Nutroots bloggers whine: Democratic groups won’t advertise on our sites!
posted at 9:35 pm on April 8, 2009 by Allahpundit
In which I join with my nutroots jackass brethren. File this one away for the next time you hear some lefty snark about “wingnut welfare.” And let the blog money flow!
“Most want the easy way — having a big blogger promote their agenda,” adds Markos Moulitsas, the founder of DailyKos. “Then they turn around and spend $50K for a one-page ad in the New York Times or whatever.” Moulitsas adds that officials at such groups often do nothing to engage the sites’s audiences by, say, writing posts, instead wanting the bloggers to do everything for them.
The behind-the-scenes tensions go to the heart of the role these bloggers have created for themselves in Democratic politics — they’re basically advocates and operatives with big platforms — and their future role, too. They argue that their efforts and fundraising helped drive the Democratic ascendancy. Yet even the Dem party committees are reluctant to advertise with them, raising the question of whether the party will ever be willing to seriously invest long-term in this new media infrastructure.
“We don’t invest in the future, and Republicans do,” says John Aravosis, the founder of AMERICAblog. “The party committees really get that we can be effective as their partners and that we’re happy to help, and they take advantage of that. But even so, very little ad money comes from them. It’s more than just wanting to share in the spoils. We are small business-people who are fighting to survive economically in a really bad year.”
Really, Aravosis? Republican blogs are way ahead in the money game? I encourage HA readers to e-mail Michael Steele and make John’s prediction a reality. Michelle isn’t willing to sell out but I am. Pay my rent, Republican movers and shakers! We’re fighting to survive, too. A pro-FMA post is just a thousand-dollar donation away.

Since the nutroots are literally nuts, making the connection between them and the Democrats could be costly come election time.

The lefty bloggers are not seeing this as the life lesson that it really is. They’re whining about people not wanting to advertise on their sites. What they should be doing is asking themselves, “Why don’t people want to advertise on my site?” Of course being liberals, they don’t think this way. They think people should be flocking to them for the privilege of advertising with them, no matter what their content is. The world does not owe them a living, even with Obama as President.

……… from the MSM, Newspapers, Hollywood, Liberal Radio, and this tool,
They don’t understand that they are all saying the same thing………..
……… you have be unique and have a product that people want in order to have people want to spend their money to advertise on your forum, what ever it is,
but the Left, who usually rely on grants and bureaucratic funding, don’t realize that the people paying for the advertisement want a return on their investment…….
…….. usually, they have a family to feed at home, and that comes into mind in the day to day operations and financial decisions in running a business.

And AP, we’re still waiting for the “tip jar”, or sommat. It’s nice if ads cover expenses, but heck, a little pimping never hurt anyone, eh?
I’d at least buy a mug or T-shirt, but Cafe Press’ canned fashion (ahem) style is so boring and unimaginative, I’d be embarrassed to be seen in something like that. Michelle’s very creative that way, how about something that stands out? I’d go a few bucks for unique sweatshirts that aren’t standard issue looking!

No sane person should want to advertise amidst the ramblings of the nasty foul-mouth moonbats at DailyKos. On any given day they might kick it up a notch (e.g. “I feel nothing over the death of merceneries”) and severely damage the reputation of your business, just by sharing a web address with them.

Are we finally going to see Liberals define themselves from Progressives? Remember Progressives don’t like to be called Liberals. There is no reason for Liberals who have to be getting pretty lonely with all the people leaving the Democrat Party. Check out the PUMAS if you don’t believe me they are growing stronger, and they don’t discourage engagement with Independents, Republicans or Conservatives. The core of the Democrat Party finally going to take back the leadership from the Fringe of the party aka Progressives?

The biggest problem that lefty bloggers have is the fact that they–much moreso than the right–are a huge echo chamber. Their readers are incurious, and are there to consume talking points rather than gain insight… they simply don’t click links.
It has been noted before that Kos readers simply don’t click through. They don’t follow links for actual content, so one can only imagine how poorly advertising would perform there.

Nelsa on April 8, 2009 at 10:46 PM
Hot Air and other righty blogs that I read seem very reluctant to ask for money. I think your readership will ante-up when called to do so. It’s just that we think of the internet as being totally free in the economic sense, and need to be reminded that that is really not so.
As for advertising on the ‘net, I’m not a big fan. I don’t know how much “kapital” is truly generated by marketing, as I am reluctant to click on anything that tries to sell me something. Perhaps if the product was right. The Old Spice commercials are risky – they might be a good fit, and I might actually buy some Old Spice. The one with Richard Cheese first got my attention. Something in that vein might work.
But I understand the reluctance of many companies to advertise on partisan blog sites, and risk alienating 1/2 of their potential customers.
