she’s pretty, smart, articulate and competent all at once while being a wife and a mother.
Can’t explain all of it, but when I hear her speak, she makes me feel warm and happy inside…just like President Reagan did.
Jenfidel
Did Chekote get back to you on that, or was it just another of his lame drive-by attacks. Maybe he’s busy looking up “facts” on Wikipedia.

Well, you calling someone childish is tandenmount to passing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500. Look in the closest mirror you can quickly get to.
Secondly, the cut about lifestyle now? The trailer cracks like any other troll? You are no better than capitulus or monkei or whoever. Why don’t you just go to DU or HuffPo and use your troll skills on the bad guys for a while?
BTW, I detest grammar Nazis on threads, but it’s required anytime someone puts on the air of intellectual superiority as poptech and you are wont to do.

LOL at all the people clamming for the speech Palin gave and yet, criticized the same people who did the same thing for Obama.
Sarah has tired a lot of conservatives/indies out since she went on her media blitz bitching and complaining after the election. She’s certainly lost my vote and her blind supporters are starting to remind me of the same people we saw foaming at the mouth in November and January.
Notorious GOP on April 17, 2009 at 9:17 AM
No, but you seem to have. Sarah has been dealing with a bunch of snarky, immature Democrats and a couple of RHINOs since the start of the legislative season in AK. They seem to be jealous of the attention she has been getting and can’t seem to quit acting out. So far not much has been done in that legislative body this year except for the afore mentioned acting out.

I believe you owe an apology to sophomores everywhere after things like this gem of a quote, which I know wasn’t yours, but it exemplifies the level of the debate, or at least one side of it:
BTW, am I wrong, T.W., or haven’t you already been warned once for the trailer park jabs?

I was excited about Palin at first. I’m not impressed anymore. I think we need someone outstanding, and she’s not outstanding. I don’t know who is, but we’re not going to even come close to winning the next election unless we find someone extraordinary. Not that the current president is, there’s really nothing outstanding or extraordinary about him except that he gave a good speech once. But to beat the Democrats, we need someone that makes us go WOW. I don’t see that person yet.
scalleywag on April 17, 2009 at 9:50 AM
I don’t seem to recall a media blitz…I do recall that she sat down with Ziegler to talk about the media coverage, one time, for one hour. Did you have anything else in mind?
