I think the most important factor here is people’s wallets. We are talking about economics and that is where everybody will measure them. In that respect you can see that 78% of Americans, including 75% of all Democrats, feel that no more than 30% of every dollar should be paid out in all forms of taxes combined. Well, I have some news. They pay much more than that now.

While many of the other questions are influenced by the current mood, this question is the type that would remain nearly a constant regardless of who is in office or what policies they pursue. That is where the conservatives need to pound home the message.

We need a good study that can put a number on how much the average American pays in taxes out of every dollar now. That will easily be significantly over 30% now. That is how we have to show to people that we cannot afford this budget and all the deficit spending.

It is beginning to sour, even the majority numbers here are not huge majorities, 51% is pretty damn slim.

As for the net negative on Republicans, I am not so sure that this is not as much from the right as the left. There are a lot of people out here wanting to see more pushback, not less.

Let that new cigarette tax grind on them for a while. The folks sitting around in the bars will have a great topic of conversation for a while … paying $6.50 a pack for smokes is enough to piss some people off.

Don’t expect to see a major poll shift based on the economy until we start getting close to the Christmas shopping season, because the swing voters who went for Obama aren’t yet ready to admit they were bamboozled last November.

And this is nothing new. Voters in 1993 didn’t turn on Clinton and the Democratic Congress right away, and the same was true with Carter and his Democratic Congress back in the late 70s (the Dems held on in the ’78 midterms, but the Prop 18 revolt in California was an omen for what was to come in 1980). The hard-liners will stick with Barack no matter what, but the swing voters aren’t just going to sit there and smile through two-to-four years of economic crap in an immediate gratification society.

Not a single person I know who voted for Obama has changed their mind. He is the one and can do no wrong. He is 100% rock star and they can’t get enough of him. Everything he has done is an astounding accomplishment never achieved before in this short of time. He has won over the admiration and adulation of all foreign leaders and is bring past adversaries to the table to talk change. If they could vote again they would do it with even more enthusiasm because it is more apparent everyday that the last administration was the total cause of all current problems and today has no worthy candidates that are even close to acceptable. Both Gov. Palin and Gov. Jindal are total jokes of the far right religious zealots. Furthermore all his programs are working perfectly and will gain momentum worldwide and huge changes will happen to make all situations better and safer. Fox News poll isn’t even close to correct. They must be polling themselves or the folks in their choir.
