Newest source of left’s pretend fear/outrage: Tea parties
posted at 5:03 pm on April 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
Link via Ace, who seems willing to believe the fear is genuine. Maybe that’s true for the dimmer bulbs among them but for most I’m sure this is standard calculated faux-horror designed to frame the event as suspect, illegitimate, and otherwise unsuitable for mainstream political consumption. Kind of like how Olbermann is forever referring to the “far right” or the “fringe right.” For people who claim to object so profoundly to the politics of fear, they sure are good at it.
Anyway, Legal Insurrection previews the tedious, inevitable nutroots reaction to next week’s rallies:
The Huffington Post is organizing “citizen journalists” to attend the protests, allegedly to “report.” Which means that they will try to find someone in a crowd who says something stupid, will post it on the internet, and build an argument around it trying to demonize the movement. And left-wing bloggers will react in unison like dogs responding to a whistle, about the “dangerous” and “violent” and “racist” tea parties. This tactic is as old as time; or at least as old as the internet.
Follow the link to Ace up top for the latest on the scourge of insidious “anti-Obama activities” that are destroying our country from within. Meanwhile, here’s a video — swiped from a different post of Ace’s — by Andrew Klavan, the guy responsible for the Limbaugh challenge. I don’t know what made me think of adding it to a post about fake liberal outrage.
Update: The boss was all over this days ago:
It’s already happened once before — at the Denver anti-porkulus rally last month, when the Media Matters/Daily Kos crowd shifted media attention away from the policy message by manufacturing fake outrage about some stunt-puller who showed up with a sign comparing Obama to Hitler that I didn’t see and asked for a picture. The local newspaper, the Rocky Mountain News, took the bait…
As Beckel signaled, leftists are going to use fear-mongering to paint mainstream taxpayers who believe in the Second Amendment, the Constitution, limited government, low taxes, and fiscal responsibility as fringe wackos. They have already exploited the Binghamton and Pittsburgh shooting sprees for political gain. They have no shame. Be prepared. Confront them with their own rank hypocrisy and unhingedness. Don’t get distracted. And don’t let your local media get away with lazily recycling their smears.

If the Kristi you’re referring is the beautiful lady I’ve been married to for the past 30 years, let me add this.
She holds black belts in (3) different styles; holds a masters degree in Architecture; has held positions on the AIA board in (2) States for several years; has volunteered for every position ever created in Boy Scouts for the past 12 years; acted as GM of a youth football league in Ca. that enjoyed the membership of over 1,200 kids; sponsored a “scout for food” program that raised over 4,000 pounds of food for charity organizations, and remains involved with this program to this day; is a crack shot with a deer rifle; loves to backpack and hike; is responsible for designing and engineering several “green” projects in several states; designs “off the grid” homes here in Montana; and is the loving mother of our (2) sons.
If you match up to those ingredients, then I tip my hat to you and wish you well.

Just get to the Tea Party Protest near you. They are just trying to frame these as protests by militant racists and that it is wrong for you to do it because it is against TOTUS.
Case in point is capitulus. This fool has been on this thread since the begining yesterday. First it was that we were being hypocritical to protest. Then it was that we were hatemongers. Finally, last night it was just “silly”. The amazing thing is that if the fool thinks it is so silly, why keep coming back and posting about your opposition to it?
I mean if it is just “silly” why would you just not ignore it and let us all make fools of ourselves? Obviously these protests are getting a reaction, which proves their value. Let’em bitch and just show up on Tuesday.

The PC police will increase the volume of “Shut Up” at Tea Party speeches.
Also, PC police do no know how to tolerate true opposition except to try to shut them up. So have fun and start them in a “Shut Up” match. “Shut up” no you “Shut up” no you “Shut up” until they get frustrated and walk away unhappy because they did no get their way. When you see them again offer them a crying towel, white of course so they can easily surrender the next time.

That’s debatable lately. If you disagree with the far Right you are villified. Like the Far Left they want a lockstep collective.
Read the comments here on any day of the week when Allah blogs about something they think is inappropriate to their collective view.
AprilOrit on April 11, 2009 at 11:10 AM
When will Obama supporters realize they have been had?
Sullivan is railing that tea parties are full of crap because they never protested Medicare expansion under Bush. Okay. I remember a few conservatives protesting that, but fair to say not enough. And if you disagree with the Iraq war, well that spending is significant. But the elephant in the room is the MASSIVE increase that has just taken place (adjusted for inflation). It is unprecidented.
So when will they acknowledge that level of spending?
I suspect never.

Got here late and have read this page and up to 1/2 way through page 3, so I don’t think I missed much.
Getting the attention of our elected officials with a movement such as this is as easy as it was to shut off the open borders bill that was coming out of DC last year. They want to be re-elected. The problem as I see it is trying to get them to do anything proactive to protect and defend the traditional American family. They always want to throw money (not theirs) at it as the only solution, much of it ending up in their pockets! Is there a pattern here?
So, let’s try a novel concept of shrinking the size of government. We keep adding more and more lefty bureaucrats who are not elected. There’s another big issue.
These missing links lumber around and litter the halls of every government agency looking to be the sole arbiter of policy and procedures which were never meant to be when passed by the legislature. If we are going to demand change then that shrinkage must be one of the yardsticks by which we measure progress.
Now if any politician wants to clean up DC, he must immediately go after the closeted departmental subversives that bend the law to their a priori world outlook. Boot the bastards out and put ‘em back in the real world. My Sign:

The left blogs wish for this to be a racist event. What’s cute is that their citizen journalists can’t help but take footage, and it’s all about taxes. They are making hay off of the birthers, though.
Here’s an even better story, though. HuffPo posted the ASU honorary story yesterday, and within minutes the death threats came rolling in from the Obamafans. Hence, ASU changed their minds.
It’s hilarious. Need more proof over the hate-mongering that blog produces?
Won’t Obama be proud of THAT honorary degree? *hehe
I’m laughing. He didn’t mind the booing at his rallies. He pretended he couldn’t do much about it.
Now, it’s boomerang time. How humiliating for him to be given an “honor” all due to the hate-filled fans of his.

So much for “adapt or die.”
Jim Treacher on April 11, 2009 at 3:34 PM
Being one of the “far right”, I would strongly disagree with this. People are not villified for merely disagreeing on any topic. There are a few central issues that hold the fate of our Republic (such as amnesty) and people who take the wrong position on these topics are villified – and rightfully so.
I don’t see anything lockstep about the right, outside of the resistance to ideas on these aforementioned core issues that put our nation at grave risk.
I think you misunderstand what I mean by “collectivism”. Just because I might agree with other people about some issue does not make us collectivists. Collectivism has to do with how one sees society being organized – the US Constitution defines the individual as the fundamental political entity while Euro parliamentary systems define the party as the fundamental political entity.
All Americans (who love the Constitution) should agree and champion this individualistic notion of governance, but that does not make us collectivists. That just puts us in independent agreement.

Klavan seems to get the idea that Net Neutrality is “leftist ideology” over the reality of it – to make sure that things don’t go back to the days of Compuserve.
Perhaps he’d do well to correct himself or disclose his sponsor that wants that message played.

Hi. What in the world are you talking about?
Jim Treacher on April 11, 2009 at 4:25 PM
Oh, yeah. The wave of the future. The funny thing is, though, that even with the “economic collapse”, an ineffective moderate opponent, and a sycophantic media, Obama could only garner a tad over a majority of the votes. You do the math.

Klavan’s inclusion of “Net Neutrality” as a “leftist means to tell people to shut up”. Never mind that it is written to prevent the activity of limiting speech to a few “walled gardens” of speech.

My point is demographic and cultural evolution are changing the political landscape.
There are fewer old ppl and fewer evangelical xians every year.
More states will legalize SSM.
No states will criminalize abortion.
Young people are moving into the 18 to 29 bracket, and young people don’t vote republican. You are so profoundly culture-deaf that you named your big protest after a sex act!! lol.
Old ppl are moving out of the 65+ bracket in coffins.

I don’t know why commentary has drifted to the Census, but it appears to me it’s now a political thing as opposed to information gathering.
Like all things Government, 10 years ago I had to repeatedly, almost endlessly ask numerous takers to leave my premises. Another creepy chapter, but one I deferred from always, not just now.
For me, it’s a privacy thing. They already have my Social, my address and my corresponding dependent info. Why do they want to come into my house and interview me?
I think – no thanks. I don’t rely on the Government for anything but a huge deduction from my bi-weekly pay. They have what they need already.
seesalrun on April 11, 2009 at 7:50 PM
Great video.
But I’m a bit confused about one point. What does Net Neutrality have to do with shutting up Conservatives? I am VERY familiar with Net Neutrality and all the arguments (both good and bad) behind it and it is IN NO WAY an attempt to tell conservatives to “shut up”. If anything it’s an attempt to STOP ANYONE from saying “Shut Up” to ANYONE. How the hell does that serve Liberal “Shut Up” interests? Oh yeah, IT DOESN’T.
Klavan is just undermining his whole argument with the anti-Net Neutrality bit.
wearyman on April 11, 2009 at 8:47 PM
Your type belongs over at Stormfront and by you posting that statement about a black congress person makes this blog look bad, really bad. You only play into the hands of those who read these comments and call us all racists.
Actually, it is the Black Caucus, which won’t let Whites in, which flies over to see Castro for a warm visit, that votes racially, that is shameful. Want more examples? Watching a black ACORN member break into a house to seize it, committing an act of Breaking and Entering on camera, when blacks already commit over half of the violent crimes in this Country, sent exactly the wrong message and had the opposite effect that ACORN was trying to achieve. No more houses were seized, ACORN was snapped back, and the Country started Arming itself. Good Job!
On the more general question of being racially aware, proud of one’s race, of one’s History and wanting to protect it and have your children sing the songs of your ancestors, this is a very deep feeling in most Whites. The very word “Nation” comes from the Latin, Natio: to be Born. We don’t talk about it as much, but we take quiet pride in people like J.R.R.Tolkin, Ben Franklin, Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Magellan and thousands of great names going back to Greek.

Oh, gee. Someone complained about evolution. I’m willing to bet that your own understanding of general evolutionary theory is wanting, as is true for most people – Charles included. I get a kick out of people who like to defend things they don’t understand. It’s all very Al Gore-ish of you and Charles. BTW, I am a proponent of the relevancy of general evolutionary theory and its biological applications, but I can’t stand the loons who like to think they are arguing for biological evolution when they have no concept of what they are speaking about.

Did you support Dave Letterman when he used to crush things with a steamroller on TV, or did you raise bloody hell about that? I thought a lot of it was quite funny, but then you would have to scream that I want to steamroll all sorts of things. This is about the same … unless you thought that there was some movement to actually burn all books about evolution. I don’t know. Maybe you do think that.
How about some perspective? I know that’s asking a bit much, but just a little would help.

Like Johnson does.
If they are part of your party, fine, own them. Its ok to burn books on evolution, w/e.
If not, throw them out.
strangelet on April 12, 2009 at 3:21 PM
“call them out”? Come on. One lady doesn’t like evolution. Big friggin’ deal. And the transcript that Charles posted has one of the guys there challenging her. So Charles is making a big deal out of this. Great. That’s really important work. As I said to April, I doubt that Charles Johnson knows much of anything about evolutionary theory, except that he thinks it makes him sound smart if he contends that it must be true and sets out to demonize everyone who disagrees.
It’s okay for people to burn whatever books they want to, so long as they own the books. Why do you have a problem with this?
She was right about the brainwashing that happens in college, but a little off-base on the evolution part. So what?
Who am I to “throw them out”? I’m not Charles Johnson, after all, who has written many important papers on the mechanisms of biological evolution and speciation … Hasn’t he?
Like I said, people cheered Letterman running a steamroller over all sorts of things. Tell me how that is so different. And Letterman did it on national TV, not in some little tea party where a guy with a video phone captured a moment.
Like I said. Perspective. Get some.
