Stevens is off on all charges. There's no reason Alaskans should not hold a special election when it obviously effected the results last time. Palin is right.

Er, didn’t Sarahcuda call on Stevens to step down after he was convicted last fall, before the appeals process had wound its way through the courts? Why is she willing to give him the benefit of the doubt now when she wasn’t before?

Unless you have been initiated in the super secret Paliniac blood oath ceremony you can never understand the ruthless intelligence and brilliance in her ambiguity...

FYI..... from the land of the Last Frontier.

It might come up here soon. But it may come to a special electon due to Begich's crap ideals and votes in the Senate that even some die hard Dems don't like. The Libertarian who was running has also agreed that a special election would be concidered good due to the media bias of Stevens.

Looks like it may come to pass. LOL Due to Media!

It sounds like someone from the government may need to go to jail, but that nothing has come up to clear Stevens of his wrong doing.

dedalus on April 3, 2009 at 10:26 AM

What wrong doing? When a prosecution has to hide evidence from a jury it points to an innocent man getting falsely convicted.

Prosecutors made a number of errors during the trial, officials said, the chief among which was the failure to make available notes of a crucial interview in which a witness made a statement that contradicted evidence he gave later under oath.

The prosecutors who made the error have been removed from the case and placed under investigation.

And ..

The Stevens case, the government's highest-profile attack on congressional corruption in recent years, was plagued by problems that continued to pile up even after a jury found him guilty. The last straw, apparently, was the failure of prosecutors to turn over notes of a crucial interview in which a witness contradicted a statement he made later under oath at trial.

And that is all that is being revealed. Actually, that is enough.

He did, but it was the contractors admission of not yet billing for the work that held the most water. You see, my boss also holds off billing until well after our work is completed, especially when there is no concern of getting paid.

Well let's see shall we. Hmmmmm? Mary was a weary traveler who gave birth to Jesus our true Savior in a manger and is the true son of God. Stanley Ann was a fellow traveler and had the second savior in Hawaii father by a man who had a big stable....

As far as the trolls are concerned Obama's mother is the modern world's version of the Virgin Mary.

Once and for all we, as Sarah's supporters, have to realize that these trolls are Fascists in the same sense as the Brownshirts, storm troopers and Gestapo of Nazi Germany were.

They must be swatted and destroyed as you would a bug on a window.

We must stop being CHARITABLE to Fascists and those who espouse Fascism.

We must take the attitude of claiming victory only on our terms, that is unconditional surrender of the Fascists. Nothing less will be acceptable: no compromise with the devil, no generosity of spirit to those who would wish to crucify our cynosure and no suspension of hostilities to accommodate white guilt or effete elitism.

You are right…it wasnt just me. It was my wife and I, especially my wife knowing where the girls are at all times and demanding they be home by curfew regardless of where they are.

The Wall on April 3, 2009 at 11:38 AM

Newsflash for ya' - girls can lie. Kids who have premarital sex do not run home and tell their folks. It could happen while at they're at school or home or anywhere (yes, even in private school) and it only takes a few minutes. Kids nowadays are sexting and doing lots of things without their parents knowledge or consent. Just read the news. You are just in denial.

Why are you so judgmental and harsh towards Bristol and Levi who are young teens who made a mistake and are working real hard to be good parents and turn their lives around? Would you be happier if they had an abortion? I thought Christians believe in forgiveness. Ever heard the allegory about the prodigal son and how that was his father's favorite son?

Are you aware that Obama's mom was a young single teen who had sex with a married man? The same things you say about Bristol and her baby can be said about Obama's mom and Obama. Obama turned out all right and even became POTUS, the most powerful man on earth. He is highly respected around the world regardless of the circumstances of his birth. He even commands the respect of the Queen of England.

Bristol has nothing to do with the subject matter of this thread. To use personal attacks that unrelated to the issue at hand sounds like something from the Alinsky playbook. I thought you said you were a conservative.

Whole thing was stupid... on everyones part IMO...

Stevens should be put out to pasture, as he's past the time when he should be serving...

But this was made a Federal Case... he easily could have gone to jail for the rest of his life...

Simple lack of communication between him and his accountant, suddenly spun into a national issue.

That type of thing is important for the 100 senators who have a vote on the allocation of billions of dollars. Stevens' use of earmarks for Bob Penny who then turned around and gave Stevens a ten-fold return on an investment is exactly what the GOP should be focused on and running against. The Dems will give them ample opportunity.

As one of the posters wrote, as much as anything Palin is simply bringing attention to this (as another election is unlikely). I wish the boys in the GOP had her courage.

dakine, Dave Rywall and PopTurd. I guess the Three Stooges are accounted for.

Has Stevens provided plausible explanations for the gifts that he received?

dedalus on April 3, 2009 at 1:57 PM

His explanation? Work was discussed, then done, but he was never billed for it...

Just guessing here... but he does have staff... he probably has an accountant... and he lives most of the time in Washington DC... so most probably someone else pays his Alaska Bills on a monthly basis.

Shouldn’t the GOP just bury Stevens and move on. Based on the evidence that has been published he was accepting hundreds of thousands in gifts and not reporting them.

dedalus on April 3, 2009 at 1:13 PM

OIC! The media is so credible that we should take anything they publish/broadcast as fact. Well, I'm certain that Obama would agree with you 100%

If <strike>Stevens</strike> the prosecution <strike>had stepped aside</strike> had followed the rule of law the seat could have been held by <strike>the GOP</strike> Stephens.

FIFY!

Don't bother arguing with the trolls...they claim guilt because Stevens was convicted...Conviction has been overturned by the AG and the case dropped.

Why??? Educate yourself on the facts. FBI agent Choy / whistle blower brought to light FBI agent and four DOJ Prosecutors falsified evidence, withheld exculpatory evidence, disobeyed a lawful court order to provide evidence to the defense and there is three more major charges...AG Holder overturned the conviction and dropped the case to try to stop the bleeding.

"I know, but why isn't it ever unfair in my favor?" - Calvin

Seriously, I don't expect anything to come of this...to me, it is just politicking, but if it works, it will place doubt in people's minds regarding whether the win by Begich was legit (as should have been done with Gregoire in 2004 or Lautenberg in 2002).

OT: Seattle was outplayed by Pittsburgh.

Really OT: Hull's skate was definitely in the crease. So, I guess that was unfair in my favor. But I digress.

Calling for someone to step down after conviction, but before th appeals process is concluded, is not wrong.

The Illinois legislature impeached Blago before he was even indicted.

Stevens was an awful Senator, but he was convicted in a rigged trial that Eric Holder (to his credit) has abandoned and repudiated.

Plus, the US DOJ violated its own prosecutorial rules against prosecuting a sitting polictian during a campaign.

So, Stevens lost a rigged trial and an election which was tied to his fate in that totalitarian trial.
