Dedicated to my beloved boss, the biggest Michelle Obama fan of all. No doubt Greg Hengler could have made this 10 minutes long if he’d wanted to — there’s no shortage of fawning footage available — but blog readers like things snappy so he wisely observed the three-minute rule. In fairness, I think only part of this is attributable to lefty bias; the rest is due to the media’s fascination with royalty and fairy princesses (see, e.g., Diana and Caroline) and their enthusiasm for facile historical parallels that lend themselves to easy narratives. If you think the Jackie Kennedy comparisons are heavy handed now, imagine if the G20 was being held in Paris. Good lord. They’d be re-running Jackie’s White House tour daily on MSNBC.
Incidentally, Mrs. O’s favorable ratings are near majority levels even among Republicans. Just sayin’. Click the image to watch.

strangelet is right. A thousand royalty/fairy tale puff pieces could have been woven from the Sarah “narrative,” had the press so chosen. Allah’s premise is wrong – this is a flow chart of simple decisions, not a complex decisionmaking process.
Question 1: Is the woman in question liberal or conservative?
If the former, write the puff pieces and construct the fairy tale narrative.
If the latter, proceed full steam ahead with the politics of personal destruction.
So the press’s treatment is entirely political. They simply never give the royalty treatment to anyone but liberals.

I was a kid when Jackie Kennedy visited Paris. Believe me, Michelle Obama is NO Jackie Kennedy.
I cannot find a photo online that depicts Jackie leaving the plane in Paris. But I did find the following:

Yesterday those photos were in a Daily Mail headline that said: The first ladies of fashion: Michelle Obama and Sarah Brown set the style standard.
That ensemble was not flattering at all. The sweater was too small and pencil skirts should be worn by slim women only.
However today I can’t even find that article. Instead I find this when I clicked on the old link:

Aren’t First Lady approval ratings usually pretty high as long as they stay out of the political arena?
I’ve had no issues with Michelle Obama since she stopped giving political speeches on her husband’s behalf where she spoke of how horrible and mean the U.S. is. As long as she maintains the usual First Lady role of staying out of politics and focusing on humanitarian efforts, I won’t have an issue with her.
If she goes the Hillary route though and she steps into the political arena, I reserve the right to take issue with any stupid policies she comes up with. The flip side is that I will wholeheartedly support any good policies she comes up with.

You do not have to be slim to look fashionable and respectable. However, you do need to know what works well for your figure type and what is appropriate for the occasion.

That sweater is horrid, and this is the second time I’ve seen her in a pleated skirt. She is way too bottom heavy for a pleated anything. Not to mention, what adult woman actually wears pleated skirts anyway? I haven’t seen her in anything yet that I actually liked, except that dress she wore on The View. She’s about as far as one can get from being a “fashion icon” imo.

I just don’t care what a First Lady wears. I never did. I always found threads on other sites with multiple women dishing negatively about what Laura Bush wore incredibly tiresome. (FTR, I am female.)
What is more interesting to me is that Mrs. Obama is getting the “OH MY GOD THEY NEVER LOVED A WOMAN SO MUCH IN THE UK” treatment. Liberal women are always gorgeous, brilliant, accomplished and loved by all, no matter the reality. It’s annoying as hell.
