As of January 8, 2009, Rear Admiral Terence E. McKnight, U.S. Navy, is commanding a multi-national naval force to confront piracy off the coast of Somalia. This new anti-piracy force was designated Combined Task Force 151 (CTF-151), a multinational task force of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). The USS San Antonio (LPD-17) was designated as the flagship of Combined Task Force 151, serving as an afloat forward staging base (AFSB).
Most of those more than 20 navies contributing ships in the region are part of this task force already.
It is already in place…and ROE’s have already been designated…they just need to be kicked up a few notches.

It’s as if the pirates are entitled to having successful ship hijackings. Fact is, the pirates assumed the risk of being captured, injured, and/or killed when they decided to hijack the boat.
The idiots being quoted in the article are proof of reverse evolution. They seem to overlook the fact that the pirates instigated the incident.
When China executed pirates some years ago, I don’t recall the same proclamation against China.

Bringing justice to cruel pirates on an unforgiving sea

Loxodonta on April 12, 2009 at 11:59 PM
Arm the crew and tell them to defend their ships. It’s been that way since ships have existed. Breaking news: There are people in the world who would rather steal than make an honest living. They have guns to help them.
Life on a ship is dull. There is plenty of time to practice marksmanship and train for any occurance. Shoot first and ask question never. If they didn’t walk up the gangplank, they don’t belong on that ship.
From my expereinces with muslim’s, they are pretty bold until someone is shooting back at them.

Spirit of 1776 on April 13, 2009 at 12:02 AM
If you get a chance, check out the comments in “Headlines” concerning Obama giving two orders to take out the Pirates.
A great breakdown is presented by:
which really puts this situation in perspective.
If Obama gets this much credit for saving the life of an American overseas,I guess this makes Bush a genius and far superior leader for freeing over 50 million.
It is good though to see the “anti-war”,”anti-violence” crowd embrace the use of force and escalation of war now that a democrat is in office.
I noticed that waving the peace sign, making clever bumper stickers, and negotiating with terrorist is not what saved this Captain,it was the use of force.
If I was the left,I would be careful jumping up and down and glorifying Obama for this military operation.
They are going to have a real hard time discounting events that don’t go right as “somebody else’s fault” when giving Obama so much credit by merely telling our military “take them out if the Captain’s life is in danger”.
Not exactly a hard decision to make.
Today was a great day for our men and women in uniform and for the President to allow them to do their job. I will be a lot more impressed when this translates to success in:

But according to so many Somalis, the disruption of Europe’s darling of a trade route, is just Karma biting a perpetrator in the butt. And if you don’t believe in Karma, maybe you believe in recent history. Here is why we Somalis find ourselves slightly shy of condemning our pirates.
Somalia has been without any form of a functioning government since 1991. And although its failures, like many other toddler governments in Africa, sprung from the wells of post-colonial independence, bad governance and development loan sharks, the specific problem of piracy was put in motion in 1992.
Well, that’s refreshing… Maybe with this same logic we could start holding illegal Mexican aliens hostage and demand that they compensate every legal American that can’t find a job – you know, in the name of Karma and all…
