Poll: 72% think Obama won’t make U.S. less safe
posted at 8:50 pm on April 13, 2009 by Allahpundit
If we’ve lost the national security vote, what’s left?
Seventy-two percent of those questioned in the poll released Monday disagree with Cheney’s view that some of Obama’s actions have put the country at greater risk, with 26 percent agreeing with the former vice president…
CNN Polling Director Keating Holland pointed out the partisan divide evident in the results. “By a 53 percent to 46 percent margin, Republicans agree with Dick Cheney,” he said. “But more than nine in 10 Democrats believe that Obama has not made the country less safe from terrorism. They are joined by more than seven in 10 independents who don’t see an increase in the threat from terrorism since Obama took office.”
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll was conducted April 3-5, before an American cargo ship captain was taken hostage by Somali pirates, and before Sunday’s successful action by the U.S. Navy to free the captain.
A 26 percent showing means almost half of Republicans think Cheney’s gone overboard with his rhetoric. Dude?

Don’t believe any poll from CNN. They won’t even post opposing comments against Obama or any other conservative on their “Ticker”.

After seeing the Navy being allowed to deal with piracy by eliminating direct threats to Americans I certainly feel a lot better about the world trying to test Obama then I did a week ago. That was a small but powerful message that he allowed to be sent.
It also seems that even though there has been a lot of talk about ending successful Bush programs they are not going away any time soon.

Meh.
There are millions of
foolsgenerally well-intentioned people who mistakenly voted for Obama … and thus have a serious emotional investment in his success. They’re keeping their blinders on for now – and its intentional. The alternative is to admit what should already be obvious: they made a very big mistake.
They’ll get there, though. Give them time. You can only ignore plain reality so long.
Professor Blather on April 13, 2009 at 8:56 PM
Sorry, but this was a no choice choice. The alternative – doing nothing and letting the pirates and their bounty drift towards the Somali coast – would have ultimately required Barry to make a real decision: how or if to save the captain once he was on Somali soil.
A monkey could have made this decision. Oh, crap – I said ‘monkey’ – better watch out for the PC police.
redfoxbluestate on April 13, 2009 at 8:56 PM
It’s all in the question. For Gods sake they were asking democrats to agree with Dick Cheney, if he’d said the sky was blue they would disagree in huge numbers.

Let’s get real . . . bringing down 3 idiot “pirates” is a far cry from providing a secure defense for the United States. He’s canceling the F-22, downsizing the Army and the Navy, attempting to neutralize our nuclear strike capability and our missile defense program and drastically cutting the rest of the defense budget. Only a glassy eyed, leg tingling leftist Democrat could believe we will remain a secure nation.

President Obama is incredibly likable, and the fact that many journalists and a lot of the American people want to support him is no surprise.
His approach to politics fits the modern culture quite well-a smooth, well-articulated style light on substance and details, and then use Cabinet Secretaries and other members of the Administration to articulate the actual changed policy.
Our culture values high quality rhetoric when evaluating results and facts takes time, energy, and effort.
There are very few journalists willing to ask serious questions of the President (with the exception of Tapper/Major Garrett), there is no effective leadership in the G.O.P. to serve as the attack dog, and, consequently, we (conservatives) have a very likable President, who sees no GOP threat to him, nor his administration’s policies.
sDs61678 on April 13, 2009 at 9:11 PM
Allah,
It does’nt matter whether the GOP has “lost” the national security vote. This republic is headed towards a full fledged socialist state. It would’nt matter who has the security vote, in this scenario.
If you have been watching, Obama has basically tried to go along with the many (if not all) of the same terrorism related policies as the Bush Administration , even though it talks the “moral high horse” game… this is what makes Cheney’s comments seem wierd. Has he even seen what Obama is ACTUALLY doing?
Even the Left has come to understand Obama’s “change” and is merely “disappointed.” by his policies on their favorite issues.
But what does matter is – which party has the vote of the beggars – and i think there is no doubt, that the Dems have a monopoly on that.
If Obama manages to pass 2 of the 3 favorites of the left
(immunity to illegal immigration, single payer health care, cap and trade), the Republican Party will exist in name only.
Heck, the Republic will exist in name only. or better yet it will change to the United States Socialist Republic. officially.

He’s already made us less safe. Evidence? The Somali pirates have been around for a very long time and have been attacking with impunity virtually any vessel flagged by virtually any nation – save one – the United States.
Less than a hundred days after Obama the pirates did what they dared not do under Bush – they attacked a US flagged vessel.
There’s absolutely no doubt of this. The merchant vessel “Alabama” was not doing anything when it was taken that US merchants haven’t been doing for years – yet the Somali pirates allowed our vessels safe passage in favor of “easier” targets such as Iranian, Saudi, and yes, even French targets.
You’d be naive to think that it’s simply “coincidence” that the Somalis chose to take a US ship after George Bush was gone and Obama had embarked on his “apology tour” in Europe.
But don’t worry – though Americans don’t “feel” that they are less safe just yet – there will be bell ringing opportunities enough for them in the future to deduce this fact.

That’s because the terrorists planned the 9/11 attacks while Clinton was president, and most importantly, while the nation was distracted by the Monica Lewinsky cigar-in-vajayjay incident. The first WTC bombing, the US Cole and the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings all happened under his watch. The Bush team were on the job for a whopping 8 months before 9/11.
The next attack is being planned now. It could take a year or two for the terrorists to catch up since they had been busy fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan for several years. But it will happen. You can count on it.
Good thing you are safe there in Canada.

Granted, this was a problem way before he was our president, but it was under his power and obligation to repair that.
