Good for Rush. That guy could only point to one thing he disagreed with Rush on, and just kept hammering on it like he had made some great point. “Brainwashed Nazi?” Give me a break.

Meh.

Lame QOTD.

I heard it live and didn’t really consider it “nuclear”; Rush has demolished people before far worse than this seminar caller received.

Bishop on April 7, 2009 at 10:36 PM

Rush seemed more annoyed than nuclear. Usually, he’d string a guy like that out to show that he’s nowhere near being a conservative, but a Rino in Illinois.

Saltysam on April 7, 2009 at 10:42 PM

I love Rush, record his show every day to listen to at work every night. Even though I don’t always agree with him, he is one of the funniest and most easy going guys on the radio.

It takes a lot to get him riled up, but this caller was such an obvious plant. Rush makes it a point never to hang up on callers, so he often takes more abuse than he should. The caller was neither a conservative nor republican. He’s just trying to blame an easy target for his own shortcomings in life. Sounds like a typical liberal to me.

Great point Sam.

Sequi what is your real name?

Jamson64 on April 7, 2009 at 10:44 PM

I doubt this Charles was a republican. Liberals like to that – claim to be a conservative who just couldn’t take conservatism anymore. They feel that tactic will earn their talking points extra credit if it is believed to be coming from a former conservative. ProudRino is our resident expert in that field of deception. Charles started off moderatley, then sinks into the usual far left-wing kookery once he gets going. No lucid argument, just name calling and the line, repeated, but not explained, “We’re not supposed to be torturing these people!”

Nuclear? I think not. Rush’s response was tepid at best. Almost embarrassing.

Tommy_G on April 7, 2009 at 10:42 PM

Rush did what he usually does with idiot callers like this.

He let’s them run on before he talks.

It’s called giving enough rope so that they hang themselves.

Works every time.

Saltysam on April 7, 2009 at 10:47 PM

The caption on this youtube clip mischaracterizes what happened. If we are to take the caller at his word, his opinion concerning torture is much more credible than Rush’s. The characterization of Rush as a Nazi may be a stretch, but not by much. Rush has made a career of being incendiary, to the point of advocating torture (although he denies it on this call). He sidestepped the caller’s point that he has never served in the military. Rush is a self-centered, indulgent, fat slob who has gotten rich by nurturing the fears and insecurities of ignorant white men across the country for years. Period.

God bless Rush. He’s one of the few voices of reason on the air.

ErinF on April 7, 2009 at 11:04 PM

I don’t give a flick if you think I’m a Nazi because I support the use of “aggressive interrogation techniques” in defense of our great nation.

You are so willing to question the humanity of your fellow Americans who may be charged with your defense and at the same time giving any terrorist the benefit of the doubt.

If torture didn’t work in certain circumstances, there would be no reason to use it. Professional interrogators know this and take no delight in employing those tactics but they are proud of the job they do in protecting your lame ass.

ConstantSorrow on April 7, 2009 at 11:04 PM

Rush came off as a moron here. While the guy may have been a bit hyperbolic and acerbic Rush did himself no good here. He tried claiming the guy was no Republican when in no way did the guy offer any hint that this is the case. It was merely Rush getting angry at being insulted without having anything of substance to hurl back at the guy.

And I think the caller actually has a point. Its not really on Rush though but more the MSM’s portrayal of Rush that hurt the Republicans. But as long as Rush gives them anything to distort they’re going to and going to do it effectively.

I’d be interested in a public opinion poll on Rush and see what independents think of him. I bet most would say he’s to brash and hurts the process more than he helps.

Again, to be clear, I’m mostly decrying the MSM and not Rush. Rush just needs to do better PR.

the other tactic leftist use in debate, especially online, is to claim to be ‘non-partisan’ and claim all the problems we have is over partisanship, only citing Republican examples. always bashing republicans.

I encountered once a lawyer type ‘non-partisian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative’ idiot. Who claimed to have voted for bush in 2000 but he had learned his lesson and was voting Kerry in 2004, but he was no Democrat you see.

later, around the time of Moore’s F911, he went on for pages and pages about how Bush was just like Hitler with his foreign policy.

I don’t listen to Rush all that often, in fact most of what I hear from him comes through this site. However, my understanding is that he derives his political thinking from the Founding Fathers, more or less. As a thought experiment, let’s just stipulate that Rush is right about what the Founding Fathers would believe if alive today. Do you think that if Thomas Jefferson or James Madison were to suddenly come back to life with those ideas, the MSM wouldn’t vilify them? It’s the ideas, not the person, that the MSM doesn’t like. They have their own ideas about how the country should be organized and would oppose anyone who articulated an alternative.

rush refused several debates.

I can see why.

He will get crushed.

Guys — lay off.

He’s working hard for that 5.50 an hour from ACORN.

Funny how you glossed over Obama not taking up Rush on a debate. FUNNY

Jamson64 on April 7, 2009 at 11:22 PM

Always hard to hear a member of the armed services saying such things, but it’s everyone’s right to be as informed or as ignorant as they choose.

MadisonConservative on April 7, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Whenever I hear an alleged GI trounce another patriotic citizen for not serving or trounce the quality of another veteran’s honorable service, my Jesse MacBeth alarm goes off.

David Shuster is feeling the pressure of not having a regular big; it will be back to bagging groceries for him soon.

Breaking! Somebody calls Rush a Nazi!

ConstantSorrow on April 7, 2009 at 11:04 PM

Since when is the use of hard interrogation to extract information from an enemy that has declared war upon, and has sworn total annihilation of, our nation beneath us?

This is so critically different than these other nations that use real torture for intimidating populations into a slavish existence, and punishing those that have the audacity to stand as free men.

These loudmouths never waste a breath on real torture.

Saltysam on April 7, 2009 at 11:23 PM

The characterization of Rush as a Nazi may be a stretch, but not by much. Rush has made a career of being incendiary, to the point of advocating torture (although he denies it on this call). He sidestepped the caller’s point that he has never served in the military. Rush is a self-centered, indulgent, fat slob who has gotten rich by nurturing the fears and insecurities of ignorant white men across the country for years. Period.

underceij on April 7, 2009 at 10:48 PM

Obama never served in the military either. Nazi? It’s the Dems who are pusghing for state control of private industries. “Self-centered, indulgent, fat slob”? Way to argue the issues. Typical empty-headed lefty response.

ddrintn on April 7, 2009 at 11:24 PM

I actually felt like Rush dropped the ball on that one. His response to the guy–who, while calling names actually had something of a point below the surface–was to use ad hominems back at him and declare him “not a Republican”.

Honestly, nobody outside of the choir would be impressed with anything in that clip.

DaveS on April 7, 2009 at 11:25 PM

If this guy was in the service, it sure wasn’t anything to do with combat. Guantanemo torture? What crap.
Very mild from Rush; Levin would have knocked that clown’s head through his ass.

Can’t come soon enough. I watched him on Hardball tonight with his nightly Palin bash. He had some woman who was really a pretty moderate probably left leaning analyst on and even she looked incredulous at his nastiness.

In a debate with Obama? I could crush Obama in a debate.
