Video: Michelle Obama sails to Britain on a sea of media slobber

Dedicated to my beloved boss, the biggest Michelle Obama fan of all. No doubt Greg Hengler could have made this 10 minutes long if he’d wanted to — there’s no shortage of fawning footage available — but blog readers like things snappy so he wisely observed the three-minute rule. In fairness, I think only part of this is attributable to lefty bias; the rest is due to the media’s fascination with royalty and fairy princesses (see, e.g., Diana and Caroline) and their enthusiasm for facile historical parallels that lend themselves to easy narratives. If you think the Jackie Kennedy comparisons are heavy handed now, imagine if the G20 was being held in Paris. Good lord. They’d be re-running Jackie’s White House tour daily on MSNBC.
Incidentally, Mrs. O’s favorable ratings are near majority levels even among Republicans. Just sayin’. Click the image to watch.

LOL! Sorry, Altan, you’re out of your league here. Laura Bush never killed anybody.

I don’t have any negative attitudes towards the First Lady. She’s ok. I hate when people call her names or make fun of her physique. That’s just tacky.
Hey thanks for posting the Kennedy Tour. What an elegant lady Jacqueline was. She really knew her history and was a class act.

Doing my best Getalife
Our President is to be adored for bowing to the Saudi King.
We should be proud that Mrs. Obama can touch the Queen.
May she enjoy her Ipod.
I am so proud.

And while Michelle Obama is feted for her “beauty,” Sarah Palin’s actual beauty is brought up only to support deriding her as an imbecile.

I’m so glad we have a fashion icon in the White House instead of the frumps that came before her. Our very own Princess Diana. Life is good in the USA in ‘09.

I’m probably going to get gigged for this, but I think Hillary was pretty well dressed, knew how to act and how to hold herself out as the FLOTUS. Bill had his flaws and whatever. Let’s not go back to the 90’s and let’s not go back to the Bush era. Let’s focus on what we have. Here and now.

Don’t look now, but it looks like capitulus has revealed something about his thinking too, with his “loser whites” remark.
There’s plenty of racism on the left. PLENTY.

AP should be able to ban everyone who compares Michelle to Chancellor Gowron when I don’t have to see posts by getalife and capitulus.

Why on earth are you talking to youngO that way?
capitalist piglet on April 2, 2009 at 7:09 PM
I think Michelle Obama looks like a strong beautiful woman and I love her sense of style. Why people wan’t her to be Jackie O, I have no idea. Bottom heavy? I’m black and most of us are bottom heavy so there I don’t understand the aversion to it or why its a always mentioned as a problem. I think my bottom heaviness is what cause my husband to crane his neck. :)

Not only are you a troll, but I’m guessing a plant, sent here by Kos, or some other idiot freedom-hating blog, to try and flush out the conservative “racists” of HotAir.
Oh, and did I mention you are a racist?

Why not fire up the Google machine and check it out for yourself, grandpa. Better yet, just put on Matlock and fall asleep in front of the tv.
capitulus on April 2, 2009 at 7:26 PM
I dunno about Michelle Obama. I grew up poor and wore hand-me-downs like many. I worked my azz off and grew conservatively, dressed appropriately. I think if I got an invite to tea with the Queen of England I’d suffer myself to ensure that I was dressed appropriately.
/Doesn’t she have a stylist and mentor?
Key West Reader on April 2, 2009 at 7:29 PM
They have indeed embarrassed us, but why should we embarrass ourselves, or embarrass those who would wish to support us, in response?
I don’t dispute any of your observations, and I don’t find them to be inappropriate in any way. I was referring to those comments that could easily have come from a Kos hating-on-Palin party. Criticize that which merits criticism; rude comments about her body are unnecessarily divisive. Honestly, looking at some of the stuff on this thread is truly disturbing. We want the Obamas, who are indeed worthy of condemnation on a dozen fronts, to show more decorum, so perhaps we should evidence that we value it ourselves. I ain’t saying I’m perfect, but this has gone into ugly territory and I find it embarrassing. I do not intend to swap roles with the Bush haters, and I believe we reduce our influence and credibility when we go there. I don’t care that they did it first and continue to do it, I don’t want us to become them.
Maquis on April 2, 2009 at 7:41 PM
Hilarious. It’s like “keep saying Barack’s brilliant, and soon enough people will believe it!” Mrs. Obama is by no means “sublimely beautiful”. Then again, neither was Jackie Kennedy, but the Kennedy fetish these libs have is funny.
It ain’t about race, buttercup. That’s your side’s game.
ddrintn on April 2, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy may have been adverse to sharing the limelight she surely knew the Obamas would get, but I cannot believe she thought she would be compared unfavorably. When she visited England with her husband last year she looked terrific with true fashion chic.

If BHO was white, he would have beat that old coot and his idiot sidekick by 15 points instead of 7. It amuses me every day to know that racist white America has to suffer under a black president. That’s some funny stuff. And the fun is only starting!

BS
96% of blacks voted for Obama.
In 2004, 87% of blacks voted for Obama.
Those 9 percentage points and all of the people who voted for the first historic black president made the difference.

I think there are a couple of reasons some of us feel free to rake Michelle over the coals.
1. Barry O has shown himself to be arrogant and a bit cruel
— He barely protested when the press went after trig
— Middle finger to hillary
— Middle finger to McCain
— HIS campaign made fun of a vet’s disabilities – Anyone who tries to say he wasn’t aware of that gets the “dumber than dog poo” seal from me
— He stood by as the press unfairly savaged Joe the Plumber. It was more of a wink wink nod nod
2. Michelle has shown a Cruella like side
— “I’ve never been proud of my country”
— A racist thesis
— Etc
Now, when people in the press try to shine something that isn’t gold and try to tell you it’s gold, there will be backloash. Barry and Michelle are egotistical narcassists.
Just as an aside. I was in the hardware store. A young girl who works there came over and was absolutely bubblly. I’m thinking.. “What the heck is going on.. She must need new glasses to be fawning this way over an older, heavieer, greyer, balder, dressed in work clothes guy”.. As we were walking out it hit me. My son was with me just out of his karate class. If I had Obama or Michelle’s ego I would have thought “DAMN I”M HOT”… and the press would have echoed “DAMN He’s HOT”…
It’s Allah and Eds site to do what they want with. However, the weilding of the ban hammer reminds me of some funny incidents with people playing with nunchucks… 15 minutes later they are wondering what happened.
Anyway, the reality is that OBama and Michelle are in tight with a guy whose group had plans to murder 25 million americans. The reality I’ve gotten used to is that there iss a damn good chance I won’t make it to 55. If that happens a lot of other people I like on this board will be in the same boat. Also, keep in mind that the left and right define the center. The left keeps pulling us further and further and there is little backlash from the right.
Anyways, gotta go earn some money.
One final thought… I think that there are a couple of reasons you are seeing the backlash against michello
1. She is full of herself
2. The press is drooling
3. She has shown herself, from everything I’ve seen, to be a nasty person inside. THe hatred seems to ooze out of her.
4. Mark Twain, I believe others have quoted, said something about some people not being able to survive ridicule.
5. You didn’t hear anything similar about McCain’s wife.
6. The only thing you heard about Sarah Palin was the MILF jokes.
7. If you look at Todd Palin on the male side compared with Michelleo, it is a lopsided victory for Todd. However, how much fawning did you hear in the press??
Nope, we’re screwed and stewed. Might as well have some fun .
Hey, Maybe there is some hope. There is a big tea party in my area soon. Let’s see if that gets any traction

There are a limited number of ways to view Michelle Obama:
Some small number — my wild guess is about 2% — just flat-out hate her because she’s black. This is (really) deplorable.
A somewhat larger number — my wild guess is about 13 percent (i.e. 95% of African Americans) just flat-out like Michelle Obama because she’s black. That’s a bit troublesome, but because of the “historic nature” factor, I think it’s (really) understandable, just this once.
A lot of conservatives, based upon her statements that were arguably anti-American, augmented by her own and her husband’s left-wing views, are holding a grudge.
A lot of liberals, based upon her statements that were arguably anti-American, augmented by her own and her husband’s left-wing views, think she’s just great.
But a certain class of liberal — the reporters, pundits, university profs, that sort — are inclined to like the Obamas based upon their left-wing views, but crank the knob to MAX because they want to be sure everyone knows FOR SURE that they aren’t racists. Have you ever seen two insecure men whose hands accidentally touch, so they start talking about hunting and scoring with babes to be sure the other guy knows they’re straight? The overwrought praise of the Obamas strikes me as a similar phenomenon.
Biden’s comments about Obama being “clean” and “articulate” speak VOLUMES about how these guys see Obama. To them, he’s like a talking dog. It’s not so much that the dog is saying anything that interesting, but that he can talk at all! Bush rightly called this attitude, where people with dark skin receive disproportionate praise for their accomplishments, “the soft bigotry of low expectations”.
