Confirmed: Queen’s iPod includes Obama’s speeches

Hey, you never know when Hopenchange fee-vah might strike. She could be sitting there, listening to show tunes, and suddenly think, “You know what I’m in the mood for? Obama’s 2004 convention speech.” Only a quick menu-scroll away.

And to think, you guys thought this gift wasn’t special.

Uploaded onto the iPod:

* Photos from the Queen’s 2007 White House State Visit
* Photos from the Queen’s 2007 Jamestown, Va., Visit
* Photos from the Queen’s 2007 Richmond, Va., Visit
* Video from the Queen’s 1957 Jamestown Visit
* Video from the Queen’s 2007 Jamestown Visit
* Video from the Queen’s 2007 Richmond Visit
* Photos from President Obama’s Inauguration
* Audio of then-state senator Obama’s speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and
* Audio of President Obama 2009 Inauguration Address

Here’s the songlist. Believe it or not, Jake Tapper’s eating crap from the left for blogging this story even though, had Bush pulled something like this, (a) it would be in constant rotation on MSNBC and likely have been the top story on “Countdown,” and (b) the same nutroots morons who are hassling JT would have wet themselves with glee over the hay they could make from it. Exit question: How’d Team Barry forget to pre-load that ass-covering speech on race he gave last year — which, I believe, was the last time he dared to utter a syllable on the subject? Isn’t that supposed to be the greatest work of American literature since “Huckleberry Finn” or something? Way to cheap out on the Queen!

The backtracking is delightful to watch. Truly. In fact, please send let me know where I can buy that 1951 first edition, signed copy. I’m going to buy it for myself as a victory trophy.

Go back and read my last post, nitwit. Your bet was for a book that doesn’t exist. You lose.

genso on April 1, 2009 at 11:11 PM

You could give Snark-Weasel links to Amazon for a signed 1st edition version of every book he ever signed and she’d still break her word. That’s the way she rolls. That’s why Leftists don’t pay their taxes or any of the other things they demand from the rest of the world.

Come on, BigOldPuppy. You said you’d show that a first edition, signed copy of that 1951 book would be easy to find. Show us.

The backtracking by you you mean. Just keep moving the goal posts every time you get your words shoved down your throat. I’m sure somebody will now go find you a signed copy of the The Rodgers and Hart song book which I saw tons of but ignored because you asked for “The Rodgers and Hammerstein song book.” I won’t even bother pointing out your hypocrisy buy insisting we listen to you when you requested it be Amazon but not listen to you when you asked for The Rodgers and Hammerstein song book. Typical Leftist intellectually dishonest weasel with zero integrity.

You didn’t even get the authors correct, you vastly overstated the value of the work in question, your research was sloppy, and if anything, it further supports our position that Bambi, your god and hero, is all hat and no head.

Loser.

Did you miss the Hammerstein listing on the LOC site?

SnarkVader on April 1, 2009 at 11:15 PM

TheBigOldDog and others…

On the Snark Case:

The King and I” show came out in 1951 and the songbook was printed in a hardback version (Random House 1951).

Rodgers and Hammerstein did not have a collected “songbook” of their stage works (because there weren’t enough of them to do so) until 1958.

If Obama gave a specifically 1951 songbook, it would have been of “The King and I” alone.

I found a signed copy for $149 online.

It’s even better than Barry’s goft copy, since it is signed by BOTH Rodgers and Hammerstein.

So, if I bought it now with a credit card, then immediately put it up on my Amazon booksellers account, and listed it for $200, it would be available on Amazon in about 10 minutes, and Snark would have to cough up the $1000 for Palin’s PAC.

I’d do it if I thought Snark wasn’t a b.s.-ing liar.

So, a roughly $149 present from Obumbles to the “Queen and He“.

genso on April 1, 2009 at 11:18 PM

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama presented the queen with a rare coffee table book of songs by composers Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart that Rodgers had signed in May 1952.

So much for that theory about the book coming out in 1958.

Thanks for putting that up there, you saved my fingers some work. Rogers and Hamerstein or Rogers and Hart are two different animals. Regardless both books are out there and not all that rare.

Now if someone could find me an original copy of “Pride and Prejudice” signed by Jane Austen, now that would be rare and I would kill to have one. Or a more appropriate rare copy of a book from our Prez might be something from Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain or Lillian Helman.

Why am I bothering, you obviously have the intelligence of a sand flea. There was no 1951 work listed in the Library of Congress for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Illustrated Songbook or any other songbook for that matter. The earliest listing for Rodgers and Hammerstein is a sound recording songbook dated 1960! You can’t even get the right pairing! Dolt!

Now, here is what was probably what Bambi gave the Queen from Amazon’s listings:

THE RODGERS AND HART SONG BOOK: THE WORDS AND MUSIC OF FORTY-SEVEN OF THEIR SONGS FROM TWENTY-TWO SHOWS AND TWO MOVIES (Hardcover)

The Rodgers and Hart Song Book: The Words and Music of Forty-Seven of their Songs from Twenty-Two Shows and Two Movies (Hardcover)

How were the songs, photos, and videos licensed for inclusion on the iPod? Were the rightful copyright holders asked for permission and correctly compensated?

Unless the photos were from private collections, Team Barry owes Cobris, Getty Images, or a similar licensor of photos. CDs ripped to iTunes for an iPod must be owned by the original owner of the iPod or they would normally be subject to legal action by the RIAA. If the political speeches were taken from C-SPAN, those videos are not considered “fair use” and are still subject to copyright claims from C-SPAN.

I only bring these points up because any rational person would ask these same questions had George Goebells W. Bushitlerburton had given the Queen of England an iPod pre-loaded with content.

President and Mrs. Bush gave Her Majesty a bronze statuette “High Desert Princess” with a personal inscription on the bottom of the base. It is a replica of the original life size statue that is located in front of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas.
President and Mrs. Bush gave The Prince Philip an exclusive sterling silver eagle box by Tiffany & Co. with personal inscription on the inside lid.

President and Mrs. Bush gave Their Majesties a leather presentation box filled with a collection of documents from the National Archives. One of the items was a copy of an original letter from President Roosevelt to her father, King George, written in 1938. There were also photos from previous royal visits and a DVD of the footage from the Queen’s visit to the United States when she was Princess Elizabeth in 1951.

How did the King and I get involved here?

The printing year.

1951.

WHICH YOU REPEATED 1000 TIMES.

Only two titles by Rodgers (and ONE of his TWO musical PARTNERS -either HART, in the beginning of his career or HAMMERSTEIN at the second half of it) came out that YEAR.

1951.

One book with HART.

In 1951.

And one book with HAMMERSTEIN.

In 1951.

It had to be one of the two.

In 1951.

Figure it out.

But the point is: either the signed books are relatively inexpensive.

Pay up, Snarky.

P3wned, to the power of 1951.

An IPod with Obama on it and photos. Wow how embarrassing, well I guess I will write another apology letter to the British Embassy.

A signed copy of a first edition is a very personal gift, meant for someone you know, or know of. Unless the Queen is a well known collector of signed first edition songbooks or a well known aficionado of Mr. Rodgers, it is too personal for a first gift. Mr. Rodgers signature isn’t rare, it’s easily found on many pieces of his work and napkins.

I hope someone gives the Obamas a signed first edition of Atlas Shrugged, which is rare & if in excellent shape worth thousands of dollars.

Maybe I am a bit slow, but I have not seen anyone yet succeed at meeting her conditions. What I have seen is a lot of sea-lawyering and disbelief that you have allowed yourself to be pwned by a sitepest.

Ah, lets talk about silly distractions like an ipod.

Geez.

No, you’ve got it all wrong. We aren’t talking about silly distractions like an ipod, we’re talking about silly distractions on an ipod.

What an uncouth idiot. He should have at least given her a collection of Stephen Sondheim. Rodgers and Hart. Pbhttt.

Sarjex on April 2, 2009 at 12:42 AM

Did you miss the Hammerstein listing on the LOC site?

SnarkVader on April 1, 2009 at 11:15 PM

No. But the self-congratulatory ipod is so much better to poke fun at than a coffee-table book bought at a used book store.

Or maybe not.

Let’s compare this with what President Bush and Laura Bush gave the Queen and her husband when they first met: http://americandigest.org/mt-archives/picturethis/confirmed_the_o.php

Hammerstein is OK. As much as I like Sondheim, he’s second fiddle to Hammerstein. Or, perhaps better — Sondheim was Hammerstein’s student, and became the master only after he died.

Excellent gifts, especially the cowgirl — since the Queen was, in her youth, an excellent equestrian. She rode around the “ranch”, so to speak, with Ronald Reagan.

unclesmrgol on April 2, 2009 at 12:57 AM

English, of course, not western.

unclesmrgol on April 2, 2009 at 12:57 AM

Further, from here: http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/ask/20070508.html

Their Majesties gave President Bush a sterling silver oversized plate by William & Son with gold seals including: the Presidential seal, the Royal seal and a center seal with the star of Texas surrounded by roses. There was a personal inscription on the back of the plate. They gave Mrs. Bush a gold and crystal clock with the Royal seal by William & Son.

The Office of the Chief of Protocol assists the President and First Lady in the selection and presentation of gifts to foreign leaders.

I think the Queen likes the Bushes better than the Obamas.

Enoxo, you left off the best:

I think the British have Obama’s full measure. He got a signed photo of the Queen. Nobody’s saying whether it is a “personal inscription”. Care to guess?

Great minds think alike. Some minds think faster than others, though. I retract fully my statement that you left off the best.

I dunno about that…nobody gets remotely close to Sondheim when it comes to the turn of phrase and incredibly intricate lyrics. Also Sondheim is HUGE in England…much more so than anything Rodgers and Hammerstein (or Hart.)

Not that I expect the Oministration to know anything about it.

Sarjex on April 2, 2009 at 1:27 AM

I like Sondheim. I expressed personal preference for Hammerstein, which was perhaps churlish of me.

It’s nice, however, that the Obamas know the way to the Goodwill store in DC, and have, in addition, an excellent appreciation for coffee table books on the topic of musicals.

I don’t think it was very nice, however, for Obama to autograph the book. It was probably worth more without his signature — now the Queen will have to sell it at a discount on E-bay.

unclesmrgol on April 2, 2009 at 1:48 AM

No hubris here. What a narcissist. All that messianic promotion during the campaign wasn’t just for the consumption of the drones, he really believes he is “the one”.

All praise Chairman ObaMAO Zebong. Including Her Majesty the Queen

Look into my eyes Queeny. You will be an Obamabot too.

RobCon on April 2, 2009 at 7:42 AM

Perhaps Obama can do a Jim Jones and get the Queen to sign over the deed to her house for the glory of “The One”.

RobCon on April 2, 2009 at 7:43 AM

Meanwhile, world markets are going through the roof today. You mouthbreathers are on the wrong side of history, as usual. Go back to fighting teh evil stem cells and trying to resurrect Terri Schiavo.

You lose.

The Teleprompter must be mad that big boy didn’t give the queen a pic of TOTUS.

Laughing stock.

I’d say obama’s stupidity is hilarious, however our enemies know that a stupid leader means a weak nation.
