Tyra Banks: Let’s applaud the Johnstons for talking trash about the Palins for free
posted at 4:25 pm on April 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
I thought they were low-rent in taking money from a tabloid talk show to dish about the other half of little Tripp’s family, but now that I know they were doing it gratis, for the sheer sport of it, well, that changes everything.
The media’s having a grand old time snickering about this story, as they’ll continue to do with anything that plays into their narrative of Palin being the center of some sort of freak show (see, e.g., the turkey clip they all love so much). You’d think the Johnstons would be sensitive enough to that, at least, to sit with a respectable journalist if they were intent on stooping to a tell-all. Instead they went with the trashiest venue they could find this side of Springer. What happened? Was “Maury” all booked up?
Word today from the Washingtonian is that Sarahcuda and Bristol may do some dishing of their own, albeit on more useful subjects. Click the image to watch.

I would have rather lost with Romney last year than lost with McCain. At least it would have been fun watching the Donkey Party descend into Mormon bashing and seeing Utah go 98% for the Republicans.

Yes, I know you could, but I don’t see how that gets us anywhere, assuming these conversations ever get anyone anywhere.
And really, what is the point? What do you get out of these insults? At least the Christian has heaven and a relationship with God. What do you get? A laugh at the expense of someone else you otherwise agree with politically?
Once again, that’s Paul, not Jesus. Surely you know they’re not the same person.

Wait a minute, that “quoted scripture” isn’t even 1 Corinthians 5:9-10.
1 Corinthians 5:9-10 is:
What this world-class theologian MEANT to quote was 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
However, the money quote is in verse 11 (I TOLD you he’d take it out of context). Thus, let me give you the NIV version of 1 Corinthians 6:9-11:

There are a lot of things God doesn’t like. They’re called sin. Everyone has done one or more of them. That’s in the Bible too.
And, as a reminder, the following people in the lineage of Jesus would have been condemned by you as well: Tamar (dressed as a prostitute and seduced her father-in-law), Rahab (was a prostitute), and Bathsheba (bedded a king while her husband was off at war…king then had husband killed).
Shouldn’t we take this to a Christian forum? ‘Cause I’m sure the non-Christian conservatives are just loving this fruitless discussion. (Hi, AP!)

ddrintn on April 6, 2009 at 6:51 PM
1) You claimed it was chapter 5. Someone who KNOWS their scripture would have gotten it correct.
2) You DID take it out of context because you left out verse 11: And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
In other words, guess who’s going to heaven?
Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effeminate, abusers of themselves with mankind, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners – if/when they are washed clean of their sins through the grace of God.

As a reverend, you really suck.
Paul was telling the people of Corinth to CLEAN UP THEIR DAMN ACT BECAUSE IF THEY DIDNT CLEAN UP THEIR DAMN ACT, THEY AINT GOING TO HEAVEN.
You dont need a seminary to read the bible, reverend, I think you need a seminary to teach you how to argue around the simple truths of the bible.
The Wall on April 6, 2009 at 6:54 PM
First of all, you’re a fool and a rather appalling person. Generally speaking, I don’t respond to people who are not interested in civil debate, but your false assertions of your own perfection bother me. I would not classify myself as a particularly religious person, but I was raised in church and you are the worst sort of church hypocrite. You assert that you, and you alone, are correct and sin-free. Yet you continually post shameful and un-Christian comments on this blog.
I’ve noticed that you seem to pick and choose the verses in the bible that you wish to believe. You seem to stake your argument on bible-based morality, and claims of your own perfection. Which is interesting as your comments on this blog clearly violate directives in the bible, and to the bible clearly states that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” At any rate, such a “well-educated” and “moral” person as yourself (/sarc) should take the time to read all the verses, and not just the ones you wish to twist for your own purposes.

Just to make it clear.
1) Jesus didn’t say this, Paul did.
2) And actually, Paul DID say that these people would get into heaven if/when they were washed clean with the justifying grace of God.
Full quote (emphasis mine), and just for fun I’ll use the KJV:

Actually, Paul was warning of the dangers of un-repented sin, and reminding those in the church of Corinth that we are only justified through the sacrifice of Christ.
Slublog on April 6, 2009 at 6:59 PM
You may be right. The fact that you are probably wrong bothers you, though.
ddrintn on April 6, 2009 at 6:59 PM
Whoa! You’re finally admitting that those where Paul’s words and not Jesus’??!!
I guess we’re finally getting somewhere.
Too bad you don’t understand how verse 11 impacts verses 9-10.
OF COURSE Paul is teaching the Corinthians (and anyone else who would listen) that sinners don’t get to heaven.
However, and this is the WHOLE POINT of the Gospels…
…through the blood of Christ we can be washed clean of our sins.
That is, through the sanctifying grace of God enacted through the work of the Holy Spirit, we sinners can be forgiven of our sins and given eternal life in heaven with the triune God.
So, who will be in heaven?
Forgiven sinners.
This is basic, fundamental theology.
Religious_Zealot on April 6, 2009 at 7:00 PM
Yes and that is definitely a problem with religion. No need for a hardwired moral code here, just that you keep your freedom as long as you don’t infringe on anyone else’s. Many could even agree to that.

I watched the last half of this interview by accident this morning. I thought it was a news clip before I realized it was the Tyra Banks show.
Tyra did a really good job interviewing these three who were way out of their depth. I came in when Tyra was asking the boy if they always practiced safe sex. He kept insisting ‘yes’ while the sister was saying no.
The poor fish, I mean boy, didn’t seem to have a clue he did not have to answer a question about his sex life, and the vengeful sister did not have the pride to stay out of it.
The sister had a tale to tell about Palin’s daughter sending her mean text messages and a whole pack of mean girls joining in. A clueless amoeba, she spilled the meanies to Tyra’s gentle coaxing.
While watching this I kept thinking how happy Tyra’s producers must be. They hit the jackpot.
Tyra did not behave badly, although from my perspective when people are too simple, I usually lay off because it is so unfair.
My friend noticed the mother’s makeup, which was caked dead white with heavy black eyeliner and said she looked like she was set up to look like trailer trash. Normally guests are made up by their people to show properly on camera. Who did the makeup?
I felt sorry for Mom trying to be lawyerly as she explained why whe was bound not to talk about a pending drug charge
The spiteful sister was like Meghan McCain without the money
The other two were poor fish out of water
Tyra should get a career boost from this one. She scorred
