Bombshell: Iran nuke plan revealed in NYC indictment

Manhattan’s District Attorney plans to unveil an indictment of a Chinese national on 118 counts relating to the transfer of technology and material for nuclear weapons to Iran. Several New York City banks unwittingly took part in the vast laundering ring, which allowed Iran to acquire critical material for its nuclear-weapons program. This comes just on the heels of Barack Obama’s pledge to “engage” with Iran and rid the world of nukes:
The Manhattan district attorney’s office has smashed a sinister plot to smuggle nuclear weapons materials to Iran through unwitting New York banks, the Daily News has learned.
Officials plan to unseal a 118-count indictment Tuesday accusing a Chinese national of setting up a handful of fake companies to hide that he was selling millions of dollars in potential nuclear materials to Tehran.
“This case will cut off a major source of supply to Iran and it shows how they are going ahead full steam to get a nuclear bomb. Long-range missiles they pretty much have already,” a law enforcement source close to the case said.
“We think it is one of the largest suppliers of weapons of mass destruction to Iran.”
What? Why, the American intelligence community declared that any such talk of Iran continuing its pursuit of nuclear weapons to be mistaken. After the publication of the National Intelligence Estimate in December 2007, the Democrats rebuked George Bush with the finding, which kneecapped his efforts to get Iran to halt — much to the consternation of our allies in Europe, who knew better. John Bolton accused Bush critics within American intelligence of cooking the books in order to gain control of American policy.
Looks like Bolton pretty much got it right. The UN bans a number of materials from being sold to Iran to keep the mullahs from getting the bomb. Among the material sold to Iran through this ring are a special alloy of aluminum chiefly used for long-range missiles, maraging steel rods used in nuclear-bomb casings, and the tungsten copper plate needed for missile guidance. Even better, this ring operated from 2006 to 2008, right at the time when the brilliant minds at Langley tried to convince everyone that Iran had stopped pursuing nuclear weapons years before.
It really does make the “intelligence” in Central Intelligence Agency seem ironic, doesn’t it?
Congress should demand hearings into the politicization of the intelligence processes that produced that NIE. Since Democrats benefited the most from the perversion of intel, though, don’t hold your breath waiting for it.

I read that NIE report and even they say that Iran still wanted a bomb and intended to have one. It was not a whitewash.

Next thing Obama will apologize for America being arrogant and unhappy with the spread of weapons. How judgemental of us.
seven on April 7, 2009 at 2:23 PM
What they said was that they believed Iran might have stalled the actual building of a nuke because of the invasion of Iraq but they kept the programs intact to use later.
They were probably wrong and the building went right on anyway, but the report does not say Iran is safe, not at all.

Sad that it took A major city DA to expose this.

This should be interesting.

Politicization of the CIA-what a waste of effort.
Why not just ask hostile foreign govts what they are doing & take it as gospel?
The info would probably be more accurate than the politicized garbage coming out of some of these “think tanks”.

Oh, you read the classified version? Just a reminder that the perversion and dismantling of our security goes well into the Departments of State and Defense. There are more counter-insurgents in there now than ever before. Also, how many times do we have to read about (after the fact, of course) a Chinese national stealing nuclear secrets before we realize what the end game is? Until we stand one of these cretins up against the wall and shoot them, no one will pay attention.

From the report:
“…Authorities first stumbled over the scheme seven months ago in an unrelated probe into Iranian money-laundering through Lloyd’s, a British bank.
In January, Lloyd’s paid a $350 million fine to settle accusations it “stripped” information from Iranian money transfers to New York banks, hiding where the cash came from.
Officials said they suspected that money was also used to finance Iran’s nuke program.”

Political Scenario 1: The “optimists” are right, and Iran won’t be able to announce N-Day (the day it has Da Bomb) before 2012.
Political Scenario 2: The pessimists are right, Iran is on the verge already, and either (2a) N-Day comes early or (2b) Israel attempts a delay option.
In case of 1, we’re likely to see continued temporizing and detente-seeking from President Cool & the Gang.
Though the differences between 2a and 2b are large, the political bottom line in either case would represent a major setback for US policy, in the former case one of the greatest ever, in the latter leading also to great uncertainty as well as danger.
The pressure on Obama to change the story would be tremendous. No one – no commitment, no relationship, no individual or constituency – would be safe, including Obama himself if his moves, or lack of them, were poorly received.
And an awful lot of pixels devoted to an awful lot of other topics will turn out to have been wasted.

Any bets on which will occur first?
1. Outright shredding of the US Constitution as outdated and racist. Obama “elected” president for life.
2. Surrender to a foreign nation holding nuclear arms.
3. Surrender to a foreign nation due to Political Correctness pressure (illegal aliens = racism, muslim = Islamophobe, etc.).
