I feel like a trendsetter now after standing by myself with a sign outside the Capitol in Sacramento on Feb 16. to protest the Porkulus.

I almost bagged the idea - but Keli's get together re-motivated me.

Totally a grassroots effort born out of the alarm and frustration of this massive bill being shoved down our throats.

That bill should be demonized like no legislation before. It needs to be toxic. Snowe, Specter and Collins need to lose their seats and this needs to cost the Dems both houses and the WH over the next few elections.

Then we should investigate whether the 0bamonkey committed a crime by posing as President while not being a naturalized citizen.
I got tons of comments of support that day (especially from remorseful 0 voters) - and the turn out on 4/15 was incredible.

I was a little disappointed there seemed to be no groundswell of protest back in Feb.

Didn't the President, with a straight face, promise to reduce the deficit by half in five years? The Congressional Budget Office forecasts government spending over the next 10 years will quadruple the annual deficit of Bush's presidency. The CBO expects the nation's debt to double in five years and triple in 10.

Attended the Richmond, VA Tea Party last night.
Estimates have been upwards of 3000. Pretty good considering it was drizzling, breezy, and cool--low 50's. Weather put a damper on somewhat, but I personally was heartened to see the turnout and was content to count heads.
My sign had the Virginia State Seal on one side, adopted in 1776 (motto: Sic Semper Tyrannus; Thus Always to Tyrants,)and various beefs such as Geithner=Tax Cheat and Repeal the Reapportionment Act of 1929 on the other.

I attended the end of my local Reston, Virginia tea party. Well over 400 people. Based on 248 parking spots, cars on grass verges and lots of couples with children.
This is in Reston, Va, home of the Moran liberals.
Lots of Obama and Kerry stickers on cars here.

The venue changed to Baron Cameron Park just before show-time. Raining on a weeknight, but nice people, with thoughtful homemade signs. Pretty good turn-out, all considered.

Nice surprise today.......my sign I held for our Tea Party made the front page of the local paper. 1500 people showed up down on the River Street which was way over what the estimate was beforehand.
Front of sign: NO MORE STIMULUS! "TRIM U.S." GOVT.
Back of sign: FREEDOM NOT FIEFDOM! One very young boy asked his Grandfather what FIEFDOM means and the look on his face when his Grandfather told him was priceless! "No way!" he said.

So do we have an estimated total of citizens who attended today?

Yakko77 on April 16, 2009 at 12:33 AM

*bump*

I've been googling and all I can find is estimates for local rallies, not total around the nation.

Yeah let’s close up the borders and ban anything foreign. I can’t wait until I am forced to drive a UAW built Chevy Cobalt that will cost $50K.

Brilliant.

oh please. you know how you make sure you don’t get outsourced? you provide value to your employer.
angryed on April 16, 2009 at 12:17 AM

Yeah, real genius. Why don't you tell that to the hundreds of thousands of individuals who were doing just that when their employer shipped their paycheck off to Ching-Ling-Ding Land by the truckload? Are you insinuating that NONE of them were providing value to their employer?

There's little unpleasant truth about a completely free (AKA "unrestrained") market---the only thing that really matters is the numbers on bottom line. Among the ways to make sure those numbers are black and larger is to find workers who will do the same job for less pay. You know, kind of like what's happening with illegal immigration? Somehow that stupidity of that thought just keeps flying over our heads of my fellow conservatives.

or better yet, start your own business.

Like what, set up a lemonade stand? With Obummah's tax increases on the horizon and a worsening reception, existing (legitimate) businesses are already sweating bullets and burning the midnight oil trying to just exist. Now is not exactly the time to go hanging out your shingle.

Also attended Richmond, VA, behiker. Rainy, windy, and cold, I saw some folks with children leaving early. But a good crowd in the thousands(?) stayed until the end. Great signs, etc.
A number of us open carried our sidearms (though because of the weather, they were not as obvious as usual.) No real issues that I know of yet.

Was proud to see how many stuck out the bad weather. If it had been nicer, I bet 10,000 would have showed. Many, many, military veterans. Semper Fi!

5,000 patriotic Texans participated in the energetically civilized Austin Tea Party, chanting "U-S-A" for the local media newscasters covering the City Hall gathering. The evening media failed to broadcast from the State Capitol. It was great to witness articulate and groomed folks of all ages proving civic pride in their protest against federal abuses.

BTW
Interestingly, last night KLRU (PBS) broadcast a forum of Austin's mayoral candidates answering round table fashion a series of questions. Though of course she spoke very well, likely best for the job, Carol Keaton- did not look healthy. She was a brilliant State Comptroller, and has worn many hats to date as a Democrat, Republican and Independent Texan politician. The woman knows how to facilitate a consensus. I wish her mayoral campaign and her health well.

Erie Times-News article about the one I went to yesterday:

http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090416/NEWS02/304169918

The fact that it was in a brewerie, with a restaurant beside it and a mini-version of the Grand Station mega-crowded plus the dozens outside, was wonderful. Got pics and a video; if I post the video all you're gonna see is heads and a nice speech.

I like how the MSM tried to dictate what the protests were about.

I know people who voted for Obama for one reason: they think they will get free stuff. They think they will get money in the mail, free health care, free everything and anything. When and if that does not show up, they won’t vote for your guy anymore. That is the problem inherent in Obama’s policy. He has made too many promises to too many people.

Terrye on April 15, 2009 at 7:54 PM

This kind of says a lot of it to me, plus it all ended up stimulating governemnt and not business. Look at the bait that got him in; free stuff. Then look at the switch that happened; bigger govt. 100 days in and we get a good flavor of what he's up to. Oh but wait there's more...

The one thing government has to understand is "We the people" get to vote this crap out very very soon, ACORN permitting.

The TEA party at Honolulu was a great success, other than some clown walking around with a sign that said "9/11 was an inside job."

I met a guy from Belgium who couldn't understand why we didn't want European style socialism. Whatever.

Highlight for me was the tourist from New York who was given the mic, and he warned us all not to let happen to Hawaii what happened in New York. Maybe he was too late, the state legislature yesterday passed new taxes on the tourism industry and vehicle registrations. Next up, they're considering a tax on pensions. Good grief.

Great to see so many who love liberty!

Ahh yes, the same old myth that conservatives pay the taxes to support the lazy liberals. Perhaps I can direct you to some Data?

“The report shows that of the 32 states (and the District of Columbia) that are “winners” — receiving more in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes — 76% are Red States that voted for George Bush in 2000. Indeed, 17 of the 20 (85%) states receiving the most federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Red States…In contrast, of the 16 states that are “losers” — receiving less in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes — 69% are Blue States that voted for Al Gore in 2000. Indeed, 11 of the 14 (79%) of the states receiving the least federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Blue States…Two states — Florida and Oregon (coincidentally, the two closest states in the 2000 Presidential election) — received $1.00 in federal spending for each $1.00 in federal taxes paid. “

I see this simplistic analysis almost every time this debate comes up.

I'm a red individual making a very nice living in a blue state. I would bet my last dollar that it's red individuals like me paying the majority of the blue states' taxes. You did see that NYC got something like 50% of its tax revenues from 1% of its residents, right? What do you think those 1%'s voting pattern looks like? Red or blue?

How much in income tax do you think Mayor Bloomberg pays in federal income tax as opposed to people living in the South Bronx? I probably pay as much as a dozen blue morons where I live in Chicago, but of course they'll outvote me. And that's not even counting the other blue morons who pay no taxes. Congratulations, you've just become a member of the "Supporters of the Tyranny of the Majority" club. You must be so proud.

Plus, if you actually read the comments at your link, which I did to see if anyone had the brains to point this out, there are a variety of other reasons why the data net out the way they do, chief among them military spending and the peculiarities of the US Senate representing each state equally, regardless of population.
