Men of action (in the arena) have little patience for feckless amateurs like B-HO. This is a classic case of a 'hetro' up against a metro. God has made a promise to Israel and it will be fascinating to watch how He keeps it.

...if the US failed to do so Israel might be forced to resort to a military strike on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear installations.

Attempting to destroy the known nuclear installations seems altogether insufficient. Destroying Tehran and attempting to destroy the known nuclear installations seems a much more thorough and therefore much safer way to attempt to remove the threat. Moreover, such a spectacular execution seems likely to frighten Israel's enemies away for decades, and to corrode the faith in Allah.

how realistic is that arms race scenario…really? S. Korea doesn’t have a bomb…neither do any of the other east asians bar china. im not saying its impossible, but is that arms race scenario a certainty?

ernesto on April 1, 2009 at 11:56 AM

If Iran -- the country that sent young children into combat against Iraq in the late 1980s -- had nuclear weapons, which countries might be bothered?

(1) Iraq, the neighbour to the west? The two countries have fought one major conflict and even now their relationship is tense and Iran has been accused of fomenting violence in Iraq.

(2) Saudia Arabia, just over the water? S.A. and Iran are ideological opponents in a battle over who should control the murderous ideology of Islam. S.A. couldn't make anything for itself but it could afford to buy something.

(3) UAE, also just over the water? Small enough to be very vulnerable, rich enough to buy weapons and arrogant enough to want to wave a 'big stick'.

(4) Pakistan, the nuclear-armed neighbour to the east?

Sure, a conflict would disrupt trade ... but that wasn't sufficent to prevent the Iraq-Iran war and the Iraq-Kuwait war. These countries are predominantly Islamic with Islamic values, Islamic priorities and Islamic reasoning. What we consider valuable is possibly not at all important to them.

Countries like Russiam, the USA, the UK and France decided that their interests were best served with policies such as 'no first-strike' and M.A.D. and thus the enemies 'co-operated', in a manner of speaking, to ensure the nuclear option wouldn't be used.

Iran might well think it's interests are best served with a first-strike policy and, given their past behaviour, that cannot be ruled-out even though it seems pointless and crazy from our perspective.

Hence, if the other countries think that Iran might be working towards a first strike capability then they might decide to adopt the same policy.

The Iranian threat and their weapons are pointed at Israel, not America (at this time).
Israel is not going to allow politics or appeasement to leave it a sitting duck with more evidence and warnings coming from Iran than came from Hitler in the 1930's.

The bogus NIE report that liberals rejoiced over but ended any chance of hard sanctions is one reason why Israel will not put their safety in the hands of people more concerned about relationships than they are about stopping a terrorist regime from killing hundreds of thousands of people if they get their way:

Now they tell us: Iran is pursuing a bomb

Lefty blogs rejoiced. At the Daily Kos diarists mocked Bush, Cheney, McCain, Romney, and Huckabee for having taken various hawkish positions on the subject. The Booman Tribune claimed vindication, having "spent a lot of electrons over the last year writing to you about a committed and sustained misinformation campaign to suggest that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program." Crooks and Liars wrote that "[i]f it's possible to make Bush look any stupider---the new NIE report on certainly Iran does." At the HuffPo, Jon Soltz declared "World War III plans stymied by National Intelligence Estimate." And so forth. There are literally hundreds of similar posts.

So imagine my interest to see the Los Angeles Times report that the intelligence agencies have reversed themselves again (bold emphasis added):
Little more than a year after U.S. spy agencies concluded that Iran had halted work on a nuclear weapon, the Obama administration has made it clear that it believes there is no question that Tehran is seeking the bomb.

What fools liberals made out of themselves in their rush to
undercut Bush. All this hand wringing and "sticks and carrots" drivel has done nothing but move Israel closer to a major military strike on Iran that could spark a regional war.
The evidence and intent of Iran to have Nuclear capability is becoming quite clear and is verified by many, including the UN:

Iran holds enough uranium for bomb

Iran has built up a stockpile of enough enriched uranium for one nuclear bomb, United Nations officials acknowledged on Thursday.

The threat from Iran is a major concern for many countries besides Isreal (Saudi Arabia,Jordan,Eygpt do not want Iran to have so much power and influence in the region).
Even though the Russians could care less about America's/Israel's safety, they do understand the threat Iran

Russia and the West would be making a big mistake if they ignored or underestimated the potential missile and nuclear threat coming from Iran, a Russian military expert said on Thursday.

This has been a huge failure by the international community to address and come down strong on a regime that is the leading sponsor of terrorism around the world and has made it clear they want to wipe Israel off the map.
Instead the international community spent all of it's time
crying about Bush and Iraq where real change has taken place for the better.

All the "Hope and Change" supporters are no longer on the sidelines to bitc# and complain anymore. We have heard for 8 years how much smarter liberals are.It is going to take a lot more than clever bumper stickers and waving the peace sign to stop Ahmadinejad and the jihadist quest for the new Caliphate.

and what of north korea? why is it ok to let them get the bomb (under Bush no less)…

I'm not saying that Kim Jong Il should have been allowed to acquire nukes, but the fact that he doesn't believe he's getting 72 virgins when fire is returned has a lot to do with it.

You are personalizing the story. The issue is Israeli security. If I call 911, and nobody shows up, I’m reaching for the Mossberg.

They can have Bammy, Mammy and the entire worthless, corrupt and incompetent Democrat Congress.

We'll take Bibi. He's more American than Obama-Mugabe is, anyway.

Netanyahu is clearly sending a signal for Obama to avoid looking emasculated.

Five will get you ten that Obama will still look emasculated. 'Cause he fundamentally is.

I'd also like to add that you did not have an answer to my pointing out to you that Bush was not at fault for the NK nukes, but in fact it was the Clintoon administration (Slick Willy and Albright) that got suckered by NK when they made that nuke agreement, an agreement NK never intended on complying with and left Bush holding the bag!

Instead you deflect by pointing out that I capped some words...typical lefty tactic, when someone catches you in an outright lefty propaganda lie deflect from the topic!

A weak and epic fail ernesto!

am not willing to bet my survival or the survival of my family and the republic on the off chance Iran’s belligerence are merely words!

In the 80's, the Iranians sent their children into minefields to clear them so that their tanks could roll unimpeded against Iraq.

Agree - Anyone who thinks the murderous lunatics who run Iran are like Barack Obama and merely make speeches because they like to hear themselves squawk and that they don't really mean what they say, has another thing coming.

Netanyahu: Stop Iran or I will, with American tanks, American guns, American plans, American missiles and funded by American aid.

Fixed that for everyone.

DeathToMediaHacks

Let's see. As another poster has pointed out, Israel does not use American tanks, they build their own, the Merkava (now in its 4th gen) because they feel it is better suited to their needs.

American tanks are now equipped with reactive armor and other technological advances developed by the Israelis, including the Trophy tank defense system that is now standard equipment on M1A1 tanks and US APC like the Stryker and Bradley.

They also manufacture their own guns. Ever heard of the UZI? The IDF is replacing the UZI with the Tabor rifle, also an Israeli development.

Yes, Israel uses US military planes, but they've developed avionics that are now spec'd on top line US fighters.

They also use US missiles, but they've modified them for more precise killing (like taking out Hamas leaders) with less collateral damage.

The US gets very good return value on military aid to Israel.

now I’m ignorant about the details there, but I do know they make their own tanks and they are the best in the world.

they are the world's top ten arms producer (excel in high tech - precision weapons systems, advanced radar systems ); I believe UAVs(unmanned areal vehicles) were developed in Israel; excellent missile technology - Python, Popeye smart missiles for example; high performance defense electronic capabilities, c3 systems. So, yes DTMH claims are typical of the leftist screeching.
