Great news: Meghan McCain lands book deal in the “high six figures”

Dude, her first book was a picture book. Seriously.
John McCain’s 24-year-old daughter Meghan has a book deal! Sources say Hyperion has prevailed over at least three other publishers in an auction that began earlier this week, following a round of meetings during which the in-your-face young conservative and the literary agent she shares with her father, Sterling Lord Literistic president Flip Brophy, discussed a number of possible approaches to the book with editors around town…
While we haven’t quite nailed down what Ms. McCain’s book will be about—no one at Hyperion nor Ms. Brophy returned calls this afternoon—but if her recent columns for Tina Brown and Barry Diller’s Web site The Daily Beast are any indication, it will probably have something to do with the future of the Republican party, and how it must change to attract the votes of modern young people.
Is this going to be where she finally dishes about her barely concealed antipathy to Palin? Skip ahead to the end of this clip from last night’s Campbell Brown and watch her duck a question about whether the ‘Cuda’s someone she could even conceivably support. I’m pre-ordering my copy today! In related news, look for my own book, “Strange New Respect: How the Right Almost Tricked Me into Doubting Socialism,” to hit stores next year after I start writing it tonight.

Is it wrong of me to think that if she lost 15 lbs I’d so hit that?
angryed on April 10, 2009 at 8:00 AM
McCain will be judged by his daughter, regardless of what she writes.
Meghan should take care not to frame herself as a wealthy but stupid, liberally progressive Libertine in her “Really I’m Not” book of distractions.
She resembles Obama in that they feign to be other than whole cloth empty suits. Obama sold his stories penned by Ayers. Meghan McCain will sell her soul penned as progressive.
Meghan McCain and Michael Steele make a cooperative pair of progressive numbskulls. As per the RNC, what the hell is Steele up to besides passing around surveys to plot his future direction based upon his premise that the GOP offers minorities NADA. Coupling Steele’s message with McCain’s will formalize the RINO Party; let them run that.
Meanwhile, Conservatism has traction.

Hey, the Dems have their know-nothing that wrote his autobiography before he had actually, you know done anything. Why can we have ours?

All she has to do is bash conservatives and Palin. I’m sure libs will buy it.

Breaker Breaker ten-four good buddy. I forgot you can also sucker all the readers at Hot Air to vote you in as President twice when your born into the club.
True_King on April 10, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Given the morbid obesity rates in red states and the backwoods demographic of this site, I would suspect that many of you ‘conservatives’ and/or your significant others are a bit portly yourselves.
But no matter, grab your flags with your pudgy fingers and keep waving – it’s good exercise.
Safety tip: If you find yourself sweating profusely while at one of your little Tea Parties, try to sit down as soon as possible. Otherwise, you might die.
Be strong.

I’m sure she’ll put everything she knows into it.
Bound to be a short book. Maybe a novella?
hawksruleva on April 10, 2009 at 10:07 AM
The #1 sign that you’re a liberal media darling – big book deals for books that won’t sell.
hawksruleva on April 10, 2009 at 10:08 AM
NO! PLEASE NO! That would mean President Meghan McCain! Don’t do it!
hawksruleva on April 10, 2009 at 10:11 AM
Pretty girl, and she seems like a sweetheart despite all the controversy. She’s pretty shallow and naive, though, and it’s too bad she’s allowing herself to be used by the left in order to bash the GOP. Looks like she’ll have to find out the hard way what they really think of her.

Being a Democrat pays these days.

Her vacuousness is only surpassed by her ridiculousness. I believe there are people out there who fawn over said vacuous rantings. These are the brain dead females who watch “The View”, Sissy-Mary’s, and the idiot youth of this country whom vote for Oslime-a and people like McShamnesty, not because he was the lesser of two evils, but because they are RINO morons whom think he is THE answer to America’s ills.
Thank goodness that Americans are starting to wake up and take action. The Tea Parties, etc, are all encouraging signs. It’s too bad that the republicans aren’t leading the charge.

All that criticism from an idiot libtard whose teeth are encrusted with donkey shit and breath that smells like a portapotty on a construction site in Las Vegas in July.
You stink! Get a wire brush and scrub the shit from between your teeth. Then perhaps a box, no TWO boxes of Tic-Tacs to abate the stench a bit.

Who do you think she is, Lisa Murkowski?

I doubt that I will buy Meghan’s book. But I would buy Marine Jimmy McCain’s book about his service in Iraq. Would a book deal be done for that? Probably not. It would be a patriotic book, as Marine Jimmy McCain has continued a tradition in his family of military service very much in harm’s way, and the liberals in the publishing industry are not into patriotism. Maybe Meghan will reflect on that before she writes whatever she does.

Some suggested titles:
“Kiss My Fat Ass”
“I Hate Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham”
“I Am Not a Pork Barrel Project”
“RINO++”
“McCain v2.0″

She’s just another “Blame Republicans First” liberal. Ignore her, and she’ll eventually go away.
JohnJ on April 10, 2009 at 11:31 AM
She’s just incredibly young, that’s all. Her ideal Republican party would probably be Democrats dressed nicely. :)
AnninCA on April 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Just to clarify, many people have bought into the ideology that anything bad that happens is the result of “our” not being perfect. This is the way liberals treat America, and it’s the way the McCains, the Brooks, the Noonans et al treat the Republican party, and it’s the same way a battered wife excuses her batterer’s behavior. There are a couple of problems with this approach, which should be fairly obvious. One, “we” will never be perfect, whether “we” are America, the GOP, or the battered wife, which means anything and everything “they” ever do to “us” will be “our” fault. Secondly, this standard is only ever applied to “us” and never to “them”. Palestinians bear no responsibility for attacking Israel. Terrorists bear no responsibility for attacking America. And certainly no Democrat should ever be criticized, because it’s always “our” fault “they” don’t love “us”.
This is exactly the way they think.
JohnJ on April 10, 2009 at 11:43 AM
I, like, so don’t care.
ErinF on April 10, 2009 at 11:47 AM
What has Megan McCain EVER done to deserve even a pittance of the attention she’s getting?
I’m sorry – but receiving a fortuitous solitary sperm from John McCain is not reason enough for all this attention.
HondaV65 on April 10, 2009 at 11:52 AM
Somebody needs to send a memo to the “15 minutes of fame” dept. and remind them that her time it up.
rockhead on April 10, 2009 at 11:56 AM
So you are into chubby partners… color me surprised.
Bradky on April 10, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Oh, stuff it! She has enjoyed the American Dream all her life. Her mother is worth millions. She has never held a real job in her life. The chubby bimbo is making money off bashing conservatives. You in all your idiocy are saying we have no right to object. Get real.
Blake on April 10, 2009 at 11:59 AM
She’s young and blond with a famous last name. The high six figures isn’t that much money for a publishing company given how much free advertising she’s demonstrated that she can garner.
Additionally, she’s found a niche where there currently isn’t much media competition, a young socially moderate Republican.
dedalus on April 10, 2009 at 12:04 PM
Take a blood pressure pill. Are you saying her mother should have those millions taken away? Or is that just bitter jealousy on your part? If you think it should be taken you are lined up nicely with the Dems, if the bitter jealousy fits better I feel sorry for you.
And of course the name calling from someone getting hysterical – where did I say you have no right to object?
Okay let’s try again — breathe deeply three times, think Meghan, measure your pulse rate, breathe deeply, repeat until you can successfully control your reaction.
There isn’t that better?
Bradky on April 10, 2009 at 12:06 PM
Tell AP that. *ducks*
Snowed In on April 10, 2009 at 12:09 PM
As Gomer used to say, “Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!!!”
You wondered what she was up to with all her dissing of Conservatism and MSM suck-up-ism.
Now you know. Tilling/trolling the notoriety field in preparation for a profit windfall on a book that (Surprise!!!) I’m not going to buy.
What a transparent mutt.
pabarge on April 10, 2009 at 12:13 PM
What could this silly, brainless girl possible have to say that would be worth 2 figures, much less 6?
Jenfidel on April 10, 2009 at 12:15 PM
Take some arsenic. You are the one who stated that she was enjoying the American Dream as if she has struggled without for all her widdle life. She hasn’t. She has had everything handed to her. My post was clear. That you felt a need to misinterpret it, is just proof that you are an idiot.
Oh, can it, dipwit! You were the one chiding people complaining about her, with your dumb statement that all we had to do is not buy her stupid book. It will be better and the IQ of the blog will rise 10 points when you go back to Kos or DU or what ever rock you came under.

McShamnsty’s daughter is soooo vacuous, that when someone called her a RINO, she though they were calling her fat.
csdeven on April 10, 2009 at 12:38 PM
I’d like to be a fly on the wall at these publishers to see the thinking in how they will get 6 figures out of a book by 24 year old Meghan McCain. Everything I read shows she doesn’t understand things outside of a 24 year old valley girl’s perspective. She seems to think if we convert to the Columbia educated pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion the problems for the party will be solved. She completely sees whole swaths of the country being in her demopgraphic. Very few people outside of 20 something females preoccupy themselves with keeping abortion a back door to their sexual activity or care about whether 2% of the population get to have a legal piece of paper that says they are a couple. I can’t even imagine how this strings out to a book that people will pay for.
Conan on April 10, 2009 at 1:04 PM
Maybe we should refer to it as “Battered Conservative Syndrome”.
Not that the McCains are conservative, but it would certainly be one way to explain their behavior.
JohnJ on April 10, 2009 at 1:16 PM
For the McCains, maybe Stockholm Syndrome is a better explanation.
JohnJ on April 10, 2009 at 1:19 PM
It’s actually more of a “phamphet” of her favorite Conservatives.
hawkdriver on April 10, 2009 at 1:19 PM
So does AP. Except for him it would be Yale educated pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, etc.
Blake on April 10, 2009 at 1:40 PM
Would I be overboard in using the term “consummate” hypocrite in describing this one? Perhaps we should both be exiled to the same irregular society.
hawkdriver on April 10, 2009 at 1:56 PM
I’ll go back to one of my original points. Why this liberal “Republican” Why now? Sure her daddy has something to do with it. But she’s 24-years-old and has done nothing with her life but attack the real GOP in media interviews. If the media really wanted to to fill this niche instead of finding a whore to attack Republicans under the guise of “reform” they should seek out some 24-year-old soldier who has served in combat, or a 24-year-old who is part of the America Teaches program… an individual who does more with their lives than this neer-do-well moron is plump enough to arouse the chubby chasers.

Dr Evil on April 10, 2009 at 2:37 PM
This book will do in the publication world what a complete bomb of a Hollywood movie does in the film-making world: go straight to DVD (i.e. go straight to the landfill?)
Too bad Porkie McCain’s book won’t be ready for April 15th, we could toss them into nearby bodies of water.
Sweet_Thang on April 10, 2009 at 2:37 PM
Oh gosh, I would think she could pull in 6 figures, at least. I bet a lot of young people think she’s cool as heck.
6 figures isn’t much.
AnninCA on April 10, 2009 at 2:37 PM
A publishing company is going to make advances to people who can sell books. For better or worse (obviously worse) a 24-year-old blond can get more air time to promote the book than the soldier can.
I’m skeptical of the “real” Republican tag. Many would leave the GOP if a GOP candidate failed to reflect some subset of core principles–some would go to the Dems some to a third party. In the North East enough moderates have left that there is little remaining of the GOP in office. The party needs to be broad enough that it is a viable national party. If it gets too “real” for a subset of the party then it risks being marginalized. The next step downward for the GOP is to have 40 or fewer senators after 2010, preventing that should be a priority.
dedalus on April 10, 2009 at 3:05 PM
So… bitter jealousy is the correct description of your feelings. Seriously, try those breathing exercises.
Or maybe you could write your own book, sell more copies than Meghan and declare life a total raving success after achieving that goal.
Bradky on April 10, 2009 at 3:13 PM
The left wants her to be the face of the Republican party because she is a complete disaster. She is petty. I wouldn’t read her book if I was in prison in isolation.
TXMomof3 on April 10, 2009 at 4:21 PM
You only like McShamnesty’s daughter because you think she puts the GOP in a negative light. That is a typical position from someone who still doesn’t understand what it means to be a conservative.

I will understand more than you ever will my angry friend. Learned it, expressed it, lived it and taught it.
You have let life make you feel beat down and helpless due to external things over which you have no control. All I have to do is say Fred! or McCain or Obama or Meghan and you go into the aggrieved and angry mode. Why you choose to live that way is beyond me.
You think the only conservative is you – no one else measures up to your exacting stanards — what I call the “Self-professed conservative”. Indeed, the very reason the GOP has little hope of being a united party — to the SPC crowd everyone else is an outsider, Rino, Democrap, Rep-Lite, etc. No one is worthy enough of being in their company. And sadly no SPC understands they drive unity into the ground and discourage anyone from considering the party as a place they want to be.
