Video: Obama giving Rick Warren the runaround on embryonic stem-cell funding

posted at 8:50 pm on April 8, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

Skip ahead to 5:50 or so unless you want to hear Pastor Rick compare the spike in church attendance during recessions to the spike in bar and movie attendance — a point which seems, oddly, more geared towards nonbelievers than towards the faithful. Consider this a follow-up of sorts to yesterday’s item about The One not having picked a church yet in time for Easter. Dude, my president is atheist. Awesome.

This would have been so much more fun when Jim and Tammy Faye were still in business.

Actually he isn’t, he’s worse. He so sure he knows what God thinks he doesn’t even need church.

Obowa hasn’t chosen a church because it would be bad form to openly worship oneself.

did he just basically call religion a defense mechanism?

Rick Warren who?

Repurblican on April 8, 2009 at 9:04 PM

Dude, my president is atheist. Awesome.

That’s what you get when you have a Marxist in power.

Speaking of Marx……

Religious distress is at the same time the expression of real distress and the protest against real distress. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions.

And his ol’ pal Lenin…

Atheism is a natural and inseperable part of Marxism, of the theory and practice of scientific socialism.

Dude.

What is church but one guy who is so sure he knows what God thinks telling everyone else that they better believe him? By your logic every pastor is worse than those evil atheists.

I’m actually pissed that I bought his book. He’s an opportunist. Plus, he got suckered into Obama’s inauguration which was meant to diminish him. Serves him right. Warren is a fake, which is totally sad. Where is Billy Graham?

suzyk on April 8, 2009 at 9:06 PM

If this is the results we get out of our first(?) atheist president, I think this is grounds to never do it again.

Rick Warren: Tool

CapitalistPig on April 8, 2009 at 8:56 PM

Warren is a tool. He goes on Larry King and doesn’t seem to have a problem with gay marriage. Sorry Rick, you’re just another religious tool in a long line of them who are afraid to stick to your own alledged moral teachings. I’m not even religious, but to hear an alledged Christian leader not adhere to the Bible’s teachings (which I have read) is so over the top disengenous that is borders on heresey. Why don’t you go away Rick. You’ve lost any sense of credibility with your flock.

Dude, my president is atheist the anti-Christ.

:) I couldn’t resist.

And as to Warren, I keep hearing “to deceive (if possible) even the elect” running through my head. The way people like Warren and especially Doug Kmeic have let themselves be taken in by Obama really make me think I’m not completely kidding about the whole anti-Christ thing. If Obama wasn’t so blooming incompetent, I might not be kidding. Unless of course that is some sort of deception…

pannw on April 8, 2009 at 11:00 PM

I doubt Obama has actually put that much thought into it, Allah.

He’s really not that deep.

pannw on April 8, 2009 at 11:00 PM

Nah. I see Warren as more the “making merchandise” (2 Pet. 2:1-3) or “ear tickling” (2 Tim. 4:3) type than a false prophet working false signs and wonders.

Of course, if he starts calling down fire from the skies on people who won’t buy the new edition of the “Purpose Driven [insert noun here]“, I’ll be inclined to change my mind.

Love Cavuto’s quote (I paraphrase): Any time I see something like Newsweeks cover predicting the fall of Christianity in America, I go long on God.

Me too.

Christian Conservative on April 9, 2009 at 12:51 AM

My take from the video –

Pain is God’s megaphone

People are looking for meaning, connection, relief

blaming doesnt do good (blame = be-lame)

must be balanced by how many credits in his pocket
no credits, no credi-bility

stem cell – of course it troubles me

but changing subject, I baptized 800 people so theres ups and downs….

The mega preacher didn’t bring up God a lot. People seek ‘connection’. No wonder he is so popular, including with Obama

It doesn’t matter if Obama has not yet found the right church. The church will mean little unless he feels called to attend by his heart not a pollster. And if his heart calls, he can find a Bible at home and celebrate God’s love for man

entagor on April 9, 2009 at 3:55 AM

Rick Warren doesn’t represent Christianity. Possibly he represents the sorry state of the evangelical church in America, but, he doesn’t represent the invisible church worldwide. Yes, the embaressing truth is: he was used.

Therefore, Warren= tool.

Listen to the White Horse Inn to hear where I am coming from.

Warren will have much explaining to do.

Listen to the White Horse Inn to hear where I am coming from.

Mommypundit on April 9, 2009 at 6:19 AM

I’ll listen today.

shick on April 9, 2009 at 6:45 AM

Dude, my president is atheist. Awesome.

AP, If he is, he’s as loyal as Warren is to Christ. He himself said things like, “I believe in the power of prayer.”

I know they were “just words” that people want to hear but if he was a convicted atheist he wouldn’t compromise and say things like that.

It must make you proud knowing we have an atheist communist president.

The typical response is, “But he’s one of the many that give atheism a bad name”.

Us few of the many consistent Christians say the same thing.

So where does all this then actually leave us? Lets debate more substantive arguments.

Actually, so do all unbelievers.

The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!”
“For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4-5

Before the election Rick Warren said, “Hey Barack, use me as a door mat or a stepping stone. Whatever you need as long as I am in the news”!!

Now Rick Warren is saying, “Hey Barack used me as a door mat or a stepping stone and NOW HE WON’T EVEN ANSWER MY CALLS and here I am on the news WHINING about it”!

Dogs and fleas my man.

Bicyea on April 9, 2009 at 8:47 AM

shick on April 9, 2009 at 8:53 AM

“…a point which seems, oddly, more geared towards nonbelievers than towards the faithful.”

Actually, that’s consistent with Warren’s mission. His is a church for “seekers” – nonbelievers or fence-sitters. This has pros & cons. On the plus side, Jesus came to heal the sick, not the healthy. Downside: pastors who cater to seekers often compromise their beliefs to incease appeal. Warren, unfortunately, has taken the low road way too much lately. Is that because he wants to bring more people to Christ? Or is it because he wants to increase his own stock, politically or otherwise? I won’t judge.

KS Rex on April 9, 2009 at 9:00 AM

This is what happens when we invest in people for our spiritual guidance. Rule #1: People are weak, frail and fallible and they WILL let you down. Go to church to reinforce your faith and be in communion with like-minded souls. But when people, like Rick Warren, become the church, you will be in for a letdown. I have not read his books and they may have great value when taken in context, but always remember rule #1. Keep that in mind and you can guard against putting men on a pedestal from which they are bound to fall.

SKYFOX on April 9, 2009 at 10:10 AM

Dude, my president is atheist. Awesome.

He’s not an atheist. His bow to the Saudi king clearly shows his true beliefs.

ladyingray on April 9, 2009 at 11:05 AM

Rick Warren is no tool. He’s the real deal. Despite the success of his books, he doesn’t live in a mansion, or even drive an expensive car. When Purpose Driven Life sold millions of copies, Warren paid Saddleback Church back his salary for the previous 25 years. He hasn’t become the church, he’s the leader of one church, and he’s a very humble man. Why is he received with so much skepticism and hatred?

sgt_rich on April 9, 2009 at 11:24 AM

The Simpsons had a great take on this in an episode where a disaster was about to occur. They showed a scene of the church and Moe’s bar side-by-side. All of the people in the church came running out and went to the bar and all of the people in the bar went running to the church.

gregbert on April 9, 2009 at 11:27 AM

Rick at his core is a media hound. Look at me. Look at me. Once he got a taste of the spotlight at his townhall, he couldn’t forget his beliefs fast enough to get his fat rearend in the spotlight.

IMHO Obama used Rev Wright’s church to get ahead in Chicago. I have never believed he gave a damn about his faith. Nothing in his life shows he walks the talk of a man of Christian faith. Obama got what he set out to get and the MSM is on his side covering up his shortcomings and mistakes so he does not need to be a pretend Christian anymore. He thinks he has the winning hand and right now he does. Only time will tell when the game turns on him and when God holds him accountable. Obama’s accountability clock is ticking, can you hear it?
