White House: Obama not aware of tea parties?

posted at 3:55 pm on April 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

Snarks Slublog, “Of course. They’re not about him.” Actually, it’s unclear if Obama’s aware or not: The GMA clip below says he isn’t but Tapper, who follows the White House beat and is in a better position to know, says there’s been no WH comment on the subject. Let’s hope GMA got it wrong, because if not, either The One’s less informed about the opposition in his own country than Australian newspaper readers or it’s a silly lie cooked up by the White House to delegitimize the protests as not worthy of the president’s interest. Bad news, whichever it is.

After you watch the quick hit from GMA, click the image for Santelli expressing a little populist pride in the rallies on CNBC this morning. Like Marc Ambinder says, as an example of grassroots organizing and a bellwether of political action in the Twitter age, “the tea parties really are something.” Ruffini, in fact, sees them as the first step in the rise of “distributed activism” on the right to push the conservative agenda. Which is to say, if The One’s not paying attention, he should be.

He’s aware. He just doesn’t give a crap.

That’s pretty much the attitude of the drive-bys, the Dems, and the left(I know, I’m being redundant). They view us as hicks, sore losers, right-wing extremists, and puppets of Fox News, the GOP, and Rush and Hannity.

We need to carry the momentum of these tea parties all the way to the midterms. That’s the only way these morons living in their bubbles will truly get the message that we’re fed up.

mankai on April 15, 2009 at 4:03 PM

You are taking the wrong approach on this…. His teleprompter is unaware of the tea parties, thus Obama can not know. It’s just more of the same of Obama – trust me – he doesn’t like what’s going on today, because it tells him that his political future is zip. We’re going to take this country back. Too bad we don’t have a Republican Leader somewhere in Washington. Spineless bums.

suzyk on April 15, 2009 at 4:03 PM

Obama has heard about it, and knows it’s a political landmine. If he speaks out favorably about them, it’s his best bet to scrape off even a little popularity from the reaction. However, even in the best case, he knows he’s not going to be able to shield himself from the backlash that will be had noting his hypocrisy and failure to answer the cries of the protesters.

That’s fine, though. We knew he was a trainwreck as soon as his first week was over. We just need to tough it out until he buries himself in bad decisions.

jencab on April 15, 2009 at 4:06 PM

Bazaar. I remember this tactic in high school. When the cool kids were at war one would throw a party and not invite the other group. Other group would retend it wasn’t happening and hold their own event. WTH is WRONG with this man? What IS it? Is that he figures that Tea party Attendees didn’t vote for him so they don’t matter? He’s only President of the 53% of the voters that voted for him? And that’s not 53% of the nation, that’s only 53% of the total number of people who voted because there was a butt load of people who have completely tuned out, given up and wouldn’t vote for the best squirrel sex scene on a free porn channel.

This President is TWO. There. I said it. He is running the Whitehouse like it’s pre-kindergarden. Grow up Mr. President. We may never like you, but you should at least be a respectable representative and you make your OWN supporters look like children when you behave this way.

HornetSting on April 15, 2009 at 4:22 PM

He’s aware. If he’s not, then his administration is failing him, BIG time.

The fact that they want to play out this ruse that he’s not aware….just shows they are either very concerned, and feel any comment on it is not a good thing, or they think people will put their signs down, and go home, because if Obama doesn’t care, it doesn’t matter.

Just my opinion, but every gut instinct I have tells me, he’s fully aware of this.

White House On Tea Parties: We Passed The Biggest Tax Cut In History

getalife on April 15, 2009 at 4:27 PM

Of course, Obama is aware of them…his Department of Homeland Security is giving him briefings on those nasty right-wing threats to the Nation…well, aren’t they?

This contention that Obama is not aware of the Tea Parties is disingenuous at best…more like a lie.

It is this condescending treatment of the average American citizen by Obama, his disregard for anyone who is not in lockstep behind him, that gives all the more reason why these Tea Parties need to grow exponentially between now and the 2010 and 2012 elections. A host of incumbents are going to be put out of office…starting with Pelosi, and Reid, et al., and a lot of RINO’s as well, and ending with Obama.

Louis XVI chose to ignore the rabble…did him a whole lot of good, too.

That is what I thought but I wanted to be sure. It is a complete barefaced lie that qualifies as a tax cut. You could play around with your own withholding if you want to. Bush’s stimulus last year gave us $1197 that we did not have to claim this year, that is stimulus. Obama and Gibbs should get called out on this. Why does nobody ever mention it?

what tea parties? i thought they were canceled coz there’s nobody out there. i was waiting for the heavily-promoted loons’ march but it’s been pretty anticlimactic. 8 million ppl in nyc and not one teabagger… where’s my circus, dammit? the anti-war loons were at least good at organizing.

well,Junior. Unlike the pathetic losers in the anti war groups, most people who protest these tax thingies are you know employed and junk. I mean, why would the losers from the anti war groups protest tax hikes? It’s not like they have jobs or something.

I went to the one here during my lunch hour. Er Lunch half an hour.

next pathetic rant, darling?

Obama operatives consigned the DHS report in order to perform a pre-emptive strike, and he doubled down by taking over the airwaves again this morning.
We’re looking forward to the giant Tea Party in Washington, D.C. on July 4. Do you think that after that one they can still say The One is ‘unaware’ of them? Oh, and btw, they ARE about him!

One question O Creator of Worlds.
Will my demographic be attending any teaparties?

It’s clear the WH strategy was to ignore the events. On CNBC earlier today Larry Kudlow tried to pin down a WH mouthpiece, a friend of his what he thought about the Tea Parties.
The guy was ready. He deflected then when pressed again by Kudlow he got defensive and said his opinion did not matter.

He still never acknowledged or even mentioned the word “tea party”.

This is a huge mistake by the White House. They had a chance to embrace the merit of the efforts of tens of thousands of patriotic Americans.

It would have been easy to acknowledge the anger felt by the citizenry.

The fact they decided to ignore the day’s events means they are indeed affected by the outcry. It also shows they are completely unconcerned about the concerns of average American.

They’ve accepted tea parties are an “us against them” scenario and that’s too bad.

Government should understand the people.
