A quick prayer request
posted at 10:00 pm on April 13, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
I hope Hot Air readers will bear with me, but a close friend of the First Mate could use as much prayers and positive energy as possible. Melinda has known my wife for many years from their days at Braille, but while we’ve been blessed by restored health through transplantation, Melinda hasn’t been as fortunate. She’s had chronic health problems from her diabetes, including a quadruple-bypass last year. She has been in kidney failure but too sick for a transplant. She had just begun improving enough to move from a hospital to a nursing home and had looked forward to going home this week, in time for her 49th birthday. Instead, Melinda just got sent back to ICU with an MRSA staph infection.
Please keep Melinda and her husband Larry in your prayers.

Dear Lord,
Please lift up Melinda, Larry and their family in their time of need. You are a gracious God and allow us free will in our lives. You also bring us miracles when we pray. You gave your only begotten son so that we might live forever.
Thank you Father for your man blessings. Please touch this family with your healing hand and bring relief to the suffering.

Jesus, you said where two or three agree as touching anything on earth it will be done by our Father in Heaven. Father, we agree with with doriangrey’s prayer and believe that You are the God that heals us. Jesus, you took the stripes on Your body that Melinda might be healed. We pray that she will live and not die and declare the works of the Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.

Ed, I’ve followed your First Mate stories since the early days at CQ; partly because I share the insidious ailment of diabetes, and partly because I find your open belief in prayer to be a refreshing thing on the modern internet. If it helps you any, please know that your faith has been a blessing to me in my own struggles. I’m glad to return the favor.
And so from one believer to another, you can bet I’ll be adding my own prayers to those of your other friends here, and looking forward to hearing good news soon about Melinda.

So sorry to hear about your close friend. I will keep her in my prayers. This is exactly what my mom has been going through since August 2008. She is diabetic and also had a quadruple bypass. She also contracted MRSA. She came home in December, but went back in Jan to have a pace maker put in. That also then became infected with MRSA. She has just finished a month of oxygen treatments, and is doing better, but still is not home. I will continue praying for your friend.

I’m reminded of a story i learned in hebrew school about a little boy who didn’t know any prayers so he just kept repeating the alphabet in hebrew as his own way of praying. Any prayer, no matter how simple, helps.

Dearest Jesus,
All glory to You, to the Father, and to the Holy Spirit. You know all things. You know our coming in and our going out. You know our needs before we can speak them. We pray for your healing and comfort to Melinda. We know that she has found favor in Your sight, because you have already called her. We now ask your grace and mercy for her. Keep her in Your care. All praise and honor to You. We pray this in Your Holy Name.
Amen, Amen, and Amen.

Will do. She is included in my prayers. I have in the past used the Silent Unity Prayer Hotline, which is a non-denominational faith that will pray for anyone in their needs, and they don’t even ask what faith you belong to before they give prayer help. They are manned 24/7. I will include the information if anyone is interested.

Will do. My family has recently had to deal with almost the same situation. My step-father had cancer and he was in a nursing home and had a bad reaction to one of his medications and was in ICU at Ohio State University Medical Center for 2 weeks with a ventilator. They needed a decision on whether or not to put a trach in and we told them no because he said that if a ventilator was the only thing keeping him alive then he didn’t want to stay here.
Well to get to the point, he did so well after they took him off the ventilator that they put him in his own room. Well then he went back to the nursing home and passed away later in the week. We think he just waited to see his grandson because he was only 7 and not allowed in ICU. He passed away on March 19th and we actually just had his service this past Saturday.
I made the tribute video for the service if anyone cares to watch… Jacob T. Marshall III Memorial.
Pray for my mother as well since we are talking about prayer requests. She has been doing well for the most part, but she broke down during the service on Saturday.
