Fox News poll: Public finally starting to feel bailout fatigue?

Hope and change from FNC. The One’s numbers are still rosy at 58/32, but that’s down from 63/26 just a month ago. On the economy:
Overwhelmingly, the public’s more afraid the feds are spending too much than too little, 67/19. Among Democrats, it’s 46/33.
A majority think Geithner’s in over his head, 51/31, although most say the administration as a whole is up to the task, 51/43.
Opposition to Obama’s monstrous budget is also at majority levels, 50/43, with independents breaking 55/37. Most think the trillion-dollar deficits over the next decade will do more harm than good, 53/38, and a huge majority fears that the national debt will never be paid off, 69/29 (Democrats 59/37).
A heavy majority now disagrees with the government’s decision to bail out struggling companies, 59/35, although I’m not sure how that squares with this:

Disapproval of the auto bailout is even sharper at 65/31 (Democrats 53/44), although there’s consistent support for heavy-handed federal intervention in companies receiving TARP money. A slight majority approves of the decision to force out GM’s CEO and 53 percent say booting the CEO of a corporation receiving government funds is more likely a necessary move to save the economy than something that goes against the American way of doing business. 64 percent also support letting the feds regulate executive compensation at TARP companies but 56 percent oppose letting them do it at non-TARP companies, which I guess is good news and bad news for Barney Frank.
The big winners in all this? The Blue Dogs. The GOP’s ratings are still in the toilet — a net approval rating of -9, down four points since last October — but the Democrats are at +16. Fiscally conservative Dems fearful of crossing The One can take heart in the fact that public sentiment on Great Society II is shifting, even if America’s appetite for the world’s biggest celebrity isn’t. Case in point, here’s my favorite question. Note the party split. Or, rather, non-split.

And here’s my least favorite. Add columns two and three and start worrying:

Exit question: That last bit of data aside, is this hope and change?

obama doesn’t care if the American people are fatigued. That’s not his concern. His only concerns are (a) permanently changing the American electorate to be heavily leftward (through amnesty), and (b) killing the Constitution.
ErinF on April 2, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Although? You make it sound like the two things are a contradiction. They aren’t.
MB4 on April 2, 2009 at 7:08 PM
I wouldn’t worry too much about the last one. The question is too nebulous for a good response.
What is a “government role” ???
I had Social Science 101 students who did better polling than most professionals.
CrazyGene on April 2, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Yet this P.O.S. still passed.
You ready to flush the toilet in 2010?
Spiritk9 on April 2, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Unfortunately I think you are right. Obama wants to reshape America to a Socialist one party state and he really doesn’t care how “fatigued” or upset the populace gets.
johnsteele on April 2, 2009 at 7:10 PM
or how many terms he gets after he gets there…

Overall, it doesn’t look very promising for conservatives, but….. once some of the new higher taxes are in place, and inflation rises….those numbers will perhaps change. Let’s wait, and see what happens between now, and that 100th day.
capejasmine on April 2, 2009 at 7:14 PM
Of course he doesn’t care. He’s only concerned with his agenda, come heck or high water. One must only reference the oh so classy comments made such as “We won” and telling fellow Dems the administration is “keeping score”.
It’s rule by intimidation and thoughtless disregard for what we need vs. what they “think” we should have (for our own good, of course). Those of us that cling to our guns and religion can’t possibly be trusted to know right from wrong, right??
SassyDarlin on April 2, 2009 at 7:15 PM
19 House dems voted against the budget, no Republicans for it.

The Blue Dogs are not looking forward to 2010….
the pity is unless they do the right thing, thereby guaranteeing their reelection in all likelihood, their loss will not hurt the donk “agenda”….
sven10077 on April 2, 2009 at 7:19 PM
I think that the circus as reported today will help Obama’s approval. Did you see Drudges headline? Hint: It’s not Obama bowing to the Saudi King. Buy it should be.

Brave doomed souls. The tyrannt is returning in apparent triumph and he will be looking to celebrate with blood sacrifice. And feasting. Hopefully not on the blood sacrifice.

winston on April 2, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Yeah, tell us something we DON’T know. Now, were there any polls taken about totus?
HornetSting on April 2, 2009 at 7:28 PM
Really? The public is finally starting to feel bailout fatigue?
Well damn, I’ve been having “dealing with the public being too stupid to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions printed on the heel” fatigue.
Looking at the poll numbers, my fatigue will continue unabated. Anyone think our voting public isn’t stupid enough to willfully vote to turn the US into Venezuela?
gekkobear on April 2, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Here would be the poll question I would like to ask:
“Do you feel confident that the most eloquent man since Billy Shakespeare is using the TOTUS for the best of the country?”
Upstater85 on April 2, 2009 at 7:31 PM
As ACE notes, his poll numbers are actually lower because people don’t want to be labeled a “RAAAACIST” for not liking Obama.
SouthernGent on April 2, 2009 at 7:35 PM
I think I figured this out:
Hope: Your voluntary tax dollars. Sucka!
Change: Your country being involuntarily converted to a
Socialist Country, right before your very eyes.
Yes: Yes you will.
We: Yes We will.
Can: Can change this country.
I’m willing to bet that Axelrod and Obama et al placed a bet on how short a time it would take to turn the World upside down.
Pretty interesting.
Key West Reader on April 2, 2009 at 7:35 PM
One of my friends bought a ‘Yes We Did’ obama shirt after the election as a joke for me. I wonder what slogan I should put on the back when I wear it…….hmmmm. Any suggestions?
HornetSting on April 2, 2009 at 7:37 PM
Still, no one ever has polled me. Ever. Anyone?
scalleywag on April 2, 2009 at 7:38 PM
Nope.
HornetSting on April 2, 2009 at 7:39 PM
I think the racist tag wore off about 4 months ago. Now it’s up to the Messiah. The Bad Assed Mo fo that;s gonna walk into the G-20 and change.. change.. change their minds. He’s gonna change the direction of the Country. He’s gonna change the direction of the World. He’s gonna put the world back on track. He’s gonna speak a new language of change. You gotta believe in the change. The change we can believe in!

How bout “You Failed”
Key West Reader on April 2, 2009 at 7:41 PM
I don’t know if I would put a slogan. Why not just put a picture of TOTUS and StupidUS giving each other “terrorist fist jabs” while Bawney is graveling on the ground – begging for the cold metal touch of TOTUS…
Upstater85 on April 2, 2009 at 7:43 PM
It’s meaningless to poll idiots. Most of these people don’t even know who Geithner is.
FuriousAmerican on April 2, 2009 at 7:45 PM
fauxnews to the rescue!
shifting. right. in other news, obama’s job approval is up a point at gallup today. his agenda’s totally sinking.
and in yet another news, noted moron calls for democratically elected senator to resign, because convicted felon senator disgrace is somehow not convicted anymore.
sesquipedalian on April 2, 2009 at 7:47 PM
Never, ever been polled in my life and I’m willing to bet I’m one of the oldest posters here.
I’m literally surrounded by lefty’s and their worshipping of TOTUS, but something strange is brewing. I ran into 2 moonbats today, their bumper stickers are gone and while they took every opportunity to laugh at my conversative values in the past 6-8 months, they have become silent for some strange reason.
Is that a good sign?
Knucklehead on April 2, 2009 at 7:48 PM
There is ample evidence that Obama will not sacrifice his agenda on the alter of either the constitution or the health or well-being of the American people (cap and trade, deductibility for charitable contributions etc…) . The guy is a narcissistic socialist megalomanic that can’t be bothered.
moxie_neanderthal on April 2, 2009 at 7:50 PM
O probably told them the “sticky part” of the bumper sticker causes pollution (for righties it’s eye pollution…)
Upstater85 on April 2, 2009 at 7:50 PM
As some have noted on other threads, it’s amazing to see how many O’bama/Biden bumperstickers have quiety been removed from cars in my part of the world, which went to Barry last November.
Interestingly enough, I did see a “Hillary 2008″ bumper sticker today.
That car’s owner might have the last laugh.
Del Dolemonte on April 2, 2009 at 7:51 PM
Not really, after all, O’bama won 70 percent of the high school dropout vote.
What is meaningless when polling is to over-sample one group over another. As is the case with last week’s NY Times/C-BS “poll”, which deliberately over-sampled Democrats over Republicans by 36 percent to get the desired result.
Del Dolemonte on April 2, 2009 at 7:55 PM
Has anyone seen this? Is this a late AFD joke?
Upstater85 on April 2, 2009 at 7:58 PM
Nope, it was Palin who made those remarks, not Joe Biden.
But that’s neither here nor there in relation to the public’s growing awareness of Democrat budgetary madness.

Probably. But the party of Dodd, Frank and Waters doesn’t have much room to talk. I’d love to see those 3 have to testify under oath.

Congressional Republicans poll lower than their Democratic rivals. And some people think the Dems will suffer a bloodbath in 2010. Whatever your smoking on that one must be some good sheet.

Greco-Roman Boy you sure are hanging your hat awfully hard on that 2-4 point gap….

sven10077 on April 2, 2009 at 8:38 PM
I’m old enough to remember the 1994 mid-terms very clearly. Up until election day I heard the same thing from moonbats. “Maybe a seat here and there, maybe they’ll win the Senate…the House? No way!”. You dingbats never learn. You win to lose.

Bailout fatigue?
When are they going to pose the question of Obama fatigue?
I got that five minutes into his absurd “race” speech last year.

Not a single person I know who voted for Obama has changed their mind. He is the one and can do no wrong. He is 100% rock star and they can’t get enough of him. Everything he has done is an astounding accomplishment never achieved before in this short of time. He has won over the admiration and adulation of all foreign leaders and is bring past adversaries to the table to talk change. If they could vote again they would do it with even more enthusiasm because it is more apparent everyday that the last administration was the total cause of all current problems and today has no worthy candidates that are even close to acceptable. Both Gov. Palin and Gov. Jindal are total jokes of the far right religious zealots. Furthermore all his programs are working perfectly and will gain momentum worldwide and huge changes will happen to make all situations better and safer. Fox News poll isn’t even close to correct. They must be polling themselves or the folks in their choir.

What’s the old saying? ‘Hope for the best. Prepare for the coming liberal apocolypse.’ Or something like that…
Onus on April 2, 2009 at 10:54 PM
Don’t expect to see a major poll shift based on the economy until we start getting close to the Christmas shopping season, because the swing voters who went for Obama aren’t yet ready to admit they were bamboozled last November.
And this is nothing new. Voters in 1993 didn’t turn on Clinton and the Democratic Congress right away, and the same was true with Carter and his Democratic Congress back in the late 70s (the Dems held on in the ‘78 midterms, but the Prop 18 revolt in California was an omen for what was to come in 1980). The hard-liners will stick with Barack no matter what, but the swing voters aren’t just going to sit there and smile through two-to-four years of economic crap in an immediate gratification society.
jon1979 on April 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM
Let that new cigarette tax grind on them for a while. The folks sitting around in the bars will have a great topic of conversation for a while … paying $6.50 a pack for smokes is enough to piss some people off.
It’s enough to make a man grow his own.
crosspatch on April 3, 2009 at 3:00 AM
It is beginning to sour, even the majority numbers here are not huge majorities, 51% is pretty damn slim.
As for the net negative on Republicans, I am not so sure that this is not as much from the right as the left. There are a lot of people out here wanting to see more pushback, not less.
Terrye on April 3, 2009 at 7:14 AM
I think the most important factor here is people’s wallets. We are talking about economics and that is where everybody will measure them. In that respect you can see that 78% of Americans, including 75% of all Democrats, feel that no more than 30% of every dollar should be paid out in all forms of taxes combined. Well, I have some news. They pay much more than that now.
While many of the other questions are influenced by the current mood, this question is the type that would remain nearly a constant regardless of who is in office or what policies they pursue. That is where the conservatives need to pound home the message.
We need a good study that can put a number on how much the average American pays in taxes out of every dollar now. That will easily be significantly over 30% now. That is how we have to show to people that we cannot afford this budget and all the deficit spending.

we have bankruptcy laws on the books to handle every problem.some people think they can go through life and never suffer, welcome to the real world obama is going to cause this country to go in to bankruptcy.he is like a small boy in a candy store and he knows what he wants everything ,and if we bag it up for him were just as foolish as that small boy.
