Romney: We must acknowledge when Obama is right
posted at 7:55 pm on April 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
He must be running in 2012 because he surely can’t believe this will endear him to anyone except independents.
“I also think it’s important for us to nod to the president when he’s right,” Romney said, after chiding the president’s budget. “He will not always be wrong, and he’s done some things I agree with.”
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said he’s pleased with the president’s plans to “finish the job” in Iraq and Afghanistan — lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president for standing up to the auto industry.
“I hope he continues to be tough and shows some backbone because that industry is not going to make it unless we have real backbone and get those guys to fundamentally restructure all of their obligations,” he said.
I have no problem with him saluting The One on Iraq, but … he still can’t offer a critical word about Obama canning GM’s CEO? Play to the independents if you must, Mitt, but throw the base a little red meat now and then. Surely Sarahcuda is at least mildly peeved at the thought of the president dictating to America’s business elite. Exit citation, from the Fox News poll I just wrote about: Maybe Mitt knows what he’s doing.

Second look at Obama/Romney ’12!!!!

We must acknowledge that Romney is a tool!!!
He looks like a president……but that’s about it….

RESPECT.
Allahpundit on April 2, 2009 at 8:00 PM
romney isn’t wrong.
politics isn’t a sports team, folks.
there is a right and wrong that goes beyond party lines.
that said, i’m still waiting for obama to be right on a single thing.

Romney/Sanford 2012?
Allahpundit on April 2, 2009 at 8:00 PM
I like Mitt, but there is no reason why he has to be so overt in saying you don’t have to disagree with every policy Obambi is pursuing, aka Iraq. I think that’s about it though.
Lance Murdock on April 2, 2009 at 8:00 PM
what is this, ali g?
Seven Seas on April 2, 2009 at 8:00 PM
Yeah, that gets my moral courage award. It sure takes a brave and fearless leader to take on a crippled industry while it is swirling around the bowl.
A Balrog of Morgoth on April 2, 2009 at 8:01 PM
If (and I stress the ‘if’) Obooba is ever right, I guess we should acknowledge. But going on his record so far, I think Obooba could go his full four years without ever being right once.
rmgraha on April 2, 2009 at 8:01 PM
Obama chooses between Cap ‘n Trade and Universal Health Care to spend his political capital on, and chooses UHC.
…like RomneyCare?
And now all of a sudden Romney is patting Obama on the back for nationalizing GM? Mister Free Market loves the centralized economy?
What a coincidence.
MadisonConservative on April 2, 2009 at 8:01 PM
We have to get rid of Romney. I knew he couldn’t be trusted and isn’t a Conservative. We need to get a big Rino gun and go hunting. (no violence intended) I just have to let off steam. I am tired of Politicians and especially Corrupt ones. It is time to yell out our Windows. I am mad as hell and I am not going to put up with this no more! Sorry for stealing Beck’s quote.

Mitt’s right… If Barry is ever right, we should acknowledge it… Just don’t hold your breath waiting on Barry being correct.

Mark Levin addressed this earlier and warned that some people might be angered by his opinion of Mitt’s statement.
Mark said that Mitt’s statement was obvious and that it was an insult for Mitt to think he had to give the lecture to conservatives about giving props to Obama when he does things right. There are plenty of things that Obama is doing that are actually harming our country. If he happens to slip up and do something within the semblance of being ‘good’, I will be the first to congratulate him.

I will admit when Obama is right just as soon as he admits George Bush was right about the surge.

Could you at least put your stuff in haiku gibberish form like getalife? See, that’s real craftmanship. That one-word minimalist approach does not allow for much nuance, if you ask me.

It still amazes me that half of all Republicans can have a negative view of Rush. It’s likely that an overwhelming majority of those who dislike him don’t ever listen to him, but the number still seems waaaay too high.

Mitt is too much of a boy scout… just like all the DC regulars. Zero comprehension of the nefarious intentions of democrats…and especially barry

I am not in Mitt’s base. We tried this wishy-washy, mishy-mashy, squishy middle, play to the ‘independents’. And it got us where?
No. No. No. I won’t do it again. I won’t take two shots of Jager and then go and vote for an asshat. I won’t do it.
HornetSting on April 2, 2009 at 8:09 PM

Heard Mark Levin too. He was on the money. Romney is so out of it by suggesting that Obama should be celebrated when right. Obama never is right. He is ruining this country. Romney’s Massachusetts roots are all out.

Sanford is a very interesting man. I have been studying up on him.
sheebe on April 2, 2009 at 8:10 PM

Allahpundit on April 2, 2009 at 8:11 PM
K… so when is that going to happen?
RightWinged on April 2, 2009 at 8:12 PM
I don’t know which is more disturbing:
the fact that he might believe that it is a good thing for a President to force the CEO of a private company out
OR
the fact that it might just be smart politics because there are enough people in America that think the President is doing a good job when he dictates what private businesses can and can’t do.

Jindal/Sanford 2012.
Mitt is done, stick a fork in him.
omnipotent on April 2, 2009 at 8:14 PM
I will try this again since my first post got booted for some reason:
I am not part of Mitt Romney’s ‘base’. We tried the middle of the road, move the tent, wishy-washy, mishy-mashy, squishy middle before. We got our butts handed to us by a tool that wouldn’t fight back against obama.
Where did it get us? McCain/the moderates may be fighting against obama on the economy, but when amnesty comes around, and it will, McCain will be all in and helping to get votes to destroy forever, the conservative party.
No. No. No. I do not want to take two shots of Jager to vote for an impotent candidate again. I won’t do it.
HornetSting on April 2, 2009 at 8:15 PM
It would indeed be nice if Mitt would show some backbone, testicles or something but to say the the “One” is right on anything thus far rather than that America is chock full of suckers est. 63 million of them that are going to be hoodwinked into believing this hopey-change nonsense.
larvcom on April 2, 2009 at 8:15 PM
Rovin, how have you been? We should let the New York times die. Darfur will never be saved. We need to save our Country first. Is how I feel.
sheebe on April 2, 2009 at 8:15 PM
I don’t like Romney. I do like Sarah. I can’t stand Obama. That said, GM asked for money, hat in hand. The man with the money set the conditions. GM had the option of saying no. Obama didn’t fire anybody.
Buford Gooch on April 2, 2009 at 8:16 PM
I’ll acknowledge when Obama is right when, and only when, he actually is. So far I’ve only seen one good decision out of him: Retaining Secretary of Defense Gates. God only knows what kind of clusterf()<k we’d be in if Obama had chosen one of his people for the post.
Browncoatone on April 2, 2009 at 8:16 PM
There you are. I think the second one is MUCH better. Sorry.
HornetSting on April 2, 2009 at 8:16 PM
Hate to say it, but 2 Southerners on the ticket means pretty much the same electoral map as 2004, maybe with lots more blue. People say Palin isn’t ready, but Jindal is even less so, from what I can tell so far. And I don’t know about Sanford.
ddrintn on April 2, 2009 at 8:16 PM
Look, lets not even go down the “we tried X type of conservative in 2009 cycle and it didn’t work” path.
The fact of the matter is, if the economy stinks come 2012, our nominee’s stance on abortion or how much they loves guns and gay people will not matter. They’ll have a cake-walk.
Trent1289 on April 2, 2009 at 8:16 PM
He is not exactly the smartest candidate is he? Does he not remember Hillary Clinton? She was so busy waging a general election she lost the primary.

Maybe I’m naive, but I don’t see the GOP standing any chance at all if they go with a retread. And why does anyone want to? There’s a small handful of brilliant young conservatives and I think any one of them would bring more excitement to the table than Mitt.

97% of the black vote went for Obama. That wasn’t about guns, abortion, economy, gays or any of it. It was about race. Nothing will be a cake walk.

Mitt’s comments are fine. He knows there’s enough time for Obama to develop a pattern which will allow him to point to where Barry crossed the line.

athensboy on April 2, 2009 at 8:22 PM
Indeed, but, first, they typically go for democrats at levels of 89-92% anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. Second, they did it for “history,” if their wallets are still hurting, you’ll see the peel off to normal democrat levels or worse.

We are in a culture where bipartisanship only includes voting with the marxist/liberals, and those of the left spare no effort in the ad hominem demonization of anyone who does not toe their line. These same marxist partisans identify, isolate, and deliberately destroy their enemies. They do not win elections by the vote, but by partisan lawyers and recounts. They try to restrict the speach and actions of all who happen to not agree with them. They give no quarter. That fool McCain proved that; Sarah Palin demonstrated that. The marxist/democrats are a total axis of evil. They can not be defeated by giving them “nods” when in your sick mind you think they happen to be right. Think back, Mr. Romney, you twit, In the last 20 years, name even one instance where the marxist/democrats gave one “nod” to a republican president or the leadership. Sc..w you, you useful idiot and fellow traveler. You have killed any chance that you will be accepted as a republican in anything.

I don’t think Romney plans to run again. I think he feels free to speak his mind. I wish however he would say more about this stupid stupid budget today. Of course there is nothing good that can happen no matter what anyone says. Obama and the crooks in Congress ARE going to steal that money. We can’t stop them.
But I support the troops I hope Obama owns the war and will really try to win there. I don’t plan to be a party to anti-war protesting with soldiers in harms way. No matter how much I dislike Obama’s attitude about business.
Although today he did seem to stand up a bit for capitalism when the Chinese journalist asked him questions. Obama actually said in America everyone wants to be rich. And we think that is a good thing. That was different than what he says at home… but hey take what you can get. And saying that before a bunch of stupid socialists and communist well that is pretty American of him.
