Video: Media can’t get enough of the sweet, sweet G20 destruction

Don’t ask me where the cops are here — busy tackling the bourgeois-hating Easter bunny, maybe — but do note the phalanx of cameras around the window-smasher. No way to tell if they’re all media, of course, but if those are protesters, they’ve got their hands on what looks like some mighty high-end equipment. I haven’t seen “anger” this lens-friendly since the last Pallywood blockbuster.
The CNN clip’s the only one you need, but I couldn’t resist giving you the MSNBC one too just for the reporter’s observation near the end of what these protests would have looked like if Bush was still president. So much for principled class warfare. Exit quotation from a 12-year-old on the scene, asked what she was there for: “The death of capitalism.”

Capitalism ended and all I got was this lousy Che shirt.
From a capitalist.
What?

They should have held the G20 in Texas – we wouldn’t stand for that.
BTW, love how an anti-globalist movement has so many pro-palestinian speeches….

The Europeans “get it”. Why don’t we?

So it begins. The left and right are taking to the streets.
gmoonster on April 1, 2009 at 5:40 PM
This applies here too. We are going to revitalize the vision of our founding fathers. We have to. The enemies are in the gates. The domestic enemies that our very founders warned us about. They are here now. The voice of our enemies is spewed by the keyboards that belong to the likes of getalife, capitalus, poptech, etc. They may be ignorant to this fact but they, along with every liberal democrat in power right now, along with every disingenuous lefty film maker, along with the getaway drivers in the mainstream media are all the voices of evil and oppression. They are the voices that scoff at individual liberty and freedom. They scoff at the bedrock priciples that this nation was founded on. And they probably scoff at me for saying so. Well that is fine because their time in power is going to be brief. Sure the damage will be great but I will not rest until I am secure in the belief that the idea of individual liberty will not be an unknown, unrecognizeable thing in the minds of my great, great, great grandchildren. Over my f*ing dead body will I allow the Barak Obama collectivists ruin this nation for them. If there was ever a time for great and thoughtful people to come together and stand strong in defense of liberty, it is now.

They must not have had no soccer game today. don’t they people work. Some may think I’m little over the top here but All you need is a 500 man police force and a couple of 60mm machine guns and you could break that up in 5 minutes. How long is it before the ACORN crew gets like this??

I am with you my friend. I have never felt the way I feel now nor have I ever wanted to take action to make things right.
I will be a Tea Party Patriot on Tax Day, but I am afraid that protests are not going to get attention or change much. I intend to resist the marxists in any small or large way I can.
I am no longer concerned about being labeled a racist, hatemonger, etc. They declared war on decency and the constitution and are laughing all the while. I got a BIG FU for all of the groups you mentioned and will work towards their failure. I am with you.

Does anyone else think that Obama is keeping himself out of the limelight so that all we see is raging and rioting? Curious how a man who loves being seen all of a sudden doesn’t want those cameras tracking his every move…hmmm

getalife on April 1, 2009 at 6:01 PM
I saw some idiot on Fox news saying all this is about the economy and the day would come when American soldiers were shotting angry Americans in the street. I am really get sick and tired of both the global anarchists and the disaster junkies who try to keep themselves and everyone else in a state of panic.
I can remember back when Clinton was president and one of these mobs really went nuts at some conference. This is nothing new.
Terrye on April 1, 2009 at 6:03 PM
This is truly disturbing.
TightAggressive on April 1, 2009 at 6:04 PM
Huh? This is much different than what is going on here with the tea parties. Altogether different.
We are patriots that respect reasonable rule of law. These are anarchists. These are more like the 60’s hippies.
Isn’t it amazing that this is the anti-war “peace” crowd — in fact, I saw a big peace sign on one placard — yet all their tactics are pure violence. Do they not get the irony?

Good question! I just heard a small soundbyte on the Republicans budget proposal, and it sure sounds better than the crap Obama is trying to peddle.
And now he’s trying to resurrect the “death tax”? I guess I’ll spend what I have left before I go or the Boy King tries to take it away.

Iblis on April 1, 2009 at 6:39 PM
What sick relationship between media and anarchists this is. The media are just as guilty of instigating unrest as the fringe groups.
PattyJ on April 1, 2009 at 6:41 PM
so, the left seeks to control more government, make government larger and “manage” how people live their lives, while capitalism allows prosperity and the ability for everyone to succeed… by a lot or just to do well for themselves and take care of their family…
and yet they want the death of capitalism.
isn’t that what was debated long ago when the constitution was written? we’re forced to re-learn what has already been learned?
there’s that saying, “you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone” (not really a Cinderella reference), and it seems like the nation, and perhaps the world desires to lose it before they shut the hell up and accept they need it.
thedude on April 1, 2009 at 6:42 PM
You had to see Hardball spin this as an afternoon social gathering. Karl Rove said the extensive coverage this got was due to poor planning on the Obama administration’s part. They had early and late events leaving cameramen free with nothing to cover but this. He mentioned there are always protests when the President goes overseas and the Obama administration should have accounted for it. Likely Obama figured the whole world loves him so much there would be no protest when he was there.

I was watching CNBC this morning and they had video of a police line confronted by political activists. These activists were intent on deliberately provoking the police, and one fellow did manage to get an officer to push back.
There was more pushing and shoving among the professional photojournalists trying to get into the perfect position to capture the image of a protester being ’savagely attacked by out of control police officers’.
I believe photojournalists like those I saw in that video clip should be arrested for inciting a riot, and spend some time in jail along with the protesters they were assisting.
(Since I’ve not had time to wade through the comments, if someone else has already posted this, I’ll apologize for not reading the comments before posting. Perhaps I should do that anyway.)
Skandia Recluse on April 1, 2009 at 6:45 PM
I don’t understand why Obama didn’t come out onto the balcony, raise his hands and utter those famous words….”be still”.
The mobs would have parted and the waves of hostility would have subsided.
I hear he has this power over the people.
PappaMac on April 1, 2009 at 6:47 PM
They did announce that the police would carry tazers. Big deal. I hope the police don’t run away like they did in the anti-semitic demonstrations they had a couple of months ago.
Blake on April 1, 2009 at 6:53 PM
The reporters sure proked a riot last May Day in LA and when they got their butts beat they all sued because they are “reporters” only they protect us from “anarchy.” Oh, wait! They protect the anarchists — not us. All the local talk radio guys couldn’t figure out why callers didn’t give a crap that reporters got hurt. lol!

No doubt these dirtbags are coordinated by community organizers.
Golden Boy on April 1, 2009 at 7:37 PM
A little over the top, maybe? You think so?
If they were needed, and if they would be useful, they’d be used. However, use of such things on a crowd in that part of London would be likely do more harm than good even if this was a major riot, which it wasn’t.
No, there isn’t.
It’s a protest, people, not a civil war. And compared with some previous protests in the UK it is really rather small and tame. Didn’t you read the news? “Mostly peaceful”. Sure a few twerps smashed some windows but that was the least that was expected. The fact that the news cameras are standing right next to the poser breaking the window should be enough to tell you this wasn’t a major drama.
What do you want, the government to ban protests? A police state? The Army to mow-down everyone who has an objectionable opinion?
As for the police action, their usual tactics in the UK are to contain groups and keep them in one place so if some violent types do try to go on the rampage, it can’t easily spread. Once the group has lost its enthusiasm they then allow them to make a slow and controlled dispersal. This approach also allows serious troublemakers to be easily identified for later arrest when they are on their own, and rather than surrounded by a volatile crowd.
The police are well aware that most people are protesting peacefully; if they start letting loose with water cannon and tear gas then dozens of people will be trampled to death in the stampede. The financial area of London (where the protests are) has very narrow roads and no open space; there is nowhere to run.
The MSNBC commentator’s remark about the police and protestors “pushing and shoving” one another was funny though; since at that moment in the video the police can be seen giving a some of the protestors a few good whacks with their batons. Somebody went home bruised from that “push and shove” contest!

The only thing I can describe this as is a ‘protestor bonnaroo’ or ‘modern leftist woodstock’. There were more spectators than actual protesters/groups/bands. How many thousands of the thousands would you estimate were just yahoo’s out with their video camera to prove on youtube that ‘they were there’ and that they ‘mean something’ to whatever halfwit cause they want to support this semester.

I’m from the UK, and from what I’ve heard, it was really all a big carnvial. The media could barely contain their disappointment because they’d been building it all up as world war three for days.
I’m willing to bet the guy who was smashing windows was being egged on by the photographers for the press. Without the cameras present, nothing would have happened.
The truth is it all went off pretty peacefully.
I’ve heard the city traders came out to wind up the protestors by flashing money at them. For the city traders these protests have always been a sport to bait the hippies. At least they have a sense of humour.
