Video: MSNBC devotes 13 minutes to “teabagging” puns

posted at 8:47 pm on April 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

I couldn’t bear to watch all the way through both clips, but from what I saw, the only reference to “tea bags” rather than “tea parties” comes from Griff Jenkins on Fox News. Ah well, fodder enough for not one but two segments in primetime on the left’s cable news net of choice. This reminds me of the “fishsticks” joke on South Park last week: Amusing the first time you hear it, increasingly tedious every time thereafter — which was part of the satire on SP but seems lost on Maddow. I give her credit, though, for her choice of guests. There’s no one better equipped to deal with this topic than Cox, who pioneered the art of beating ribald humor to death with her constant mentions of anal on Wonkette. Well done, ladies.

I was going to post about ASU surrendering to the left’s death threats by announcing a new scholarship in Obama’s name, but that seemed too depressing for a Saturday night so I went with this instead. Feel free to comment on either below.

Good grief, I’d take a nice guy over some jerk like Olbermann even if he was unemployed and looked like PeeWee Herman.

You’d take him if he made $4 million.

Allahpundit on April 11, 2009 at 9:50 PM

If he has a girlfriend it definitely is because they like $$. I can’t fathom any other reason. I mean seriously, look at him. Or listen to him. The day will come when no one will do either.

Seriously, four million dollars doesn’t mean a thing when you are looking at a person who is so hideous inside.

Uh, yah, according to Ariana Huffington… OMG, like you didn’t know that.

Upstater85 on April 11, 2009 at 9:53 PM

No, I wouldn’t. There are some things that aren’t worth even 1 million. Or 150 grand. Or even 35grand. He’s not the kind of guy I’d take home and introduce to poppa. I’d get “the look.”

scalleywag on April 11, 2009 at 9:53 PM

1GooDDaDDy on April 11, 2009 at 9:40 PM

I’m in the wrong part of the country, sadly. Thanks though. But I will take Wednesday off (I’m maxed out on savable vacation time anyhow) and go to the one here in Toledo.

And you know, the kind of woman who’d whore herself with Keith Olberman, just to get a piece of his money, well I’m not sure I’d be able to stand her. Feigning interest in a woman just to get her in the sack does have its limits, no matter how hot she is.

rbj on April 11, 2009 at 9:53 PM

No, because he has a talent the left values.

Allahpundit on April 11, 2009 at 9:40 PM

No he has pictures of someone involving goats or something. Alternative explanation, he made a pact with the devil. There aren’t enough dollars in an Obama bailout for me to want someone like Olbermann.

Doesn’t the fact that Gallagher clumsily named her anti-SSM effort 2M4M demonstrate how tone-deaf the GOP is to culture?
Haven’t you guys ever heard of Craig’s List or the Urban Dictionary?
You morons named your major bigtime protest event after a sex act!

I’m not even a teabagger and I’ve got to say that this thread smacks of ignorance… Perhaps we should rewrite the history books. *Tea tehehe…* Plus, are you sure your IQ is high enough to make these jokes? It might be 5 points too low… You know what (whom) I am referring to…

Upstater85 on April 11, 2009 at 9:59 PM

I can’t bring myself to watch the link, but I have to say I’m amazed that a news organization would stoop to this level. And, honestly, how many people know what “tea bagging” is? I’m in my 40s, but I only heard about it a couple of years ago (on Bob & Tom). So who’s in on the joke? And if they are in on it, why is this sort of reference appropriate on basic cable?

Upstater85 on April 11, 2009 at 10:06 PM

Note well Maddow’s technique. She focuses on the handful of people who used the word “teabag” (as a verb), the people who question Obama’s place of birth, etc. She paints this as a purely anti-Obama movement, when in fact most of the anger is directed at Congress. She will do anything to avoid discussion of the outrage that Congress has chosen to saddle our grandchildren with crushing debt in order to “stimulate” the economy and bail out financial-sector fat-cats who made bad business decisions.

And that line about the largest middle-class tax cut in history is a bunch of crap. There is a huge difference between reducing marginal tax rates and increasing targeted tax credits. The former relieves the tax code’s disincentive to earn more money; the latter only encourages people to try to position themselves in one or more of the beneficiary categories.

The Monster on April 11, 2009 at 10:07 PM

Couldn’t watch. I didn’t need to. The other media has finally decided to cover the tea parties. Yea, they are ridiculing the sentiment and playing it as if the people attending are knuckle draggers.

This is liberalism at its best and Rachel Maddow does it well.
She looks like she can hardly contain her mirth at the lunacy of it all.

Jvette on April 11, 2009 at 9:41 PM

This is not about what a sensitive bunch of nitwits says it is about.

It is about a LOT of people who are more than fed up.

Make your little jokes, morons; we are not going away. In fact, the more you try to scorn us, the stronger we become. We are the people and we will be heard in the long run.

Enough is enough, and we are fast approaching too much.

Anna Marie Cox the ?person? who put butt love on the blogger map LOL! yeah that’s impressive. Rachel that’s a pretty name.

Dr Evil on April 11, 2009 at 11:13 PM

Well sure Maddow covered it have you seen her ratings lately? Trying to help her out Allah, trying to get her some eyeballs, that’s sweet.

She says conservative like they are aliens 46% of the electorate didn’t vote for Obama but still MSNBC doesn’t want them watching their channel..no problem.

Er, ok. If Meghan McCain is homely looking than I’m a beast:)

terryannonline on April 11, 2009 at 11:21 PM

I have never seen either of those women before, what a couple of morons!

serenity on April 11, 2009 at 11:22 PM

MegMac isn’t homely looking. She’s just an air-head.

terryannonline on April 11, 2009 at 11:06 PM

How about homely airhead?

terryannonline on April 11, 2009 at 11:06 PM

I guess I deserve your ire, terryann. I was merely trying to point out the irony of AP suggesting that women will succumb to $4 million, regardless. (The MegMac was an afterthought.)

Get it?

hillbillyjim on April 11, 2009 at 11:26 PM

terryann, do you like this guy?

Entelechy on April 11, 2009 at 11:43 PM

If only I had $4 million.

Allahpundit on April 11, 2009 at 10:05 PM
In tomorrow’s Obama-adjusted dollars, that would barely buy you a cheap whore.

Aim big, dude.

hillbillyjim on April 11, 2009 at 10:13 PM

Brilliantly funny!

Those two clowns spending 13 minutes discussing teabagging just proves they’re scared. It’s all part of the isolate and destroy technique that they tried to pull on Rush and Glenn Beck.

Obviously Maddow has only heard about teabagging…

MSNBC is Channel 120 on my cable line up.

119? The Game Show Channel.

What’s her name still has a show on tv, or is a netcast now?

When are they going to merge into the same channel? Let me guess… 121 is CSPAN-White House Coverage aka The Gong Show.

So I can blame you for Denver becoming one giant sucking sound. You “cultured” twits drove out everything that was cool about Denver so you could emulate Dupont Circle.

Before you comment on anyone being out of touch you should learn how to read and do a little research yourself.

And falloutboy SUCKS. If they had any talent they wouldn’t need mtv shilling for them. Watching no talent derivative bubblegum clowns is just so much fun.

The Gong Show had talent, relatively speaking of course.

jdkchem on April 12, 2009 at 12:08 AM

There’s no one better equipped to deal with this topic than Cox, who pioneered the art of beating ribald humor to death with her constant mentions of anal on Wonkette. Well done, ladies.

And that from the bags themselves.

Ed M. has referred to the O-admn. as The Gong Show… But, yes, I’m sure the real Gong Show had more talent – not hard to achieve.

Meghan McCain… Madcow’s a little on the slight side compared to MegMac.

Any day I anticipate them merging with Entertainment Tonight and Cosmo…

But then again, HuffPo and Salon are “newsworthy”… so we shouldn’t mock them…

Upstater85 on April 12, 2009 at 12:22 AM

It’s hard to watch mostly because it’s so tedious and boring. The initial joke (tea bagging) is funny if you’re twelve, and admittedly Maddow does kinda look the part of a teenage boy, but even she’s forcing the chuckles.

In the hands of actual comedic talent, this could have been funny. But delivered as news(?), commentary(?), or whatever it is, it just falls flat.

This is an excellent case study for why the Libs cannot attract an audience. Their humor is self-absorbed and monotonous, and when you pare away the fluff, there’s no substance.

Are the Lefties suggesting that taxes are just fine and that anyone concerned about gargantuan budget deficits is a silly “teabagger”? Frankly, it’s on the substance that the whole bit falls apart. While not funny, you could see where they were going with the teabagging skit. But I dare any of the Lefties on this blog to extract from Maddow’s performance just what the hell her substantive point was, assuming there was one.

Lib radio and Lib TV, pretty bad.
