I can really relate to people having to hold and/or bite their tongue. 10 years ago, I was a lib, and worked with all conservatives in the Denver area. Now I am a conservative and work with all libs in Delaware. Can’t win! But I just don’t talk politics – and it is usually the libs who make comments as if their opinion is the only correct position. (Nor do I discuss religion! I dont know where that would end up! LOL!)

It’s not very funny like the article says, but it is sad when even the liberals are making fun of him.

More details for how the decision was made, Clinton performing research on Playboy, Hustler etc. is more illustrative than anything a simple yes or no can enlist.

Rush is a big Steelers fan, nuff said.

Sounds like a great relationship, based on mutual respect and admiration.

It’s been my experience that in probably 95% of the cases where I have a political disagreement with someone, it has started because the other person has felt the need to inject politics into the discussion. And trust me, I end up biting my tongue just about every day, especially with my portside co-workers.

We have a tradition of public discourse over political matters. It goes back to long before we were independent of Britain. Sorry, but discussion of politics and religion in public is EXACTLY what the first amendment is about.

What has changed recently is political correctness. The inability to discuss politics or religion in public is part of the PC guidelines. The attitudes that everybody must think like you or they are bad is what is wrong. Maybe you need some lessons in both history and sociology to learn real facts instead of spewing your mantras.

You got the narrow minded correct! But you refer to the wrong group of people. All of the posts citing loss of friendships and family relationships were due to the left leaners being out of control, not the neocons you call pathetic. Why is it that those on the left become rabid when discussing their views (this is not absolute, there are rabid “righties” too)? Two people with a differing opinion can have polite discourse over their beliefs, but sadly it seems to never happen that way. While relationships are important, not so much when the person who’s so blind that they can not see how their hatred towards a differing belief diminishes their capacity for compassion and understanding.

I have neither the time nor desire to nurture a relationship with someone who resorts to an abnormal anger bordering on irrationality simply because I disagree with them no matter the topic.

Well, for the light bulbs… GE owns NBC, so I’m not surprised they get to keep making light bulbs. I am a bit surprised they showed a picture of an incandescent bulb rather than a compact fluorescent.

Why do you leap to the conclusion that I was ever the one who brought politics up? Or the others?

*They* start ranting, on Palin, for instance. *They* are rude enough to assume that naturally everyone with earshot (which is usually some distance) agrees.

I have responded to questions, though – big mistake. Like “Who did you vote for?” Back in the day, a person could answer a question like that from a friend without being screeched at. Times have apparently changed.

I give up lifelong friends when they not only insist on talking politics, but what’s worse, insist I either agree with them or get yelled at.

One gives up friends who care more about their own opinions than they do about insulting and mistreating their friends; I think it is a simple as that.

And yes, you can know people well for years, and get surprised by this. Personally, I’m like the person further up the thread – I no longer have time for it.

Funny how Sarah Palin makes their heads explode, though! LOL

I have a friend who is a perpetual teenager. She avoids all talk of politics and current events. She would rather indulge her thrill-seeking gene in extreme sports (dude). We had a conversation the other day and Palin came up. This woman, who has had no opinion in the past, suddenly has one of Palin: that she is an idiot and McCain “insulted” her by selecting her as his VP running mate.

The MSM did a number on the idiotic, numskull public, I tell ya that.

Bad impersonation of Obama. would like to see some TOTUS skits and though they had the right idea here, they didn’t push it far enough.

I had a similar experience to yours.
I was talking to an old family friend who has a (closeted) lesbian daughter who’s a union-dues-paying schoolteacher, IOW, a huge angry Liberal.
My friend usually votes Republican but the daughter pulls her to the Left.
She started in on “Hey, how about all the to-do over Rush Limbaugh? I know you like him so…”
Then, it was on to,”My husband likes it that Obama is gonna tax those who make over $250,000.” (Her husband is a cheapskate loser and in a pinch, a horrible rascist from darkest Louisiana.)
Then, for some reason, the subject of Sarah Palin came up.
Before the (now ex-)friend had said of Palin during the campaign that Palin should just go back to being a mother to her children, but this time, she went off on a rant about Palin and anyone else who was pro-Life or in her view, “against abortion.”
She then began to discuss 2-3 women she’d known who “had no choice” but to get abortions.
I strongly suspect one of them was the ugly daughter, “one got raped while she was drunk on a fraternity bus…”
The other was some woman having an affair with a married man. (Couldn’t have been her, right?)
Anyway, she talked about having an abortion as if it were changing the oil in your car.
I was so sickened to hear infanticide discussed in this way that I had to terminate the conversation then and there.
I don’t think I’ll ever talk to her or consider her a friend worth having ever again.

Happy to say, I found out my cousin and my next door neighbor love her as much as I do, while I cannot see my Obama-voting neighbor across the street without wanting to slap her!
