Disgrace: Danish PM to finally apologize for Mohammed cartoons?

So says PoliGazette, citing a Dutch newspaper. Hurriyet, a Turkish news service, has it too. Simply appalling, and all the more so because it seems to be motivated by nothing more noble than Rasmussen’s personal ambition to be appointed head of NATO. Evidently, begging Muslims’ forgiveness for supporting free speech is the price of winning Turkey’s support. This makes twice now in the span of two months that a European pol who took a stand against Islamic violence has paid a political price for doing so.
The kicker? He’s going to do it in Istanbul.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Denmark’s leader, was one of the few European politicians who refused to give in to pressure from fundamentalists in the Middle East when a Danish newspaper published the now infamous “Mohammed cartoons.” His attitude was welcomed by may Europeans, especially by conservatives. He was quickly promoted to “hero of the freedom of speech,” and became one of the old continent’s most popular politicians.
But then something changed. Rasmussen set his eyes upon NATO. He wanted to become the organization’s next secretary general. An ambitious man, he proved willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals.
Follow the link to PoliGazette for a trenchant point about what this’ll do to the secularist cause in Turkey. Meanwhile, Tapper posted an item last night at ABC about the impasse between Denmark and Turkey and how a certain smooth-talking Lightworker heroically intervened to heal the rift. Omitted were details about just what The One said or did to forge a compromise. The question: What role did our very liberal president have in acquiescing in or even encouraging this total betrayal of liberal values?
Obama, Rasmussen and [Turkish President Abdullah] Gul had another conversation, for about an hour, according to Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. Jim Jones (Ret.), and White House press secretary Robert Gibbs…
“As a result of the dialogue between the three heads of the state, they found a common ground that allowed Turkey to believe that their legitimate concerns about terror were going to be addressed, and Denmark, the Prime Minister found common ground to where, in his capacity as Secretary General, that Turkey now feels certain that he will take their considerations — take under account their considerations Alliance-wide,” Jones said.
When the three men returned to the main session, Jones told reporters, they had smiles on their faces, indicating that a deal of some sort had been clinched…
Said Jones: “I think it was a very helpful moment. I think that our President really was instrumental in bringing about this common ground and finding this common ground — and as a result the Alliance has a new Secretary General elected unanimously.”
I’m going to try to get Tapper’s attention on Twitter to press him to follow up. Stay tuned.
Update: Tapper’s on the case. He makes a good point about the sketchiness of some European media so I’ve added a question mark to the title, but Hurriyet is a mainstream Turkish paper with high circulation. Presumably a lot of Turks are expecting an apology tomorrow now. If one doesn’t come, that may end up being a story in itself.
Tapper also insists that Obama didn’t have any say in the terms of the negotiations, merely in bringing the parties together. That sounds very different from the description in last night’s item about an hour of “dialogue” between the three.

I love Denmark. It is so sad to see it sink to such a low. Accomdation with the Muslim world is going to destroy Europe. Bush had the best plan, really. Build a working democracy in the heart of the Middle East. That however was underminded by our current President and his legions.
We simply can’t give up our liberties to please these maniacs. They must accomdate us.

We’ll see mucho apologies over the next 4 years to be sure, but NOT the one you’re looking for. Most will basicly be apologies for the US’s very existence. It’s wealth and prosperity is being “worked on” as we post.

I know Bush might have thought he was doing good but what happens in Iraq will have no effect on what happens in Copenhagen and Rotterdam. The Muslims in the West will have to be made to leave or forcibly deported. This sounds extreme but really what else is there? Millions of Germans had to be transported back to Germany after the war.

This Rasmussen fool is amazing. Doesn’t he understand that the Muslims and the leftists already hate him? All he’s doing here is pulling a George Bush, or a Jim Cramer — sucking up to the people who hate him, with the inevitable result that both sides are going to despise him with a passion from this point forward.

This is a total shame, because Rasmussen’s unwillingness to cower was exactly what made him a great candidate to lead NATO. This just completely undermines the entire thing.
Is his ascention official yet? I’m trying to hold out hope that he just goes to Istanbul and tells the Turks to get over it.
Red Cloud on April 5, 2009 at 7:32 PM
Yep, seems as though radical islam is winning.
ErinF on April 5, 2009 at 7:32 PM
So is the apology a condition of becoming head of NATO or does he view it as a way to get there?
Either way, that Obama pushed this guy as the head tells us where we are.
lorien1973 on April 5, 2009 at 7:35 PM
It’s a Barack Obama apology.
He was reported to be going to Turkey earlier in the week to lend his support to the Alliance of Civilizations. That’s an Islamic Brotherhood dominated organization designed to unite the world’s religions for “peace.” This is his sickening contribution and there will be more to come.

“Stop, stop, we ran out of virgins” – my absolute favorite of them – just scroll down a bit.
Rasmussen now joins the other teeny heads of Europe.
Real gonads are indignant.
Fox Sunday showed a medley of the O-EU-trip scenes, queen included, but NO bowing and Arsch/ball licking of the Muslim potentates.
Btw, the cartoons are harder and harder to find. Save this link, if you wish to have them later. Links I could access, even recently, have disappeared.

One other thing on Rasmussen – it turns out in the end that he’s just another politician: willing to turn his back on his principles for what is personally expedient. Getting the position was more important to him than standing up for what he obviously believes in.
Red Cloud on April 5, 2009 at 7:47 PM
I am astonished at GEN James Jones. To be at the political table he is selling out every private conversation he ever had in regards to foreign policy.
He is fast becoming a disgrace to the uniform he wore so long.
Jdripper on April 5, 2009 at 7:51 PM
I doubt he has the balls, but it would be fun if Rasmussen gave one of those non-apology apologies. “It is unfortunate if you were were offended.”
IF you were offended – not actually admitting that one’s words were offensive. And using passive voice so no subject is identified. “It is unfortunate:” but I didn’t actually say I was sorry.
Then go on to explain freedom of speech and freedom of religion.
But as I said, I doubt…
Wethal on April 5, 2009 at 7:52 PM
I’m not in favour of it. Sorry if I was unclear. My point was that the Turkey that joined NATO (and contributed troops to the Korean war) no longer exists today. Islam is acendent in Turkey. They remain in NATO through force of habit. This is, I think, a mistake. Turkey should be kicked out of NATO and ally themselves with Sudan or some other charming OIC country. That won’t happen as NATO is only interested in expanding (Croatia and Albania joined a few days ago) but in a sane parallel universe it would be nice.

Yep, see how disgusting it was for the One to give the Europeans lines that made them squirt something viscid all over them; not to forget making the females’ Grafenberg spots go crazy, just by berating us, the Americans, on their soil.
No CiC had ever done that before, not on foreign soil. It’s a new day and our country is becoming mediocre, like all the others already are. They love us for it.
What irony that the N. Koreans showed the One a huge finger, and stuck an even bigger iron rod up his preening-in-Europe ars, just about when he was to start his “no more nukes” grand speech.
