Video: Cavuto goes nuclear on Democrat for trying to regulate “excessive” pay
posted at 6:35 pm on April 1, 2009 by Allahpundit
Fear not, says Rep. Grayson, author of the “pay for performance” bill. He only wants to cap the pay of employees at companies that got TARP money. Left unmentioned: The fact that Barney Frank’s goals are a tad more ambitious than that. This is the camel’s nose inside the tent, in other words, and Cavuto knows it, which is why he can’t help turning apoplectic halfway through. Grayson defended the bill recently in a post at HuffPo but don’t look for any guidance there on what is and isn’t “excessive.” In fact, your time’s better spent reading George Will’s op-ed on whether TARP is unconstitutional insofar as it represents a grant of discretion from Congress to the President so sweeping and ill-defined as to violate separation of powers. Arguably, this bill does too:
The Supreme Court has said: “That Congress cannot delegate legislative power to the president is a principle universally recognized as vital to the integrity and maintenance of the system of government ordained by the Constitution.” And the court has said that properly delegated discretion must come with “an intelligible principle” and must “clearly delineate” a policy that limits the discretion. EESA flunks that test.
Does Grayson’s bill clearly delineate limits on Geithner’s discretion to decide what constitutes excessive pay? If it does, he forgot to mention it in eight minutes of badgering.
The interview was recorded last night, incidentally. The second clip comes from today’s “Your World,” in which Cavuto, in the clear light of day, had an unexpected change of heart.

Yeah, or we’ll add regulations on you for the sake of social justice against unbridled capitalism.

Maybe someone should point out that all these things the Obama administration wants to do will serve as precedent for the next Republican administration.
Hey, that’s it… let’s win big in 2010, and then tax Democrats at 90%!

Still more deja vu all over again.
Institutions that are on the “public teat”, that is, those that have taken public funds to guarantee their survival, should be forced to have all employees live under the “GS” schedule for government employment wages, effective at the time they take the public funds. The general rule is this: If we backstop you then you live on public-sector salaries. End of discussion. If you object to this then return the public money and have a go of it on your own.

A bit off-topic, but: I always enjoy Allah’s posts, even when I disagree with them. I thought that Allah’s grumpiness was a comedic shtick, but from following his Tweet feed it looks like he is genuinely pissed at some of the more troll-like commenters around here. I know how he feels. During the Mitt Romney campaign I had to stop reading the comments because I would get so angry about the anti-Mormon trolls. I wish everyone would just take a deep breath and chill out.

Using their own “logic” and judging by their approval ratings and failure to anticipate this economic disaster or do anything useful about it since it hit, shouldn’t Congress and Obama get pay and perk and persion cuts, immediately?
And be fired within 30 to 60 days if they don’t prodice results the people agree with?

Cavuto has become one of my favorites over at Fox. The stuff you see in that video happens quite often and he takes no crap from anyone. I wish Fox would run a repeat of his show later in the evening instead repeats of Mr. Repeat himself, Hannity.
And to TheJoker who keeps making the fat jokes, Cavuto has MS and the medication does that to him. So stuff it.
Knucklehead on April 1, 2009 at 6:53 PM
Cavuto blew it….he had a real live congress critter, and he didn’t ask him where is the 700 billion.
He didn’t ask…..show me yours and Timmy’s opinion that the Constitution says it is o.k. to take over businesses and put salary caps etc. in place.
He didn’t take the opportunity to say Congress caused this mess, and AIG should have gone bankrupt, and now Congress is playing Kabuki outrage for the dumb masses, so that they can grab power…..apparently neil is one of the dumb masses.

Great interview. Love the way this bill author tries to pass the buck to Treasury! Like it would be against the Constitution for Congress to set a limit on what is excessive pay! How is it that Geithner got so much power anyway? Are we nuts to put up with that or what?
And Cavuto’s April Fools prank was cute, but not as cute as Sarah’s pictures all over HA.
Christian Conservative on April 1, 2009 at 7:11 PM
And it won’t work. Nixon tried wage limits in the 70s and the companies got around it with bonuses. Clinton set salaries at 500,000 and suddenly people got paid in stock options. Limit salary, bonuses and stock options and people will be paid in one hundred year annuities they can turn around and sell to JG Wentworth.
The Treasury Secretary is becoming the most powerful man in the world with no electoral control. He has the ability to put himself in the position that even future presidents dare not replace him for what he could do on his way out with impunity, since they aren’t regulating or limiting him in any way.
Scary stuff.

When these dicks look in the mirror do they see Mussolini? Doubtful. The arrogance of these fascists is stunning. This guy wants to talk about looting people?!! What about doubling the national debt in six years and tripling it in 10? Oh, but that’s okay because it’s for the greater good. Now turn over your paychecks and STFU. These people make me sick.

When I watched the end of his show today, I actually started panicking.
I thought at some point he’d come back to logic. Then he said “sometimes bigger government IS better.” I thought he was serious. He is always so deadpan…well played.
I was so happy when he said April Fools. I thought another one of ours was slipping away.
Is it just me or is the comment layout different?

Cavuto really nailed this worm. Neil was a bit off on the specific issues, but he was right on the essential substance.
Grayson’s interview on Cavuto should be enough evidence to get him tossed out of Congress. Should be.
BTW, I’m surprised by all the people here who are taking umbrage at people making fat remarks about Neil. If you watch his show then you know that Neil loves reading emails that talk about his “big head” all the time. It doesn’t look big to me, but many of the emails mention it, unflatteringly, and Neil loves reading them on air. Also, Neil talks a lot about being fat.

He’s of Fox Business. Of course he’s going to be less-than-civil from time to time with the government. It’s a part of his job.
Subjective measurement. Besides, I’ll take Olbermann, Dobbs and Maddow any day. Now if you could get Huckabee to go to CNN with his message, it would make things tolerable. Huckabee has a certain kind of civility that has never been seen before on Murdoch’s news networks.
Well, Cavuto’s rage sure showed that he was the beta in the room.

“Please don’t use profanity.”
Maybe he should pass that request onto Charlie Rangel. This Grayson dude is an idiot. Period. He epitomizes what’s wrong with Washington. They don’t know what the hell they’re doing.
They just look at a poll or read a few news reports and go with whatever they think the public wants. They don’t read what they’re voting on. They don’t bother to follow this legislation to its logical conclusion to see if there will be any unintended consequences.
This is how we end up pissing away 700 billion in an alleged rescue package. Or passing a 787 billion stimulus bill that doesn’t stimulate anything. Or giving bonuses to execs who ran their company into the ground. Or having Fannie and Freddie go up in flames despite ample warning that this is where we were headed.
Obviously it makes no difference when we bitch at these people for their lunacy. Cavuto’s rant fell on deaf ears. So did O’Reilly’s when Barney Frank was on his show. Our e-mails and phone calls have gone ignored. The tea parties get zero mainstream press coverage. It almost seems like a revolution of sorts is the only recourse we’ll have left if this keeps up.

What people may not realize is that, like me, Neal Cavuto literally memorizes his entire program so that if his eyesight goes wacky and he can’t see the teleprompter he can still continue. Think about THAT for a moment. Memorizing an entire show each and every night. That is a task most of us couldn’t handle on a monthly basis, yet Mr. Cavuto does it time and time again. Personally, I’m in awe of the man.
You wanna start tossing feeble wise cracks Joker? Talk is cheap, let’s see you what Mr. Cavuto, me and THOUSANDS of Americans go through every day.

I want to see Neil and Glenn in Bill’s and Hannity’s places. Either of them could hold the ratings away from that jerk, Olbermann and What’s-her-name. B’sides, we need these two in prime time so the West coast viewers to fall in love with after they come home from work. Many have to go to bed so early.

I don’t get it. These wanks try and make it out like these companies embezzled the money or something. You pricks gave IT TO THEM!!!! You coerced some companies into taking it even thought they didn’t want it!!!
They throw out billions of dollars, and now turn around and say “Wait, maybe we should have put some kind of stipulations on how it’s used’. This is such horseshit.
And to think Geithner overstated remaining TARP funds by a mere 100 billion.
Cavuto is exactly right. Most people with more common sense that a horse turd don’t want to see this money bailing out greedy pricks that take advantage of situation.
The idea that you have an Unprecedented Government Geyser of Money going on and you don’t think that all the greedy pricks out there aren’t slobbering all over themselves and getting in line to get all they can is just plain sorry.

Cavuto should definitely be given a better slot.
It’s ironic that HotAir tends to show his blow ups, because in general he delivers thoughtful, measured remarks and asks good questions of his guests. And, because he has a business bent, his guest lineups are not just the usual faces. I actually learn something watching his show.
I find O’Reilly unwatchable. The man is not very smart so it is not unusual for him to lose (or at least fail to win) arguments with the liberals he has on and he spends much of his time posturing. Bill is too concerned with his popularity. He’s like Geraldo without the mustache. I realize it won’t happen (because of his ratings), but I wish they’d move his slot and replace him with Cavuto or at least with Special Report.
I find Beck to be over the top — too much preaching to the choir — and find Sean to be too blatantly partisan.
I take flak for it, but I still think Greta does a good job. She interviews people rather well (as one might expect from a lawyer) and gives them time to answer the question.

This is merely an extension of what congress has been doing for decades. Congress decides that something should be regulated, appropriates funds, creates a department, and then tells that department to write the regulations.
Why everyone is suddenly nervous about authorizing the executive branch of government to set limits on employee compensation should be ‘telling’.
How is that any different that telling the EPA to write regulations governing C02 emissions?
