A quick prayer request

posted at 10:00 pm on April 13, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

I hope Hot Air readers will bear with me, but a close friend of the First Mate could use as much prayers and positive energy as possible.  Melinda has known my wife for many years from their days at Braille, but while we’ve been blessed by restored health through transplantation, Melinda hasn’t been as fortunate.  She’s had chronic health problems from her diabetes, including a quadruple-bypass last year.  She has been in kidney failure but too sick for a transplant.  She had just begun improving enough to move from a hospital to a nursing home and had looked forward to going home this week, in time for her 49th birthday.  Instead, Melinda just got sent back to ICU with an MRSA staph infection.

Please keep Melinda and her husband Larry in your prayers.

Definitely, Ed. And what a wonderful person you are–the confidence to ask for prayers. I really admire that.

Melinda and Larry are in our prayers and we’ll be thinking of them as well.

Add my hopes and prayers for Melinda and Larry to the list! The heartfelt prayers of so many strangers are bright and glittering proof that none of us ever needs to face the darkness alone. I’m looking forward to the day I log into Hot Air and see a happy hello from brave Melinda.

Prayers are like honey on a burn.

Inexplicable, but effective.

My prayers go out to you. I firmly believe and have witnessed the power of prayer.God bless and keep you.

sandee on April 14, 2009 at 12:10 AM

I will include my prayer in a way that will be with as little denominationalism as possible. Those that wish to join me may please translate it into a form which is more acceptable to their own faith. As I see it, it is our job, those of us that pray, to Know the Truth and stand fast in its’ perfection. It is the Truth that sets us free; how it transpires is not in our hands, it is in our Creator’s. One with God is a majority, when we “have the faith of a mustard seed” and raise ourselves up to God’s Will, not ours.
Blessings….

In the beginning, God created all, perfect and whole. The Divine Presence is always here, Omnipresent within all people, places, things and conditions, no mater who or what they are, what their beliefs are or even what they have done in life. In spite of what our 5 sense are telling us, God’s loving Grace is there, doing His Will in this situation, for the highest and best outcome for all concerned. And for this, Father, we give thanks, And it is so.
Amen…

Prayers are like honey on a burn.

Inexplicable, but effective.

Actually, honey is proven to be an antiseptic/antibiotic.

I think prayer works the same way too.

Prayers to the families.

We are praying for Melinda and Larry.

Ed, you are a good man. God bless you and the First Mate.

Terrie on April 14, 2009 at 12:17 AM

Yes Ed,
It is 12:20am. I see you posted at 10PM. I definately will pray for her. I do so for many on a daily basis. And it isn’t just a nice thing to say Ed. I definately do. I am a diabetic too and have had friends who were transplants too. It always is a situation that causes much concern.

I WILL be lifting her name and Larry also to the Our LORD and Saviour and healer.
Amen.

Keeping Melinda in my thoughts and prayers tonight, and beyond. May the Lord keep her close, whatever He decides is best for her at this point. Special prayers for Larry, too.

Prayer sent up for your wife’s friend. Good health is something most of us take for granted.

Lord, here our prayers.

You betcha ED! ::wink::

So much to go through at her age. Have you and the First Mate in prayers as well. Will put Melinda on the prayer chain in Georgia.

We’re here for you, Ed.

That sounded almost as arrogant as Obama…

As if we should get any credit should someone’s health improves.

God is here for you, Ed.

Ed, my heart goes out to your friends, Melinda and Larry.

May her suffering be eased.
And may all of you be given comfort.

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.

Where charity and love are, God is there.

You are not alone.

Loxodonta on April 14, 2009 at 1:39 AM

Praying for Melinda, and Larry, and of course you and your family too, Ed.

I’m also praying for the lost souls here at Hot Air. Especially AllahP who leads those that are already astray further away from our Savior and our Father, and eternal life, and closer to eternal death.

Very troubled times for us all. Very confusing times for so very many, and very sad times for so many more, indeed.

God Bless.

I will pray for your friend Ed. My sister went into a very well respected NYC Hospital for treatment of an obstruction, and came out with MRSA too. Despite the doctor’s refusal to treat it properly, our prayers were answered and the infection went into remission after about four to six weeks. The perks are that your friend should always go to the head of the line at the doctor’s office and is now part of an exclusive club.

eaglewingz08 on April 14, 2009 at 6:08 AM

I hope Hot Air readers will bear with me

Dear Ed:

Please take comfort knowing that there are many Hot Air readers who are bearing with you, your wife and most especially your friends in need, Melinda and Larry.

And just because some are not posting here, please consider that this does not mean they don’t want you posting a prayer request. Many care, but may simply not know what to write in these situations.

Please let us know how Melinda is doing.

Bless you all.

Loxodonta on April 14, 2009 at 6:49 AM

My prayers are with the lady Ed. I think a few prayers might be in order for your wife too, losing a friend is heartbreaking.

… Well then he went back to the nursing home and passed away later in the week. We think he just waited to see his grandson because he was only 7 and not allowed in ICU. He passed away on March 19th and we actually just had his service this past Saturday.

Pray for my mother as well since we are talking about prayer requests. She has been doing well for the most part, but she broke down during the service on Saturday.

MobileVideoEngineer on April 13, 2009 at 11:28 PM

Thank you for telling this story. I think you’re right about your step-father waiting to see his grandson. I’ve seen similar little miracles in hospices and nursing homes. This was a gift for both your step-father and his grandson, and perhaps even for your mother.

I send prayers that your mother will find comfort and strength in her grieving, as well as you and the rest of your family.

Absolutely will keep Melinda in my prayers.

My mom and dad would also benefit from your prayers and well-wishes. My dad has ALS and is now confined to in-home hospice care. My mom struggles daily to care for him as his health slowly deteriorates. We know that at some point, this horrible disease will take his life.

Thanks for listening…

CliffHanger on April 14, 2009 at 10:04 AM

I will pray for her. MRSA is a nasty piece of business. My sister in law had it a few years ago and my niece just had it a few months ago.

jewells45 on April 14, 2009 at 10:13 AM

Done, Ed.

Like Achilles, I am nowhere near a “perfect Christian,” but I do pray and will keep Melinda in my prayers.

And I’d also like to say something I’ve thought many times since joining Hot Air. There are an exceptionally fine group of people who frequent this site and it’s an honor to keep company with you all. You’ve got me rethinking a lot things that had gone by the wayside over the years.

The Light of God surrounds me;
The Love of God enfolds me;
The Power of God protects me;
The Presence of God watches over me;
Wherever I am, God is,
And all is well.

Best wishes to Melinda and Larry. The 49th birthday party may not be the most fun, but let’s hope that #50 is a grand celebration.

Prayers away. God hears them all.

Everybody, always remember – our battle against Socialism is, also, a battle against the elimination of God from the public forum.

Socialism begets atheism.

Proclaim belief and faith in God and in Jesus Christ, wherever and whenever you get the opportunity. Our schools and politicians will be doing the opposite – and our children are in the balance.

CliffHanger on April 14, 2009 at 10:04 AM

Cliff your whole family is in my family’s prayers (along with mobile editor). I had a boyfriend in college whose father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when he was 49 and the toll on his mom, primary care-giver, and the family was immeasurable. ALS is so pernicious and overwhelming; your mom and dad are brave – but I have a feeling you already knew that :)

God Bless!

Branch Rickey on April 14, 2009 at 5:02 PM

Ed,
I will definately pray for your friends. This is the best thing you could do for them. Ask for the prayers of the many good people here. Like someone said, many just read and may not post.

Your friends will have countless people praying for them.

And I will pray for those posting on this thread and all those on this website. Actually I pray for everyone here every day. But I will pray especially for your intentions today.

God bless you all and your families.
Love
Elisa
