Glenn Beck screams at Obama: Why don’t you just set us on fire?
posted at 7:14 pm on April 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
Inside Cable News calls this an Olbermann moment. It isn’t, exactly — Olby takes his Special Comments way too seriously to indulge in the sort of shtick with gasoline that Beck tries here — but it’s close enough. We’re not even three months into Obama’s term and already he’s screaming on air. How’s he going to deal with another three-plus years? What’s especially weird is the instant transition from light-hearted sight gag to seething outrage. Either he’s acting or his mind is … highly nuanced. Watch Bill Schulz try to stay in character as the drama unfolds.
As for amnesty, former McCain ad man Mark McKinnon thinks it’s a master stroke by Obama to pursue it now since the GOP backlash will ensure even more Hispanic support for the Democrats during the midterms. Doesn’t that depend on whether the Democratic Congress kills it or not?

I’ve been screaming since Obama started tearing the Constitution to threads too. Beck is showing the outrage felt by many.
Beck speaks for the common person who is trying to get by in this economy, while losing their jobs and retirement money. Those who are trying to ensure their child will get a proper education..even though those liberal textbook writers continue to change history. He speaks for patriots who love their country, even though liberals hate their country. He speaks for Christians who are sick and tired of Christian bashing while islam is treated with respect that it doesnt deserve. He speaks for parents who are sick of TV, videos, movies, music, clothes and the entire culture that is demeaning women and turning our kids into self-absorbed, spoiled brats to whom sex has no meaning other than for their own self gratification.
He is also speaking for the military who are defending their county in Iraq and Afghanistan. Those brave men who are vilified by the left and mocked and hated by codepink.
He speaks for me too.

Problem is … if the GOP supports amnesty the base goes “bye-bye”. Most of us are tired of compromising our principles and voting for the “lesser of two evils” – especially when “Mr. Lesser” always loses. Nope – I’d rather vote for real conservatives and lose than vote for Liberal-Light and lose – so there ya go.
Now … on the Hispanic vote … the Cuban-Americans are anti-Castro. GOP should playing up that Obama is a Castro lover – copious amounts of Black Caucus quotes calling Castro an “an old friend” need to be spread all over the media. We need to show how Castro was applauded in Black churches when he visited here a few years ago. Play the race card? You betcha baby! Fact is … the Democrats have assembled a majority out of a whole lot of groups that have a lot they disagree on.
Hispanics are mostly Catholic – and Obama and the Democrats are not only for abortion – but for infanticide in many cases.
If GOP dominance in the Hispanic vote depends on amnesty – then we should give up the Hispanic vote. This country can NOT survive with an open southern border.
And I’ll say one more thing. The next Republican President BETTER CLOSE THAT BORDER if we want to keep this country. The democrats are using these illegal aliens to import votes and gain an irreversible majority. That is not FAIR, that is UN-American. It’s simply wrong – and the Democrats need to be called on it and the GOP needs to get the guts to do it.
HondaV65 on April 10, 2009 at 8:12 AM
Reason and Logic were tried this past election and failed. This immigration thing? Is about to get much much worse. Haiti – with the help of UN corruption – is done. It’s essentially uninhabitable. The Dominican Republic has that border locked down like a drum. Where are they going to go to survive? Here, to a President who sees a million more votes coming ashore next election cycle. He is going to give amnesty to illegal aliens and provide protected status to Haitians. Stand by for the next Mariel Boat lift with a much higher body count. Napolitano has stopped the ICE raids and interdictions to pave the way for an influx of illegals like we have never seen.
Did you know human beings can get Mange?
It’ll be a nice distraction from hyperinflation, eh?

O Creator of Worlds….
I was goofing on you for Beck last night, but I think this is kinda more serious than that.
The guy relly is an insane clown.
And people on this thread are trying to rationalize his insanity.
People like you and Douthat and the American Scene bloggers could never actually stand up to your base over Palin, and now you have a main candidate that is just basically unelectable.
The GOP leadership better grow some nads and stand up to the base over Beck, or you will really go down in history as the Juggalo Party.

In a strange way Glenn Beck is acting out how I feel about life in America these days; You can go from being absolutely horrified and over the top freaked out by the idiot who sits in the White House, furious and ready to march on Washington, to REALLY, REALLY hoping that you are overreacting- really wondering if maybe, MAYBE you’re “misunderstanding” the situation. PRAYING that you’re “misunderstanding” how bad things are. I’m beginning to think I may need to cart around a jar of M&M’s too!
Bottom line is that anyone who is paying attention should be scared. Barry and his criminal court have no business being in charge. We can’t get rid of him for a few years, but we can make them know that his socialist game isn’t playing in America. Except of course for the under thirty crowd- lazy punks.

AllahP –
I’ve been listening to Glenn Beck’s radio show for years – since he used to broadcast from my hometown of Philly in 2002/03. His radio show is actually way better than TV. Their produced radio bits and shtick are hilarious.
Anyway, this is just who Beck’s always been. He’s been screaming on the air for years. He used to have a video on his website of him screaming LOUDLY at a doofus caller. A rip roaring good time. All during Bush he was screaming and doing stuff like this over the air. It’s just that it wasn’t in the living rooms of millions of people over dinnertime. It was during morning drive.
I get your point about the perceptions of non-political types who in some way may be those squishy types who are not quite sure if Obama deserves continued support they may be lending him, and then seeing this stuff as they’re channel surfing. If it were me as one of them, it may…give me pause.
But for the record, I thought the clip was just eh. He’s done way funnier stuff.

Daniel Trotta has a great article this week about a financial genius who says that Paulson and Bernanke were\are a disaster for the country.
Author who predicted crisis sees inflation ahead
McCain said during the election that he would fire them and bring in a new direction. Obama said he would keep them and continue. The genius is a Republican who voted for Obama against what he KNEW was bad for the country financially which is his entire career. That’s not logical or rational.
I have seen countless examples of this where people believed one thing and voted against it to elect Obama.
BrideOfRove on April 10, 2009 at 8:27 AM
Every person who believe torture is wrong – and there are many – who voted for Obama. Here you are faced with McCain, a man who has BEEN tortured and who has been on record stating that he would end the practice — a man who everyone agrees had a solid gold word. Obama never really promised anything solid regarding torture and yet people voted for him. I’ve had conversations with liberals who are completely demoralized by the Obama non-action on the issue and asked them why – if that was the number one issue for them – why Obama and not McCain. They have no answer.
Reason and Logic did not elect this president.
BrideOfRove on April 10, 2009 at 8:31 AM
1. Paulson isn’t in the Obama Administration.
2. McCain didn’t say he’d fire either of them, he said he’d fire Chris Cox, chairman of the SEC.
3. Blaming one guy, or just a couple of guys, for the current financial crisis is reasonable and logical? Are you kidding?
I voted for Obama even though I have some serious reservations about his economic policy. I voted for him because I was concerned about McCain’s temper and his inability to believe that people who might disagree with him are not bad people. A good example of this is when he’s meeting with Hispanic leaders and not wanting to help them, because they “made their choice.” I guess what you think is good policy is dependent on whether the folks you help are going to vote for you.
That’s the last guy I want in office.
Proud Rino on April 10, 2009 at 8:35 AM
I agree. But McCain didn’t lose because he used reason and logic either.
Proud Rino on April 10, 2009 at 8:36 AM
Glenn Beck’s popularity is soaring for good reason. Glenn is saying what millions of us want to say, are saying, but have no audience to say it to. Glenn Beck is not falling for the phony messiah crap, like 99% of the media is guilty of. Glenn Beck is referencing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and other important pieces of our historical make-up while describing how Democrats are attacking such (successfully I might add) critical pieces of our foundation.
Bravo Glenn Beck!!!!
Keemo on April 10, 2009 at 8:36 AM
McCain? He flipped on the Bush tax cuts, drilling in ANWR, and his immigration policy. It just so happened that he flipped on these while running for President, and coincidentally, he was having difficulty appeasing the right wing of the Republican party at that time.
So he flipped on several issues to become more conservative.
Solid gold?

Thank G-d. One decent decision by Juan.
No. He kept his idiotic view of this. He also loved crap&trade, the moron.
Nope. He never changed. He just said that he’d add a border security piece, with a joke process to get by it, and then grant citizenship to every living organism. He also took the chance, after Palin gave him a lead in the polls, to start pandering to the illegal alien supporters/traitors that he was going to ram his old bill down our throat the minute he got in.

I felt bad for Schulz. Beck’s studio is freezing and he had what looked like about 1-2 gallons of cold water poured on him. Very, very uncomfortable.
Beck has to dial back the crazy at least a few notches… Seriously. Yes, Obama is making very scary changes to our way of life and is doing things that will cause long term damage to our country. Yes, we should be angry about it, and should fight against it. But what Hannity is doing (running a series featuring Republican policy prescriptions and conservative thinking for how to solve these problems, and throwing barbs at the lunacy of the left) is more effective. Beck is jumping the shark and is becoming a source for embarrassment for Fox, even though he does attract good ratings.

It’s somewhat amusing how some people call themselves “proud rino” and then vote for a candidate who stands against everything that the republicans used to stand for.
Amusing.
I mean… Obama is a joke, that was clear during the campaign already. The promises he made proved so clearly that he has no idea about anything.
Proud Rino, why did you vote for Obama? It was so crystal clear that Obama would ruin the US finances. It was so crystal clear that he would do all the things he already did, yet people still voted for him.
Hitler was right, you know. The large mass of people is blind and stupid. That’s what Hitler said once. Dead on. For once Little Adolf was dead on.
I’m not American, I live in Europe. I see what politicians like Obama have done to the European countries, how they have ruined them, how they have castrated them. That’s why I was against Obama from day one. Because I was (and still am) convinced that the US of A don’t need a Euro-peon (spelling on purpose) style president who will destroy the nation’s sovereignty and finances with his neo-socialist bullshit.
It’s not working in Europe, why would it work in the US? Give me a break!
Oh yeah, nationalized healthcare, such a great thing!
It’s not working in the UK.
It’s not working in Germany.
It’s not working in Austria.
Just to name three EU countries. The rest isn’t off better.
Germany spends a third of its annual budget on social welfare in all its forms!
One third! Imagine that sum! That money mainly floats into “integration” for people don’t want to be part of the German society. Now Germany wants “Hartz IV” (the so called “transfer payment”, a.k.a. unemployment money) for asylum seekers!
That’s what America will get with Obama!
A lot of Americans who think they know something will now say “that’s not true!” Oh yeah? Ever lived in Europe? Ever actually worked here and paid taxes? No? Wait, you’ve been tourists? Soldiers stationed here? Well, then you know NAFT and should rather shut up.
My father was a mere police sergeant and the state took almost 44% of his salary every month in taxes to fund their neo-socialist crap. Yet, our health insurances are bankrupt! Our national debt is rising!
And don’t make me start on Obama’s spending spree. The “Suicide Bill” (called “stimulus bill” by the media) is nuts. Pure and simply NUTS.
Let’s say you have a deficit on your bank account of 5,000 USD, what will you do? Spend MORE and increase the deficit to 20k USD (or more) or will you cut down on spending?
Everyone with a working mind will say: cut down.
Every leftist will say: spend more!
There’s a saying in Germany: If you’re 20, and not a leftist, you have no heart. If you’re 30, and still a leftist, you have no brain.
I’m on the side of Beck in this one. I listened to the show actually where he said it. And he’s right. And you know, he’s not only speaking for all the angry Americans. He’s speaking for all the angry people who are sick and tired of neo-socialist governments that punish success.
Why go to university? Why learn? Why study hard? Why work hard? Should you get a good job, the state will come and take 50% of your salary to fund people who refuse to work. That’s what’s happening in Germany and Austria. If you work your ass off and achieve something the neo-socialists come and steal your money.
There was a tax reform in Austria. People like my father, middle class people, now pay 43.2% every month instead of 43.7%. Lovely. A cop in Austria doesn’t earn that much money anyway and the neo-socialist government still rips them off to fund their EU and their “development aid” and the whole welfare system (which sees large scale abuse anyway).
Wonderful!
Yeah, I’m angry too. Glenn Beck is screaming for me as well.

One last response and then I’m done because you are clearly not concerned about this country and a real time waster but in case anyone out there is taking you seriously one thing needs to be rebutted in what you said.
McCain was not as successful in getting contributions because he was honest. Unlike Obama who took at least $200 million in foreign contributions and more from single small donors who were fronts for larger contributors and who gamed the system unmercifully exploiting every campaign finance hole he could screw, McCain ran a clean campaign.

This is much more important than just a “news gag” – I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it once again – Glenn Beck is much more than any of the other great commentators on Fox. Glenn seeps into the “guy next door’s” fabric and grabs his heart and soul – all the dreams that guy had for his life – all the dreams that guy had for his daughter – there is so much disillusion and pain and fear out there – Glenn is the buoy day after day to give folks someone that knows what they and this great country are going through – he’s the Voice of the People. He is and is going to be a hugely important political figure – and The Messiah is going to be brought down by the connect Glenn has with voters……………you heard it hear first.

I don’t fault Glenn Beck at all.
With a country chock full of American Idol-crazed political apathy, sometimes it takes more than words to get an important point across.
Much of America is in a stupor as Nobowa and his minions take this country into a sharp, socialist nosedive. Glenn Beck is doing what he can to open some eyes, and with far too many sheeple-zombies in this country, products of our once-proud public education system, that’s a VERY tall order.
Keep up the great fight, Gleen Beck. You’re one of my heroes!
And btw, comparing Glenn Beck in any way to Dolterman is like comparing Jimmy Carter to Thomas Jefferson. Sissy blowhard vs real man.

If you think Glenn Beck is crazy, you need to consider this:
The Government HAS SPENT 4 Trillion Dollars already and is on track to spend AN ADDITIONAL 8 Trillion dollars (ON TOP OF THAT: the FED has printed 1 Trillion dollars to pay for this already and will probably be printing MORE money).
So I ask you this: if this doesn’t sound Batsh*t crazy to you yet, what planet are you living on?
I am currently paying for:
A house I’ll never live in
A Car I’ll never drive
An executive Bonus I’ll never enjoy
Toxic assets I could never bring my self to investing in
A 2 Billion dollar boondoggle in IL for Clean coal (that will never get off the ground)…
I could go all day.
Oh, and the average tax bill right now stands at 167K per family.
So if you think Glenn is crazy, you need to watch some Jeremiah Wright. If you STILL think Glenn is crazy, then GTFO!

I suppose as a stand-alone for the non-Fox News watchers who are professionally outraged by anything Fox News does, this could qualify as an “Olbermann Moment” (that is, if they actually thought there was anything wrong with Keith’s Special Comments). But Beck wasn’t dumping the water on a generic News Corp. staffer; he was dumping it on Bill Schulz.
If you’ve watched any of the episodes of “Red Eye” you know this takes it out of the realm of dead-serious (but manufactured) rage into a cross between making a serious point with an over-the-top demonstration, and doing it with an on-air personality who is subject to Greg Gutfeld’s verbal abuse five times a week.
(In fact, they replayed the segment on “Red Eye” last night, after will Bill did say the temperature in Beck’s studio is 20 degrees colder than the “Red Eye” set and he was freezing, and Greg said the video will probably go viral in the ‘water porn’ fetishist community. Hard to get all in a lather about Beck’s segment if you’ve got to brush aside those critiques at the same time.)

AP – you and pussies like Rick Moran really do not get what Beck is trying to do.
He’s on at 5pm, mainly up against syndicated shows like Oprah and Dr. Phil. His radio audience carried over and merged with the Fox viewers to push him into the top three news shows. The MSM is now paying attention, calling him a kook and whatnot – so what are his options.
1) He could be a beta-pussy, calm down and try a nuanced tone. But what is that going to get him? The MSM and a conservative faction – Brooks, McKinnon, etc – are never going to give him credit or apologize. They’ve made their mind up.
2) He embraces being a kook. The MSM, Con-faction, you, etc…continue to write about him and the show. More people watch clips on Youtube, FNC, etc…the message gets out. More people go to the Tea Parties. More people look with question as to what Barry is doing.
In the era of mass communication, entertainment and distraction, Beck is being effective. The only way a dry-wit works is if the MSM will give it coverage, and that ain’t happening anytime soon for someone on the right. Look at the non-coverage of Redeye. That’s easily the funniest political show on TV, but you’ll never read about it.
budfox on April 10, 2009 at 11:14 AM
Get out! This was like, totally news to me!
And I mean, I know I always hit up urban dictionary when I’m going to name something – wouldn’t want the teenage emo kids from the Bay Area demographic to giggle at me. /eyeroll
TheUnrepentantGeek on April 10, 2009 at 11:16 AM
And if you need proof about the lack of coverage rightist dry-wit gets…
…go ask Dennis Miller how well he fared on CNBC and about the coverage of his radio show.

In addition to the higher wall at the New Canaan mansion, he’s probably putting in a sprinkler system. What a silly, paranoid man-of-the-people.
capitulus on April 10, 2009 at 11:17 AM
You do not understand. The “common person” is a schlub. We are supposed to pipe down and pay attention to our betters.
Being an ordinary person is uncool these days. By sneering at the common man, we prove we are superior, kind of like Obama.
You were supposed to learn this during the Joe the Plumber bashing. Being the “common man” or “ordinary citizen” is now something to be ashamed of.
Common people have no opinions of any consequence. /s

RepubChica on April 10, 2009 at 11:27 AM

How many people play WoW alone? 11 million?

ctmom on April 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Yawn.. another drama queen vying for attention. You can’t break away from the computer long enough to read a book – let alone participate in a revolution. “Posting in HA threads and fighting “trolls” is my life!” says the DQ.
See you on the next thread spouting revolution one semi-anonymous post at a time.

You’re a eunuch then? Not making much sense this morning….

Obama would not have been elected dogcatcher twenty years ago.
He won because a large segment of our society no longer believes in individualism. They have an alarming, misplaced trust that government can and should provide for them.
He won because too many people vote for the guy who looks and sounds better on TV.
He won because our population has been mentally weakened by lowest common denominator, government-brand education.
He won because the Democratic party (and some in Republican circles), over the course of seventy years, have managed to accomplish what De Tocqueville foresaw, namely using the people’s own money to bribe them into dependency.
He won because the media, trained by Marxist universities and crippled by racial guilt, failed to call into question many of the alarming facts about Obama’s lack of accomplishments and experience, his socialist beliefs, and his appalling choice of friends. They allowed themselves to be enthralled by a huckster who manages to give them good sound bites.
They engaged in reprehensible character assassination, usually reserved for the sleaziest tabloids, against a vice-presidential candidate eminently more qualified than the opposing presidential candidate. They still continue to do so even after the election is long over.
McCain was a fine candidate, albeit flawed. His biggest mistake was expecting that the media, who fawned over his maverick status for years, wouldn’t turn on him the moment the popular new kid ran against him.

Quick–someone pull the batteries out the Tickle-Me-Elmo…
RepubChica on April 10, 2009 at 11:41 AM
I’ve been screaming at the tv for months now. It’s nice to see someone on the tv, screaming the same things that I’ve been. His schtick may be kooky, but I take actual comfort when he tells his audience that we are not alone.
Give me a screaming, over-the-top but genuinely passionate-about-his-cause man over one that sits droning his tepid blather any day.
Anna on April 10, 2009 at 11:47 AM
I didn’t know this thread was still going. The trolls are even more nutty than usually. Obviously Beck makes them unhinged. Maybe they should get some sleep.
zmdavid on April 10, 2009 at 11:49 AM
Why?
I thought he’d be a better President than McCain. I still think I made the right choice.
Why?
Doesn’t sound like you’re much of a fan of voting or a democratic republic, but it’s something we believe in over here. I disagree with you and Hitler.

Do me a favor and check back later on your posts (after Tickle-Me-Elmo’s had his daily dose of Ritalin) so you can see what a babbling fool you’re making of yourself…
