Finally: Billy Bob Thornton interviews Joaquin Phoenix
posted at 4:00 pm on April 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
I think Billy Bob’s the one doing the interviewing, but it’s hard to tell. If ever there was a skit whose humor lay entirely in its concept, with no need of actual performance, it’s this one, but the Joaquin Phoenix impersonation had me cracking up anyway. Not sure why — any guy with a beard and a pair of sunglasses should be able to hug himself and look distracted — but darned if they didn’t nail it.
You’ll pleased to know that BBT’s band took the stage last night in Ontario, as promised, notwithstanding the train wreck heard ’round the world. The performance … didn’t go that well.

Blowback

This reminds of more than a few dates I’ve had.
lorien1973 on April 10, 2009 at 4:04 PM
You are funny. This is really an Obama Cabinet meeting.
faraway on April 10, 2009 at 4:05 PM
“Celebutards” comes to mind…
Or is that term banned now too?
ornery_independent on April 10, 2009 at 4:10 PM
It’s now Celebturds
kirkill on April 10, 2009 at 4:11 PM
Very funny. Nice post.
Dr. Manhattan on April 10, 2009 at 4:13 PM
Dang… that was quick…
Skywise on April 10, 2009 at 4:15 PM
That’s great. JP and BBT gotta be pulling a PR stunt, aren’t they ?

+1. I was laughing before I started the video.

Yes
Mark1971 on April 10, 2009 at 4:21 PM
Again, I feel the need to repost my comment from an AP post:
With Ed posting in the morning and Allah posting at night, I wake up smart and go to bed stupid.
It truly is an endless cycle.
iamse7en on April 10, 2009 at 4:22 PM
Kind of reminds me of Ellis Hennigan interviewing Bob Beckel (with a beard)…
Nelsa on April 10, 2009 at 4:22 PM
Sorry faraway but I believe you’re mistaken on this one as they were much too coherent and based in reality for it to be an Obambi cabinet meeting!
Liberty or Death on April 10, 2009 at 4:23 PM
Kind of reminds me of Lenny Dykstra when he was a guest on Bulls and Bears a few years ago.
Hummer53 on April 10, 2009 at 4:27 PM
I’m sorry, but this is better
Kini on April 10, 2009 at 4:28 PM
Terrific.
Allahpundit on April 10, 2009 at 4:29 PM
Meh…..If Dennis Hopper can go from shroom eating nekkid desert hobo to a hang-em-high redneck then there is hope for anyone.
Limerick on April 10, 2009 at 4:30 PM
That’s the Red State guys?
peacenprosperity on April 10, 2009 at 4:31 PM
You should know, that was a compliment to your posts. I look forward to when you starting posting, every day. I wake up depressed, and go to bed laughing. Thank you, sir.
iamse7en on April 10, 2009 at 4:34 PM
Yep, the gag writes itself…like so much of real life these days.
AUINSC on April 10, 2009 at 4:34 PM
Oops! peacenprosperity beat me to it. That’s Dunlap playing Billy Bob and Jackie Broyles as Phoenix.
kozmocostello on April 10, 2009 at 4:35 PM
Oh come on. AP’s posts are great. That they inspire such comments back and forth tell you they are. Don’t have to agree all the time.
When you get mad at him, just head to the headlines and bust on his dating life (or lack thereof) and you’ll feel better.
Blog would not be the same if AP weren’t around.
lorien1973 on April 10, 2009 at 4:35 PM
That is just terrible, awful, just not right, mean spirited, wrong…and funny as all get out.
right2bright on April 10, 2009 at 4:35 PM
Hey AP, it is getting late, where is your Palin post…we’re waiting…whoops, there it is in the headlines, right on time.
right2bright on April 10, 2009 at 4:37 PM
I’d rather be stupid and laughing than smart and depressed though. I love AP. I just wish I knew his real name.
iamse7en on April 10, 2009 at 4:39 PM
I dunno, but he writes “Future Mr McCain” on his notebooks in school. :P
lorien1973 on April 10, 2009 at 4:39 PM
Why is everyone always picking on AP, just because he’s a beta-male? I say shame on all of you…
Happy Easter AP…ooops, er, uh, I meant Happy Bunny Day…or whatever holiday athiests are having this Sunday!
*slinks off to eat his peeps*
Liberty or Death on April 10, 2009 at 4:41 PM
No, you go to bed happy because AP, with one brief post and video, just erased all the bad sh!t that goes on day-after-day from your memory. So, you should be both informed and happy.
Thanks AP, that was too funny!
CliffHanger on April 10, 2009 at 4:44 PM
Rabbit stew?
Limerick on April 10, 2009 at 4:44 PM
C’mon folks…AP posts a hilarious video we probably wouldn’t even know about if he hadn’t posted it and some of you are jabbing him even here. Just enjoy the gift.
AUINSC on April 10, 2009 at 4:48 PM
When you give idiots a lot of money, Joaquin and Billy Bob are the result. Well at least they’re not hurting anyone.
baldilocks on April 10, 2009 at 4:49 PM
No, just me. However, I really didn’t mean to jab, because I really do love his posts.
iamse7en on April 10, 2009 at 4:49 PM
My Ed and Allah cycle usually consists of morning harmony and evening frustration, respectively.

This sort of comment is popping up with an uncomfortable frequency lately.
DaveS on April 10, 2009 at 4:50 PM
That made me miss Twin Peaks.
ultraloser on April 10, 2009 at 4:51 PM
This is a brain.
This is a brain (fried) on Hollywood.
Any questions?

I’ve noticed.
lorien1973 on April 10, 2009 at 4:54 PM
Think we’ll figure out Allah’s name the same way George, Jerry, and Elaine found out Kramer’s name?
iamse7en on April 10, 2009 at 4:55 PM
hahaha
Are you sure that isnt Michael Savage under those shades?
becki51758 on April 10, 2009 at 5:00 PM
You’ll miss me when I’m gone.
Allahpundit on April 10, 2009 at 5:04 PM
BS, AP. You ain’t goin’ nowhere. And wherever you go, we’ll follow you. Atheists go to heaven, right?
iamse7en on April 10, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Heh, but is it KILLER bunny stew?
Liberty or Death on April 10, 2009 at 5:08 PM

Kini on April 10, 2009 at 5:12 PM
Color me skeptical on that claim.
This site has a long history of AP bashing, whether it be his audacity to post a Paris Hilton thread, or using freaky-deaky in a title. It’s a constant part of the background.
Spirit of 1776 on April 10, 2009 at 5:13 PM
lmfao
notagool on April 10, 2009 at 5:15 PM
Dont go. Who will give us freaky japanese cyborgs and humping robots. What about the “DUDES”. This site is like those frosted mini wheats. Eds post really get me thinking But the kid in me looks forward to the Allah posts.
Greed on April 10, 2009 at 6:27 PM
Yeah, but it really started picking up as the election neared, and it’s been peaking in the months since. ODS is taking hold.
MadisonConservative on April 10, 2009 at 6:50 PM
Maybe. I think it cycles with open registration + ban hammer.
I think if banned some of the mysogenists and r’s=white trash commenters the general temper of the threads would tamper down. But AP’s pretty libertarian about those things.
Spirit of 1776 on April 10, 2009 at 7:00 PM
Well, I understand where you’re coming from, but you got it wrong. Since AP posts at night, you go to bed stupid, therefore you wake up stupid, but during the day you’re a Catholic.
keep the change on April 10, 2009 at 7:17 PM
I meant that people are feeling a need to defend you with an uncomfortable frequency… :-)
DaveS on April 10, 2009 at 7:25 PM
Joaquin has to poop and Billy Bob organized the photos for uploading. LOL!
kahall on April 10, 2009 at 8:23 PM
Where’s the content warning, AP? You got a lot of parents out here.
jgapinoy on April 10, 2009 at 9:22 PM
All I heard was the ‘S’ word…pretty tame stuff in this day and age. I wouldn’t have thought anything about posting this, even with kids around.
AUINSC on April 10, 2009 at 9:42 PM
Now they just need to team up with Crispin Glover and Tracy Morgan and fight crime.

I’m thinking they could fight pirates!

Wow. The Phoenix impression is great but what blows me away is the timbre of his voice — it’s dead-on.
