Rove: Biden should develop a habit of truth-telling

Karl Rove doesn’t want to call Joe Biden a liar, but “serial exaggerator” probably undersells it. “He’s making these things up out of whole cloth,” Rove says about Biden’s claim that he spent “hours” alone with George Bush, and told him that “no one was following him.” In these circumstances, Rove’s epithet of “blowhard” might be the mildest description:
Rove pulls out the kitchen sink on Biden, making sure to prominently mention Biden’s theft of Neil Kinnock’s speech in the 1988 presidential race. Once someone does that, their veracity remains in question, especially since he lifted Kinnock’s family history as well. If a man trots out lies like that in public, making his origins more humble than they were, it points to a deep-seated urge to aggrandize one’s own accomplishments. It’s not a great leap to lying in order to make yourself look like the man who could scold a president.
If you want the background on this, read Allahpundit’s post last night, in which he got to write a cool headline. Greg Hengler says Biden’s sticking to his story. Calinda Wolff, though, appears to have the last word on this:
Other Bush officials back up Rove’s assessment, including former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, former Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, and Calinda Wolff, former Bush White House liaison to Congress. Fleischer reportedly reviewed detailed notes of Biden’s White House visits, which include direct quotes from the former Senator. Wolff, took particular issue with another of Biden’s stories, in which he recalled spending “hours” alone with President Bush in the Oval Office.
The president would never sit through two hours of Joe Biden. I don’t ever remember Biden being in the Oval. He was such a blowhard on all that stuff – there wasn’t a reason to bring him in.”
Blowhard sounds better than liar. Both apply.

We’re Biden our time until his next gaffe:
1) Biden on poor D.C. school performance compared to Iowa: “There’s less than 1 percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4 or 5 percent that is, are minorities. What is it in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you’re dealing with.”
2) Biden, predicting crisis before June: “Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy (Obama)…we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
3) Biden told Jon Stewart, “John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off — be well off no matter who …,” where Stewart cut him off.
4) Biden repeatedly insisted that Hillary Clinton would’ve probably been a better choice for Obama.
5) Biden publicly opposed the AIG bailout, not realizing his running mate was for it
6) Biden called Palin Alaska’s “Lieutenant Governor”.
7) Biden accidentaly introduced his running mate as “Barack America”.
8) Biden, while trying to win votes in hotly contested Ohio, taunted Ohioans by announcing that Delaware’s team could “kick” the Ohio State football team’s, uh, posterior.
9) Biden publicly promised to ban “clean” coal after his running mate promised to invest heavily in it.
10) Biden told an endearing three-sentence summary supposedly about his own life, but it was taken nearly word-for-word from British politician Neil Kinnock.
11) Biden claimed his helicopter was “forced down” in enemy territory, but it was later learned that the flight was only postponed because of weather.
12) Biden looked at Missouri state senator Chuck Graham–seated in front of him–and demanded that he “Stand up!” without noticing that he was in a wheelchair.
13) Biden called Obama “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean…to run for President,” insulting Shirley Chisholm, Jesse Jackson, Carol Braun, and Al Sharpton.
14) Biden offended certain immigrants in Delaware by claiming, “You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”
15) Biden angrily challenged a sincere questioner by insisting, “My IQ higher than yours!”
16) Biden on poor D.C. school performance compared to Iowa: “There’s less than 1 percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4 or 5 percent that is, are minorities. What is it in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you’re dealing with.”
17) Biden, unaware that Hoover was President in 1929, many years before TV was invented: “When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed. He said, ‘look, here’s what happened.”‘
18) Biden slammed an Obama ad that mocked McCain for being “computer illiterate” without mentioning that it is McCain’s war injuries that inhibit him from using a keyboard. “I thought that (the ad) was terrible, by the way,” Biden said. Asked why it was done, he said: “I didn’t know we did it, and if I had anything to do with it, we’d have never done it.”
19) Delaware, he noted, was a “slave state that fought beside the North. That’s only because we couldn’t figure out how to get to the South. There were a couple of states in the way.”
20) Biden: “…a three letter word: J-O-B-S!”
21)Just after 9/11: “Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran.”
22) Forgot address of website he’s in charge of.

The Bob and Tom radio show got a call from ‘Biden’ this morning where he rambled on for quite some time about all the amazing things he’s done.
Did you know that when Biden’s helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan he was actually captured. He had to dig through over 300′ of rock with his belt buckle to escape.
His clothes were also all wet from swimming back to the Maersk Alabama after negotiating the Captain’s release last night.

Sociopath
A person with antisocial personality disorder. A sociopath is often well liked because of their charm and high charisma, but they do not care about other people. They think mainly of themselves and often blame others for the things that they do. They have a complete disregard for rules and lie constantly. They seldom feel guilt or learn from punishments.

Prime example of the MSM tainting “natural selection”. Had they reported/commented on Biden’s UMTEEN whopper lies in the Palin debate, he would have been completely discredited, and made the inexperienced Obama look like he made the WRONG decision, AND made that ticket look shaky at best.
marklmail on April 10, 2009 at 9:44 AM
What’s missing here is W’s response to all of this. One of his weaknesses during his administration was staying far too silent in the storm of raging critism of everything he did (or didn’t do).
Would love to see Dubyah step up to the plate and knock one out of the park. Come on, George, you can do it!
Sweet_Thang on April 10, 2009 at 9:44 AM
Being a compulsive liar is a mental illness that Biden has no hope of overcoming. The fact that Obama chose someone so intellectually challenged and so morally bankrupt to be the second in command for the leadership of our country removes all doubt he is unfit to be president.

Perhaps we should let him run with this narrative…
If he spent so much time with W, and STILL everything wetn to crap, then how effective exactly is Biden?
Perhaps since he spent so much time alone with W, maybe we could spin this that Biden was really in charge of the so-called Dick cheney was supposedly running?
Maybe W did take Bidens advice – and that’s why everything was so crapped up?
Just a thought…

I’m glad folks in the Bush administration are correcting untruths even though I think they will probably receive some push back. I think there are so many lies about the Bush administration and they couldn’t really set the record straight when he in the Oval Office and unpopular but now they are out they can start calling out the lies. I was watching Special Report the other day and they had story about how Obama had said that “Bush didn’t believe in global warming” and Bret noted that Bush did indeed believe in global warming (unfortunately). It might not seem like a big deal but I think it’s important not to misrepresent other people position. Just because Bush is unpopular it doesn’t make it alright to make up things about him.

He had too much class and dignity to lower himself to deal with pinhead Democrat liars like Biden when he was President and that class continues.
I agree that was a weakness, because the American people generally accepted the falsehoods the DNC and the DNC owned-media put out and that torpedoed his agenda.
To think that any President would waste two full hours on some irrelevant clown act Senator from a miniscule, reliably Democrat state like Deleware, is just laughable.
NoDonkey on April 10, 2009 at 10:25 AM

hawksruleva on April 10, 2009 at 10:27 AM
You have to admire Karl Rove. There’s one that you need to add to this list though: the famous Katie’s restaurant story, where he claimed that you could bump into him anytime at Home Depot or Katies’ Restaurant in Wilmington (I think it happened in the VP debate).
