Video: SNL goofs on America’s new CEO-in-chief

In which the recession becomes an arena for gladitorial combat between struggling companies, with Emperor Hopenchange delivering thumbs up or thumbs down as appropriate. Not so much “funny ha-ha” as “funny this-isn’t-nearly-as-far-from-reality-as-it-should-be.”

I saw this last night. I`m afraid the laughter was more about the who “won” and who “lost,” than the fact that he`s gaining total control of private enterprise.
I don`t think that NYC audience really gets it.

I just won’t click little ha-ha skits of Obama when they specialized in viciousness with every Conservative since 1976.

He needs to work on his Obama voice. I just wasn’t feeling it.

SNL is pretty fair and balanced compared to, say, Jon Stewart. They’re still making fun of Clinton, even in this piece (my biggest laugh of the bit).
Kafir on April 5, 2009 at 12:01 PM
Not funy. The voice was off a bit. Not nearly “ponderous” enough.

Yeah, I was kind of upset that the opening of SNL got preempted by this presidential spot.
Still not sure why the Steelers got contracted but not the Detroit Lions.

Ed and Mitch on the NARN a couple of weeks back said that with “A” being civil discourse with the government and “Z” being all out armed revolution, that we are maybe at “B”.
Uh, may I suggest reading the above quote a couple of times and re-figuring where on that “A to Z” scale we are again?
Amendment X on April 5, 2009 at 12:02 PM
But, kind sirs, why shouldn’t the greatest Orator of the millenium be allowed to decide who lives and dies in the business world? It only seems fair.

Ha Ha – I wonder how they picked the companies??
Eventhough it is a comedy show i would imagine some
of those companies will be pissed. I don’t think 7-UP will
be running spots on SNL??
But really – next year watch how the democrats start picking
union vs. non-union companies to support.
Ford is probably having serious discussions with workers on how
to get rid of the UAW.

This is a repost from a headline thread a bit ago. You may be onto something.
Oh, it already has begun to get nasty. I may have lost a close friend this week over our political alignment. I walked out of his house Tuesday and haven’t talked to him since. His brother, also a friend, called last night to let me know that his brother thinks I owe him an apology. With some of the words that were exchanged, we both owe each other an apology. I do want to make amends, I just have not quite decided how to handle it, what to say.
My friend is what I call a typical prejudiced Liberal. He will defend to a point of ignorance anything stamped with a (D) and persecute all things (R). He is very easy to trap in debate so then he obfuscates, deludes and goes off on tangents about the evil Boooshhh!! There are things about Bush that I like, some I don’t. I will own up to the things I don’t like that he has done. My friend, on the other hand, will dismiss the mounting negative list of achievements by Obama because they are things that are now needed because Bush put us in this position. As a point of reference, he thinks Maddow is just the coolest and Olbermann is OK. He has me convinced that he equates politics with a sporting event; and this man is 50 years old. Frightening.
Now, a bit of background on my friend. He once made six figures working in project management. For whatever reason, he got out of that and moved into another industry during a boom time. That boom dried up, {cough, cough, real estate} and he moved into less lucrative endeavors. Back in September, he hated his job and quit prior to obtaining other employment. Well, you know what they say about that. He’s not been able to find gainful employment since, though his conservative Christian wife has maintained her job and the roof over their head.
I’ve done OK for myself for a man of 40. Over the Winter, I made considerable investments in manufactured lead, brass, steel, aluminum, polymer and powder. I then heard, from the man with the $500K house while staning in the kitchen of my $200K house that “it must be nice to be able to spend money like that”. I politely dismissed it with something like “yeah, but you never know when it can end, it doesn’t rule or define who I am”. Then I offered an older item from my stock for home defense and he declined.
I guess the tipping point on Tuesday was when he told me my policies are based in greed and are simply self-serving. The phrase that sent me out the door was when he said “You don’t care, you make six-figures and just don’t care if people are suffering and you’d feel differently if you lost your high-paying job”. I just said “So, you want the government to fix your problems?”. He did not see a problem with that solution. At that point I think I called him a f@$%&ing idiot and left.
A little about the greedy me:
- I’ve adopted two children and one lives with me today because my ex-wife and nobody else would hang in there through his problems.
- I donate to my church and community.
- I’ve sponsored a young boy from the Philippines for four years through CI and always contribute “extras” for holidays and birthdays.
- Over the holidays I purchased, packaged and mailed over $500 worth of goods to send to the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
There are others but, that’s enough. It far outpaces his contributions to society whether he was gainfully employed or not. I’m feeling less than inspired to make amends after writing this. I guess that makes me “greedy”.

Speaking of Gov. Paterson, I watched him at a press conference on TV yesterday and noticed how he can speak quite well without a teleprompter. He never once said “Uh” or lose his train of thought. I’m not saying I agree with his politics, but the man is a lot more eloquent than Obama.
Disturb the Universe on April 5, 2009 at 12:19 PM
Yes it’s the same actor. He’s been doing well and if you check out the SNL debates, even though he was trying to be over the top on some of them (to show how ridiculous conservative lampooning of him was, in retrospect, he wasn’t too far off the mark).

real FREAKIN FUNNY SNL! How about the people who are losing their jobs at some of those companies? Everyone’s letting people go. You think they got the joke? You think the people who work for a soon to be gone GM think it’s funny? How about the small and med companies that live off contracts w GM and Chrysler? Oh sure, those people laughed their butts off.
My post-911 sympathy for New York City is officially GONE

Sounds like he quit his paying job to cash in on the boom. Talk about greedy.
Lazy. He twists himself into a pretzel to avoid going back to work.
Mooching off his wife.
Ick.
keebs on April 5, 2009 at 12:30 PM
That’s the problem with jokes aimed at Obama. They’re based too much in reality to be funny. Instead they’re borderline chilling. The GE gag in this skit is 100% true.
Doughboy on April 5, 2009 at 12:34 PM
I hear you. I haven’t spoken with my sister since last October because of similar actions. Her view is that America is “already a socialist country,” so to her, it makes no difference if we step even further in that direction. That is, only up until it comes to her money or her house, as it turns out.
It is maddening to me when it gets to that point. It’s ok with her so long as it is someone else who has to pay the price.
The crappy part is even after the inevitable tax increase (or worse) hits her in the face, it will be a Phyrric victory, and I’ll derive no satisfaction from the “I told you so” game, because we’ll all be the losers then.
Oh, and I didn’t vote for Obama because I’m a racist, according to her.
Otis B on April 5, 2009 at 12:35 PM
Did you notice the audience’s laugh seemed more out of nervousness than a relaxed haha laugh. Maybe that pollster that O’Reilly uses with the live graphing should be used here to really gauge the humor (or scare factor).

We’re toying with the idea of replacing our old Suburban with a new one since there are such good deals out there.
Do you it would be naive to trust CEO Obama to cover the warranty on a giant SUV? He said he would, but he’s said a lot of other things that he’s gone back on.
juliesa on April 5, 2009 at 12:40 PM
Do you *think*
juliesa on April 5, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Good point. I don’t think I would. Just Like TARP after you get the agreement the rules will change. Like only autos will be warranted, not SUV’s (you should have known SUV’s are akin to executive Bonuses).

This NTAC just does not have Bambi’s voice down pat. He really needs work in that area if he wants to go down as a memorable SNL presidential impersonator. Or else SNL can get Paul Shanklin to record Bambi’s lines and have the NTAC lip sync them.
Percy_Peabody on April 5, 2009 at 1:02 PM
Man, that would have been hilarious. They should have done that. Its funny because its true.
El_Terrible on April 5, 2009 at 1:06 PM
I think we simply have to lose some friends in all of this.
I have managed to keep some of mine by not talking politics (that is, letting them mouth off while I stay conspicuously silent), but in my heart, they are no longer friends as they once were.
Some time last fall I decided that a true split in this country was not unlikely. In other words, I think push may well come to shove.
I thought about the principles I wanted to uphold, and I decided those principles were more important, and upholding them for my children was more important, than any friendship, no matter how close. I think you are going through the same thing right now, with this friend.
I think you can possibly repair this friendship, but I also think it will never be the same, just as mine have never been the same for me. And never will, unless those people come around a bit. (And I don’t think this particular friend is necessarily worth repair.)
I chose my side last fall – that of liberty over tyranny – and I expect my friends to eventually do the same, or they will simply be on the other side. Sad, but it’s a fact. They will be on the other side.
(Though I think if push did come to shove, and shove was winning, they’d rationalize and mealy-mouth themselves right quick over to the shove side.)
Alana on April 5, 2009 at 1:18 PM
I imagine when you are legally blind a tool that requires vision at a distance is not a viable option, e.g., you actually have to learn how to speak publicly without visual aids.
BKennedy on April 5, 2009 at 1:19 PM
I had a similiar experience over 2 years ago with a neighbor and fellow church member who is a rabid Democrat. He consistently blamed Bush for everything wrong in his life.
One day he was complaining about his taxes and how it was Bush’s fault. Of course the taxes he was referencing were state taxes of which have been controlled by Democrats for years. He stated many times that “rich Publicans” like me should have to pay for people like him. I have not been a registered Repub for years because I am a very conservative person and feel that the Repubs do not represent me anymore.
Anyway I finally told him to leave my property and never set foot on it again unless he wanted punched in the face. What is so annoying about this man is that he claims to be a Christian (since the age of 16) yet he never reads the bible, never tithes properly, never takes care of the gifts God has given him. Over the years he has pissed away over 600 acres of farmland that would be valued at well over a $1M using todays prices. I have no more sympathy for this man or others who vote for evil and have decided that there is no reason to engage with such people because they cannot be reasoned with.

DarkKnight3565 on April 5, 2009 at 1:27 PM
The crappier part is how it is people like us who once “rang the bell” will be faced with the decision of who we can help. I have a $70 backpack with probably around $400 worth of goods in it and weighs in at ~20lbs. Lead, brass, aluminum, polymer and powder excluded, of course. I have three people to care for out of this bag and the “other” bag should I need to. I live 30 miles outside DC and work three blocks from the Whitehouse. High population area, I won’t be here if things get to a point. If that point is reached, I’ll have to decide very carefully who I help and share resources with along the trail. It most likely will be those that can provide some type of reciprocal benefit and that have buried their “Hope and Change” flag in the backyard of their overextended, soon-to-be foreclosed home that I will help. The others, I think I will just hand them cards with thepeoplescube.com printed on them and say “Sorry, this is all I have
brothercomrade”.MarkABinVA on April 5, 2009 at 1:28 PM
As for the SNL skit, I’m glad they did it. And I’m not going to nit-pick it.

Yeah, I agree with the rest of you–this guy sucks. His voice isn’t deep enough, and he didn’t pause and say “uh” or hold his ands out (aaaaaaaaand) long enough. His face is too round as well, needs a pointier chin. But, at least they are now making fun of the Messiah . . .

I certainly hear you. While it hasn’t reached that point with me yet it is solely due to the both of us agreeing that anything political is completely off bounds between us. The problem here is my only daughter, age 35. Trust me, she was not raised this way, but she has become a liberal to the 9th degree. Is violently anti-gun (the girl was a SGT in the Army for heaven’s sake!) a green freak, a global warming true believer, and absolutely refuses to watch any news and wants to know nothing about world events! Her reply….she reads a paper every day and that is all the info she needs. Her ‘local’ paper, the St. Petersburg Times I think it is. MY biggest objection to all of this is that this is what my very bright 9 year old granddaughter is hearing/learning. The only saving grace here is that she adores her Gammy (me) and if Gammy says it, it is from God. :) I got a note from her teacher earlier this school year, they were having a discussion in Social Studies about the upcoming election and there were many voices ‘supporting’ Obama. Lizzy spoke right up and said “If you vote for him he is going to raise your taxes.” Her teacher asked her what made her think that and she told him “my Gammy told me so and my Gammy is never wrong.” :) But since they live in FL and I in TN I am not there often enough to give another side to what she hears. As for my daughter, she has gone insane, that’s the only way I can look at it and eventually she will regain that sanity. Just don’t cause my grandbabies to be similarly of unsound mind! My son, BTW, is a sound conservative. Go figure?!

Boring, boring, boring……there is so much coming out of the WhiteHouse these days that SNL could have used, yet they put this piece of crap out to their audience. I stopped watching them a long, long time ago – I see no need to change my mind. Personally I think they are so caught up in being PC, they are unable to produce “anything” which focuses on the president, for fear of being called racist, etc.

Two colas and no lemon lime. That–is a very good summary. I almost never drink colas but I guess now I’ll have to begin. Im sure it has something to do with carbon foot print not taste or color. And it’s patriotic or something. Dear leader knows best.
This sickens me.

You can’t reason with a liberal so I don’t try. I think that in order to be a liberal you have to abandon whatever reasoning capability you have at least from the political perspective. I have a left leaning sister that I love so I never talk politics with her.
Isn’t there an old saying that you should never discuss politics or religion with your friends?
docdave on April 5, 2009 at 3:03 PM
I think it’s happening to all of us. I truly feel for you and the loss of a friendship, but there’s no question in my mind you took the only possible course.
I’ve tried for years to be non-judgmental and just let it go, and have found that “liberals” increasingly go to any lengths to start fights. I think there’s no alternative but to avoid these people, which in my area means staying inside. Sad, and awful.
Best wishes.

I try not to lose family over things… But there was this cousin who cussed me out in a phone message 2 weeks before he committed suicide. Shame, at one time he was merely annoying, but by the end, his mother was the only family member that would talk to him, and she was also the one who found him stiff in her 2nd floor apt.
-
However, I am totally willing to cut loose any and all Obamite ex-and-soon-to-be-ex-friends. Especially when I know that they were all anti-Bush for the past 8 years. I refuse to be contaminated by that specific mental disease. If they hated Bush, and dislike what is happening now with Obama, that’s one thing. But blind, zombie like support for the snatching away of our freedoms is worthy of a sound and lasting “bu-bye”.
-
By the way… the Clinton line was the best. His legacy, sad as it is.-

Liberalism is a mental disorder. I think Mike Savage coined that quite a while ago and it just becomes more evident everyday.

I was impressed to see SNL criticize Obama’s actions at all… sure, it could have been better, but it’s a start.
Weekend Update also had a piece on his gift-giving. It did say the Queen’s gift was as bad as the iPod, but the punch line was okay… suggested that Obama stop asking Sasha and Malia for ideas about what to give foreign leaders.

My “local” paper was also the St Pete Times, until the day after they endorsed Hussein. I cancelled my subscription and let them know why by phone and in writing, and yet they still are calling, begging me to sign back up. I liked their independence, but not their political editorializing. They just don’t get it, they don’t see the writing on the wall, even as they watch their beloved libtastic paper dwindle and the staff get laid off. They even have their own journalism school here, fer chrissakes!
At the urging of family and friends, I joined Facebook about a month ago. What I am finding is a disturbing feeling of TMI (Too Much Information) about loved ones around me. I’ve noticed that some of my family has signed up to be “fans” of Hussein and his America-hating half, and although its cringe-inducing to me, I’m gonna leave it alone for now. As for me, I’m a fan of Glenn Beck, Angie Harmon, and Gary Sinise, so it should be pretty clear to them where I stand.
But we’ve already lost a friend (and cat-sitter) in our next door neighbor, a rabid Dem, which we didn’t know about until after the election when politics came up. Over a bottle of wine one evening a couple months ago, my wife mentioned her admiration of Sarah Palin, and it got ugly…you should have seen the frothy foaming mouth and wild crazy eyes that her name elicited. Then of course we were also called racists cuz we didn’t just lurve our new halfrican Precedent, even tho’ we never mentioned race, just his politics. She’s white (the neighbor), see, and was once married to a black man, and so of course her opinions held more value, and we just couldn’t relate, in her opinion. We also found out she’s still very bitter about losing their love child to a miscarriage. In short, any sort of rational discussion had no chance of surviving.
Even my mother, a devout Catholic, supported Hussein the baby-killer, which really blows my mind. So I’m treading lightly with political discussion with my family, hoping they will come around in time, but I’ll be out there joining the tea parties and campaigning against the Uh-Ohbamadministration. Fortunately my sisters don’t live here, so we can remain on speaking terms :p
…sorry, I just felt like rambling this fine lazy Sunday afternoon…
Oh and the SNL thing?…I didn’t watch it…

SNL has been a lost cause for a decade at least. It isn’t merely boredom or being offended or disgusted and put off; it is all those together on TV now.
I’ve given up wasting the effort to stay awake only to be disappointed by Leno, Letterman, SNL or MAD TV. If they’d broadcast South Park on network against the current choices, I’d watch again.
Until that point, I’d rather read or fall asleep with a free imagination. Late night AM radio guests on Coast To Coast provide better entertainment value than late night TV.

GOOD!
This past month online, someone made a hilarious illustration at Pepsi’s expense. I should have made note of it, but at least recall the hearty chuckle.

Dr. Pepper certainly has the flavor to shoot holes in Pepsi’s ancient “younger generation” riff.
maverick muse on April 5, 2009 at 4:20 PM
Mark I hear you, but why do you feel the need to express your worth as a function of how much of your wealth you’ve given away? I understand and appreciate what you’ve done for the troops. It is all of our responsibility to do what we can to help them and you’ve stood up for that principle. But the other things, these are all nice things that you’ve done –that you were able to do–because you figured out how to make money. They do no legitimize your income. Using them to defend your income only legitimizes your friend’s premise that the purpose of your work is to support others.
Enjoyment of the fruits of one’s labor is not a sin. The only reason your charity reflects any virtue is because you freely chose to give it. Your income does not flow from your charity. Your charity flows from your income. Be proud of what you have earned. Only those who produce can afford to help others.

Mark, this is happening all too frequently and I truly understand where you are. My husband and I have “friends” like that and since we are rapidly approaching elderly status we decided that we don’t have a lot of time left to put up with our Liberal “friends”. Life is too short and since the election they have become insufferable. Fortunately our family is mostly Conservative and for that we are grateful.
I was talking on the phone to a very old and dear friend who now lives in California. She has a new husband who spent quite a bit of time in the teacher’s union. She was never a Lib in all the time I have known her, yet all of a sudden she has gone down that path because new husband has been a Lib for ages. We were talking about how the two states from which she receives her pension are going bankrupt. I happened to mention that there are very few states that are managed well, but Alaska is one of the few. Well, that unleashed a tirade about Sarah Palin that absolutley floored me. She has never been particularly interested in politics but the rant was very vicious.
She changed the subject, but I don’t think I will ever feel the same about her again.
It’s sad and I guess you have to make up your own mind about your situation. It’s time to make new friends and put yourself in situations where you can do it. Now we know where the Patriots are and we must join up with them. I don’t think we have the luxury of putting up with the toxic ones anymore. Time to move on and get our country back.

SNL is just NOT funny. the clip was over 5 mins and and i got maybe 1 slight chuckle and one brief laugh out loud moment (Bill clinton and the “stroke” mags, but that’s an old joke I always laugh at).
Bad impersonation of Obama. would like to see some TOTUS skits and though they had the right idea here, they didn’t push it far enough.
And why is there always one idiot who hoots and hollers loudly onver the whole crowd? Usually a woman, and usually a liberal?
Daemonocracy on April 5, 2009 at 7:44 PM
Will Obama pick SNL or MADtv?
They forgot that decision, not having a real sense of humor, just a sense of jokes.
profitsbeard on April 5, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Yeah, too durned creepy to truly laugh at. In addition to the voice, he didn’t have the er’s, the um’s, or the uuuuhhhh’s. Needs to work on the cadence too. I think that’s part of Ogabe’s allure (to some): the sing-song mezmerizing cadence.
bikermailman on April 5, 2009 at 8:14 PM
This skit is poor but to be more realistic, the guy would have had to look from side to side like he’s watching a tennis match. Plus, every other word would have been “uhhhh”. Jay Leno has had better jokes.
Our family no longer communicates with my niece. The day after the election she called/emailed everyone rubbing it in that obozo won and she said we were racist for not voting for him. She is 23, uneducated, and a pathological liar which explains her insanity.

DocDave – AGREED. Arguing with a Liberal is like trying to reason with a mean, angry drunk. Their brain’s reasoning center has been shut down by their intoxication with Gummint Cheese(tm).

Question for all (you can even start a betting pool):
At what point in the future will all of American wonder,
“Why did we find this funny?”
TimLenox on April 5, 2009 at 8:55 PM
This unfunny skit was good in that it shows that mainstream America is beginning to see through the BS with a little help from SNL.
How long will it take until his approval numbers equal Pelosi and friends?
mad scientist on April 5, 2009 at 9:12 PM
Exactly, BetseyRoss!
This is what I thought to myself, also. Find new friends. Go to a tea party. Find people who not only have their heads on straight and love their country, but will actually join together with you to accomplish something good.
So much better than listening to friends screech about Sarah Palin or whatever. Without the slightest consideration, I might add, to how you feel about it.
Alana on April 5, 2009 at 10:01 PM
Totally agree. BTW, is it just me or is his Obama impersonation getting worse?
Oh, and check this out:
http://toughbastard.org/
I’m not sure it’s true, but Conan once claimed that his show had to by hornymanatee.com after saying it on air. He claimed it was the law. Not sure if that’s what NBC did here with toughbastard.org, but it would seem to be the case.

Add me to the list of folks who have lost friends due to our political differences, mostly due to Facebook. Some just regurgitate what they hear from the MSM, but some are die-hard liberals who actually understand what they’re saying. One in particular told me that abortion was a fine alternative to adoption when an “inconvenient” pregnancy occurred. I am adopted, I was an “inconvenient” pregnancy and this person knows it. This person also told me he took my criticism of Obama as a personal attack, right after he wrote his abortion diatribe. Tell me, which one is closer to a personal attack?
The perfect example of liberal hypocrisy.

The Steelers were bashed while the Cowboys and Giants were OK.
Why?
Cause the Steelers just ain’t cool. Doesn’t matter if their owner loved The One. They ain’t cool for that bunch in the audience for SNL.
When did the Cowpokes win a playoff game again? Was it 1980′s or 1990′s?
IlikedAUH2O on April 5, 2009 at 10:22 PM
Oh and the SNL skit sucked for many reasons, the least of which is that it’s just not funny.
citrus on April 5, 2009 at 10:22 PM
may have lost a close friend this week over our political alignment. I walked out of his house Tuesday and haven’t talked to him since.
MarkABinVA on April 5, 2009 at 12:07 PM
You neocons are a pathetic bunch. You give up on lifelong friends and family because of your rabid worship of Rush and Co. Have you ever heard of not discussing politics and religion at social events?? Huh? This just shows the true nature of people with a narrow-minded view of the world and what is important. RELATIONSHIPS ARE IMPORTANT NOT YOUR SIMPLE MINDED POLITICS!!!
Blueneck on April 5, 2009 at 10:31 PM
I guess this is how Obama came out of Chicago unscathed, huh? /sarc
Show me your friends and I’ll show you who you are.
citrus on April 5, 2009 at 10:36 PM
This is so simple. What radio talk show host loves the Steelers?
Rush of course! It was a shot at him as well.
Being from the Detroit area I could tell you why the Lions were spared by SNL-Obama. But that would mean getting into local politics and how the people running Detroit are for the most part incompetent or insane. And somehow no matter how bad things get the people of Detroit still give them a free pass to continue making bad decisions and letting things get worse.
Gee not that I re-read that it applies to both the Lions and the Detroit city council.
mechkiller_k on April 5, 2009 at 10:51 PM
I had a similar experience to yours.
I was talking to an old family friend who has a (closeted) lesbian daughter who’s a union-dues-paying schoolteacher, IOW, a huge angry Liberal.
My friend usually votes Republican but the daughter pulls her to the Left.
She started in on “Hey, how about all the to-do over Rush Limbaugh? I know you like him so…”
Then, it was on to,”My husband likes it that Obama is gonna tax those who make over $250,000.” (Her husband is a cheapskate loser and in a pinch, a horrible rascist from darkest Louisiana.)
Then, for some reason, the subject of Sarah Palin came up.
Before the (now ex-)friend had said of Palin during the campaign that Palin should just go back to being a mother to her children, but this time, she went off on a rant about Palin and anyone else who was pro-Life or in her view, “against abortion.”
She then began to discuss 2-3 women she’d known who “had no choice” but to get abortions.
I strongly suspect one of them was the ugly daughter, “one got raped while she was drunk on a fraternity bus…”
The other was some woman having an affair with a married man. (Couldn’t have been her, right?)
Anyway, she talked about having an abortion as if it were changing the oil in your car.
I was so sickened to hear infanticide discussed in this way that I had to terminate the conversation then and there.
I don’t think I’ll ever talk to her or consider her a friend worth having ever again.
Funny how Sarah Palin makes their heads explode, though! LOL
Happy to say, I found out my cousin and my next door neighbor love her as much as I do, while I cannot see my Obama-voting neighbor across the street without wanting to slap her!

Here’s a big middle finger to NBC for not letting me view this video from Peru. Anyone have another link to this video?
anticucho on April 5, 2009 at 11:53 PM
I have a friend who is a perpetual teenager. She avoids all talk of politics and current events. She would rather indulge her thrill-seeking gene in extreme sports (dude). We had a conversation the other day and Palin came up. This woman, who has had no opinion in the past, suddenly has one of Palin: that she is an idiot and McCain “insulted” her by selecting her as his VP running mate.
The MSM did a number on the idiotic, numskull public, I tell ya that.
keebs on April 6, 2009 at 12:20 AM
Why do you leap to the conclusion that I was ever the one who brought politics up? Or the others?
*They* start ranting, on Palin, for instance. *They* are rude enough to assume that naturally everyone with earshot (which is usually some distance) agrees.
I have responded to questions, though – big mistake. Like “Who did you vote for?” Back in the day, a person could answer a question like that from a friend without being screeched at. Times have apparently changed.
I give up lifelong friends when they not only insist on talking politics, but what’s worse, insist I either agree with them or get yelled at.
One gives up friends who care more about their own opinions than they do about insulting and mistreating their friends; I think it is a simple as that.
And yes, you can know people well for years, and get surprised by this. Personally, I’m like the person further up the thread – I no longer have time for it.
