Kos: Conservatives like to shoot cops
posted at 1:24 pm on April 5, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
The boss has noted the tragedy in Pittsburgh, where a lone gunman killed three police officers trying their best to defend their community:
A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and “lying in wait” opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.
Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns. …
The three slain officers were Eric Kelly, 41, Stephen Mayhle, 29, and Paul Sciullo III, 37. Kelly had been on the force for 14 years, Mayhle and Sciullo for two years each. Another officer, Timothy McManaway, was shot in the hand and a fifth broke his leg on a fence.
Today is Palm Sunday, and I’d ask Hot Air readers to keep these men and their families in your prayers.
Unfortunately, some sick people will use this tragedy for their political hobby horses. We’d like to think that only the idiots at the fringes would do so, but as my decidedly liberal and decidedly rational friend Tommy Christopher found out, that’s not the case. Markos Moulitsas twittered his list to blame the shooting on the conservative movement, and apparently joke about the murders:

I’ll let Tommy pick it up from here:
Dana Houle is a Daily Kos frontpager, not some tinfoil diarist, and Markos is the public face of the liberal blogosphere. Granted, his influence isn’t what it used to be, but he is still the most recognizable, the most closely-associated liberal blogger out there.
When I saw his re-Tweet, I was stunned, and I hadn’t even heard about the Pittsburgh shooting yet. I thought he was talking about the shooting in Binghamton. When I looked back at Houle’s Tweet, and I found the story of the three policemen who were killed yesterday, I could not believe my eyes. As you can see, I tried to get Markos to explain his re-Tweet, unable to believe that these two would be joking about this at all, let alone hours after the tragedy. …
Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I think this is shameful. This is the kind of thing I would probably delete at Political Machine. I don’t even see the humor in it, even setting aside the heartless ghoulishness involved.
Be sure to read the rest of Tommy’s piece, because he’ll need the support after taking on Kos. He thinks eight years of “mortal kombat”, as Tommy puts it, has momentarily deranged Markos. I’m not so sure that it’s momentary.
People on both sides like to take non-political tragedies and manipulate them for their own purposes. The Binghamton shooting occurred just before we went on the air Friday, and I remarked that both sides tried to use the Virginia Tech shooting to their advantage, and that I expected something similar from Binghamton. Some people refuse to acknowledge that lunatics do lunatic things, and it has nothing to do with the honestly-held policy beliefs of millions of Americans. Those who would use such horrifying tragedies to smear their political opponents are completely unworthy of engagement, and utterly despicable to boot, regardless of which side they’re on.
Update: Jim Treacher has another screen cap for posterity, just in case Markos tries burying this.
Update II: Don’t miss Caleb Howe’s take on this, either.

That somebody is Kos.

Black guy kills cops in Oakland:
Hot air thread on the topic is full of quasi racist/predjudice posts which justify the militarization of the police in black “ghetto” neighborhoods.
Conservative white guy kills cops in PA:
I’m HORRIFIED that anyone would try and say that all anti-Obama fans are like this guy. It’s one ISOLATED incidence. We should not, at all, crackdown on access to guns. This doesn’t mean anything other than one insane lunatic is out there.
I abhor what Kos did. I’m bemused that folks around here don’t recognize the tactics. They regularly engage in them.
DeathToMediaHacks on April 5, 2009 at 3:42 PM
What a bunch of snide effeminate little cretins.
I thought by their own standards it was bigoted to condemn an entire group by the actions of one individual.
They have no concept of liberty, but with the current trend, they will learn the hard way.
DeathB4Tyranny on April 5, 2009 at 3:43 PM
Conservatives don’t like to shoot cops. We like to shoot liberals. Now hold very still…

What evidence is there that the guy is a conservative?

Black guy kills cops and a segment of the population applaud him as a heroic figure for his acts.
I’ll not defend bigoted comments but let’s get the facts right, please.

Many here have been grumbling for months that they will use these nutjob murders as an excuse to come after you and me. My 1903, 1911, M14, ARs, or shotguns have never been used in anger (history of the 1903 and M14 might be the exception…but not used by me). No, just having them will make me a criminal soon.
Put me on your list, KOSsacks. I volunteer to be pointed out as one of the bad guys.

fred? was an easy target because he was NEVER serious about getting the nomination. He was a waste of a vote and I was proven correct about him. He was lazy and lethargic. Incidentally, I am going to find out what he did with all those campaign funds the fredites sent him. Remember the last batch of funds from a campaign went right into his families pockets.
I responded to your “evangelical” comment. As far as hating Palin and other are concerned, the complaints about them aren’t based on religion per se. It is based on the crazy zealotry of some politicians. Huckabigot is a perfect example. I haven’t seen any religious wackiness from Palin that bothers me. My problem with Palin started in Feb 2008. She is a conservative but she was handled by the McShamnesty morons like she was a window dressing on a collapsing building. I knew she was too inexperienced to handle a presidential campaign and I turned out to be correct…AGAIN.
She has the experience now and she needs to be left to handle her own campaign next time. Having made that point, I don’t think ANYONE would have saved this election for the country. Our fellow Americans, well intentioned as many of them were, were bound and determined to ignore the obvious Marxist ideology coming from Oslime-a and get rid of the McShamnesty types.

Moulitsas’s idea of “organizing” was to start a Hate movement that spread lies, gossip, and conspiracy theories while applauding the thug tactics of the extreme left.

What about the black guy in Oakland who just killed 4 cops, was he a conservative?? The left is getting loonier by the day, they think, since O is pres, they can say and do ANYTHING…. Sick F*cks.

Just ask all of the Democrat polticians who have attended the previous Kos Konventions, since re-titled Netroots Nation. Those who attended the first Kos Konvention include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Babs Boxer, Wes Clark, Governor Bill Richardson, and DNC Chair Howie (Jet Screamer) Dean.
At 3007′s Konvention, 8 of the 9 major Democrat Presidential candidates attended.
And at the 2008 event, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and inventor of the Internet Algore showed up.
So, I would say the answer to your question is YES.
Del Dolemonte on April 5, 2009 at 3:58 PM
Precisely.
Apparently, the belief that Obama will destroy the second amendment makes you a conservative.
The MSM was quick to frame the story.
Exit question to Democrats:
If Democrats are in favor of the second amendment, then what makes this lunatic a conservative?
Saltysam on April 5, 2009 at 3:58 PM
So the face of the netroots is just as bad as the lowest blog anonymous commenters imaginable? No argument there.
Jim Treacher on April 5, 2009 at 4:01 PM
Probably, as well as being a prime source for the MSM. Pathetic, ain’t it?
ddrintn on April 5, 2009 at 4:01 PM
As I recall from the fabulous(?)radical risin’-up-against-the-Man ’60s, only militant leftist/anarchist types shot cops. Kos types might be trying to rewrite that awful history, but I bet those lefties secretly love the idea no matter who pulls the trigger.
Liam on April 5, 2009 at 4:03 PM
“Quasi” leaves you lots of wiggle-room, doesn’t it? And did Allahpundit, Ed Morrissey or Michelle Malkin make those “quasi-racist” comments, or did commenters?
ddrintn on April 5, 2009 at 4:04 PM
Saltysam on April 5, 2009 at 3:58 PM
Another exit question to the leftist loons:
If it became increasingly apparent that the lunatic murderer was liberal in thought and originally voted for Obama (if the idiot voted at all), how long do you think it would take for this story to make it to the Media Blackout List alongside the Presidential Prostration?
Saltysam on April 5, 2009 at 4:07 PM
From page 90 of former Secret Service Agent Agry Aldrich’s book. As you may recall, Gary was trashed and the Clintons tried to prevent his book from being published. Curiously, however, they have never filed any legal actions against him.
Classy, eh?
Del Dolemonte on April 5, 2009 at 4:08 PM
Make that 2007. D’OH!
Del Dolemonte on April 5, 2009 at 4:10 PM
These dingbats. “When we were out of power”. Power belongs in the hands of the people, not the government. This is a fundamental difference between leftists and conservatives. Secondly, law abiding citizens must remain armed, if they choose to do so. The recent shooting stories in the news are proof of this concept.
long_cat on April 5, 2009 at 4:14 PM
I find this hard to believe, even thought the Clintons are…well…the Clintons, but when you add that no legal action was taken…
it makes me want to puke.
Saltysam on April 5, 2009 at 4:16 PM
Markos has in fact been a regular guest on NBC’s “Meet the Press”. As I recall at the time the first Kos Konvention took place in 2006, they gave him an entire 15 minute segment.
Sad, isn’t it?
Del Dolemonte on April 5, 2009 at 4:16 PM
I would recommend you try and find a copy of Aldrich’s book. When I was reading it for the first time back when it first came out, I just kept shaking my head.
This Chelsea incident is actually small bananas-the real damaging parts of the book deal with the laughable security in the White House when Clinton first arrived. Aldrich basically says that it was an “Animal House” atmosphere there.
That alone was enough to scare the getalife out of me.
Aldrich has admnitted using second hand sources for several of his anecdotes. But if even only 10 percent of what he recounted was true, it was still 10 percent too much.

Liberal protesters are always more peaceful. Why just look at how calm and quiet London was last week compared to the violence and destructive tea parties conservatives are currently having.

What channel was Alex Jones on last time he was on a major news network? I’ll bet it’s your number one most watched news channel.
DeathToMediaHacks on April 5, 2009 at 4:30 PM
Those are happening? Yeah…way to make a splash.
Look here’s the point here. This isn’t about what a “conservative” did. This is about the beginning of what I imagine will be a wave of violence that can be somewhat traced to the Beck/Levin’s of the world. And they are NOT conservatives. They are radio hucksters/demagogues. Their goal is to get you angry because anger = striking a chord with people = listener loyalty = greater ratings = more money for them. And like I continually say that’s ALL those assholes care about. Noboddy in the GOP is to blame, conservatism as a philosophy is NOT to blame. Nor are variosu wedge issues like gun rights to blame. But these demagogues have been acting a fool from November 5th onward and it’s not surprising that something like this has happened.
DeathToMediaHacks on April 5, 2009 at 4:33 PM
What makes this lunatic conservative, hack?
His lack of control over his actions prove he’s a gun-loving liberal.
Saltysam on April 5, 2009 at 4:34 PM
You just equated the face of the Netroots, an NBC fixture and Newsweek columnist, with a complete kook. You really suck at this.
Jim Treacher on April 5, 2009 at 4:40 PM
We’ve got entire academic departments at most of our major universities teaching the most outrageous nonsense about this country. Stuff that make what Levin and Beck say sound positively sober and restrained.
If we’re going to go down this path where the admittedly over-the-top comments by public figures are going to be connected to violent actions we need to go all the way with this and starting focusing on the incendiary comments from either side of the aisle.
Look, you think corporations are evil and repeatedly denounce them. Are you inciting violence against them?
SteveMG on April 5, 2009 at 4:41 PM
Are you kidding? Your criticized NBC for having on Kos, even though he has some political legitimacy while ignoring that your beloved Fox allowed “kook” and total racist Alex Jones on THEIR air as a political commentator. Sean Hannity is also known for allowing anti-semite biggets on his air.
DeathToMediaHacks on April 5, 2009 at 4:41 PM
Mark Levin has never advocated violence! He IS a conservative and a constitutional attorney. Therefore when he speaks of Constitutional breaches he knows what he’s talking about.
Beck I know nothing about, but I will agree that the left will use any nebulous link to conservatism in order to disarm the public.
For public safety, of course!
vapig on April 5, 2009 at 4:44 PM
It’s one thing to be on the air as a guest, it’s another to be a source.

And it’s bigots (yeah, a shot back at you).
SteveMG on April 5, 2009 at 4:47 PM
Please point out where I did that.
And yet you just compared him to Alex Jones.
A cable news channel had somebody with extremist beliefs on the air? You’ve cracked this case wide open.
What’s a “bigget”? Settle down, your mascara is running.
Jim Treacher on April 5, 2009 at 4:50 PM
Sigh….you really don’t believe that? Didn’t we go over this once before?
So you have a Vietnamese immigrant, a guy who lost his job and a Black felon all kill people, and you blame Beck and Levin? What proof do you have for your assumption? An what about the “surge” in parents killing children? What pundit are you going to blame for that? That’s what I thought.

Correlation does not imply causation, and I am being generous even describing the swill you are peddling as correlation.
So, we have three mass shootings in a relatively short time where we have some insight into who the shooter was and what motivated them:
NY: “America sucks”. Probably not a Levin fan.
PA: Seems to be white power trash and an anti-semnite. Probably not a Levin fan.
CA: Felon on the run shoots police officers. Probably not a Levin fan.

Lets see… Which President of the U.S. is it that has friends and supporters who advocate killing cops / attempted to kill cops / actually killed cops…. Was it the Conservative one? I forget…. It couldn’t have been the liberal – marxist 0bama could it?
How many liberals and other 0bama voters since the 1960′s have advocated killing cops, compared to how many actual conservatives advocating?
I don’t mind idiocy… it is the natural state of half the populace. I do whoever mind those who proudly display their idiocy for millions to see.

Heh. The comment which Treacher snapped for posterity could have been said by Bernadine Dorhn or Billy Ayers.
Months ago I came across a “progressive” blog called Ornicus (they fancy themselves as being open minded Unitarians/rainbow people or something) who seized on a single case of a mad gunman and drew the irresponsible conclusion that it proved that talk radio (and Rush Limbaugh) is just like Rwandan radio.
Naturally they have seized on this horrible tragedy and they’re running with it. They have a book in the works…
Anyhoo, I predict that Obama will manage to slip in a few comments about talk radio this week.
