Glenn Beck: No, FEMA isn’t running concentration camps

posted at 7:20 pm on April 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

He promised viewers a debunking today and he delivered. I get nervous about this stuff being covered even for debunking purposes since to address it is to deem it plausible enough for serious inquiry, which is excusable in the case of a phenomenon like 9/11 Truth but less so in this case. Even so, a debunking is a debunking, so hats off to GB. This won’t do jack to convince hardcore nuts like Richard Poplawski but mainstream people who might otherwise take seriously a chain e-mail in this vein will think twice henceforth.

Now that Popular Mechanics is finished with this, maybe they want to have a word with Michele Bachmann?

Darned if he covers it and darned if he doesn’t. I like how he handled it. No nuance in Glenn’s presentation, either. He said he’s sick and tired of getting the Nutter’s e-mails about this.

I’ve always enjoyed Beck’s show, but he’s been going over the top since he’s been on Fox News. Needs to get back to what he was doing on Headline News.

therightwinger on April 6, 2009 at 7:35 PM

It’s just a shame its even part of a “news” program. Or I guess we should call it what it is, infotainment. Jon Stewart..but without the brains and more weeping.

Complete7 on April 6, 2009 at 7:43 PM

Jim Treacher, Dropping this by for you:

Poplawski bought into the SHTF/TEOTWAKI conspiracy theories hook, line and sinker, even posting a link to Stormfront of a YouTube video featuring talk show host Glenn Beck talking about FEMA camps with Congressman Ron Paul. When the city of Pittsburgh got a Homeland Security grant to add surveillance cameras to protect downtown bridges, Poplawski told Stormfronters that it was “ramping up the police state.” He said, too, that he gave warnings to grocery store customers he encountered (but only if they were white) to stock up on canned goods and other long-lasting foods.

Now ADL’s not the most reliable source, but the forums are still there and accessible if you think you need verification.

I am so sick and tired of people making Michelle Bachmann’s words anything but what she intended. She uses hyperbole a lot and is spot on this reference, Allah. If you are so naive that you wouldn’t think the leftists would use this program that is referenced as a chance to mold attitudes, you haven’t really understood Rules for Radicals, have you? Michelle is no Paulite, Yes, I know her.

MNDavenotPC on April 6, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Well you may have just put your finger on the root of the problem. Failure to communicate, as Glenn Beck never uses hyperbole.

Oh wait! Never mind.

MB4 on April 6, 2009 at 7:53 PM

Look, we all wanted the media to report on things during the election only found on the internet. Things like Ayers, Raila Odinga, Kahlidi, Rezko what was really recorded by the LAT. And we got zip, zero, nada. Never mind all those stories about taking out all our nukes and bankrupting the coal industry.

Even our side has some fringeness that must be either proven false or true. The FEMA camp story has been all over the net and has even invaded normal places where most Truthers are dismissed or not taken seriously.

Since Beck brought it up, he should be the one to put it to bed. I like it that his staff seems to have some clue as to what is going on out here in internet land. Some like BOR and others would never discuss such a thing much less know it existed! Putting this story out of commission will just give the Truthers something else to latch on to. It at least saves us the time and trouble of nuking their little stories.

freeus on April 6, 2009 at 7:55 PM

Besides, based on our experience with FEMA, the could not find their asses with both hands.

As to Michelle Bachman, I like her a lot and that was a cheap shot considering the slime that has been slung in her direction this weekend by the Kos.

So now Glenn Beck tells me that FEMA wasn’t planing to put me in a concentration camp. Fine kettle of fish this is. Why didn’t he tell me this a couple of months ago before I rented a bulldozer and a back hoe and built a 25 feet deep moat around my castle and stocked the moat with piranhas? Looks like I will not need those howitzers that I midnight requisitioned from the National Guard armory either. Now what am I going to do? I feel so silly all of a sudden.

Please Glenn Beck, if that invasion by space aliens is not coming soon after all, kindly let me know now.

BallisticBob on April 6, 2009 at 8:15 PM

I wonder why Glenn hyped this FEMA stuff when he was on Fox & Friends. That morning when he first announced it, he sounded ominous. He seemed confident that he was going to discuss it that night. But then when night time rolled around he retreated. And then doesn’t it talk about it for several weeks later?

I like Glenn but I don’t understand why he would hype it that way. That seems dishonest. Was he trying to boost his ratings or what?

I checked out that “FEMA death camp” that Linda Thompson made the video about when she was telling the world about it on her shortwave radio program. It had entire sections of fence missing. Her big thing was that the barb wire on the top of the fence faced inward – you know, to keep people in, not out and there were sections marked out with signs.

She also thought the maintenance stickers on the back of traffic signs on the interstates were to lead the troops to the above mentioned camp. And the cameras on top of the light poles were to track patriots.

Ah, the good old days.

Jim Treacher on April 6, 2009 at 10:35 PM

The theory is that these camps are a contingency, not active right now.

Can anyone say 100% that the Feds haven’t had a contingency plan for such things?

Years ago we learned about the thousands of C-rations stored at (or near, can’t remember) D.C. in case of a national emergency, and later on the secret underground facility in West Virginia for government leaders to evacuate to. Nuclear holocaust? Revolution? Invasion? All of the above?

It would only be prudent for D.C. to have a plan for a military coup, revolution, insurgency, etc., and is not beyond the realm of possibility at all.

Also, Beck has had to admit recently that those who have been warning about the OWG weren’t so full of it after all. If that’s the case, then why wouldn’t they seek to round up those who might interfere?

Kudos to MNDave. Allah you cheap shotted Bachmann and she didn’t deserve it, then you linked to a GEORGE SOROS funded site MN Independent, you nut. Like there is any credibility there? I listened to the Jason Lewis radio show in real time when Bachmann was on, and I didn’t run around crying conspiracy theory like you’re doing. Jeez, she is one of the only sane, reliable conservatives in the House, the Left hates her, and now we have Hot Air dissing her.

mngirl on April 6, 2009 at 10:53 PM

Now that Popular Mechanics is finished with this, maybe they want to have a word with Michele Bachmann?

Gosh, I can’t imagine why Michele Bachman (who was speaking figuratively) would entertain these ideas – what with the indoctrination which already goes on in the public schools, his work with Bill Ayers, the examples of Camp Obama and Public Allies, Obama’s own campaign literature which talks about giving money to schools on the condition that they integrate service with learning, Rahm Emanuel’s bootcamps, Obama’s speeches on universal service corps, his desire to emulate South Korea’s nightmarish education model, and proposals for Public Service Academies. Oh, and did I mention ACORN? Why she must be a kook!

BTW, I hope you are taking notice of how the Left are singling her out for ridicule (like Palin). As an articulate, attractive, fiercely patriotic foster mom she is a threat to them and thus has a huge target on her back. If only they could muster as much animosity for Iran and North Korea.

If most of what’s taxed by the Americans’ “federal” government were left to be taxed (or not) by the states and cities, it seems the people, states, and cities all over America would be able to make their own preparations for disaster. As a result, there would be little reason for the Americans to feel menaced by what would still be a truly federal government.

I think that, given the loss of their federal orders, it may already be too late for the Americans to save themselves from tyranny. Only if they can somehow manage to return to federal orders do I think the Americans will be able to save themselves from despotic and dynastic rulers. But it’s not clear whether it’s possible for the Americans to stop agitating about the issue of the day, and focus steadily on the issue of the last hundred years.

If people choose to turn a blind eye to govn’t contingency plans and how they might play out, that’s their choice I suppose. Me – I don’t trust these clowns in DC as far as I can throw them – and combined with the all consuming plan of govn’t is for the continuance of control and more power, I have my suspicians that we’re not getting the ‘whole’ story from Beck and others. Does it make me want to dig a hole in the back yard and pour some concrete? No, but it does prod me toward self-sufficiency in a way that I will hopefully NEVER need to wait in line for the government’s ‘assistance’ in a time of natural disaster or otherwise.

So yes, I guess I’m a nut

The indoctrination has been going on for years. How do you think we ended up with Ogabe? White guilt can’t explain all of it.
