President Pantywaist

posted at 12:55 pm on April 10, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Charles Krauthammer and Gerald Warner take up where Jackson Diehl left off in analyzing Barack Obama’s Grand Tour this month.  Both men sound warning alarms over Obama’s tendency to surrender large swaths of the American agenda in return for getting nothing at all.  And while Krauthammer wonders whether Obama has a sense of his own American identity, Warner wonders whether Obama has any sense at all.

First, Krauthammer:

Our president came bearing a basketful of mea culpas. With varying degrees of directness or obliqueness, Obama indicted his own people for arrogance, for dismissiveness and derisiveness, for genocide, for torture, for Hiroshima, for Guantanamo and for insufficient respect for the Muslim world.

And what did he get for this obsessive denigration of his own country? He wanted more NATO combat troops in Afghanistan to match the surge of 17,000 Americans. He was rudely rebuffed.

He wanted more stimulus spending from Europe. He got nothing.

From Russia, he got no help on Iran. From China, he got the blocking of any action on North Korea.

And what did he get for Guantanamo? France, pop. 64 million, will take one prisoner. One! (Sadly, he’ll have to leave his swim buddy behind.) The Austrians said they would take none. As Interior Minister Maria Fekter explained with impeccable Germanic logic, if they’re not dangerous, why not just keep them in America?

When Austria is mocking you, you’re having a bad week. Yet who can blame Frau Fekter, considering the disdain Obama showed his own country while on foreign soil, acting the philosopher-king who hovers above the fray mediating between his renegade homeland and an otherwise warm and welcoming world?

I thought that would win the Scorn Award for the week, but that’s just a warm-up for Warner.  The British columnist for the Telegraph has a new name for Obama — well, two, actually:

So The One retired triumphant, having secured a massive contribution of 5,000 extra troops – all of them non-combatant, of course – which must really have put the wind up the Taliban, at the prospect of 5,000 more infidel cooks and bottle-washers swarming into the less hazardous regions of Afghanistan.

Then came the dramatic bit, the authentic West Wing script, with the President wakened in the middle of the night in Prague to be told that Kim Jong-il had just launched a Taepodong-2 missile. America had Aegis destroyers tracking the missile and could have shot it down. But Uncle Sam had a sterner reprisal in store for l’il ole Kim (as Dame Edna might call him): a multi-megaton strike of Obama hot air. …

President Pantywaist is hopping mad and he has a strategy to cut Kim down to size: he is going to slice $1.4bn off America’s missile defence programme, presumably on the calculation that Kim would feel it unsporting to hit a sitting duck, so that will spoil his fun.

Watch out, France and Co, there is a new surrender monkey on the block and, over the next four years, he will spectacularly sell out the interests of the West with every kind of liberal-delusionist initiative on nuclear disarmament and sitting down to negotiate with any power freak who wants to buy time to get a good ICBM fix on San Francisco, or wherever. If you thought the world was a tad unsafe with Dubya around, just wait until President Pantywaist gets into his stride.

The White House says it will take more than a few days for Obama’s impact to be felt, but I think they’re underestimating their President.  Obama’s impact was plain to see.  He drew great crowds for his American Humility Tour, and it played well — as bowing and scraping always does to those whom one bows and scrapes.  Europe might like the whiff of surrender coming from Obama, but they made it plain that it would result in no movement on the American agenda.  Actually, that’s not entirely true; as Diehl points out, Obama mostly neglected to even mention the American agenda.

John Kennedy had the insight to realize that he blew his performance with Nikita Khrushchev in 1961.  Newt Gingrich allowed for the possibility that Obama might come to the same realization after this disaster of a foreign tour.  Will President Pantywaist recover, a la Kennedy, or wallow in the self-delusional spin his White House provided this week, a la Jimmy Carter?  Let’s hope it’s the former, because the world is far too dangerous a place for America to have a President Pantywaist.

Blowback

Does he ever intend to actually do any work?

DeweyWins on April 10, 2009 at 1:06 PM

Come on, do we really want him spending more time doing work? I don’t think the Republic could afford him spending more time in the White House and less time on tours like this.

If we really want to save the Republic, we ought to be thinking about more trips for POTUS and TOTUS. Maybe some place with a nice beach, rolling waves, away from everywhere. No cell phone or Blackberry service. Let him go to the beach and play, maybe taking Pelosi & Ried with him. Then maybe the adults could clean up the mess of the last 80 days.

Read some Scandinavian newspapers online this past week, they were all echoing what the Daily Telegraph wrote:

Obama’s Europe tour was a pathetic performance, and it left many observers deeply disappointed in the president.

Not even 100 days in, and the TOTUS is becoming an international joke.

Krauthammer wonders whether Obama has a sense of his own American identity

I have thought this all along. Because of his upbringing, I don’t think he has any sense of being a citizen of the United States. He is completely ambivilent towards the United States and being an Americant and, truth be told, he considers himself a citizen of the world – which of course he has said in many ways in many places.

Traffic Cop Timmy on April 10, 2009 at 1:59 PM

Since the Austrians are making fun of him we will give the German version of President Pantywaist:

Staatspräsident Schlappschwanz

Hawthorne on April 10, 2009 at 1:31 PM

CA Gov. Blackvexer promised Egyptian Sale campaign lies to fool the conservative vote. Next, the Shriver/Kennedy national connection produced Staatspräsident Schlappschwanz on lies meant to fool everyone, hence “the unifier”.

maverick muse on April 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM

Newt Gingrich allowed for the possibility that Obama might come to the same realization after this disaster of a foreign tour. Will President Pantywaist recover, a la Kennedy, or wallow in the self-delusional spin his White House provided this week, a la Jimmy Carter?

The trouble with this, as always, is the American press corps, who have treated and written up Obama’s EuroTrip as if it was the greatest foreign policy triumph since the Treaty of Ghent.

Theres no hint in any coverage that I have seen in the MSM (TV/radio/newspapers/lefty blogs) that Obama’s performance was any other than 100% Boffo. Just the opposite in fact, the media are crapping their pants with glee and excitement. So, dont look for any navel gazing by the OMSM.

Heh, yep. I guess when he said “all Americans” will have to work and sacrifice to get out of the financial mess were in it only applied to REAL Americans, just further proof he doesn’t consider himself a REAL American and hates America!

Not that we needed any further proof that he’s not a REAL American or that he hates America, after all his recent bash America tour and the fact he’s friends with the likes of Rev Wright and Ayers is proof enough! Yet 53% of Americans (you know…the morons) voted for this empty suited American hating fraud…!

We are in very deep shiite for sure!

What bothers me about labeling our president a pantywaist and a surrender monkey (excuse me I have to leave my office to laugh) is that this can only embolden our enemies and the terrorist groups we’re trying so hard to eliminate. What enrages me is our president should have taken this opportunity to build up our country and make us look like a pillar of strength and stability. Instead, he’s made himself a laughing stock by spreading his unicorns and lollipops and pixie dust policies. Great.

scalleywag on April 10, 2009 at 2:02 PM

The Apology Tour was not about getting America to be liked. It was only about him being liked. He doesn’t care if America is more or less reviled as a result of his Ankle Tour (as opposed to Hillary’s Cankle Tour).

I think he’s shocked that he’s being made fun of. If the Brits have their blades out, the French and Germans will soon follow. If the Brits are already using the M-word, one can only imagine what the Continentals are going to say.

Can’t wait!

I make a gentleman’s bet (no dough) that Jackie HATED the Camelot image that would have implied HER sexual infidelity rather than her husband’s, when it was HIS indiscreet escapades, particularly with Marilyn Monroe, that Jackie endured.

maverick muse on April 10, 2009 at 1:29 PM

Actually, it was Jackie who initiated the whole “Camelot” crap. In an article in Life (IIRC) magazine, after JFK’s death, she favorably compared his administration to the myth. Jackie was determined to burnish JFK’s memory, as she feared that he would be forgotten by history due to the short duration (and relatively few accomplishments) of his administration. But I doubt that even Jackie could have foreseen how the MSM would so willingly adopt her fanciful narrative and continue to perpetrate and embellish it for so many years.

Strong, intellectually and strategically daring (as usual) article by Caroline Glick on the implications of Obama’s “emasculation” of American strategy – definitely should have been a headline item IMO. Well worth reading in its entirety, here’s what it leads up to:

to survive the current period of American strategic madness, Israel and the US’s other unwanted allies must build alliances with one another – covertly if need be – to contain their adversaries in the absence of America. If they do so successfully, then the damage to global security induced by Obama’s emasculation of his country will be limited. If on the other hand, they fail, then America’s eventual return to its senses will likely come too late for its allies – if not for America itself.

I hope the electorate might learn something from this experience, and demand its candidates offer specific policy positions, instead of empty crticism of their predecessors and airy greeting card slogans. Elections are inevitably emotional contests in the age of TV, but the voters have a responsibility to demand concrete positions from their candidates. You can’t blame the candidates for trying to coast into office by peddling syrup and giving a few rousing speeches, but you can blame the voters for letting them get away with it.

Really? Does anyone else remember the Obama campaign speech where he promised to have a less muscular foreign policy? Or where he promised to make groveling apologies to every world leader he could wrangle an audience with? All I recall on the topic of foreign policy from Dear Leader was a lot of empty rhetoric about having a “smarter” foreign policy. Apparently “smarter” foreign policy means approaching the international community like a scrawny, frightened nerd on the first day of school, who hopes he won’t be beaten up for his lunch money.

I also missed the campaign speech where he promised to address violent attacks on American citizens by faithfully watching TV news reports for the duration of the crisis, interrupted only by the occasional retreat to a schoolyard for a quiet peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Contrast this:

“President Roosevelt; what about the Perdicaris situation in Morocco?”

“Perdicaris alive or Raisuli dead”

with:

“President 0bama; What about the pirates that have taken an American ship?

“We are dealing with housing today.”

LegendHasIt on April 10, 2009 at 4:18 PM

President Pantywaist
Surrender Monkey

This would be GREAT, but this asshat is representing America and her interests all over the world.

Can you say ‘Impeach both the Surrender Monkey AND The Vice Fibber’? No, then we have Nancy Pelosi.
Ugh.

Kind of surprised there isn’t going to be one in Alamogordo.

You would think, right. Thanks for the info. May have to take a drive up there. Much more beautiful than Las Cruces and they have Michalinas.

People voted for more internationalism and a less muscular foreign policy…deal with it. You LOST.

DeathToMediaHacks on April 10, 2009 at 2:24 PM

The vast majority of people who voted for this clown act, do not have a vocabulary that would include seven syllable words, so that can’t possibly be it.

Face it, they voted for the media trumpeted, pleasant enough looking, well-spoken black man.

9 out of 10 Obama voters had no idea what the guy stood for or what was on his half-page resume and that’s those who weren’t voting illegally for the guy (thanks ACORN!).

to how many pecs of pickling pirates did precedent pantywaist

Arugula eating surrender monkey. I like it.

I’ve been out all day doing my part for global warming, helping my neighbor burn off his switch grass and my ditch, so this comment is late. It’s great to see at least someone in the media calling this joke of a president for what he is, a true candy ass and anti American. When he was elected I truly believed that we could survive 4 years of this joke of a leader, but now I am getting worried. Can America survive?

kam582 on April 10, 2009 at 5:38 PM

The upshot of the Obama European Tour is to say:

“You gotta figure it out on your own… you’re the leaders now… I’m too important to be bothered by little things like learning about your problems or caring about you… I don’t care about your pesky languages… your unassimilated muslim importee problem isn’t mine and might solve that too many languages deal… don’t get into another world war now… lets have a rousing Kumbaya all around… don’t call us, we’ll call you… lets do lunch some time… hope that Russia place can keep my caviar supply up… my people will contact yours… whats your Facebook ident?”

That is the only positive thing: Old Europe has gotten JUST what it has ALWAYS wanted.

They forgot to be careful what they wished for.

ajacksonian on April 10, 2009 at 5:45 PM

Is this a case of chickens coming home to roost? Hey, there are people living in America who would gladly inflict the same policies on us. It could happen anywhere.

AbaddonsReign on April 10, 2009 at 5:46 PM

Pantywaist is a bit too mild. He undermines American security and the US economy. Who’s side is he on? Not America’s, it seems.

Now, tell him that the leaders of Iran, Hamas, Russia, China, North Korea, etc., are Republicans, and the coward’s disdain will be up front and out loud.

BottomLine5 on April 10, 2009 at 6:19 PM

he sounds like the king of some other country , blame america for every thing.his town hall meetings look more like a game show give me a kit. give me house, a give me a tv. you know what i would like a president who would give me the constitution 24/7 not socialism and thats just a nice word for communist.

I hope to see that same arrogant certainty from you when your less muscular foreign policy leads to people dying because we are perceived to be weak enough to victimize, nancy-boy. Be sure you stand up and say: “I voted for less muscular foreign policy, and I admit that the blood of these people is on my hands.” But you won’t, will you? You’ll more likely say: “It’s Bush’s fault!” Coward.

austinnelly on April 10, 2009 at 6:51 PM

Latest news flash-after saying he would do so, President Panty has wimped out and will not be throwing out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals home opener on Monday.

This breaks a Presidential tradition dating back to 1910.

Knowing his IQ, I’m guessing he mistakenly confused “pitch” with “bitch”, and thought they were going to make him throw Michelle out of the stadium.

The latter. Have you ever heard Ackbar say anything positive about the US?

onlineanalyst on April 10, 2009 at 9:43 PM

If you spend all your time denigrating the US then why should anybody want to buy in to anything the US wants? What kind of salesman denigrates his product while asking you to buy?

{^_^}

Agree with earlier comment. Obama will prove to the world how tough he is when it comes to dealing with dissenting Americans who fight his push towards Socialist Fascism. The press is playing up the recent shootings around America for a reason.
