Great quote. Is that one of Treacher’s, too? :)

I do not agree with Jon Stewart on very much politically. He is however, very gracious, kind and intelligent. I am very glad to know him. He is a good man, even if he is a liberal.
Jdripper on April 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM
The Daily Show is the true Faux News.
The fact that many liberals consider it legitimate news is disturbing.

Interesting. Can you elaborate on the connection?
I liked Stewart about 16 years ago. He seems to have become so much more bitter since.

How much do y’all think that NY will be losing in taxes when Rush moves out? Also, all those audits would make anybody move out. What’s with that?

I’ve said it before, the thing that’s going to get his audience to turn on him is his age. He’s supposed to be the new hip cool comedian but he’s in his late 40’s and that just doesn’t work. (I’ve said it, for a good portion of his audience he’s old enough to be their dad.) I’m still surprised Barry hasn’t showed up on his show though. (I would have bet good money he’d be on in the first 100 days.)

The press and lib comedians knock down a charicature of Rush and they think they are being really smart and with it. But Rush’s audience is growing day by day and more people are finding out that he’s not a racist homophobe, and he’s for the country succeeding not failing. The press and comedians like Liebowitz are slowly being exposed as deceitful. Unfortunately, it’s not happening fast enough.
Christian Conservative on April 3, 2009 at 1:21 AM

Not much, because the only time he works in the city is when there’s a hurricane headed for FL, and he can’t risk losing power during a show.
TX has no state income tax, but the gulf coast is still subject to ‘canes. Maybe he could try Wichita Falls or Amarillo as his Western Command. They’re far enough inland that they should be as safe as NYC.

Rush isn’t the only one running away from NY. Investment capital is drying up in NY leaving nothing but skyrocketing unemployment behind and causing the need for more government services for fewer and fewer wealthy to pay. The wealthiest Americans didn’t get wealthy by supporting a bunch of arrogant socialists. All the bills liberals had planned for the wealthiest Americans to pay will be left for the middle class.

So having someone in town that kicks your ass in ratings and happens to be on the opposite side of the political spectrum from you, Mr. Stewart, is a bad thing?
I seem to remember a day when liberals fought FOR free speech instead of mocked and suppressed it.
Stewart, you are sometimes funny, but not enough for me to bother tuning in to your Jerry Springer-esque leftward rant show. Go flock yourself.
cannonball on April 3, 2009 at 2:28 AM
I don’t think I’ve ever heard Rush reach the level of meanness Stewart displays here. Rush definitely gets passionate and angry at times, but it seems to always be about how a politician is conducting the affairs of the government, the organization that has a monopoly on the use of force, in such a way as to lessen people’s freedom and spirit. I’ve never heard him yell at his political opponents to leave his city like that, like I imagine people who’ve never listened to him might think a monster like him sounds.
Stewart doesn’t address the tax increase and what its implications are. He spends three minutes telling Rush to get the fuck out of his city because Rush has a different philosophy on government than him.

Five minutes of explanation to James Madison, and he’ll have a pretty good idea what a motorcar is (basically a steamboat on wheels; the internal combustion engine might take a few minutes more). Then try to explain to Madison how the Constitution he fathered allows the president to unilaterally guarantee the repair or replacement of every component of millions of such contraptions sold in the several states [57 of them now I believe], and you will leave him slack-jawed.

When this economic crisis subsides, look for two phases of post-stimulus hangover.
First, with trillions of dollars in spending and debt for stimulus and financial rescue floating around, it’s a pretty good bet there will be as much outrage over what was wasted and corruptly spent as there’s been over the financial misdeeds that created the crisis.
The second phase will come when the government tries to untangle its suddenly large stake in private banking, insurance and transportation. Unless the U.S. is to become a social democracy — and Obama adamantly says it will not — that will be a greater challenge than most realize.
Like the war in Iraq, getting out could be just as difficult as the decision to go in.
MB4 on April 3, 2009 at 3:17 AM
What an ignorant idiotic thing to say! I stopped it after 1 minute. If enough Rush Limbaughs leave New York, then NYC goes belly up. Rush is one of the few top income earners that support just about all the government programs for the masses.
Kudos to Rush! I can see why New York and many other blue cities are in steep decline because of that whole liberal mindset of punish businesses and the rich.
I admit Jon Stewart is funny sometimes but this class warfare and “all conservatives are eviiil” mantra is so lame and boring. Wait until the chickens come home to roost when the rich have fled high tax areas like NYC. Who will have the last laugh then Jon Stewart?
sarahpalinfan99 on April 3, 2009 at 3:19 AM
When will the right wake up to the fact that this is WAR.
On one side it’s those who distinguish America’s greatness as the freedom it provides its individual citizen’s, and who also recognize that the source of that freedom is their property rights.
On the other it’s those who compromise individual citizen’s property rights because they believe they have a right to some undefined percentage of other’s property (via taxes, etc.)
They, Stewart et al, will never draw the line as to where their right to my money stops, and they will use all available means to take it.
We of the first kind are much more than unappreciated. We are hated – hated like a spoiled child hates their parents in the heat of a tantrum, except in this case the child(ren) are making the rules. (I.e., ..spending our way to prosperity, etc.)
Call me an alarmist but I say we must create an ideologically uncontaminated 3′rd party; one that can only emerge after this storm plays out; a third party that vigilantly protects individual freedom with the pen (ideas), and if that fails, the sword.

So Obama criticizes the ‘thoughtless rush to war’ in Iraq and probably Afghanistan, with ‘no exit strategy’ (except the victory strategy that conservatives and the military keep stating is their exit strategy, but which is verboten to libtards); yet he rushes into socialization of health care, energy and financial sector without an exit strategy. Congitive dissonance thy name is libtardom. As for Rush leaving New York, sorry to see you go, but someone with fame has to make the point that you can’t use the rich as a whipping boy/girl without reaping the whirlwind.

For those who don’t have the “benefit” of living in NY, let’s put this is context. I own 2 homes, each less than 2000 sq ft. My property taxes on the home which is on 1/2 acre is just over $10,000/yr. On my other home which is on 2 acres, the taxes are close to $18,000/yr, which includes the STAR Homeowner Relief.

Socialism does not eliminate the super-rich. It merely changes the method of allocating the big bucks, from people with the skills and resources to benefit the economy as a whole, to fundamentally useless people who have good political connections and tend to be ideologically contemptuous of wealth creation.
Doctor Zero on April 2, 2009 at 11:48 PM
It is more than that. in some regards socialism is an attempt by the elites to turn the clock back to the dark ages and the age of fuedalism. when the kings and lords(elites) lived by their own rules and gave the peasents (us) the crumbs. The elites do this by pretending to make everything fair for everyone but they never seem to live under the rules they set. See Obama’s picks tax problems for a clue. The elites think they are better then us and tthey do not want anyone making more money then them.

It’s hilarious and shows just what a complete NOOB Beck is and how foolish his supporters are. The guy literally decides what he thinks based on what he thinks he can get away with.
